Mariners Pitching

The first four starters should be automatic.
Luis Castillo,  Logan Gilbert, Robbie Ray
and George Kirby.  The 5th starter is the
one up for competition.

Right now the Mariners  have Marco
Gonzales  and Chris Flexen  as the two
veterans competing for the 5th spot.
Both could  be traded before or during
training camp. Either one could be in
the Mariners  bullpen to. Both ones
salaries are high to be in the bullpen.
Marco hasn't  pitched out of the bullpen
since being  with the Mariners. Both
he and Flexen would likely pitch multiple
out of the bullpen. The question is how
spots be available for them. Most likely
the Mariners  will go with eight pitchers
in the bullpen.

Emerson  Hancock  number one pick by
the Mariners in 2020 is the likely candidate
of the youngsters  to be the fifth starter. He
could begin the season  in double-A Arkansas
and be called up in May like George Kirby.

Two other youngsters are #5 prospect Bryce
Miller and #7 prospect Taylor Dollard. They
to could start at double-A Arkansas as well.
A lot may depend on the health of the starters
as well.

The bullpen as I  said will likely  be  eight.
There are five that are almost for sure.
There is Paul Sewald and Diego Castillo
as the veterans along with Andres Munoz,
Matt Brash and Penn Murfee coming into
their second season. Munoz and Brash may
make their ways into the end of the bullpen.
Depending  on the others competing for the
bullpen we could see Diego Castillo being
dealt to a team needing  a veteran in their bullpen

This means the Mariners  may have two spots
open in the bullpen if either Gonzales or Flexen
go the bullpen. The Mariners acquired Chris Clarke
in the rule 5 draft in December so he has to be
on the roster or sent back to  the  Chicago Cubs.
The Mariners  had Matt Festa most of last season
as well.

The Mariners  signed Casey Sadler to a minor league
contract in December.  Sadler  missed all last season
because of injury.  In 2021 Sadler had an outstanding
season for the Mariners so if he is healthy and a strong
spring  training  could be on the roster. The Mariners
traded for Justin  Topa from the  Milwaukee Brewers
in January. They will have other minor leaguers invited
to camp to. It will be interesting to  see what the bullpen
will look like coming out of camp. Go M's. 7

Ready For Mariners Baseball

Now that February  begins on Wednesday
means baseball  is about ready to  start.
Players will begin to report to camp.

Those who don't  have  a  team being
free agents could still sign with the Mariners.
Bringing in a player who can play third
and first base would be a priority along
with another catcher. Another outfielder
with experience  would be  good to.

A look at position  to position

Catcher : Cal Raleigh the primary starter
with Tom Murphy as the backup. Cooper
Hummel if he makes the team is listed
as an outfielder,  however, he would be
the third catcher. With needing catchers
for spring training  there will be some
minor leaguers  invited.

First base: Ty France  is the everyday
starter. Right now Dylan Moore is listed
as the backup.  Evan White who has been
injured the last couple seasons could be
backup and play some outfield to if he
makes the opening roster. Most likely
White will start the season in Tacoma.

Second  base: Kolten Wong and Dylan Moore
are expected  to  platoon. Wong expected
against righties  while Moore against lefties.
Tommy La Stella  recently signed may play
some  second base to.

Third base: Eugenio Suarez will start most of
the time with an additional time at dh if the
Mariners  want to give a day off in the field.
If so LA Stella or Moore can play there unless
the Mariners acquire another player.

Shortstop: JP Crawford  is the everyday player.
Dylan Moore  will play when Crawford needs a
day off.

Left Field: Jarred Kelenic  expected to  start
against righties  as long as he has a good spring.
AJ Pollock  is  expected to start against lefties
well as dh at times.  Taylor Trammell could be
in left field  if he has a better spring then Kelenic.
We could see Sam Haggerty  in left as well.

Center Field: Julio Rodriguez  most of the time.
We could see Kelenic  in center or Dylan Moore
if Julio  needs a day off. We would expect Julio
dh when that happens.

Right Field: Teoscar Hernandez  be the everyday
starter. We could see Sam Haggerty  on a day off
or Kelenic or Trammell.

Note: this could change  depending  on  spring training
and any new acquisitions.

Next post  we will  look at the pitching. Go M's

Two Wins and Loss

We start with loss first. The
Washington Huskies were
blown out by Arizona Saturday
afternoon 95-72.

The blow out wasn't a big
surprise going into the game
but the Huskies led most of
the first half though halftime
was Arizona 38-36.Second
half was all Arizona.

The Huskies showed what they
are capable of with their talent
but couldn't sustain it. The Huskies now go on the road to
play UCLA on Thursday and
then USC on Saturday. They play the Cougars the following
Saturday. We will see how they
do over the next three games.

