Looking Back and Forward

 Happy New Year's Sports Fans!

The Seattle Mariners was the best
team in Seattle Sports this year.
We have a lot to look forward to
in 2022 as long as the lock out
doesn't last too long.

It is nice to have a nice core of
players for the future. Hope to
add a couple players to the
roster.

The Seahawks and Huskies football
definite downer for sure. We hope
for a good rebuild for the Seahawks
and improvement of the Huskies
with a new coach and staff.

The Cougars had a good season
despite losing their head coach
over covid. Next season should
be a good one.

Hope to see improvement in the
Huskies men's basketball along
with the Cougars. The Gonzaga
Bulldogs go all the way.

Kyle Seager Retires

Ot much news going on in baseball
these days, however,  Kyle Seager
announced his retirement on his
wife Julie's twitter account.

The announcement came as bit
of a surprise to me  though he
may have felt  the right time.

May have not gotten a lot of
interest from other teams.
I am  sure a lot of fans thought
he may play with his brother
Corey in Texas.

Seager  now ends his career
playing for the Seattle Mariners
only. Just him and Edgar Martinez.
I am sure we will see him in
Seattle during the 2022 season
to honor him. We wish the best
for Kyle and his family in the
future. Thank you Kyle for being
a Mariner. We certainly enjoyed
seeing you play third base.

In other  local sports  the Washington
Huskies and Washington State
Cougars men's basketball game  was
postponed because of  covid.

Gonzaga now ranked #4 beat North
Alabama Tuesday night 93-63. They
take on Loyola Marymount  on New
Year's Day on the road.

Has been  a while but the Seattle Kraken
were back on the ice Wednesday night at
home losing to the Philadelphia Flyers
3-2 in overtime. The Kraken take on the
Calgary Flames Thursday night again at
home. The Kraken are 10-17-4.

Cougars Have New Opponent

The new covid has put a damper
on the winter sports news,came
out the Washington State Cougars
have a new opponent in the Sun
Bowl on New Year's Eve.

After the Miami Hurricanes bowed
out of the Sun Bowl because of
Covid they will take on Central
Michigan. Good news for Cougar
fans.

Other covid related news the
Washington Huskies  women's
basketball team's  games this
week are canceled.

Men's basketball the Huskies take
on the Cougars Wednesday night
in Pullman. We will  see how things
go in this game. The Cougars should
be favored in this one. The Huskies
have struggled shooting especially
In 3pt shots. They win the game it
will  likely come from their defense.

Seahawks Lose 25-24

The Seahawks were ahead for much
of the game however the Chicago Bears were able to come back to win
in the 4th quarter. They went for the two point conversion which the made.
Former Seahawks tight end Jimmy
Graham scored the touchdown to
get the Bears chance to win.

Rashaad Penny had another good
game running the ball going over
hundred yards.

Why the Seahawks lost only made three third downs out of ten. Also
the Bears had the ball just over 38 minutes.

The Seahawks now 5-10 with two
games to go. The off-season will see
changes for sure.

Seahawks and Bears

Today the  Seahawks are at home
taking on the Chicago Bears. It is
one of  those  rare years where
this game is meaningless as neither
team is going  to the playoffs.

For the  players they will play for next
year whether they will be a Seahawk,
or playing elsewhere or not at all.

Not sure about the  coaches,  I am sure
there will be some gone as well.  The
Seahawks will look to rebuild. The trouble
is they have no first round pick and limit
of picks. I am  sure  they will look at adding
more picks as well as adding free agents
whether  veterans or those out of  college.

I am sure there will be talk of  trading Russell
Wilson. Actually the media is already talking
about it. Rebuilding makes sense about a
trade at quarterback. On the other hand to
retool is a other story.  Certainly the off-season
will be  interesting.

Keep you up to date here and one man's
opinion.  Go Hawks!

Merry Christmas and Forward

We have the Christmas Day which I wish
you all the best. HO HO HO!

Look forward to 2022 and success in
sports here in the northwest.

Baseball get over the lockout quickly
and the Mariners get additional help
in starting pitching and offense. Wish
Kyle Seager the best wherever he lands.

The Seahawks have to rebuild. Most
positions need improvement. I am sure
some coaching changes will occur to
whether at head coach or not.

