Mariners Do It Again

The Seattle Mariners are now down
to three games remaining and half
game back in the wild card chase.

September has been an exciting
month that is for sure. The Mariners
now have beaten the Oakland A's
12 straight games. Now they take
on the LA Angels in the final three
games.

Logan Gilbert had another outstanding
game on the mound. Gilbert went five
and two-thirds innings giving up a
home run only.  The game was 0-0
going into the sixth inning. The
Mariners scored two runs to take
the lead in the sixth inning after
Gilbert gave up the home run.
Jarred Kelenic hit a double to
drive in two runs to take the lead.

In the seventh inning both teams
scored a run each. In the eighth
inning Abraham Toro who has
been slumping hit a home run
to give the Mariners an insurance
run. Paul Sewald and Drew
Steckenrider were able to finish
the game without giving up a
run.

The Mariners now take on the
Angels Friday thru Sunday to
finish the regular season  off.
The Mariners can sweep the
Angels they have a good chance
to make the playoffs as the Red
Sox and Toronto Blue Jays
would have to do the same.
The Mariners right now are
tied with Toronto. Wouldn't
it be interesting if both teams
sweep the three games remaining.
It would mean one game playoff
to play the first wild card team
which look to be the Yankees.
The Red Sox would have to lose
a game though.

Whatever the outcome September
certainly has been fun. It would
be difficult to say who the best
pitcher is in the bullpen though
I expect most would give to Paul
Sewald. The starter would have
to go to Chris Flexen who has the
most wins on the team. Position
player Ty France though JP
Crawford would be second.
Mitch Haniger comeback player
no doubt.

Kyle Seager having a good season
as far as home runs and rbi's go
has been slumping as of late. He
didn't get a hit at all against the A's.
In last seven games he has three
hits in 26 at bats. He still leads
the team in rbi's however Mitch
Haniger over took him in the
home run race. Haniger now
has 38 home runs to Seager's 35.

Marco Gonzales will start Friday's
game followed by Flexen on
Saturday and Tyler Anderson on
Sunday. Who knows who will
start if the Mariners do get into
the playoffs in the first game.
I would put my money on Marco.
Gilbert will be available to pitch
along with Kikuchi and the whole
bullpen.

It would be nice Friday night the
Mariners have an offensive explosion
so Marco could have limited pitches
so help give him rest for the playoffs.
Give Kikuchi some pitching time
along with the low end of the bullpen.
Give rest to Sewald and Steckenrider
too.  Go M's.

Mariners Keep On Winning

The Seattle Mariners keep on winning
and they may make the playoffs after
all. They beat the Oakland A's for the
11th straight time on Tuesday night
4-2. Now they are 1/2 a game out of
the wild card. They win Wednesday
night and the Red Sox lose they will
be in the 2nd wild card spot and just
keep on winning.

Tyler Anderson went four innings
after only two days of rest. This is
normally the day he throws on the
side lines instead willing to give it
for the team. He threw 46 pitches
with 40 strikes; hard to do much
better for sure. Anderson gave up
two hits one a home run in the 4th
inning. The bullpen went the rest
of the way.

The Mariner offense responded by
getting two runs after the home run
given up by Anderson. In the sixth
inning they added another run. The
A's added a run in the top of the
seventh inning making it 3-2 then
Mitch Haniger hit a solo home run
in the bottom of the seventh inning.

The game was close all the way but
the Mariners did what they had to
win. Kyle Seager went hitless in this
game along with Ty France. JP
Crawford had a couple hits and Luis
Torrens had three. Jake Fraley had
one hit which happen to be a double
driving in two runs.  The Mariners
always seem to have a different
hero every day. It doesn't matter
what their batting average is they
find a way to do it when it counts.
It shows batting average isn't as
important as when it gets done.

Casey Sadler had his 15 hold on
the season along with going 26
straight games without giving up
a run. That now is a team record.
Now we see Casey add on to it.

The Mariners are exciting to
watch and again who will get
the job done on Wednesday
night. It doesn't really matter
we just know someone will
find the way. The A's know
the Mariners are on a roll
and not sure how to stop it.
We hope stays that way. Go M's.

Mariners Explode

 Mariners 13 Athletics 4

Monday night's game got off to a rough
start with Chris Flexen giving up a three
run homer in the first inning. After that
he was ok. He did give up another run
in 4th inning after the Mariners had
tied the score. It was all Mariners
after that.

Chris Flexen pitched through the 5th
inning then then bullpen finished up.
Four relievers pitched four innings
not even giving up a run. Isn't nice
to have a good bullpen along with
feeling like we are in a playoff run
even if they follow short.