Keion Roberts Jr and Keion Merrifield scored 46 of the
Huskies points. Merrifield a
freshman has been a  surprise.
The Huskies future with him
and fellow freshman Koren Johnson looks bright. Whether
Coach Mike Hopkins be still
around we don't know.

Washington State Cougars
played well besting Arizona State 75-58. Not great road
trip losing to the two Washington schools. They had
done well beforehand.

Forward Andrej Jakkimovski
led the Cougars with 22 points
and Justin Powell had 20.
Mouhamed Gueye had 11 points and 15 rebounds.

The Cougars have been inconsistent on the season. They must play well
to get a win at either USC or
UCLA this week.

At this point the Huskies and
Cougars look to be in.the middle of the pack in conference. The last they
play UCLA and USC on the
season unless in the Pac-12
tournament. Both teams
should do well in the second
half of February after facing
each other. The Oregon Ducks
is the only difficult team they
are playing.

As expected Gonzaga beat
Portland Pilots 82-67. Not as
big a blow as their first game
in Spokane. The Bulldogs only
led 35-29 at halftime but took
care of business in the second.

Guard Julian Strawther who has played well on the season
but not what they expected
went off for 40 points. Maybe
Gonzaga will benefit the rest
of the way.

Forward Anton Watson was
the only other one to score
in double figures with 17.
Leading scorer Drew Time
had only 8 points but he
needed a game off. Lol
This week the Zags will be
home Thursday against
Santa Clara followed by
Saint Mary's Saturday on
the road.Let you know how they do.

Mariners and Seahawks off-seasons

We are now looking at the off-season
for our Seattle Mariners  and Seahawks.

The Mariners spring training  begins in
February  so players will be reporting
soon.

Jerry Dipoto  president of baseball
operations  said the team needs a
corner infielder after signing AJ
Pollock for the outfield. They signed
Tommy LA Stella recently let go
by the San Francisco Giants. The
Mariners  are hoping  he get somewhere
near what he used to do. He is listed
as the dh on the 40-man roster. His
experience  has been  at second base.
Wouldn't surprise me if he works out
at first or third base though right now
Dylan Moore should be considered
Eugenio Suarez backup  as well as
platooning at second base. The Mariners
can still  find a player for first and third.

The Seahawks  have signed a number
of players to future contracts who likely
will  see on the practice squad though
or two could make the opening day roster.
The likelihood  isn't  great since they have
nine draft picks at this point with at least
five will be on the opening day roster.

The big question  when will Geno Smith
sign for the Seahawks and how many years.
The amount and years are in question.  We
hear anywhere from $25 million to $35  million
per year. The high number could strap the
Seahawks  on the salary  cap so how much
is quranteed will be the answer.

We have different sites putting out a mock draft
but I  wonder how many teams will pick what
any of the mock drafts show. The key who actually
goes first and the Seahawks at number five decide
to do. The Seahawks  could slide down and add an
additional  pick. Most feel the Seahawks won't
draft a quarterback that early  but if the right one
comes along they may. Does the quarterback sit
behind Geno Smith for a season? The likelihood
the Seahawks will draft a defensive  lineman with
first pick. They may do so with the second pick too.
Just like they picked two offensive tackles last year.

Right now we have  college basketball to watch.
The Huskies  and Cougars are not playing well.
Gonzaga  not playing  as well as expected. An
NBA fan there is the Portland Trail Blazers after all.

We continue to  see what continues to happen.
Enjoy your sport teams.

Huskies Win Cougars Lose

The Washington  Huskies  found a way
to win despite getting off to a slow
start as they do most of the time.

Early  on the Huskies  allowed Arizona
State to get off on a 12-0 lead before
getting their act together for a little
while anyway.  During that stretch they
had half the night's  turnovers with 11.

The Huskies did well the rest of the first
half leading 32-20. Second half was the
Sun Devils. The Huskies had the game won
but Keion Brooks Jr fouled allowing the
Sun Devils to tie the game with three foul
shots under a second remaing. Fortunately
the Huskies won the overtime. Huskies 69
Sun Devils  66.

The Huskies  were  lead by Keion Brooks Jr
with 22 points while Noah Williams has been
playing well  with  18. Braxton Meah led the
Huskies with 11 rebounds. The Huskies went
with the starting  five most of the way despite
the terrible start. The question is the problem
with the players or coaching or both.

As expected the Washington State Cougars were
beat by Arizona 63-58. Why I  say expected because
their first meeting  in Arizona the Cougars upset the
Wildcats and they couldn't afford another loss to the
Cougars. Both teams  had only two players scoring
in double figures. For the Cougars Mouhamed Gueye
and Justin Powell  each had 15 points. Jabe Mullins
who has been averaging 10.5 points a game coming
off the bench had zero in this one while playing 14
minutes. If he had scored half of his average the
game would have gone into overtime.