Washington Huskies football team
we hope Kalen DeBoer and his group
can succeed.

Washington State Cougars football
have a good season coming up too.

Washington Huskies basketball improve
with the start of Pac-12 action. Same
goes for the Cougars.

Gonzaga finally win a national championship.

The Kraken have a better rest of the season
than it has started out.

If I have forgotten something let me know!

The Kraken

You may wondering about the Kraken
this holiday season.

They have had several games cancelled
because of covid. The NHL has cancelled
all games until after Christmas. They
will resume action on December 27.

Having some time off might help the
Kraken the rest of the season. At least
we hope so anyway.

I hope you are having a good holiday
season otherwise. Merry Christmas!

Seahawks Loss Tuesday Night

The Seattle Seahawks lost to the
LA Rams Tuesday night 20-10. The game was close in the first half
when both teams kicked field
goals.

The Seahawks had chance to win before a couple crucial penalties
cost them the game.

The Seahawks are out of the playoffs.
The likelihood was remote they would
anyway. The Seahawks have a number
of weaknesses which is why they are
playing how they are.

Cooper Kupp was the difference in the game catching nine passes for two
touchdowns. Kupp is having a great
season for the Rams.

Rashard Penny got off to a good start going for some tough yardage getting 39 yards on 11 carries. DeeJay Dallas had eight carries for 41 yards. Penny stay healthy for the remaining of the season could bring him back.

Alex Collins will be back next week coming off the covid list. News came
out Wednesday tight end Will Dissly is going onto the covid list. Have to see
who goes on and who goes off though
doesn't really matter since the season
is over for the Seahawks. Too bad they
don't have a top draft pick which goes
to the New York Jets in the Jamaal
Adams trade. At least they will have
a high second rounder. We get back
to that after the season.

Russell Wilson didn't have a good
game completing 17 of 31 for 156
yards and an interception; no TD's.

The defense did a good job in the
first half against the run though
the Rams 123 yards total; more
than the Seahawks 80 yards. The
Rams though passed for 209 yards compared to Seahawks 159.

The Rams had the ball just over ten
more minutes than the Seahawks. I
am sure the penalties against Seattle
was the reason. Again the Seahawks
offense struggled making only 3 of
11 on third down while Rams were
6 of 12. The Seahawks will need to
improve in that area to have a chance.

The Seahawks will play the Chicago
Bears next Sunday at home. The Seahawks should have a good shot
to win that game with the 12s behind
them. Go Hawks!

Baseball Lockout

It is hard to  know right  now  how
Long the baseball ⚾️ lockout will
be. Hopefully  both sides will want
it over soon.

I  heard former Mariner and hall of
famer Edgar Martinez on local
sports radio on Monday the players,
the owners and fans all have lost so far.

I  know  there are  issues  to fix, however,
both sides  need to  compromise. Let's
get back to  hot stove league.

If the lockout isn't over until  spring
training than free agents likely won't
get as much money and trades will be
hard to come by. Let  it be as close
to being normal  can be.

Washington Huskies and More

Kalen DeBoer named the rest of his coaching
staff on Saturday evening after Fresno State
won the New Mexico Bowl beforehand.

Four coaches and strengthening position
were added to the staff.

William Inge and Chuck Morrell will work
together as co-defensive coordinators. Not
the first time happened at Washington before.

Inge will work with the linebackers as well.
Morrell with the safeties.

Eric Schmidt with be special teams coordinator
well as working with the defensive ends. The
final coach will be Lee Marks who will be
the running back coach. He was the interim
coach for Fresno playing in the New Mexico
Bowl.

The head strengthening coach will be Ron
McKeefery. He not only has experience with
DeBoer he has been strengthening coach
in the NFL and other colleges as well.

So now the Huskies coaching staff is complete.
Six of the eight coaches are all familiar with
DeBoer which will make it an easy transaction.

The Washington Huskies men's basketball team
beat Seattle University on Saturday night after
a three-week layoff with a number of players
and coaches with covid 64-56. The Huskies
got off to a rough start with the layoff being
behind 35-28 at half time. The Huskies defense
turned things around in the second half where
Seattle only scored 21 points.

The Huskies have one remaining non-league
game on Tuesday against Utah Valley. Next
week on Wednesday  will be against Washington
State. The rest of their schedule will start in
the new year all against the Pac-12 opponents.