Mitch Haniger had a great night
hitting two three-run homers. JP
Crawford had three hits and Ty
France four ahead of Mitch.  JP
scored three times well as three
hits. France was perfect going 4
for four with four rbi's.

Kyle Seager and Abraham Toro
were the only regulars not having
a hit. Both continue being in a
hitting slump. Nice to have the
guys ahead of them doing so well.

Tyler Anderson is going to start
on Tuesday night instead of Yusei
Kikuchi. Anderson didn't do well
in his last outing however has done
good since coming to the Mariners.
Kikuchi will be available though
if they need him. This means to
that Anderson will have one more
start after this one.

All relievers will be on deck since
the starters will be on short if they
get off to a tough start. Casey Sadler
Monday night pitched his 25th inning
without giving up a run. This tie's
the team record so next time Sadler
pitches and doesn't give up a run he
will have the record. Thanks Casey
for doing such a great job all year
long. Oh by the way his era is 0.74.

The Mariners now have five games
remaining. The odds are against the
playoffs but anything can still happen.
What a great season. Go M's.

Seattle Kraken Win Pre-season Opener

Though it is only pre-season the Kraken had
their first game ever beating the Vancouver
Canucks in Spokane 5-3. The arena in Spokane
was packed out and noisy for the most part.

The Canucks scored first  and twice in the first
period then the Kraken came back to tie in the
second period before taking the lead with a goal.
The Canucks tied it before the second period
3-3.  The Kraken shut out the Canucks in the
third period while scoring two goals themselves.

The Kraken are an exciting team to watch. At
least the first game indicated anyway. The took
more than twice as many shots as the Canucks
did. It is a good possibility the Canucks didn't
want to show everything since the two teams
will meet early on in the regular season. In
fact the Kraken's first home game will be
against the Canucks.

The Kraken's night pre-season game will be
Tuesday night in Edmonton, Alberta against
the Oilers. A team that has had a lot of success
over the years. Go Kraken!

Mariners Win Seahawk Don't

 Mariners 5 Angels 1

For six innings the question were
the Mariners going to score a run.
The best thing Marco Gonzales
pitched another outstanding game.

Marco gave up a home run to
catcher Kurt Suzuki in the second
inning but that was it for the
afternoon. The Angels only
had two other hits.

Marco ended up going seven
innings, however, the Mariners
were able to tie the game in the
seventh inning as well. Jarred
Kelenic hit a solo home run.

In the eighth inning the Mariners
scored four runs. JP Crawford
hit a double, after a hit by Seager
then Haniger drove in Crawford.
Also, Toro had a hit to load the
bases. Jake Fraley hit a double
to drive in Seager, Haniger, and
Toro.

Paul Sewald and Diego Castillo
came in to shut the door. The
Mariners have six games to
go and will be two games behind
for the second spot in the wild
card. The odds against it but
never know.

Another angle the Mariners
could win or tie the division
title. Houston Astros have
lost for games in a row. The
Mariners are five games behind
the Astros with six remaining.

Vikings 30 Seahawks 17

The Seattle Seahawks got off
to another good start. DK Metcalf
scored the first touchdown then
the Vikings came back to score.
The Seahawks kicked a field goal
to take the lead 10-7 after the
first quarter.

The Seahawks scored another
touchdown on a 30 yard run by
Chris Carson in the second quarter.
It turned out to be the last score
the Seahawks made in the game.
The Vikings scored two touchdowns
to close out the first half make the
half time score 21-17.

The second half wasn't a lot of
scoring by the Vikings who kicked
a field goal in the 3rd quarter and
two more in the 4th quarter.

The Seahawks are now 1-2.  Next
week the Seahawks take on the
San Francisco 49ers. Going into
today the 49ers were 2-0. They
are currently playing the Green
Bay on Sunday night football.
The Packers are leading 10-0
in the first quarter.

The Seahawks will need to play
more consistent next time. Can't
just get out to a fast start. The
Seahawks defense right now the
offense needs to score. The defense
need to figure out how to stop the
opposition. It will be important
for the Seahawks to win in San
Francisco next week. Don't want
to go down to 1-3. Right now
it is going to be hard to keep up
the LA Rams and the Arizona
Cardinals.

Mariners Get Beat Badly Huskies Win in Overtime

 LA Angels 14 Mariners 1

I am sure everyone was hoping
for the sweep of the LA Angles,
however the Angels had another
thought. The game was over early
as the Angels scored 11 runs in the
first three innings. The third inning
was the big one where the Angels
scored eight runs.