The Huskies are now seventh place by themselves
with 5-6 record in Pac-12 while the Cougars are tied
with Colorado in 8th place with 4-6. Now we see if
Huskies can sweep the Arizona schools with a win
over Arizona. With the way they are playing I doubt
it much.

Next week  won't  be  any easier as both schools take
on UCLA  and USC on the road. Both could be sinking
fast.

Let you know I  haven't  forgotten  about Gonzaga. They didn't
play Thursday night. They play the Portland  Pilots in Portland
Saturday  afternoon. The beat the Pilots two weeks  by 40
points. Whether  they win by that much again or not they
should win.

Seahawks Wednesday

Since the Seahawks  season  ended
with the loss to the 49ers  in the first
round of the playoffs  they have signed
several players to future contracts.
Most have been on the practice squad.

I guess we have to see how the  new
USFL works out. It would be good if
players who want to  play in the NFL
and are on the fringe or practice squad
are able to play  in the spring.

The Seattle  USFL team is the Dragons
and their head coach is Jim Hanslett
former NFL  linebacker. Most of the
names on the Dragons team I don't
know. The most notable name is
Kasen Williams former Washington
Huskies and Seahawks player. It
would be nice to see more Huskies
and Cougars players on the roster.

Speaking of former Huskies  players
Jacob Eason who spent some time
with the  Seahawks  has signed a deal
with the  Carolina Panthers where he
spent some time last year on their
practice squad  before being let go
and going to  the 49ers practice squad.
Eason will have  more opportunity to
see what he can do this year. He originally
was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts.

We are still  waiting  to  see when Geno Smith
signs with the Seahawks or someone else.
Go Hawks!

Mariners Tuesday

Spring  training  is  coming up
less than three weeks.  I  am
sure all of us baseball fans
are ready for  it.

Are the Mariners  in for making
another trade before training  camp.
Remember  the Jesse Winker and
Eugenio Suarez trade happened at
training  time.

I read a story  on  line about the
Mariners  trading Jarred Kelenic
to the Cincinnati Reds.  Not sure
whether happen or not. Didn't
see who they will get in return
either whether prospects or a
major league player.

I expect Kelenic  along with Trammel
will compete for the left field spot
against righties. Expect AJ Pollock
playing against lefties. All three if
on the ball club will dh some as well.

Former Mariner Jake Fraley had a good
season  last year for the Reds batting
.259 and obs of .344. I expect he is
playing in a platoon situation as well.
He had 12 home runs as well.  It would
be nice if Kelenic  and or Trammell have
Fraley's batting average.  They both have
more power than Fraley.  With the World
Baseball Classic happening in March
and Julio Rodriguez playing  for Dominican
Republic  Kelenic and Trammell  will  get
plenty of at bats. Go M's.

Washington State Swept On the Road

The Cougars who had been  playing
some good basketball  were beaten
Sunday by the Colorado Buffaloes
58- 55.

It was a close game but as we have
close only counts in horseshoes.
The Cougars now take on Arizona
who they upset on January  7th
74-61 in Arizona. The Cougars are
hoping to do repeat  performance.

The Cougars and the Huskies  along
with Colorado  are tied for seventh
in the Pac-12.  Utah who beat both
schools are in second place behind
UCLA.

Former Huskies guard Marcus Tsohonis
who is now at Long Beach  State had
49 points on Saturday  in a triple overtime
win. Marcus is averaging  14.3 points a
a game this season.  He played two years
at Washington  before transferring  to
Virginia  Commonwealth  where he was at
last season. The Huskies could be using
Marcus for sure. He was a part-time
starter than exited with six other players
after a terrible  season  that year.

Jamal Bey a starter for most of his five years
at Washington  has been sent to the bench.
He didn't  play at all in the win over Colorado
and two  minutes in the loss to  Utah. It looks
like coach Mike Hopkins  is going with the
future playing freshmen  Merrifield and Koren
Johnson in the backcourt.

The Huskies are primarily going with seven man
rotation  with Johnson and PJ Fuller  coming off
the bench. Fuller who started many pre conference
gamesis now back coming off the bench with the
return of Noah Williams who missed many games
because of injuries.

The two freshmen  future looks good now it is
hard to  know  head coach Mike Hopkins future
looks like. The Huskies though talented are not
playing  well  though did well against Arizona on
the road.  The  Huskies  have  to be more consistent
or send Hopkins  on his way.

Washington Huskies Blown Outi

The Washington Huskies never  led Saturday in their loss to
Utah 86-61.

