Mariners Blown Out Twice By Yankees

The Mariners pitching hasn't been
the normal as it has been bring blown
out twice by the Yankees.

Monday night Bryce Miller had his first
bad outing since being called up giving
up eight runs in just over four innings.
Aaron Judge had two home runs and
a double in the 10-4 loss.

Tuesday night Logan Gilbert didn't do much
better giving up seven runs in four innings.
The Mariners brought up Darren McCaughan from Tacoma who pitched
the last three innings. McCaughan
originally was supposed to start for the
Rainier's on Tuesday night. Juan Then
who hsd pitched well for the Mariners
on his call up until recently was sent to
Tacoma. I expect we will see him again.
Whether McCaughan be still on.the roster
or the Mariners call up another pitcher
we will have to see.

Tuesday Aaron Judge had another home
run but he wasn't the reason for the loss.
The Yankees got production from a couple
players who are having good season but
I wouldn't say they are better than what
the Mariners have.

It is now for the Mariners to take the
final game of this series Wednesday.
Regardless the Mariners have had
a good homestand but a win to end
this would be good to head out to
Texas and take on the Rangers. Go M's.

Geno Geno Geno

Sunday afternoon the Mariners led
much of the game with Julio Rodriguez
hitting a home run in the first inning.
Cal Raleigh hit a home run in the 4th
making it 2-0 lead. Not a large margin
but still a lead.

The 5th inning the Pirates scored a run
then the Mariners added a run in the
bottom  to make it 3-1. Certainly a
good thing since the Pirates tied in
the eighth with a two run homer.

In the ninth it was interesting since
the Pirates had the bases loaded
with no outs and the chances were
good they would score at least one
run. Tayler Saucedo who has done
a good job since being promoted
from Tacoma struck out the side.

With JP Crawford and Jarred Kelenic
who was intentionally walked were
on first second with two outs. It looked
like the game would go into extra innings
with Eugenio Suarez up with a 2-2 count
he hit a massive three-run homer for a
walk off win 6-3. This happened to be
the Mariners first walk off of the season
and the last since Cal Raleigh's homer
last season to get them into the playoffs.
The one we will remember for many
years ahead.

Marco Gonzales deserved the victory
giving up one run in five and two-thirds
innings leading 3-1 at the time. Matt Brash
came into to finish the inning with runners
on base.  My opinion they need to change
the rule if the starter leaves with the lead
and the other team comes back to tie
or go ahead then your team wins he should
have the victory and Brash the save. Probably never happen but that is my
opinion. What getting the victory means
to the reliever anyway. Saucedo is now
2-0 so what the Mariners would need
a lot more ties or come from behind
wins with him on the mound to have
real meaning while a starter will have
a more reflection of his pitching if
he goes five innings or more. Outside
of win totals we have his era to judge
whether having a good season.

Now the Mariners face the Yankees in
three game series starting Monday.
Bryce Miller starts the series against
Domingo German. Tuesday will be
Logan Gilbert and Luis Castillo on
Wednesday.  It is interesting since
George Kirby will be skipped and
Castillo will start instead with one
day less day of rest. The Mariners
must feel it is the right thing to do.
Wonder it changes if the Mariners
win the first two games.  The
Mariners have Thursday off then
next week two days off when they
are on the road. We may see Kirby
start the opener against the Rangers
in Texas. Go M's.

Mariners and Luis Castillo Strike It Rich

The Seattle Mariners had another great
outing in a row by Luis Castillo as they
shutout the Pirates 5-0 Saturday afternoon
to even the series.

Castillo went six innings throwing 99
pitches while striking out ten batters
and walking two. The Pirates were
only able to get one hit off Castillo.
They didn't do much better off the
bullpen getting one hit off Gabe Speier.
Four relievers struck out seven Pirates.
At the same time walked one batter.

The Mariners didn't have a home run
in the game however had six doubles
which is a good sign in T-Mobile park.
I always thought the Mariners hit there
if they were able to hit doubles. Edgar
Martinez never seemed to have a lot
of trouble doing do. The Mariners were
led by Ty France with two doubles. Lead
off hitter JP Crawford had a couple
hits including a double and scored
twice. The really good news Julio
had two hits which included a double
as well. The Mariners are showing
when Julio hits they win more often.
It looks like he is over his season slump
so the Mariners could see more victories.

The Mariners have Marco going Sunday.
We hope he does well like in his last
outing as well. It would be great if the
Mariners can head into the Yankees
series with momentum.

Down on the farm Zach DeLoach who
was higher on the prospect list last
year is on a 13 game hitting streak
and batting .400 for Tacoma Rainiers.
On the season he is batting .298
while having a .399 on base percentage.
Sounds like if the Mariners need another
left handed bat in the outfield DeLoach
could be the man.

Right now Dylan Moore will be the next
man to be activated. The question who
will go Sam Haggerty or AJ Pollock. In
either case Moore will be the guy ahead
of either one since he can play both
infield or outfield. The question is how
long will they stick with Kolten Wong
as he is not hitting well either.  Moore
likely take Haggerty spot though Haggerty
is a switch hitter but not getting in a lot
of time at the plate. Jose Caballero is
doing well he is playing almost every
game whether second, third or shortstop.
This means we could see Moore in the
outfield against lefties and substituting
for Ty France at first and France at dh.
Go M's.

Kirby and Mariners Blown Out

George Kirby was going to have a
bad outing eventually so happen to
be in the opening game of the series
against the Pirates. Kirby was only
able to go four plus innings which
included four home runs and seven
runs total in final of 11-6.

It is too bad since six runs by the
Mariners would have won many
games they had already lost. Now
the question how will Kirby respond
in his next outing which should be
in the final game of the series against
the Yankees next Wednesday.

The Pirates had seven home runs total
in the game by far the most of the
season given up by the Mariners. This
year the Mariners have given up less
home runs then they have in the last
several seasons. We hope the power
by the Pirates ends and we don't see
again in the next two games.