The Angels top of the lineup had
a very good day. Tyler Anderson
who has pitched well for the
Mariners since coming over late
in August only lasted two innings
giving up nine runs.  Six of those
runs actually happened in the third
inning but he wasn't able to record
an out.  Positive thing came out of
it Paul Sewald, Drew Steckenrider
and Diego Castillo were able to
rest on the day.

The Washington Huskies beat the
Golden Bears Saturday night 31-24
in overtime. The Huskies defensive
line was able to cause the Golden
Bears to fumble on the two yard
line after they had scored a touchdown.
The Huskies offense for the most part
were different between the two halves.
The Huskies scored 21 of their 31 points
in the first half. The Huskies were
without all-American tight end Cade
Otton out with covid symptoms. Hope
he will be back next week when the
Huskies take on Oregon State who
beat the USC Trojans in LA  45-27
Saturday night.

The Washington State Cougars lost
for the second straight week this time
to the Utah Utes 24-13. A common
thread the Cougars have led at half-time
in each game. Quarterback Jarrett
Guarantano was intercepted three times.
The Cougars will be on the road next
week against the Golden Bears. It
will be a tough game for the Cougars.

Mariners Win Close One

The Seattle Mariners beat the LA Angels
Friday night, however, it came down to
the last at bat with Paul Sewald getting
the last out. Final Mariners 6 Angels 5

We will see a lot of Sewald and Steckenrider
over the last eight games of the season.
At least as much as they need them. It is
exciting to be in a playoff race even if
they don't get in.

Logan Gilbert got off to a good start but
ended up going five and one-third innings.
This is Gilbert's first time in this situation
and length of season. Look next year when
he will be able to go longer. Hard to know
what the rotation will look like next season.
It will be good to speculate. Get to that
when the season is over.

Ty France had another good game. He drove
home three runs including a home run in the
first inning. Also, JP Crawford and Mitch
Haniger had good games. Those three need
to continue doing well for the Mariner to
continue winning.

Question is still going around what will
happen with Kikuchi's next start will he
make it or not.  I would say see how his
arm is that day possibly start him, however,
have someone ready to go. Matt Brash
whose future could be in the Mariner's
rotation next year was called up to the
Tacoma Rainiers as the double-A Arkansas
season is over.

Some have suggested  starting Brash in
Kikuchi's spot. I expect Kikuchi would be
a better solution to  start but again have
someone ready to go. This comes down
to whether the Mariners are still in the
 wild card race.

Tyler Anderson goes Saturday night.
Anderson went seven innings in his
last outing against Oakland giving up
only one run. We hope for another
outing like that one. Like all the starters
the bullpen be ready to go early. Go M's.

Mariners Sweep A's

First time ever the Seattle Mariners swept
the A's in Oakland. Thursday afternoon
final was 6-5.

The Mariners still don't have a great
chance to make the playoffs but they
did bury the Oakland A's now two
games behind them both with nine
games remaining.

Yusei Kikuchi struggled again on the
mound giving the  A's the upper hand
3-1 after three innings. Scott Servais
took Kikuchi out after the three innings.
Yohan Ramirez went in for Kikuchi
giving up a home run in the 4th inning.
After that the Mariners bullpen was
pretty solid the rest of the way.

Being behind three runs catcher Cal
Raleigh who hadn't started any of the
other games against the A's hit a two-run
in the 5th inning. Mitch Haniger hit
a solo home run in the 6th inning then
Luis Torrens pinch hitting for Fraley
hit a two-run homer with Kelenic who
had walked after Haniger's home run.

The score stayed 6-4 until the bottom of
the 9th inning with two outs when Matt
Olson who the Mariners stopped cold
for the most part in the series hit a home
run. Paul Sewald who gave up the home
run then got Yan Gomes to fly out to
end the game.

The Oakland series was exciting and
fun to watch. We hope the same in LA
and back in Seattle for remaining of
the season, the nine games. Regardless
how it ends the Mariners have made it
exciting baseball for us all.

It will be exciting to see who the
Mariners acquire during the off-season
to improve the team. I am sure a trade
or two could happen or free agents.

Thanks Mariners for making it a true
good season despite some short comings.
Next season should move us up for
sure. Go M's.

Mariners Go For Sweep

The Seattle Mariners go for the sweep
against the A's in their park at the Oakland
Coliseum Thursday afternoon. Not an easy
task, however, they are still in for the wild
card.