Brandon Carlson Utah's center
had 25 points for his third game in a row over 20.

The Huskies shot poorly making 23 of 66 from the field.
Didn't know how to work against the Utes defense.

Keion Brooks led the Huskies
with 17 points and 9 rebounds. The Huskies primarily going with a seven man rotation with PJ Fuller and freshman Koren Johnson coming off the bench.
Fuller was a starter until Noah Williams came back to full strength from his injury.

Good news the Huskies split
the road trip beating Colorado Thursday night. The bad news
they should be playing better
ball. They should be in the top
of the conference. They might
have still lost to Utah but had
a closer game.

What does it mean for Huskies
program? Mike Hopkins needs
to go. Either hire within or go
outside the team.

The Huskies come home to
play Arizona and Arizona this
week. Second playing the. A
split in the series would be good. Did play Arizona well
on their court.

The Gonzaga Bulldogs pulled
out a victory over Pacific 99-90.
The Bulldogs have had a rough
season having many close
games. Sounds like they don't
have as good a team as in past
years.

Drew Time continues having
a great final season at Gonzaga. He led the Bulldogs
with 38 points.

This week Gonzaga plays on Saturday afternoon at Portland. In their last outing on January
L14 the Bulldogs won 115-75.
Expect an easy win.

WSU Cougars take on Colorado Sunday afternoon. They should
be favored in this one.
They will play Arizona night at
home  on Thursday night.

Washington Huskies Win Gonzaga upset

The three major Washington colleges the Huskies were
the only one to win. They beat
Colorado on their court 75-72.

Not all too news. The Huskies
had a 13 point lead early second half. The Buffaloes got
back into the game by pressing and caused the Huskies turnover the ball 22 times on
the night.

Makes me think the Huskies need better coaching and leadership on the court. Keion
Brooks Jr. led the Huskies with
25 points shooting 9 for 12
from the field. Brooks though
had five turnovers in the second half including stepping out of bounds.

TheHuskies have won three games in a row and tied for seventh in Pac-12.

The WSU Cougars lost to Utah
on their court 77-63. The Cougars primarily lost because
Utah's center Branden Carlson
had a career night with 28. Two more than their next two leading scorers combined.

The Cougars were tied 29-29
when Carlson went off scoring six straight points near the end
of the first half. The Lutes
led at half 39-31. Extended the
lead further in second half.
The Cougars are tied with Huskies while Utah is third place 6-3 behind UCLA who is
undefeated while Arizona State
is 6-2. The Cougars take on
Colorado on Sunday and see
to redeem themselves. The Utes will take on the Huskies
on Saturday.

Gonzaga Bulldogs were upset
at home by Loyola Marymount
68-67. Loyola's win snapped
a 76 game winning streak at home for Gonzaga. Also the
first time winning at Gonzaga
in 32 years. Quite the night.
Guard Cam Shelton made
the winning basket with a
driving layup at 12.5 seconds
remaining in the game. Gonzaga tries to come back
on Saturday at Pacific. Go Zags!

Geno Smith yes or no?

Head coach Pete Carroll  said they will
be signing Geno Smith to a long term
contract. Of course, it will depend on
how much they offer.

I  heard Seahawks  analyst Hugh Millen
on KJR FM depends on how  much.
Millen said $30 million a year will be
too much. Whether he is worth that
much or not.

According  to  Millen the Seahawks had
two players over $10 million this last
last season, however,  this coming season
they will have seven not counting Geno.
The Seahawks  pay Geno $30 million or
more will put a strap on the salary  cap.

This means the Seahawks  would have
to release at least one other player. Also,
means not as good of a team. If they
signed  Geno  to $25 million better According
to Millen.

I know that I  don't  understand  the  salary cap
other then the amount. The Seahawks could
sign Geno  to a five year deal with a good
quarantee. The salary  could begin at $25
and end at $30 million.

We will now see in a few days what the Seahawks
actually  do. Remember the Seahawks have nine
draft picks coming up right now. At least five of
them will make the team and they will  be better
for it. Go Hawks!

College Basketball Wednesday

The Washington  Huskies , the Cougars
and Gonzaga all play on Thursday  night.

The Huskies take on Colorado on Thursday
after sweeping Stanford and California.
The Buffaloes almost upset  UCLA  last
weekend  so they should be a tough
opponent. The Huskies  will take on
Utah  on Saturday.

WSU  will play Utah Thursday then Colorado
on Sunday. The Cougars also swept Stanford
and California though they only won by one
point. The Cougars  are  playing  good ball
so they could sweep on the road but likely
will split if they are lucky.

The Huskies on the other hand are not
going to be favored in either game. In
fact they will probably lose both games
unless they play better.