It looks like maybe Julio is over his
season long slump. Friday night
he had two hits including a solo
home run in the first inning and drove
in three runs. JP Crawford supplied
most of the rest of the offense hitting
a two run homer in the seventh inning.

Luis Castillo will start Saturday night.
We hope he duplicates his last outing
for the Mariners to even the series.
Go M's.

Mariners Sweep A's

The Seattle  Mariners  again didn't have
a lot of offense but enough to  win 3-2.

Logan Gilbert  again pitched well again
after getting  in trouble  early by giving
up a two-run homer to outfielder Seth
Brown in the first inning.

Gilbert  was so effective  he went 8
innings throwing 77 pitches with 59
being strikes. In all Gilbert gave up
three hits and only one after the first.
No walks and striking out 6. Paul
Sewald who continues not slowing
down struck out two batters and
recorder his eleventh save. Sewald
has an era 3.18. Look at that if Sewald
pitches an inning each time out which
he does most of the time he gives up
just over a run in every three games.

JP Spears the A's  starter went only
five innings giving up three hits and
a run. Spears who has pitched well
against the Mariners you wonder he
had some issues since he threw only
59 pitches and 40 were strikes. He
could have gone another innings or
two easily.

Ty France returned to playing first base
after  missing Wednesday nights game.
Ty was all  the  offense the Mariners
needed. He hit solo home runs in the
first and sixth inning to tie the game
and won in the 8th without having a
hit. In all the Mariners had five hits.
Julio Rodriguez had two and Teoscar
Hernandez had the fifth hit. It looks
like Julio is coming out of his slump.

The Mariners are now 26-24. They have
a three game series at home against
the Pittsburgh Pirates and the another
against  the Yankees.

George Kirby  starts Friday night and if
he pitches like he has  the Mariners will
have a good shot at winning but won't
be easy as the Pirates start Mitch Keller
who has a record of 5-1 and an era of
2.44. We hope the Mariners  will have
another  one run victory. Go M's.

Wednesday, May 24, 2023

Bryce Miller Another Great Outing

Bryce  Miller  continues  pitch well for the
Mariners  going six innings and giving up
only two hits, one walk and six strike outs.
No runs by the way.

Now the Mariners have won the series
with one game to go. Final M's  6 A's 1

Again Miller  throws mostly fastballs.
Teams haven't  figured out to hit his
fastball.  I  am  sure  at some point a
team will light him so how Bryce responds
after that will be the big question.

The Mariners  big inning offensively was
the 4th inning when the Mariners scored
five runs. Sam Haggerty substituting for
Ty France who likely  will miss a few games
though the x-rays  were negative hit a double
with the bases loaded to score the first two
runs of the inning and game. Haggerty had
been up in his first  at bat with the bases
loaded as well but popped up to the first
baseman. At least  he was able to deliver
in the 4th. Later on in the 7th inning Teoscar
Hernandez hit a solo home run  to give the
five run lead. This happened after Matt Brash
who has struggled in some games gave up
a run on three hits. One of the hits was a dinner
into the outfield.  We hope Matt  finds a way
to be more consistent.

The Mariners  have the final  game  of the series
Thursday night against  Oakland. See if  the Mariners
can sweep  the A's. Logan Gilbert starts so they
certainly  have a shot at it. With a win the Mariners
will be two games above .500. A good sign heading
into the three game series against  Pittsburgh Pirates.

Narrow Win For Mariners

The last few years the Mariners  have
won a lot of our run games however
this season  hasn't been  quite the
same. The Mariners  did win Tuesday
night 3-2.

The Mariners  had to come from behind
to beat Oakland. Marco Gonzales got off
to hard start giving up the two runs in the
first inning. Made us think oh now, however,
he was able to  get things back shutting
out the A's  over the next five innings then
let the bullpen  do their job. In fact Gott,
Topa and Sewald didn't  give up a hit,
a walk and struckout  five in three innings.

The Mariners  offense happened  in the
5th inning where Tom Murphy had a double
followed  by JP Crawford two-run homer to
tie the game. Ty France followed  by  hitting
a home run to and that was it.

The Mariners  are now 24-24. See if they
can get over .500 and stay there. The
Mariners are in fourth place two behind
the Angels. The Rangers are six games
ahead.  We hope the Mariners  can do
well in the rest of the ten game homestand.

Dylan Moore  is now on rehab assignment
with Tacoma Rainiers after beginning with
Everett.  The Rainiers are at home as well.
Moore could be added to the roster before
the Mariners go on the road to Texas.
Go M's.

Luis Castillo Returns To Form

Luis Castillo pitched very well Monday
night against the Oakland A's. Castillo
who had trouble in his previous five
outings had his fastball back up into
the high 90s.  He went six shutout
innings walking two, striking out eight
and giving up four hits. Welcome back
Luis. We hope to see that over the next
month or so. Certainly will help get the
Mariners back into the race.

The Mariners offense had a good night
against the A's poor pitching. It started
off in good fashion with Kelenic hitting
a two run homer in the first inning with
Julio on base. In fact Julio had three
hits and look like his old self. We hope
this keeps the offense going. In the
second inning the Mariners added on
with Jose Caballero hitting a long
three-run homer.

The Mariners offense was able to add
six more runs in.the game including
three in the eighth. Oakland scored
their only two runs in the top of the
eighth. The Mariners offense we hope
still rolls during the rest of the Oakland
series through Thursday. Marco Gonzales
goes Tuesday night. We hope he does
better then in his last outing.

The Mariners take on the Pittsburgh Pirates
this coming weekend. The Pirates are having a good season however we hope
the Mariners can keep going. The Mariners
end the ten game homestand against the
Yankees. Should see large crowds against
them.

The next road trip will be three against
the Texas Rangers, two against the San
Diego Padres and three against LA Angels.
Go M's.