The Mariners are 2 1/2 games behind in
the wild card race with ten games remaining.
Even if they win their final ten games it
will still be hard to get in. The Houston
Astros have 91 wins with ten games left.
The Mariners win all ten games and the
Astros by some miracle lose all ten or
nine out of ten the Mariners would win
the AL West. The Mariners lose one or
win all the games and the Astros win one
then they would be tied and play for the
division title. Not likely happen but we
would see another 1995.

Wednesday night the Mariners beat the
A's 4-1 under the great pitching of Chris
Flexen who went seven innings giving up
one run on a homer run by Matt Chapman
in the fifth inning. That was right after
Ty France hit a home run in the  top of
the fifth. Made the score 3-1.

Kyle Seager made it 2-1 in the 4th inning
hitting a home run giving him 35 on the
season. Even more important Kyle had his
100th rbi. He had never had that many
rbi's in a season before. Now the question
is will the Mariners take his option next
season which is up to $20 with incentives
added in. A hard one for Jerry Dipoto to
do. Can the Mariners go out and get another
third baseman or a second baseman and
move Abraham Toro back to his natural
position. One of the drama's for the off-
season.

If the Mariners do make the
playoffs though chances are low and
Kyle continues to do the rest of the way
like he has against Oakland in this series.
Say he is the hero these ten remaining
games won't it be hard to let him go. I
am glad I don't have that decision to
make. Besides the home run he had
three hits total in the game. It would
nice to see three more hits by Seager
on Thursday. What would even better
we see Yusei Kikuchi pitch well in
this game in the same fashion as Tyler
Anderson, Marco Gonzales and Chris
Flexen.

The Mariners take on the LA Angels
in a three game series beginning on
Friday in Anaheim. The Angels are
in a six-game losing streak with a
record of 2-8 in the last ten games.
They are playing the Houston Astros
on the road so have to root for them.
Oh by the way if they win their last
ten games they won't catch the
Mariners and of course six of the
games are against the Mariners.
The worst the Mariners will do
is third place in the AL West.

I will wrap it up for this post.
Check you next time with a
Mariner sweep we hope. Go M's.

Mariners Take Two

 Mariners 5 A's 2

So far the Seattle Mariners love
playing in Oakland. They have
only lost one game on the A's
field. Now they are tied once
again for second place in AL
West division with the A's.

Though it is still going to be
a long shot for the Mariners
they are still in the race for
the wild card. Marco Gonzales
has another good outing on
Tuesday night. Marco went
six innings giving up four hits
and two runs which both happen
to be home runs. Marco now
has a 9-5 record. He has pitched
in ten games in August and
September with a record of
6-0.

JP Crawford and Dylan Moore
were the primary hitters in the
game. Crawford had three hits
while driving in two runs. Moore
had a double driving in Jarred
Kelenic and Jake Fraley. Kelenic
had a triple then after two outs
Fraley walked before Moore's
hit. This happened in the 4th
inning after the team were tied
at 1-1. Crawford drove in Moore.
Making it 4-1. The Mariners
added insurance run in the
9th inning.

When it comes to relief pitching
the Mariners will be going with
Sewald and Steckenrider down
the stretch as often as they need
them. Hopefully the Mariners
will have enough lead where
they won't be over used.

Wednesday night Chris Flexen
the Mariners top pitcher as far
as record goes 12-6 goes to the
mound. In all Flexen starts the
Mariners are 19-9. We hope it
makes 20-9 after this one.

Kikuchi will start on Thursday
afternoon before the Mariners
head to Anaheim to take on
the Angels on Friday night.
Kikuchi is the one starter who
is having trouble since the
all-star break. We hope he
can get back to where he was.
It would be nice if the Mariners
could pick up his option but
for that to happen he must be
able to get back to where he
was in the first half of season.

Mariners Still in Wild Race

 Mariners 4 A's 2

The Seattle Mariners beat the
Oakland A's in the opening game
of the current series which is four
games to stay alive for the wild
card for now.

The Mariners now have 81 wins
which means whatever they do
in the remaining 12 games they
will have a winning record. A
feat not expected before the
season started and having
a lot of injuries in April
especially to starting rotation
no one expected this.

They have six games remaining
against the A's  then six against
the LA Angels. Even if they don't
make the playoffs these 12 games
will feel like it for sure. Just think
if the Mariners can win 9 out of the
final 12 games they will have a
90 win season. Not bad in my book.

Monday night's game Tyler Anderson
pitched another awesome game. He
went seven innings giving up one run
in the bottom of the 3rd. This was
right after Kyle Seager hit a double
with the bases loaded scoring two
runs. He had another rbi later on.
Kyle had three hits on the night.
The lineup was changed again.
Ty France was moved into the
second spot while Mitch Haniger
moved to third. Haniger continues
with his hot bat with two doubles.