The Cougars won their last game 82-56 on
Saturday as well. They scored 41 points in
each half over North Colorado. The Cougars
had five players score in double digits led
by DJ Rodman with 21 points. He led in
rebounds as well with 10.

The Cougars will take on Boise State at
home this Wednesday before taking on
the Huskies next Wednesday.

Gonzaga beat Texas Tech on Saturday
69-55. They take on Northern Arizona
Monday night at home. They follow up
with Northern Alabama next Tuesday
and finish the year against San Diego
on Thursday December 30.

We wish the best for all three teams.

Seahawks on Tuesday Night Football

You maybe asking Tuesday night
football.

The Los Angeles Rams have 25
players tested positive for covid
while the Seahawks have only two
players in Tyler Lockett and Alex
Collins. Only one receiver practiced
Penny Hart. Moving to Tuesday Dk
Metcalf might be ready. The Seahawks
may have to take players off the
practice. Running back is limited as
well. Rasaad Penny may have to play
a lot. The Rams will to take players
off their practice squad for sure.

Playing the game on Tuesday means the Seahawks have to come back and play
the next Sunday which isn't good. They
should play on Sunday or have Rams forfeit
It isn't good playing two games in five
days.

The Washington Huskies announced four
assistant coaches with two be retained.
Junior Adams who took over as offensive
coach when John Donovan was fired
will be back as receivers coach. Scott
Huff the offensive line coach be back too. The other two new will be tight end
coach Nick Sheridan and defensive line coach Inoke Breckterfield. Sheridan coached at Indiana where DeBoer was offensive coordinator in 2019.
Breckterfield last year at Vanderbilt
last year and six year before at Wisconsin.
The defense coordinator and three other
should be named sure.

JP Crawford

As major league  baseball  is on lockout
still  important  to  talk about the  sport
anyway.

Let  you  know JP Crawford recently
married and is expected to be the
Mariners  opening day shortstop.

The Mariners  are hoping  to sign a
free agent infielder.  Most likely the
player has been  a  shortstop but
with the Mariners  either go to 2nd
3rd base. This would  mean  either
newly acquired Adam Frazier or
Abraham Toro  will be the super
utility  player.

The  success  of  the  Mariners  in 2022
will begin with Crawford.  He will  either
leadoff  or bat 2nd. His defense will still
be his main part of his game, however,
another  step in his offense certainly
help the Mariners. We will  see it pass.
Go M's.

Early Signing Day Huskies and Cougar Football

The Washington  Huskies  only signed five
players for the class of 2022 under new
head coach Kalen DeBoer.

This doesn't  mean  the Huskies  are done.
They figure  to have 17 recruits when finished.
The official  signing day is February 2. Some
players can  choose to wait longer as well.

The new Huskies  are wide receivers Germie
Benard, Denzel  Boston,  tight end Ryan Otton
younger brother  of Cade Otton, offensive
lineman Parker  Brailsford, and  outside  linebacker/
defensive end Lance Holtzclaw.

The Cougars on the other hand  signed 11 players.
The newest player was tight end Andre Dollar who
originally  going to  Oregon,  linebacker  Taariq
Al-Uqdah, Djouvensky Schlenbaker a running  back
from Bellingham, offensive lineman Eric Wilder,
defensive  back Javan Robinson, .linebacker Hudson
Cedarland, offensive lineman  Jakobus Seth,  db
Layton Smithson, db  Bryce Grays, and db Sam Lockett.

More to come we will  see.

Seahawks beat Texans

It wasn't a surprise the Seattle Seahawks
beat the Houston Texans, however, the
question wasn't answered until the 4th
quarter.

The Seahawks won 33-13, however,
they were only leading 19-13 heading
into the 4th quarter. The Seahawks
kicked a field goal in the third quarter
though they could have had a touchdown
which would have made it a lot easier.

The three big players in the game were
Russell Wilson, Tyler Lockett and Rashaad
Penny. Russell had his best game since
returning from injury. This means the
Seahawks will be in good shape for their
remaining four games.

The Seahawks have to win all  four games
to have a chance to make the playoffs.
Even if they do win all four games doesn't
mean they will make the playoffs. They
will have a 9-8 record and other teams
will have to lose for them to get in.