Mariners Come Home

The Seattle Mariners  showed some
good signs on the latest road trip.
The offense did well  at times though
they still look to be in a slump.

The nine  game road trip they went
went 4-5. The pitching was the primary
reason they did that well and could
have won one or two additional games.
Luis Castillo and Marco Gonzales both
pitched terrible  while Gilbert, Kirby and
Miller  could have won each of their
outings. Even with Castillo and Marco
not pitching well the Mariners should
win three out of five games on a regular
basis.

The hitters outside of Crawford, Casaballero,
Suarez, Raleigh and Hernandez need to
step up. Julio doesn't  have to be hitting
like he did last year but if he added 40
points to his average the Mariners would
be plus side in victories.

The Mariners  will be home for ten games.
They need to win 7 out of the 10. The first
four games  are against Oakland so playing
average  baseball would  allow  them to do
so.

The all-star game  is  in Seattle  this July.
At this point the Mariners don't have  many
candidates to be in it which would be a let
down as well. The  pitching we could see
Gilbert and Kirby. Position player Ty France
but that is about it. If Julio can finish May
and have a great June he will be there.

The Oakland series will  show whether any
improvement or not. The Astros have won
ten of their last eleven games. The Mariners
won fourteen in a row. With the pitching either
one is possible. Go M's!

Mariners Even Series In Atlanta

The Seattle Mariners Saturday night
in Atlanta besting the Braves seven
to three. It was small sample size but
the Mariners scored three runs in
the fourth inning to take over the
lead and two more runs in the fifth.

What made those two innings so
special is something they did what
they haven't for most of the season
in situational hitting.  Teoscar
Hernandez hit a ball into right field
driving in a run. Eugenio Suarez
had a sacrifice fly and so did Jose
Cabarrello. Mariners haven't had
an inning too often where they had
two sacrifice flies. Gives us hope.

In the seventh inning the Mariners
looked like they were going to have
another situational hitting with Kelenic
starting off with a single however
Eugenio hit a two run homer instead.
Eugenio has been having a bad May
so this is a good sign that he could
be out of his slump. If so the Mariners
could ride on his back for several games.
Julio Rodriguez didn't get a hit however
a good sign he walked three times. Didn't
give into the Braves pitching.

The Braves got  two runs in the
first inning with Matt Olson hitting
with runner on base and no outs
to start off the game. Logan Gilbert
made some adjustments and had
fifteen appearances from the Braves
without giving up a hit. Logan went
six innings to record the victory. The
Braves got their third run in the 8th.
Paul Sewald who has been missing
in action over most of the last several
games pitched the ninth though not
a save situation. He struck out a batter,
gave up a single and ended with a
double play.

George Kirby goes Sunday so a good
chance the Mariners can win the game
especially if they can get to the Braves
starter early. The Braves used six of
their relievers Saturday.

The Mariners do start a new series
Monday at home without a day off
and having to fly across country
after the game. At least they gain
three hours and they face Oakland.
Go.M's

Mariners Take It In the chin

Bryce Miller pitched well for
most of his time against the
Braves in Atlanta. Bryce gave
up a run in the first then two
more in the seventh before
leaving the game. Unlike most
of the season the bullpen
surrendered three more runs.
Final Braves 6-2

The offense still continues to
struggle not having any runs
until the top of the seventh.
The Mariners actually led at
that point until Braves scored
two in the bottom of the 7th.

Eugenio Suarez and Teoscar
Hernandez drove in the two
runs. Maybe they both getting
started to hit. Speaking of
hitting Taylor Trammell continues
to struggle at the plate. His average
is now at .128. The question is
how much longer do the Mariners
go with Taylor against righties.
Do they bring up someone from
Tacoma. The Mariners still not
getting any offense at dh. How
long they go with AJ Pollock as
well.  The trouble is they are
still having trouble hitting in the
middle of the lineup as well. Does
that effect the bottom to.

The Mariners offense hit well in
the first game in Boston but the
well went dry after that which is
what I was afraid of. Mariners
to succeed in the remaining of
this series the offense needs to
hit and score runs early.  Tough
though when most of the lineup
has been in a slump. Need one
or two hitters to start producing.
Go M's.

Seattle Seahawks Thursday

The Mariners have Thursday off so
figure do a little Seahawks action.

Right now the Seahawks are in the Ota's.
Off season camp. By the way they don't put on all football gear. The rookies had their
first ota last week as a group. Right now
they have a 90 man roster. Not sure why so big since about a third will not be on the opening day roster.

Jamal Adams and Jordyn Brooks are not
there. They are still rehabbing from injuries
in Texas. I suppose feeling part of the team
is not a big deal either. Coach Pete Carroll
and general manager John Schneider are
not sure yet whether either will be available
when the season starts.

Having Bobby Wagner back in the fold
helps for sure. First overall number one
pick Devon Witherspoon should start at
one of the cornerback spots. Jaxon Smith-Nigba should be the third wide receiver with DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett at the one and two.

First number two pick Derrick Hall should compete if not start at outside linebacker.
Running back Zach Charbonnet should be
number two in the depth chart.

4th round picks guard Anthony Bradford
and defensive tackle Cameron Young
may get in playing time. The same goes
for 5th rounders defensive end Mike Morris
and center Olusegun Oluwatimi. With the
center position going to have new starter
he could get the nod.

Sixth round pick safety Jerrick Reed HSS been impressive so could get in some
playing time if Adams doesn't start the
season. 7th rounder running back Kenny
McIntosh is hard to know whether he will
be on the team or not. The Seahawks
could have on the practice squad to begin
the season. A lot may depend on how he
does on special teams.

Next time on.Seahawks we will start with
the groupings of each position. Go Hawks!

Marco and Mariners Lose Big Time

The Mariners who had a good chance
to take series against the Red Sox
were beaten badly 12-2.