Tyler Anderson should have two
remaining starts on the season.
We hope the other starters can
pitch as well as Anderson did.
Marco Gonzales is scheduled
to start on Tuesday night. He
has done well for the month of
September. Let the starters roll
on. Go M's.

Mariners Win Seahawks Lose

 Mariners 7 Royals 1

Sunday the Seattle Mariners kept
themselves alive at least for another
day or series to make the wild card.
It still won't be easy as the Mariners
have only 13 games remaining on
the season.

The Mariners are four games back
in the wild card. They take on the
A's in Oakland starting Monday
in a four-game series. For the M's
to stay in the race they really need
to sweep the series. They will finish
the road trip against the Angels
before coming home to finish the
season against A's and Angels. The
final 13 game are against the A's
and Angels. The Mariners need to
finish both teams winning most if
not all the games. Not an easy task.

Sunday's game Logan Gilbert went
seven innings giving up only three
hits and a run.  Something all the
starters will need to do the remaining
way.

Jarred Kelenic looked like the hitter
we hope to see in 2022. Kelenic had
three hits while driving in three runs.
Kelenic had a home run in the 3rd
inning plus two doubles. Jake Bauers
had a home run in the 3rd as well.
This gave the Mariners 5-0 lead as
they scored two in the first and another
in the second. The future looks bright
if what Kelenic did during the Royals
series. Keep it up young man.

Titans 33 Seahawks 30

The Seattle Seahawks started off
Sunday having a 24-9  at half-time
however the offense couldn't sustain
it scoring six in the second half.
Jason Myers missed the extra point
after the touchdown. This meant
the Titans on their final touchdown
near the end of the game they would
have had to go for two points to tie
instead of extra points. Other words
the Seahawks could have won by
one in regulation.

The game going in overtime. The
Seahawks defense was able to stop
the Titans on their first possession,
but the Titans were able to pin the
Seahawks deep on their side. The
Seahawks were not able to go any
where so had to punt putting the
Titans in good situation where
they had to get only one first down
before kicking the winning field
goal.

Passing game was even between
the two teams both having over
340 yards, however, the rushing
game was in the favor of the Titans.
Chris Carson was only able to run
for 31 runs on 13 carries though
he had two touchdowns. The Titans
running back Derrick Henry ran
the ball many more times 35 carries
for 182 yards and three touchdowns.

The Seahawks next week will be
in Minnesota to take on the Vikings.
The Seahawks will have to improve
both on offense as well as defense.
The Vikings lost a close one on
Sunday on the road at Arizona
34-33. Next Sunday's game could
be another high scoring affair
hopefully with the Seahawks
victory.

Huskies Win Big Cougars and Mariners Lose

 Washington 52 Arkansas State 3

We all thought the Huskies would
win in week one over Monday but
it didn't happen to our surprise. I
guess you have to lose every one
hundred years against a team. lol.

The following  week Michigan it
was though they were favored
going into the season but after the
Montana game figured Michigan
would be favored as they were
and the Huskies lost terrible again.

Saturday the real Huskies showed
up. It helped they added another
healthy receiver redshirt freshman
Jalen McMillan who ended up
having a great game mostly in
the first half. Also Kamari Pleasant
and Sean McGrew  were back as
well. In fact McGrew had two
touchdowns. Next week take on
California Golden Bears at home
to open the Pac-12 season. The
Huskies have had rough losses
in the last few years. We hope
for a turn around in this game.

USC 45 Washington State 14

The first half the Cougars looked
alright scoring all 14 points while
the Trojans had 7.  The Trojans
were trying to figure things out
under a new head coach. They
did so scoring 28 points in the
3rd quarter then 10 in the fourth
quarter. If this game shows any
indication the Cougars are going
to have a long season.

The Cougars will play Utah on
the road next Saturday. The Utes
should be favored.  They have
a 1-2 record going into the game
losing their last two games. They
will want to get back to winning
ways at home after winning their
opener. The following week the
Cougars will take on California
who we will how they do against
the Huskies.

Royals 8 Mariners 1

The Mariners winning in the
opening game of the series on
Friday had no offense and
Yusei Kikuchi didn't have
anything either. Yusei was
only able to go three innings
giving up eight hits and three
runs.

The  Mariners still had a chance
at that point to win because it
was only 3-0 but they couldn't
muster much of an offense. In
fact they only had three hits and
two were from Ty France. In
fact France had a double in the
seventh inning then was able to
score. At that point the score was
Royals 4-1.