Tyler Lockett had a big game having five
catches for 142 yards and a touchdown.
Lockett now is over 1000 yards for the
third straight year. Only one other Seahawk
has done that in his career in hall of famer
Steve Largent.

Rashaad Penny showed us what he can do
when he is healthy. He was the primary
running back as the Seahawks only played
Alex Collins enough to have seven carries.
Penny had 137 yards on sixteen  carries
and two touchdowns. He showed how
explosive he can be when he is healthy.
We hope to see more of Penny in the
remaining four games. For Penny to have
a future in Seattle or elsewhere he has to
stay healthy. We wish him the best.

On the defensive side of the ball the
Seahawks stopped the Texans from
running the ball having only 63 yards.
The Seahawks still need to improve on
the passing defense  as the Texans threw
for over 300 yards. The Seahawks still
do a good job of bend but don't break
but we need to see better.

Even if the Seahawks win the four
remaining games of the season they
will have changes after the season.
Some players won't be back. Next
week they play the Rams. This will
be a hard game for the Seahawks to
win though the Rams haven't been
that great themselves this season.
The Rams take on the Arizona
Monday night so we can do a
scouting report to see where they
are at. Go Hawks!

Washington State and Gonzaga

The Washington State Cougars lost to South Dakota State on Saturday 77-74 on Saturday at home. The Cougars are expected to be in the middle of the Pac-12
Conference. They are 7-3 overall with a conference record of 1-1. On December 1 they beat Arizona State 51-29.  It was followed by a loss to USC 63-61 three days later. Last Wednesday beat Weber State 90-61. They take on New Mexico State on Wednesday at home followed by Northern Colorado on Saturday.

Gonzaga was beaten on December 4 by Alabama 91-82. The now number 5 ranked Bulldogs rebounded to beat Merrimack 80-55. Gonaga was scheduled to play Washington Huskies on Sunday however the Huskies had to withdraw because of players and coaches with covid. Gonzaga plays next at home on December 18 against Texas Tech.

Baseball or Football?

The kind of season both the Seahawks
and Washington Huskies have had I am
sure many still want to think about the
Mariners though they are in a lockout.
I figure do look at both. More the
Huskies than the Seahawks today since
I wrote about Seahawks this week.

I am sure the Mariners are still looking
to go after additional pitching in the
starting rotation. I was reading on one
of my social media sites someone
suggested Sonny Gray. Not a bad choice
he is just turned 32. He had an era just
over 4 this last season. His record was
7-9 on the Cincinnati Reds.

Sonny Gray would be a number three
starter for the Mariners. So what would
you give up for him? I am sure the Reds
would like some pitching prospects. I
would go for a couple prospects between
#11 and #20 along with another #20 thru
#30. The Reds could look for a major
league player as well. Since the Mariners
have extra outfielders maybe send Jake
Fraley. I like Fraley, however, with Julio
Rodriguez about ready to be on the team
whether out of spring training or a month
into it. I am sure the Reds still would want
a prospect to go with him so may be  a
middle prospect.

Switching to college football the Huskies
have done a couple assistant coaches
hirings with more to come. They did lose
a commit in quarterback Jackson Stratton.
With Sam Huard most likely to start or
Dylan Morris if he stays around being
the number 3 quarterback at best doesn't
sound appealing.  Maybe Stratton feels
he would do better in another offense
than DeBoer's. I am sure he talked to
the Huskies new head coach and why
he made the decision he did.

The Huskies have 8 sure commits going
into December 15 early signing. We see
what they add on that day.  The Huskies
need to add more incoming defense
players for the 2022 freshman.

Keep an eye on the Huskies well as
the Seahawks and the Mariners.  It
will be busy when the lockout is over
whenever that happens. I hope in
January. You figure it is holiday season
so don't know how often if at all they
meet this month.

Seahawks Hope To Touchdown In Houston

The Seattle Seahawks play Sunday in Houston
against the Texans. This is  a winnable  game
since the Texans  have only two wins.

The Seahawks  will be without  safety Jamal
Adam's who will miss the rest of the season..
Adam's had surgery  on  a  shoulder. The
question how will  this effect him in the years
ahead. Ryan O'Neal will start  in Adam's  spot.