Marco only lasted 1 and 2/3 innings
gave up eight runs on eight hits
and two walks. Gabe Speier who had
very well gave up three runs. Chris
Flexen went the final three innings
giving up one hit. He now saves the
bullpen when facing Atlantic Braves.

The Mariners now under 500 once
again. The Braves are a good ball
club so won't be easy.

Luis Castillo Doesn't Fair Well

Luis Castillo for the fourth time in
a row lost for the Mariners 9-4.
Castillo history he goes through
a bad spell and then turns things
around.

Luis gave up four runs in the first
with two home runs. After that he
seemed to turn things around. The
Mariners tied the game in the 4th
inning with Teoscar Hernandez hitting
a triple scoring driving in two runs
and Taylor Trammell hitting  a two
run homer.

The Mariners were now back in the
game however Castillo gave up three
runs in the fifth inning. My opinion
getting back into the game why leave
Castillo in against a good hitting ball
club. I know some disagree with me.
This was the middle game of the series
and I hope the Mariners find a way to
win on Wednesday. Had this been the
third game of the series and Mariners
had won the first two games I might
have felt different. Why give the game
away in my opinion. The Mariners offense
didn't score again however anything
still could have happened.

Now it is over and we can't do anything
about it. Marco Gonzales goes Wednesday
night. Although he has pitched well at
times Marco will have to pitch really good
against the Red Sox to win. The Mariners
have Thursday off and go to Atlanta to
face the Braves another good hitting
ball club.

Looking at the 9th and 10th M's prospects.

#9 is Taylor Dollars. Last year he was
the best minor league pitcher in the
Mariners organization. Now pitching
at Tacoma in the good hitting Pacific
Coast League Taylor is not having as
good season so far. Hopefully doesn't
stall his progress. Taylor has only
started in three games with 0-2 record
and a 7.56 era in eight innings. He
actually went on the injured list at the
end of April. Hopefully he wil# l be back
soon.

#10 third baseman Tyler Locklear, drafted
in the second round last year. In his second
professional season Tyler is batting .320
33 games. He has 11 doubles and 7 home
runs in 33 games at Everett. We could see
him at double A Arkansas before the year
is out. Right now looks like the Mariners
next third baseman.

Thursday it will be the Seahawks. We will
see how they look and additional news
on.any player signing.

Later Wednesday see how the Mariners do.

Mariners Win Big Time Kraken Season Over

The Mariners had a big night
at Fenway Park. It didn't start
until the 5th inning. Cal Raleigh
was the offensive player of the
game. Cal had a home run in
the 5th inning putting the Mariners
up 2-0. In the 6th inning had another
homer. Both were two run homers.
Raleigh became the first catcher
to hit two home runs in the same
game from both sides in the 112 year
history of Fenway Park.. His first home
run was left handed and the second
right handed. The second homer went
over the green moster. He had another
hit and scored third run. We hope this
beginning of Raleigh  going on an offensive
explosion.  Eugenio Suarez who.has
been struggling hit a home run in the
8th inning. Final 10-1.

George Kirby went six and two-thirds
innings. He gave up one run in the sixth
inning. Kirby gave up eight hits, one walk
and six strike outs. Bullpen gave up only
one hit. Luis Castillo starts on Tuesday
We hope the offense will continue going
instead of going stagnant.

Kraken season ended Monday night
losing the seventh game 2-1 at Dallas.
We should be proud of the Kraken
make it a close game. We look toward
next season and see if the Kraken can
go further.

Mariners Unable Sweep

The Seattle Mariners lost 5-3

Logan Gilbert went five and two-thirds
innings. Not as good as his last start
however gave the Mariners a chance
to win.

The Tigers scored a run in the first. The
Mariners got all three runs in the third.
Unable to add on after that. Gilbert gave up
three runs however the bullpen faltered
which they haven't done often.

Jarred Kelenic had a rare day off with
Sam Haggerty in left field. AJ Pollock
was at dh once again. He is struggling
at the plate however did have one hit.
Kelenic pinch hit for him.later in the game.
Tom Murphy started at catcher and Cal
Raleigh pinch hit later and had a double.
Julio and Teoscar each had a hit and
drove in a run. Hopefully a good sign.

The Mariners now go to Boston.George
Kirby starts the series Monday. It.will
be nice if the Mariners can take at least
two games in that series to.

Looking at top prospects pitcher Bryan
Woo at number six is off to a good start
at Arkansas. Only second season in
professional ball. In six games started
he has gone 28 innings. The organization
taking it easy with him. Woo has only
six walks and 39 strikeouts. The opposition
batting only .141. We will see in June how
he is progressing.

At number seven is outfielder Gabriel
Gonzalez. Only 19 however batting .298.
Only one home run at low level A but
still young. Could see him in Everett
at some point in the season.

At eight is right hander pitcher Walter Ford.
He is at rookie ball in Arizona. Draft in
round B last year. Only 18 and no stats
as of yet. Let you know what we hear
down the road.

Next time up we will look at nine
and ten.

Kraken Not Going Home Yet

The Seattle  Kraken  beat the Dallas  Stars
at home Saturday  night  6-3. Now  comes
down to game seven in Dallas.

The Kraken  has been a good road team
all year long. This doesn't  guarantee a
win but certainly  helps. They beat the
Avalanche in game seven in the first
round so why not again.

Whatever happens in game seven will
be good.  Even if the Kraken lose it has
been a good ride and helps toward next
season. So exciting  to  have a hockey
team only in it's second season  flourishing.
The city and the region is rooting you on.
Go Kraken!

Bryce Miller and Mariners Shutout Tigers

While people  in Western  Washington  are
enjoying  great weather  the Mariners  were
able to  shutout the Detroit Tigers before
the afternoon  in Seattle.

Bryce  Miller  is  pitching amazing right now.
His first three starts Bryce has given up just
one run in 19 innings for era of .47.