The Royals were able to score
four more runs in the 8th  inning
to put it away. The positive thing
the upper end of the bullpen were
all able to have the night off.

Jarred Kelenic didn't get a hit
on the night, however, he was
able to walk twice. This to me
means he is watching more what
to hit and what not to hit. He
was batting .255 for September
going into the game so see having
improvement.

Logan Gilbert goes Sunday afternoon
so the Mariners really need to win
this game to stay in the race for the
wild card. It is going to take a lot
for the Mariners to make the wild
card so can't lose too many more
games to have a chance.  We wish
them the best for sure. Go M's.

Kelenic Mariners Win Friday Night

 Mariners 6 Royals 2

Jarred Kelenic was the player of
the game Friday night. Jarred
had two two-run home runs to
make the difference in the game.

Kelenic was the youngest player
to hit two home runs in a game
since Alex Rodriguez did it back
in 1996. Both home runs were
off of Jon Heasley making his
major league debut. It would
have been nice off of one of
the other Royal starters but
have to start somewhere. It
has to boost JK confidence
though.

Kelenic though still batting
under .200 for the season he
is hitting .255 for the month
of September. Good for being
in the playoff race. It would
be nice to see him get some
key hits with the bases loaded.
It seems JK is up to bat with
bases loaded more than anyone
and he hasn't been to successful
for the most part.

Hitting .255 for September
certainly gives us hope how
next season may look. Another
question will he be back in
center field next year or moved
to one of the corner spots. Still
have to figure whether Kyle
Lewis will be center field or
a corner spot himself when
he isn't not dhing.

Chris Flexen had another good
outing going five and two-thirds
innings. Better fielding behind
him may have been able to go
seven innings instead. Joe Smith
bailed Flexen in the sixth inning
getting a strikeout with runners
on base. Flexen now is 12-6 and
in his starts the Mariners are 19-9.
Not bad for a pitcher we weren't
sure of going into the season.

Drew Steckenrider struggled in
this one including giving up a
home run in the seventh inning.
Paul Sewald came in to bail
out the team getting Perez and
had a good eighth inning to.
Diego Castillo finished off
the game without surrendering
a run though gave up a hit
and a run. At this point the
Mariners are using Steckenrider,
Sewald and Castillo where
the lineup for opposing team
is in. All three doing good
though a few stumbling blocks
on occasion.

Casey Sadler and Joe Smith are
doing well in their roles. It would
be nice if the Mariners could have
another reliever step up when
Steckenrider, Sewald and Castillo
each need a night off. Otherwise
the starters need to go a little
further in those games.

We hope for more success in the
final two games of the series.
Mariners end the season playing
the Oakland A's seven times and
the LA Angels six times. The
Mariners have any chance left
in the wild card race they have
to dominate both the A's and
the Angels. It is possible but
they will have to play their best
baseball of the season. Go M's.

Weekend Coming Up

The Seattle Mariners start three game series
against the Royals in Kansas City. The
Mariners need to win at two out of three if
not sweeping the Royals to still have a
chance at the wild card.

The Huskies are taking on Arkansas State
at home on Saturday. Washington needs
to play like they did last year or things
are going to be ugly. Arkansas State is
primarily a passing team so the Huskies
should be able to have a good day. We
hope the defense can cause some turnovers.

WSU Cougars will take on USC at home.
Thought USC would win but since they
fired their coach who knows now. It should
still be an upset if the Cougars win.

The Seattle Seahawks take on the Tennessee
Titans on Sunday. The Titans lost their opening
game so hopefully Sunday will be the second
loss for them. It will be interesting to see the
Seahawks pull out some more things with the
offense and the defense still bend but not
break.

Mariners Lose Final Game of Series

 Red Sox 9 Mariners 4

Wednesday afternoon game was
much like Tuesday night's game
where the Red Sox scored runs
late on the bullpen. There was
one difference.

The game went into extra innings.
After nine innings it was 3-3.
Marco Gonzales pitched another
quality start going nine innings
giving up three runs. The high
end of the bullpen did a good
good but the Mariners had to
depend on the low end of the
bullpen in extra innings.

The Mariners gave up six runs
in the 10th inning. The first
run was scored on a passed
ball by Tom Murphy though
it could have been considered
a wild pitch on Erik Swanson.

Swanson was recorded for four
runs then Justus Sheffield gave
up two more runs. Yohan Ramirez
was able to get the final two outs
of the game. The Mariners did
get a run in the 9th but it wasn't
enough.