The Washington Huskies  have hired to assistant
coaches in offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb and
Julius Brown cornerback coach. Both come  over
from Fresno  Stat Also, Courtney  Morgan named
as UW director of player personnel. Morgan  will
be in charge of recruiting. He comes over from
University of  Michigan.  More staff will be named
over the next week or  so.

The Seattle Mariners 40-man Roster

Although  the players  are  locked  out   might
as well look  at the 40 man roster. I  am  sure
after the lock  out is over things  will change
in that regard.

Of the 40 roster  spots  21 of them are pitchers..
The Mariners  will go with five  starting pitcher
and  eight or nine  relievers. Say they  go with
nine relievers than make 14 pitchers and 12
position players  on 26 man roster for  the
season. This would depend on the collective
bargaining agreement. They could  go with 28
players. Doing so the players would have to
give up something in the agreement.

The Mariners starting  five will be recently
signed Cy Young winner Robbie Ray, Marco
Gonzales,  Chris  Flexen, Logan  Gilbert plus
one more.  This could be Matt Brash who
had a successful  season in double-A in 2021.
This would mean Justus Sheffield and or
Justin Dunn could be  in the  bullpen or traded.
Another candidate would  be Nick Margevicius
who was injured  most of last season.

In the bullpen three who will be counted  on to
pitch the eighth and ninth innings will be Paul
Sewald, Drew Steckenrider and Diego Castillo.
The Mariners  have Ken Giles and Andres Munoz
who can pitch late innings as well. Casey Sadler
who had  outstanding season in 2021 will again
be the first reliever out of the bullpen and then at
least one lefty. Last year Anthony  Misiewicz was
the only  one  most of last season. He didn't have a
good season  so Margevicius  or Sheffield  could
take his  spot though  more likely  long reliever and
spot starter. This would leave two relievers  left.

The Mariners have Erik Swanson and  Yohan Ramirez
that could fill one or two spots. The Mariners  have  a
few others  who  spent time  in the  minors as well.
They could add one  or more to compete.

At catcher they have Cal Raleigh,  Tom Murphy, Luis
Torrens, and Jose Godoy. Raleigh will likely be  the
starter with  Murphy catching against lefties on
occasion.  Torrens do some dh well as first base along
with catching. Godoy likely  begin at triple-A. Murphy
or Torrens could  be  traded to.

In the  infield  Ty France  at first  base, with newly
acquired Adam Frazier at second, JP Crawford at short,
and Abraham  Toro at third. This  will  depend  on signing
a free agent  or not.  Not  sure whether Dylan  Moore be
on the team or not.  Evan White be on the team or not.
Might play  left field too.

In the outfield right now  Kyle Lewis  if healthy be in left or
center field. Jarred Kelenic be either spot  to. Mitch Haniger
in right. Lewis and  Haniger will do some dh as well. Jake
Fraley  be the 4th outfielder if he is on the ball club. Julio
Rodriguez is the  big one whether  he starts the season or
arrives in a month  or  two.  The Mariners  have Taylor
Trammell still.

We look forward to another good season  ahead. Go M's

Huskies Add Offensive Coordinator

Washington Huskies head coach Kalen
DeBoer on Monday announced the hiring
of his first assistant coach to the staff.

DeBoer hired Ryan Grubb as offensive
coordinator and quarterback coach. This
will be the fourth stop where Grubb is
on the same staff as DeBoer. They were
together at Sioux Falls followed by
Eastern Michigan and Fresno State.
It is good to have someone who knows
your offense and how to run it.

DeBoer should start hiring the rest of
his staff in the coming days. The biggest
hiring coming up next will be the defense
coordinator. What defense they run will
be determined by the coordinator.

The Huskies have a talented group on
the defensive side of the ball. They were
the reason the Huskies were in any of
their games this last season. If they need
improvement it is on run defense. Whether
this coordinator comes from Fresno State
or elsewhere we will find out soon.

Bob Gregory the defensive coordinator
turned interim head coach likely won't
return but we have heard stranger things
before. It will be interesting to see any
members of the Washington staff from
2021 will be back. Go Dawgs!

Seahawks Beat 49ers

It wasn't an easy win but the best the
Seahawks have had in a while. In fact,
they haven't won since Halloween.