The question  will the Mariners  have  room
for another starter  to  come up to the big
club.

We have Miller,  Gilbert and Kirby without
mentioning Luis Castillo. They have Marco
as well. The Mariners now are over the .500
mark with the offense to start something.
The Mariners  now have two wins and could
sweep the Tigers.

Jarred Kelenic  and Teoscar Hernandez  drove
in four of the Mariners five runs. Julio  had no
hits on the day. He could be a big factor  again
tomorrow  we will see. The importance is one
or two guys could do the  job on the day. We
will see Sunday.

Logan Gilbert  goes Sunday. Paul  Sewald  hasn't
pitched in this series  as of yet. Logan goes at
least six innings  we may see Sewald along with
Matt Brash  as two of the  guys. Monday George
Kirby  should go against the Boston  Red Sox. The
Mariners  will start the rotation  over again. The
Mariners will have next Thursday off. Kirby will
have another day off on the road along with Logan.
A grea5 sign when both guys have an extra day off.
Go M's

Seahawks Schedule 2023

A few days ago NFL  schedule came
out. Looking at the schedule I  figure
the Seattle Seahawks  will go 9-8.
They could squeak in another victory.

The Seahawks  have a tough schedule
on the road. First road game is at
Detroit  in game two. They should win
that game. They play New York Giants
and Cincinnati Bengals back to back.
The Giants is the first national  game
Of the season.  They play two Thursday
night games as well. Outside the Lions
the Seahawks  could lose all their road
games except maybe the Rams and
Arizona  Cardinals.  The Dallas Cowboys
is on the road too. They beat the Cowboys
then could see ten wins.  The Seahawks
defense looks like it has improved in the
college draft so might add another victory
in there somewhere.

The Seahawks  play SF 49ers on Thanksgiving
then again in two weeks.  I gave the Seahawks
a split in the series.  We will see whether I am
being generous or not. As they say why the games
are played. The home schedule is easier with
the game in December against the Philadelphia
Eagles could  be  the only loss. Two weeks later
to end the year they take on the Pittsburgh Steelers.
I  gave the win to the Seahawks on that one.

Whatever way things come down 2023 should be
an interesting season. Next time up we will look
at the Seahawks draft picks. Who could be starters
are where the Seahawks  could use more help at.
Go Hawks!

Mariners Offense Comes Alive

The Seattle  Mariners  offense came alive
early  on  in  the game allowing Marco
Gonzales  to pitch to his strength moving
the ball around.

A really  good  way to get the new road trip
started for sure. Julio  Rodriguez  who was
moved down to sixth in the  order on the
last ho e game in the lossto the Texas Rangers
was moved to the third spot. Julio  who now
is looking  better had three hits on the day and
driving in four runs including  a home run.
We could  see Julio  at the third spot for a while
as long as JP Crawford does the job in the lead
off spot. The importance is Crawford to get on
base early  in the game with a hit or walk.

The Mariners  scored one in the first inning and
then five more in the second on starter Matt Boyd
long time Tiger, Seattle  native who played  for the
Mariners  last year. Boyd only lasted an inning
and a third. Not only giving up five runs Boyd
walked four Mariners. AJ Pollock  who didn't get
a hit on the day did walk including taking nine
pitches. The Tigers had to use five relievers in
the game which should  give the Mariners an
advantage in the series.  All Mariners  hitters
had at least  one hit except Pollock. Kelenic
who had been in the third  spot recently  was
moved to  cleanup.

Final Mariners  9 Tigers 2

Marco went six innings  giving up the two runs
in the fifth inning on a homer. Marco now is 3-0
though his era is  over  4. I  would take it as long
as he is able to  go  at least five and the Mariners
win more times than not when he is on the mound.

Julio might be  over his struggles at the plate. We have
to see on this road trip.  Usually  how Julio goes so
does the offense.  Cal Raleigh who  hasn't  been too
well either had the  night  off. Tom Murphy has been
hitting  better lately.  We should see him behind the
plate against many lefties depending  how many they
face in a series.  The Mariners  have a day game Saturday
so should see Raleigh  behind the plate. The same should
go for Sunday as well.

Bryce Miller  will start Saturday's  game. Miller pitches
anything like he has so far the Mariners should win
as long as they score a few runs. Right now the bullpen
should  be  in good shape  too. The Mariners  now 19-19.
Be nice to see them get over the  .500 mark.  Facing a
righty we should see Taylor Trammell in the game  either
at dh or in the outfield.  Go M's.

Look On The Farm

As the Mariners get ready to take on the
Tigers in Detroit to begin their nine game
road trip decided to look at the Tacoma
Rainiers.

The Rainiers are 17-19. They are doing
well at home 10-4, so you can see the
road not so much. Right now at home
against Reno.

Mike Ford who the Mariners required a
second time last year is leading the Rainiers
in average at .314 and second
in home runs with nine. He is at dh and
first base. He is one of those good triple A
players who haven't been able to hit in
the majors yet.

Jake Scheiner leads the team with 11
home runs. Had a good spring training
with the Mariners. Third base is his
position however he has been playing
left field. A solid .280 batting average.

Catcher Brian O'Keeffe is having a
solid season as well with eight home
runs and .265 average. These are the
three main hitters who are having good
seasons.

Veteran Tommy Milone who made a
start in place of Marco Gonzales has
made four starts with a solid 2.57 era.
Rest of the starting pitching not much
to talk or write about.

Matt Festa who began the season in
Seattle is having a solid season as
the closer. Matt has appeared in ten
games with an era of 0.69. Has five
saves in as many opportunities.

Riley O'Brien is having a solid season
to appearing in eleven games with
an era of 1.26. Mostly in relief though
did start three games.

The Mariners are solid in the bullpen
however need any assistance Festa
and O'Brien are good choices. Diego
Castillo has appeared in three games
since being sent down. I am sure he
might be the first to be called up if
needed depending on how he is doing.