Gonzaga so far is undefeated in 2023
though three of their four games have
been real close. Bulldogs  won by a
large margin  on Saturday beating
Portland  115-75. As you can imagine
none of their players went 30 minutes.
They play Loyola of Marymount on Thursday
and Pacific on Saturday.

Have a good time  watching any of the games
or all of them.

Seahawks Tuesday

Now that the Seahawks  season  is  over there
are those setting  up mock drafts coming up.
Not doing myself  though we know the Seahawks
have some needs after the loss to 49ers.

The Seahawks  right now have nine draft picks.
Four in the first two rounds which will  help
them for sure. The first round they have the
5th and 20th picks overall.

Geno Smith  said in his  post playoff press
conference  he wants to return. With help
needed on the defense  for sure the Seahawks
probably  chose there unless some great QB,
running back  or receiver is available.

The Seahawks  likely  draft a defensive  tackle,
edge rusher and linebacker  with three of the
four picks in the first two rounds. Not necessarily
in that order. They could pick a cornerback as
well though the need isn't  as great but the right
one falls to them they will.

I believe  the Seahawks will draft a quarterback
along with a receiver and running back but not
necessarily.  We will  talk about that later.

The playoff game they showed needing a
linebacker.  With Jordyn Brooks out for some
time they were playing at least two linebackers
who I didn't  even know were on the team.
I am not sure warrants the first pick though
the right one comes along go for it.

I  could see the Seahawks  picking the best
Edge rusher and defensive tackle available
in the first round. Enjoy the off-season.

Seattle Mariners A Busy Time

Though the Mariners  didn’t  make
any trades or sign major league  free
agents they have been busy signing
several current players who qualified
for arbitration and new young international
players. They still have work to do on
both fronts.

Ty France,  Paul Sewald and Tom Murphy
we're signed avoiding arbitration. The
Mariners  still have a few more to sign
or go through arbitration.

The Mariners  signed seven international
players on Sunday with a few more to
come.  These are all 16 and 17 year olds
so be a few years before we see them.
One or two of them could be the next
Julio Rodriguez.  The top signing  is
Felnin Celesten a shortstop  from the
Dominican Republic. He was the number
two international prospect on the board.
Felnin is considered the top shortstop
internationally in a decade. We will keep
you up to date on him and the other players.
In the Mariners  next top 30 prospects Felnin
will be in the front of the prospect list. Go M's.

Seahawks Season Over and More

The Seattle Seahawks lost Saturday afternoon in the first
round of the playoffs to the
SF 49ers 41-23.

Takeaways:

The first quarter looked like what the final score looks like.
The offense and defense couldn't do anything right. The
49ers scored ten while the
Seahawks had zero.

Second quarter both offense and defense came alive and
the Seahawks scored 17 points
while 49ers had two field goals
so Seahawks led 17-16.

Third quarter was like the first
quarter though 49ers scored a
touchdown.

Fourth quarter was worse a
total disaster. Geno Smith
fumbled the ball which the
49ers recovered. San Francisco
ended up with a touchdown then made two point conversation. This point on
the Seahawks defense couldn't
have stopped a fly. The  49ers
scored 18 points this period.
The difference in the game.

Look forward: the Seahawks
have two first round and two
second round picks at this
point in the upcoming draft.
They could trade down and
add more picks or trade up
and have one less pick. Trading
up they could trade either first
pick though number 5 they got
in the Russell Wilson trade most likely. Trading up they swap picks and give up one of
the second rounders. Have to
figure the four picks ahead the
teams are rebuilding and the
additional pick will do.them
well. Get back to this later.

The Washington Huskies beat
California Golden Bears Saturday as  81-78 in overtime.
This game was supposed to
be like the Stanford game on
Thursday but didn't turn out
that way. California led by
seven at halftime and most
of the second. Fortunately
the Huskies rallied to tie at
end of regulations.

The Huskies had hard time
stopping California's freshman
Grant Newell who had 21 points. Newell averages 8.2
points a game. They had three
other players in double figures.

The Huskies were led by Keion
Brooks Jr. with 26 points.
Noah Williams transfer from
WSU who missed most of the
non-league games had his
best game since returning with
22 points. Brooks had his second double in a row with
ten rebounds. Freshman Koren
Johnson coming off the bench
with 15. He is showing now
why he was the best player in
Washington high schools last
season.

WSU Cougars had a difficult
time on Saturday as well though winning 60-59 over
Stanford. The Cougars were led
by Andrej Jakimovski with 17
points. DJ Rodman was the only other one in.double figure
with 15.

The Cougars and Huskies now go on the road to play Utah and Colorado this week. The Cougars are now 7th in the
conference while the Huskies
are eighth. Both teams need
to split the series with Utah and
Colorado to keep their spot at
least.