The Mariners were only able to
get three runs in the third inning
so had to hold on to the extra
innings. Kyle Seager hit a double
scoring to of the three runs.

Speaking of Seager he is a candidate
for the Roberto Clemente Award
which is a cool thing, however,
Roots sports hyped Seager so much.
I mean some what he has done on
the field well as in the community.

If the Mariner had one more bat as
well as reliever they would have
a better chance to get into the
playoffs this year. I think next
year the chances will be much
better. Go m's.

Red Sox Even Series

 Red Sox 8 Mariners 4

Tuesday night's game against the
Red Sox was like many of the
Mariner games on the season
despite what the scores shows.

The game was tied going into
the 8th inning 2-2. Tyler Anderson
pitched well for 4 and 1/3 innings
giving up just one run however
had thrown 90 pitches. Since
this was a critical game now
down the stretch Scott Servais
decided to go to the pen and
brought in Casey Stadler to
finish off the 5th. Casey did
a fine job as he has done all
season.

The rest of the bullpen didn't
do their usual job though. This
especially happened in the 8th
inning when Drew Steckenrider
who had the save Monday night
gave up three of the five runs
that inning. Red Sox added another
run in the 9th. Mariners had two
runs in the 9th but the rally fell
short.

The Mariners had a chance for a
big inning when they had the
bases loaded. Jarred Kelenic
struck out which he seems to
do a lot when the bases are
loaded. Hopefully next year
when he might be better he
has more of those opportunities.

Jake Fraley back from rehab
assignment made his first start
in left field. He came up after
Kelenic. Fraley nearly hit a
home run but the ball was
caught for a sacrifice fly. A
home run certainly made the
difference in the game. We
should see Fraley in left field
the rest of the way against
right handers anyway.

Sounds like big news story
was supposed to be announced
on Thursday but was leaked
early. It looks like the 2023
All-Star Game will be at
T-Mobile Park. Won't that
be exciting. We hope the
Mariners will be in midst
of a great season like the
last one in 2001. I am sure
we can't expect 116 wins but
we can hope for it right.

Wednesdays game will be
an afternoon affair with
Marco Gonzales on the
mound. We hope for another
good performance from Marco
as we have seen in recent starts.
The Mariners need to take this
one against the Sox to still have
a chance in the wild card. Go M's.
Go M's.

Mariners Win Opening Game of Series

 Mariners 5 Red Sox 4

The Seattle Mariners won their 30th
game as the opener to a series. They
have only lost 19 times.

As we see they won by one run as
well which they have done over the
season. The big blow for the Mariners
was a home run by Mitch Haniger
in the 7th inning with two runners
on base.

Logan Gilbert pitched another dominant
game going six innings giving up two
runs, however, walked one batter while
striking out nine. Gilbert had no problem
going up against the Red Sox big guns.

After Haniger's home run the Red Sox
hit two home runs of their own against
Paul Sewald in the 8th inning before
Drew Steckenrider was able to record
the save with two strike outs. As of late
Sewald has been giving up home runs.
We hope he straightens things up.

Tyler Anderson will be going for the
Mariners on Tuesday night. If he does
what he has since arriving in Seattle
late August the Mariners have a chance
to win this one as well.

Jake Fraley is on rehab assignment in
Tacoma. On Saturday he dh and then
on Monday played left field in the first
game of a double-header where he
had a three-run homer. The Rainiers
won both games. They have won 8
out of their last nine games.

The Rainiers play in what used to be
called the PCL  is now the triple-A
West. In the west division the Rainiers
are 68-45  with a three game lead in
the division. We wish them the best.

The second game of the double header
Taylor Trammell scored the winning
run on his 24th birthday. How about
that!

Justin Dunn looks to go on a rehab
assignment soon after doing a
simulated game on Monday.  If
he does return to the Mariners
before the season ends he will
likely be in the bullpen instead
of starting a game.

The win over the Red Sox the
Mariners are two games behind
in the wild card. After finishing
up the Red Sox on Wednesday
the Mariners will go on a 10-game
road trip to Kansas City, Oakland,
and Anaheim. The series against
the A's in Oakland is four games
and could break the chance to go
to the wild card or not. Go M's.

Two Teams Win Two Lose

The Seattle Seahawks won Sunday
28-16. They looked very sharp in
the game especially on the offensive
side.

The game was not perfect by any
means but for the first regular season
game certainly showed what they
are capable of. Tyler Lockett had
a couple touchdowns, DK Metcalf
had the fourth and final td of the
game. Newcomer tight end Gerald
Everett had two catches including
a touchdown. Everett going to be
a good one for the Seahawks to go
to.