The NFL next seasons schedule has
come out. To be honest I haven't looked
at it except I do know the Seahawks play
the SF 49ers on Thanksgiving.

The Seahawks had a good solid draft
in April. May have at least three starters
out of that group. Though the Seahawks
drafted two running backs they signed
a running back as well. Seahawks being
a running team at least half of the time
a good choice to have plenty of depth.

The Kraken are now 2-2 and play Dallas
on the road in next game. Exciting to
watch our first playoff run.

Until next time thanks for checking in.

Mariners Needed Day Off

The Seattle  Mariners  have Thursday  off
before starting  a  nine game  road trip
beginning in Detroit then Boston and
Atlanta.  We hope the Mariners  bats come
alive.

The top and middle of  the  lineup has been
struggling in May so far. Such a problem
Julio Rodriguez was moved to  the sixth
spot on Wednesday.  How long he is there
is anyone's guess. Currently  JP Crawford
is hitting  well so he is leading off. He
really isn't the answer for the long term.
JP  can get off track easy  though usually
hits well  in the first half of the season.
Wednesday  he walked in his first appearance
where he ended up scoring  a  run. Later he
hit a double as well.  The Mariners hitters
need to walk a bit more often.

We are now going to  look at  the  Mariners
top prospects.  Harry Ford who made his presence
shown in the spring and the World Baseball Classic
for Britain is having a good start. He is hitting  .293
for high A Everett with  three home runs. Harry
is walking and striking  out  about once a game.
For a twenty  year old who we will see probably in
2025 it is good. The weather  heating up his bat
might to as well.  Have to figure  Ford is working
on his catching  defense too.

Bryce Miller  the Mariners  number  two prospect
is already  on the scene and looks like he is
going be there along time  with  Logan Gilbert and
George Kirby.  Not sure who will be the best of the
three which doesn't  matter since all three look
to be good  for a  long time.

Cole Young the Mariners third prospect and top
draft pick last year is batting .292 at low A Modesto.
At 19 years old he hasn't hit a home run  yet but
does have eight doubles and four triples. He is
walking and striking out under one per game. Not
projected to  be  on the Mariners  until  2026. Most
likely JP Crawford will be the shortstop until then.
The Mariners do have other shortstop prospects
to however they could be at another position as well
when making the  leap to the majors.

Number four prospect  is pitcher Emerson Hancock.
He is the Mariners  top  pick in 2020 has only thrown
22 innings in six starts. Also has an era over five. He
has struck out more batters than innings pitched
at double-A Arkansas. Most likely he may make an
appearance in the second half of 2023 depending on
his health and that of the Mariners starters. With
Bryce Miller getting  off well  no hurry  to rush Emerson.
It is hard to  know whether  he will be  in the Mariners
plans long term. Doesn't mean  he won't be a good
pitcher but he could be dealt elsewhere along with
someone else to  strengthen  another position.

Number  five prospect  is an international player
the Mariners  signed during  the off-season. Might
be the biggest  signing since Julio Rodriguez or
maybe bigger. Felnin Celesten a shortstop and might
be the top one in international signing in a decade
at shortstop. Either he or Young could be at short and
the other at second or third or outfield for that matter.
Felnin is currently  playing in the Dominican summer
league at the age of 17. Got to figure several years
away until  Seattle but you never know Ken Griffey Jr
made his arrival at 19.

Next Mariners off day  we will  look at number six
through ten.

As of now  no roster moves made for the Mariners
heading  onto the nine game road trip. We do know
Andre Munoz  is not on the roster as of yet. He could
be out for another  month. Fortunately the Mariners
bullpen  is doing well  for the most part.  Go M's.

Rangers Take Series

The Texas Rangers showed they
have a pretty good  offense. Right
now the Mariners  could use some
of it.

The Mariners  have superior  pitching
however for the most part the offense
is in a slump. Julio was willing to  slide
down to the sixth spot to help the team.

The Rangers beat the Mariners  4-3.
Luis Castillo  had one bad inning
giving up three runs  in third. He
went five innings  giving  up eight
hits while striking out nine. Had no
walks.

I  know the Mariners should snap
out of it but hope  it will be soon.
Right now Teoscar Hernandez
and AJ Pollock are struggling
mightily at the plate. Kelenic
had a couple  hits and almost
was hurt in the game.

So far no one has been dh very
well at the plate. My opinion
whether Pollock or Taylor Trammell
should be dh for three straight games
no matter facing a righty  or lefty.
Platooning isn't  working  that well.
I would like someone  who will get
between nine and twelve  at bats
at dh before  handing off to someone
else.

Marco Gonzales  followed  by Bryce
Miller and Logan Gilbert look like they
should  win  the series in Detroit. This is
why the games  are played you never know.

7 MI 8

It would be nice to  move the lineup
a little  bit  more but since Crawford,
France and Kelenic are doing well
and now at the top of the lineup there
is not much else to  do  except see
can start hitting.  They could  have Eugenio
bat fifth and Raleigh go to fourth but
might not do a whole  lot of good or
difference anyway.

Eugenio  who had a good  start at
of the season is hitting. 152 for May
and has one home run. Cal Raleigh
who hasn't  hit that well on the season
had five home runs in April is hitting
.148 and has no home runs or driven
in any runs in  May. Julio had five of
his six home runs in April is batting
.092 and has two rbi's. Tells us
nothing with the guys supposed to
drive in the run
Teoscar  Hernandez  who started off
bad then improved had seven home runs
in May is hitting .232 but has no home runs
in May and driven in three runs. I  rest my
case about the offense.000000 will help the guys. Marco7
Gonzales  starts on Friday  followed by
Bryce Miller and Logan  Gilbert.  The
second series  beginning on the Monday
with George Kirby. They play in Atlanta for
three  before  coming home. Hopefully a
good  win streak before coming  home.
Go M's.