The Kraken beat Chicago Blackhawks Saturday night
8-5. It is the first time in
NHL history a team sweep
a seven game series on the
road. The Kraken scored six
goals in the first period. I
expect that hasn't happened
often either. The Kraken and LA Kings are tied for second in Pacific division with 56. Las Vegas right ahead with 58.
Kraken record 26-12-4.

Seahawks -49er Playoff Game

The Seahawks play the 49ers
Saturday afternoon in the first
round of the playoffs.

Expected: the 49ers are big
favorites to win the game
after beating the Seahawks
in the two regular season
games.

Seahawks must do: it will
be hard but they have to
play their best game of
the season and the 49ers
not good at all.

What the 49ers have: a rookie
quarterback in Purdy. The
Seahawks will have to raddle
Purdy and cause turnovers.
The 49ers have a pretty good
running game and the Seahawks have to stop them.
Over the season the Seahawks
haven't been able to stop the
running game for the most
part. They have to go back
to when they have had success
against the run. Another thing
the 49ers defense has been
good against the run and
the Seahawks have to run
successfully to win.

Seahawks have: a team not
expected to win so they
should do some unexpected
things to win. Maybe a few
trick plays.

49ers should and probably
will win. The Seahawks were
not expected to be in the
playoffs this season so OK
they lose anyway.

You: enjoy the game no
matter the results.

Felix Into Mariners Hall of Fame

The Seattle  Mariners  announced Felix Hernandez
will be inducted into the Mariners  Hall of  Fame on
the weekend  of August
11-13.

It should be a great time  and a sellout  crowd to boot. Perfect timing with the all-star  game happening in July.
Makes sense since he is the second best pitcher  in  Mariners  history and
number one Randy Johnson is in and Jamie Moyer who is number three is in too.

We hope the Mariners  will be right up with the Astros in the division as well. Be great to  have  some great crowds
leading into Felix  HOF day.

The WSU Cougars beat California Golden Bears
Wednesday night 66-51
in Pullman. The Cougars had three players in double figures.
DJ Rodman and Mouhamed
each had 14 points while
Justin Powell had 12. Rodman
having a good season led
with six rebounds.

The Washington Huskies beat
Stanford at home 86-69.
The Huskies again got off to
a slow start, however, led
47-29. The Huskies were
led in scoring by center
Braxton Meah with 21 points.
The Cardinal couldn't stop
Mean making eight dunks.
The Huskies had five players
in double figures. Keion Brooks
had 19 points and 11 rebounds.
Freshman Koren Johnson
had 15 points.

The Cougars take on Stanford
while the Huskies play California both on Saturday.
The Cougars and Huskies each
should be favored.

The Seattle Kraken  are on a seven  game winning streak  including six  on their
seven game road trip. The Kraken beat the Boston  Bruins Thursday night 3-0. Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday.
When they return home they have seven games before going on the road again.

The Kraken  are currently  25-12-4 on the season and third place in the Pacific division.
At this point they look to  make the playoffs. On this six  games on the road the Kraken have scored 29 goals which is amazing. Also, have given up only ten goals in these
games.  Keep  it  going Kraken.  😊😊😊

Mariners Young Starting pitching

The opening of spring  training for the
Seattle  Mariners  is about a month away.
Spring  training  games begin on February
24.

This year will be the World Baseball  Classic
so several player will be out of camp for a
couple weeks playing for their home country.
Some players will be minor leaguers  so
won't  affect the  Mariners. Julio Rodriguez
and Matt Brash  will be two will play in the
WBC.

We know in the starting  rotation  Logan Gilbert
and George  Kirby  will  be two youngsters who
will make their next step in development.  Emerson
Hancock  is  the  next one to  look into making
the rotation this year.  Bryce Miller  and Taylor
Dillard are two  other youngsters to make names
for themselves  and  have impact on the rotation.

President  of  baseball  operations  Jerry Dipoto
had thought of bringing Matt Brash  back into
the rotation  but since he will be in the WBC
as a reliever for Canada  best to leave him there.
Brash and Andre Munoz will be two key pitchers
coming out of the bullpen.

Chris  Flexen  and Marco Gonzales will be two
veterans  going for the fifth starter if either are
not traded. My opinion they should not stand in
the way if Hancock or another youngster can start.
Even if Flexen and Marco start spring  training
with the  Mariners they could be traded before
the start of the season.  Another team could be
in need of a starter if an injury happens.

Say Flexen and Maco end in the bullpen which
is unlikely  because of the relievers they already
have one or both  should be used as the first
pitcher out of the bullpen. This for sure whoever
is the fifth starter.  The Mariners  should not be
concerned whether the 5th starter  can go five
innings  or not. Of course,  it will  be nice if they
can more times than not. Have to  figure Flexen
and Marco can go at least two innings before
using the rest of the pen. Go M's.