The Seahawks defensive line  was
able to get to the Indianapolis qb
Carson Wentz a few times. In all
the defense bend but not break.
They did limit Colt's running back
Jonathan Taylor to 56 yards on 17
carries while their own  back Chris
Carson ran 16 times for 91 yards.
The Seahawks ran and run the ball
almost the same amount thought
the passes for touchdowns looked
better.  See how they do next week
at home against Baltimore Ravens.

In the college game the Washington
State Cougars were able to come
back to win this week after a upset
last week. This time they beat Portland
State 44-24. The big quarter was the
second when they scored 23 points.
The other three quarters the Cougars
scored a touchdown in each. Defense
side though they gave up 296 yards
passing to Portland State. They will
have to improve  if they want to be
able to beat USC Trojans next week.
It won't be easy task for sure and
USC should be favored.

Continue on the football side. The
Washington Huskies continue not
to look good. They lost to Michigan
31-10. The Huskies offense didn't
look good once again especially in
the first half where they were shut
out. They finally kicked a field goal
in the third quarter and a touchdown
in the fourth quarter.

It is unbelievable how this team
looks this year offensively. After
last season they looked so good
especially running the ball.  This
year awful so far. The two primary
running backs in this game  were
Richard Newton and Cameron Davis
combined together ran for 46 yards.
Last year the running game ran
the ball for 200 yards at least twice.

Terrell Bynum who missed last weeks
game returned where he caught five
passes for 115 yards. Arkansas State
the Huskies play next week at home
have scored at least 40 points in their
previous two games and are 1-1 on
the season. They did give up 55 points
in this last weekend game while scoring
50. We will have to see how the Huskies
do in this one.

Turning to baseball we were hoping the
Mariners would sweep the Arizona
Diamondbacks as they did on the road
last weekend, however, it wasn't meant
to be. The Diamond backs took the last
two games in the season. Like many of
the Mariners losses came down to lack
of offense though Arizona won 7-3 in
the middle game of the series. The other
two games the scores were 5-4 with the
Mariners winning the first and Arizona
the last on Sunday. Jarred Kelenic made
Sunday's interesting hitting a two-run
homer in the 9th inning.

The Mariners now take on the Boston
Red Sox for three games Monday thru
Wednesday. For the Mariners to stay
in the wild card race they need to beat
the Sox two out of three at least. We
wish them the best for sure.

I am sorry I wasn't here for the last
couple days as I wasn't in good health.
Thanks again for visiting my posts
whenever you can. I do really appreciate.

Football Weekend

After last Saturday games with the
Huskies being upset in a big way
and the Cougars to though a closer
game. Let's try it again with a
better outcome.

The Huskies game certainly was
a big surprise loss. They were
without their three starting receivers
along with running backs Sean
McGrew and Kamari Pleasants.
Not sure what happened with them.
I hope they return this week against
Michigan.

The Michigan Wolverines are favored
now by a touchdown  against the
Huskies where Washington was
expected to win being ranked #20
going into week one.

Actually Ja'Lynn Polk a transfer from
Texas Tech did start, however, he was
injured on the one pass he caught for
13 yards. Monday's press conference
Coach Jimmy Lake said Polk is lost
for the season. Also, the other two
starters are day to day and may miss
this weeks game too. The Huskies
have a depth problem at wide receiver.
Lake said could move a player or two
to receiver as well.

The WSU Cougars will need to improve
this week in performance as well. They
will be taking on Portland State at 3 pm.
They should be favored and they do need
to win because next week they take on
USC Trojans to start the Pac-12 schedule.

The Seahawks will be taking on the Colts
in Indianapolis on Sunday. It will be a
morning game here in the Pacific time
zone. Left tackle Duane Brown did get
a bonus so he will be in the lineup.

Carson Wentz  the Colts starting quarterback
is expected to start the game after being
injured for most of training camp. If he
can't go or they want to limit Wentz snaps
former Husky Jacob Eason can be pressed
into action as the Colts number two qb.

It will be interesting to see the Seahawks
new offense since we didn't see Russell
Wilson and most of the starters during
the three preseason games. The Seahawks
should be expected to run the ball more
than pass. The new offense though we will
see Wilson throwing more shorter passes
than long ones which we have been
accustomed to. I am sure the long passes
are still in the play book though. It will be
good to see Lockett's speed and DK
Metcalf running over defensemen.

Another difference we will see more
of Wilson under the center instead of
at shut gun. Fans be ready to go too.
Though the game is on the road the
team still needs to feel the 12th man.