Good Pitching No Offense

Mariners continue to waste great
pitching while offense still struggles.

Ty France hit a home run in the
first inning but offense disappeared
after that. The Mariners had only
four hits and two were by rookie
Jose Cabarello.

I don't know about you but Mariners
hitters are pressing or trying to hit
home runs. They need to change
things.

Logan Gilbert was pitching perfect game
into the seventh inning then gave up
two runs. In fact Logan tied a team record
striking seven straight hitters.

Final Rangers 2 Mariners 1

Not much more to say but must stop
slumping.  There has to be a way
to manufacture.  George Kirby goes
Tuesday night. Let's figure  it out.

Mariners Win Series

Bryce Miller had another outstanding
game in his second Mariners start.
He left after six innings shutting out
his favorite team growing up in Texas.

Bryce only gave up two hits, walk and
struck out five. I will take that each time
out a quality start for six innings. Maybe
seven innings every once in a while.

The  Mariners scored two runs in the
third including a solo home run by
Julio. His only hit of the game however
we hope his slump is over. Dont try to
hard and get back to what made you
rookie of the year.

Ty France, Eugenio Suarez and JP Crawford
each had two hits. Looks like is out of
his slump for now. Crawford was seventh
in the order.

Gabe Speier who has pitched well on
the season gave up Astros only run
in the seventh. Matt Brash bailed out
Gabe. Getting final two outs.

Justin Topa had his first save for
the Mariners. He did give up one
hit but things were fine.

Final M's 3 Astros 1

Mariners open series on Monday
against the Ranger in Seattle.
Logan Gilbert starts.

Penny Hart wide receiver signed a contract
with the Atlanta Falcons. The Seahawks drafted Ohio State receiver in the first
round so Hart saw the writing on the
wall. Have to fight for number four.

Sign looks good as the Kraken are
leading the Dallas Stars 6-1 in the
third period. The Kraken scored five
goals in the second period and the
Stars one in the second as well.

Mariners Win On Big 8th

The Seattle Mariners had a big inning
on Saturday night in the 8th scoring
seven runs with two outs to take over
a lead the Astros had at 3-0.

Jose Caballero had the big hit driving
in two runs to get things going. Jose
hadn't played in the game until Kolten
Wong was hurt on a play hit to him in
the field. Since Wong has been hitting
well as late hopefully he won't be out
long. Hate to see him go on the injured
list. If do well it be Cesar Hernandez
who is playing for Tacoma take his
spot well see.

Marco Gonzales pitch well in the first
three innings but the Astros were able
to score two runs in the fourth inning
after loading the bases. Unlike the Mariners had a chance against rookie starter JP France in the first inning with based loaded and let him off the hook.

Marco left after the sixth inning while
giving up another run in the fifth inning.
Rookie Juan Then made his debut in
the Seventh inning getting all three
batters he faced. Another key to wait
for the offense to come through.

My advice the Mariners need to find
to manufacture runs instead of waiting
for a big inning. They were lucky in
this one.

Paul Sewald came in and gave up
two runs in the 9th. The key was he
did make some good pitches when
it counted.

So hopefully this gets the offense going
without manufacturing runs they
will need to look at a couple medium
big innings a couple times a game.

Tomorrow afternoon Bryce Miller will
make his second start on the season. It
will be nice if this start be close to
his first start against Oakland. Be nice
to take two out of three from the
Astros with the Texas Rangers come
next into town.  We should see Logan
Gilbert, George Kirby and Luis Castillo
in that series.

The Kraken are home against the
Dallas Stars in game three with an
even record of 1-1.

Sloppy Play and Bad Call By Umpire

The Seattle Mariners lost to the
Houston Astros in the beginning
of their six game home stand
6-4.

Luis Castillo who has six wins at
home already on the season went
seven innings giving up four runs.
He gave up a three-run. homer to
Yordan Alvarez in the third in  the
third inning and another run in the
fourth. Despite that he had 96 pitches
in the seven innings.

Kolten who had been struggling at
the plate has found his stroke now
hit a double in the fifth inning driving
the three guys on base. The score
stayed that way until the eight inning
when Ty France, Jarred Kelenic and
Eugenio Suarez hit three singles in a
row to tie the game at 4-4.

At the top of the ninth Kyle Tucker hit
a two run homer off Matt Brash. Manager
Scott Servais came out and argued with
the home plate because he thought the
count before the home run should have
been a strike out. Of course Servais was
tossed from the game.

The bottom of the 9th was sloppy running
Teoscar Hernandez hit a ball and looked
like was going for a double right off the
gate but he hesitated between first and
second base then went to second base
bag. He was called safe by the umpire
but was called out on appeal by the Astros.
I thought he would be called safe because it was close but those in New York didn't
see it my way or the Mariners. I read later
on social media many Mariners fans feel
Hernandez should not play in Saturdays
game for a bad running. One thought he
shouldn't play for a week. I am on the side
of the one game or two, seven seems a bit
exstreem.

JP Crawford came up next and hit a single
which meant the Mariners would have two
run base with no outs and had a good chance to score at least one run or tie or
win. They would have score two tie if
the next batter hit a home run. Taylor Trammell hit a ball to first base for an out.
JP Crawford ended up in a round down
between first and second and had no
chance that was the ball game.

On the Mariner website mentioned six prospects  who could make their debut
in 2023 besides Byrce Miller who has
made a magnificent debut and make
his start on Sunday after Marco starts
Saturday night. Emerson Handock is the
next one on the dock it. I see him taking
Marco's spot if he flounders however
that makes five righthanders in the
rotation with Robbie Ray out for the season. Ray had Tommy John surgery
so he may not return until next May
or June.

Three other right handed starters who
could make their debut but I would
say likely until after the all-star game
or later is  Bryan Woo who was a six
round pick in 2021 doesn't have a lot
of innings throwing in the minors but
could be called if necessary. Most likely
he and Prelander Berroa who had a good
spring training won't make their debuts
until 2024 unless the Mariners need them.
They are both pitching at double A Arkansas as is Hancock.