Seahawks Makes The Playoffs

Against the odds the Seattle Seahawks
made the playoffs  by beating  the LA
Rams in overtime 19-16. At the same
time they needed the Detroit  Lions
on Sunday  night football beat Green
Bay Packers which they did 20-16.

Both games almost marred each other.
Both came down to close calls and
interceptions  setup each win. Quantra
Diggs intercepted a pass in overtime
to setup  the winning field goal for the
Seahawks. The Seahawks had a chance
to win in regulation but missed a field goal
at the end hitting the goal post.

The Detroit Lions  won by an interception
setting  up  a touchdown  down to go ahead.
The Lions had the ball at the end of regulation
time. Interesting  thing happened the Packers
had offside penalty on second and one yard.
The Lions instead of accepting the penalty
declined and made a first down on a pass.
Not accepting  the  penalty made the clock go
down and run an extra play. Certainly never
seen that happen again.

Now the Seahawks are playing the San Francisco
49ers on Saturday  afternoon  in the first round.
The 49ers  won both games in regular season but
the odds of beating the same team three times
is high. The 49ers  will be favored and likely will
win but at least the Seahawks have a chance.
Personally  I  don't like division  foes playing
each other in the first round but that is the rules.
Go Hawks!

WSU Upset Arizona and Mariners Add Outfielder

The Washington  State  Cougars  beat
Arizona 74-61 on the road. It was the
biggest win for the Cougars  since 1983.
They beat UCLA  at home back then.

The Cougars are playing very good  ball
now though they lost to Arizona  State
on Thursday. Arizona was ranked #5 in
the country  so the biggest seed since
UCLA  they have beaten. Also, this ended
a 28 game winning streak at home for
Arizona.

The Cougars had four players  score in
double figures led by Mouhamed Gueye
with 24 points. Also  he had 14 rebounds.
He averages 14 points and 8.8 rebounds
a game as a sophomore.

The Cougars will be home on Wednesday
to take on the California  Golden Bears.
California  isn't  good team having a
2-3 record in conference while 3-13 overall
on the season.

The Seattle  Mariners  are reported  to  be
signing veteran outfielder  AJ Pollock to a
one year contract.  Last season Pollock
played for the Chicago White Sox where
he averaged .245 and had 14 home runs.
Pollock is expected to platoon  with Jarred
Kelenic in left field going against left handed
pitching. Can see him be at dh at times as well.
The Mariners  don't  have  a  dh at this time.
The spot will be taken up by several  different
players.

The Mariners  will likely  sign or trade for an
infielder who can spell Ty France at first base
and Eugenio  Suarez at third. This player could
dh as well.  This means at this time Dylan Moore
will likely  platoon at second  base and give JP
Crawford a day off on occasion at shortstop.
Spring  training is  a out six weeks  away. Go M's.

Will Seahawks Win.Sunday?

The Seattle Seahawks should
win on Sunday against the Rams but will they?

Even if they do the Lions have
to win Sunday Night. How far
will the Seahawks go in the
playoffs or will the their number
one pick be more available if
they don't. I am not saying the
pick from Denver for Russell
Wilson but their own.

No one expected the Seahawks
to be in the playoffs so whether
they do or not we should be
happy as fans.

Enjoy the game no matter the
results. The same goes for
the first round of the playoffs
if they do get in. Go Hawks!

Washington Huskies Narrow Loss

The Washington  Huskies  men's basketball
team may have had one of their best games
of the season  though they lost.

In the first half the Huskies actually  led
by eight points. In the end they lost 70-67
to the Arizona Wildcats. It was a better
game than I expected.

Though the Huskies lost who knows this
could turn around  their season. The Huskies
play the Arizona State  Sun Devils on Sunday
who beat WSU  Cougars in a similar fashion
on Thursday  night to. The Cougars lost
71-66. The main difference the Cougars
were  down at halftime but scored the
exact same points as Sun Devils in the
second half.

The Huskies were led  by Keion Brooks Jr
and Cole Bajema each with 16 points.
They have  been  the Huskies top two scorers
all season  long. Noah Williams who recently
came back from injury missing most of the
non-league schedule had 12 points. This was
his first time back starting.

The Huskies  pretty much went with a seven
man rotation.  Jamal Bey and PJ Fuller who
have started most of the season came off
the bench. Sounds like a good idea. Hope
the lineup  the same on Sunday.  Go Dawgs!

The Washington State Cougars Transfer Portal

These  days the transfer portal is reality.
It hasn't  been  kind to the Cougars football
team.

I wonder if the reflection is on the coaching
staff or the future of the Pac-12. At this  point
USC  and UCLA are leaving the conference for
the Big Ten. Next question  will Washington
and Oregon leave as well.

Since December 2, 2022 16 Cougar football
players have gone into the transfer while 2
have transferred  in so far.

I am sure some players  want to go to a
bigger program while others has to to do
with playing  time or lack of it.

The Washington  Huskies  on the other hand
have 9 players going through  the transfer
portal. They are all with little playing time
or in one case was suspended this last
season. The Huskies right now  have  8
players transfer in so far. I  expect most of
these players will  have  more playing time
than the ones who transferred out.

We will  see how it continues down the road
before next season  begins. Hopefully the
Cougars will still be able to  compete.

Putting Sports In Perspective

I am sure you are a sports fan you
heard about Damar Hamlin  cardiac
arrest in the first quarter of Monday
Night  Football  between  the Buffalo
Bills  and  the Cincinnati  Bengals.
The game was postponed  and  not
sure when it will  resume. Hamlin's
health  is more important.

Hamlin was taken to  a Cincinnati
Hospital  where he could be taken
care of. Hamlin was given CPR
before taken to hospital. The crowd
was silent and his teammates and
players of the Bengals to neat down
to pray.  There were tears and hugs
among the players and coaches.

For the night sports didn't  matter
any longer the life of this young man
was on everyone's mind. Sports will
resume but no one will be the same
again. We wish Damar Hamlin a speedy
recovery. Be with his mother who was
there watching him play and his whole
family and the Buffalo  Bills  too.
❤️❤️❤️

Gonzaga and WSU Both Win

The Gonzaga  Bulldogs  men's basketball  team
beat Pepperdine  on Saturday  111-88.

Drew Timme  is having  quite the  season. He
had 35 points to lead the  Bulldogs  while five
other of his teammates  scored in double figures
too. Timme  had 10 rebounds as well.

Gonzaga will  play at San Francisco  this Thursday
followed by Santa Clara on Saturday.  Let you know
how they do.

The Cougars beat USC at home on Sunday after
losing a one point game Thursday against UCLA.
Cougars 81 USC 71

It was important  win since it was the first win
Pac-12 losing their first  three games. Now they
go on the road  to play Arizona State on Thursday
and Arizona on Sunday. Both games will be tough
though beating ASU on Thursday will be important.

The Cougars were led by DJ Rodman and Jabe Mullins
with 16 points each. Rodman has been  a starter all
year long while Mullins  has  been coming off the bench
after returning  from  injury.  Expect Mullins to be back
in the starting  lineup  at some point.

The reason  the Cougars  won was they made 14 three point
shots to the Trojans  3. We wish the Cougars  the best this week.

Seattle. End Losing Streak

The Seattle Seahawks ended
their three game losing streak
beating the New York Jets
23-6.

The Seahawks end the season
next Sunday. They play the
LA Rams at home. The Seahawks will make playoffs
if they beat the Rams and
the Green Bay Packers are
beaten or tied by the Detroit
Lions.

The Seahawks won the game
by 17 points and the Jets
kicked two field goals in the
first half. The Seahawks scored
leading off the game with s
touchdown after running back
Ken Walker ran 60 yards on
the first play of the game.

In all Walker had 133 yards
rushing. So almost half the
yards on one play. The Jets
scoring six points was the
Seahawks playing good defense or Jets have an inept
offense. I would say the Jets
had an inept offense though
the Seahawks defense played
OK.

Geno Smith threw  the ball 29
times a little under half the
time which is the kind of game
the Seahawks like to play.

Tyler Lockett did play in the
game though only had two
catches. Geno Smith threw
two touchdown passes both
to tight ends. Colby Parkinson
caught one and Tyler Mabry
in for injured Will Dissly now
out for the season caught
the other his first career TD.
Now we hang on to see whether the Seahawks make
the playoffs or not.

In basketball the Washington Huskies lost to the UCLA
Bruins Sunday afternoon
74-49. The Bruins had four
players scoring in double
figures. They had all but
ten of UCLA's points.

The Huskies had only one
player in double figures in
center Braxton Meah with
20 points. Mesh has done better than expected this year.
Keion Brooks Jr the Huskies
leading scorer had only six points on the night. A major
reason the Bruins won the
game by a large margin.

Brooks is a transfer the Huskies got from Kentucky.
Brooks is looking to go to
the NBA. Whether he does
after this season or play
another year we will have to
see. Other teams in Pac-12
will look to stop him every
game. Stopping Brooks will
make it hard for the Huskies
to win. The Huskies go
to Arizona this coming Thursday and Arizona State
next Sunday afternoon. The.
Huskies will need to find a
way to win at least one of those games or this won't be a kind
season for them.