The fourth pitcher is Taylor Dollard who
is at Tacoma. He hasn't got off to good
start but he had the best of the four
prospects  at double A last season.
He might be called up as a spot starter
if the Mariners need one. He can throw
a lot of innings too. Say Chris Flexen gets
traded I would say he might be a good
place to put in his spot as a long reliever.

The next two players are both outfielders
and each hit left handed. Cade Marlowe
would be the next one up. He started the
season on the injured list. Since being able
to play he has nine extra base hits of his
total 19 hits. The second in line is Zach
DeLoach who is playing in Tacoma as
well. His high seiling would be the fourth
outfielder which means likely means spending time at dh as well. It might be
some time this season before season
before seeing either one since they
are both lefthanded hitters and as long
as Taylor Trammell stays healthy and
doing well don't see any room out there.
If either one was a right handed hitter
be another story as AJ Pollock has
been struggling at the plate though
he has hit a couple home runs in
crucial times. We hope his bat starts
to come alive. Most likely be at dh
against lefties most of the time.

Well see how the Mariners do Saturday
night as Marco goes on the hill. Go M's.

Mariners Sweep A's

I missed Thursday I had teeth surgery
and was out of it Wednday night and
recovering Thursday. I was able to see
some Wednesday nights' and Thursday
afternoon game.

Again the Mariners pitching was fantastic
in the both games both took the offense
to get going late in games.

Wednesday game Logan Gilbert pitched
well going six innings. He gave up two
runs both in the sixth inning. The trouble
was the Mariners had no runs yet. They
did get one in the 7th and AJ Pollock
tied with a solo home run to tie.

The Mariners had two runs batted in by
JP Crawford in the 10th and Eugenio Suarez put icing on the cake by hitting
a three run homer. Final 7-2.

Thursday was a day game to end the
series. George Kirby started out slow
giving up a run in the second and another
in the third. Taylor Trammel had a two run
homer in the third inning to take a lead
before Oakland tied in the bottom of the
inning.

The Mariners had three more runs in the
fourth inning and thst was it for the game.
Trammel drove in another run and Kolten
Wong drove in two. He is coming out of
his slump. Speaking of slump both Julio
and Ty France are still in theirs. For the
Mariners have success against Houston
and Texas in their home stand coming
up the Mariners so both need start hitting.

There is talk about about changing divisions in baseball. Will be the next
big thing though umpires might call
strikes and balls a computer or whatever
they call could overturn them.

When baseball does go to new divisions
the Mariners will still have A's but Houston
and Texas won't be along with the Angels.
Colorado and San Francisco likely be in
a four division.  It probably be named the
Pacific division. I expect the earliest it
happen will be 2025 though changed do
happen fast since playing every team in
baseball happened quickly. We will stay
play the Astros and Rangers but see them
in Seattle every other year for a series.
This will allow the Mariners hopefully not
have as much travel but still a lot anyway.
Go M's.

Kraken Win Mariners Win

The Seattle  Kraken feels like the Mariners
of last year but didn't  have to wait as long
to get into the playoffs  and have success.

The first period  was wild as the Kraken
scored for goals while Dallas  Stars had
two. Neither team scored in the second
period.

The third period  the Stars scored twice
to even the game  at four and heading into
overtime. Didn't  look good  for the Kraken
since the Stars had the momentum. The
Kraken  fortunately  scored in overtime
to win.

Game 2 will be on Thursday night in Dallas.
It would  be  nice  if  the Kraken can win
an come home for Sunday's  game with
2-0 lead however it still be great either way.

The Seattle  Mariners  saw the debut of
Bryce Miller  which was fantastic.  Bryce
was pitching  a perfect game  into the
sixth inning. The trouble the A's Miller
was pitching a no-hitter as well though
had some walks.

Bryce gave up two hits  and a run in the
sixth inning. He made history  being the
third pitcher in their debut to pitch a perfect
so long and striking out ten batters. In fact
he struck out five of the first six batters in
the first two innings and didn't walk a batter
in six innings.

The Mariners  finally  scored two runs in
the 8th inning. AJ Pollock hit a home run
to tie and later Kelenic drove in the winning
run.

Logan Gilbert  starts Wednesday  night  followed
by George  Kirby  on  Thursday  afternoon. Go M's.

Kraken Start Second Round Mariners New Series

Tuesday  the Kraken  begin second playoff
round at Dallas. Starting  on the road sounds
like a good  deal.

The Kraken  had success winning at Denver
and now we see whether  the formula will
continue.

The Mariners start the last series  on this
road trip against the Oakland  A's. They
are currently  2-4. They won the first and
last currently  going on.

Bryce Miller  the Mariners  top pitching
prospect is expected to make his major
league debut  on Tuesday. The Mariners
are hoping he has the same success as
Logan Gilbert and George Kirby.

The Mariners  outrighted Diego Castillo
to Tacoma  after passing  through waivers.
The Mariners  can add Miller to  the 40-man
roster however they will need to make room
on the 26 man roster. They have to  send a
player down or put someone on the injured
list or release someone. We will  find out
before the game.

Now with  Taylor Trammel on the roster the
Mariners have five outfielders. Julio should
be available  Tuesday. This means one of the
outfielders should  be  able to dh most every
game. I  could see the Mariners releasing Tommy
La Stella since they have two other utility players.
It is a hard choice  since non of the bench players
have hit well  yet. Stay  tuned.

They Did It Kraken Win

It is nice to know the Kraken are
a good road team. Helped them
to move onto the second round.
Again they will play more road
games.

The score was 2-1. It must have
been nerve wraking. At least for
the fans anyway. Like the Seahawks
and Mariners they like to play close
games. OK once could they give a
bigger margin. Go Kraken