The Seahawks beat the 49ers 30-23.
The Seahawks got off to the start
where Travis Homer took a fake punt
on the first possession all the way for
a touchdown. The 49ers though scored
17 unanswered points before the Seahawks
were able to do anything else positive.

Gerald Everett the Seahawks signed as
a free agent during the off-season from
the Rams had three turnovers including
two fumbles. One fumble was critical
late in the game when the Seahawks look
like they were going to put the game away
with a touchdown. The Seahawks had
Everett run the ball but he fumbled on
the one run line.

The 49ers went down the field like the
were going to score to tie the game without
time left on the clock. It looked like a sure
thing. The Seahawks couldn't tackle at all
until 49ers were inside Seattle's five yard
line. The Seahawks have been tough on
defense when the other team is in the red
zone. Again this happened. Sidney Jones
was able to stop a pass on third down
then on fourth down Carlos Dunlap batted
a ball away that gave the ball back to
Seattle. Russell Wilson went to the knee
and that was the ball game.

The Seahawks go to Houston next Sunday
to take on the Texans. The Texans have
only won two games so the Seahawks
should win the game. We know with
them anything can happen. The Seahawks
are now 4-8. They have to win their final
five games to have any chance to get in
the playoffs though things have to go
their way still to get in.

Even if the Seahawks go to the playoffs
which is unlikely changes will need to
done to the team. They will need changes
on offense as well as defense. Also,
changes to the coaching staff too. Not
sure whether that has to do with Pete
Carroll or the assistants.

We will look at how things go during
the off-season. One loss in these five
games remaining pretty much do the
Seahawks in.

I get tired what I hear about the Seahawks
during the off-season, however, this year
is worse than in previous ten years or so.
Will they have to rebuild? Like the
Mariners have been doing. The problem
they don't have any early draft
picks since they traded with the Jets to
pick up Jamal Adams. I am sure we will
have discussions about trading for Adams
as well. Juror is still out of him but sure
makes it hard on the Seahawks to do
anything in the draft.

The Seahawks will have to do some
trading of players to get additional draft
picks throughout the draft. They will
have to sign some free agents and make
no mistakes on them too. Go Hawks!

Looking toward next season

Whether  talking about the Seattle Mariners
or the Seattle Seahawks or the Washington
Huskies football we hope  for better things.

The Mariners have hope for  a better year
then the football  teams.  The Mariners have
better starting pitching and  the offense has
improved with  more to come we hope. We
hope  the lock down doesn't  last long and
be over in January.

The Seahawks  have questions on both
sides of the ball.  I am  sure  fans will
speculate what the future of Coach Pete
Carroll, his coaching staff and changes
to the roster  especially Russell Wilson.

The Huskies have a new Head Coach so
that gives  hope and they have some good
young players. We hope the Coach brings
in good assistances. The offense will need
improve a lot too. The  wide receivers are
good; they need help  on the line and at
running back. On defense  improve against
the run and still good against the pass.

Seattle Kraken and Mariner Updates

The Seattle Kraken won two games in a row beating the Florida Panthers 4-1 and the Buffalo Sabres 7-4 in a high scoring affair. On Wednesday the Kraken lost in overtime 4-3 to the Detroit
Red Wings. All three games were on the road.
The Kraken come home on Friday night to take
on the Edmonton Oilers. It will not be an easy
game to win. The Kraken right now are 8-13-2.

On Wednesday major league baseball went  on
lockout. We won't likely hear any baseball news
for a while unless they get to a new agreement
earlier.

Max Scherzer now of the New York Mets signing
a large contract said the players don't like the lack
of competition because of several teams rebuilding
such as the Seattle Mariners. So veteran players
that are not superstars were losing their jobs.
Scherzer should not be one to talk about that.
Also, several players who are on the players union
sub-committee signed large contracts to.

I don't know about the other teams that are rebuilding
Jerry Dipoto and the Mariners realized they likely
would not make the playoffs with the current roster
back in 2018. They won 89 games that year but under
.500 after the all-star break. Having an older club
Dipoto felt it was time to make the changes.

Two players Dipoto traded were Robinson Cano and
Mike Zunino who I last seen are still playing in the
major leagues though Cano did not play in 2021 for
 being suspended once again.

The Mariners have gone from the worst farm system
to one of the top two in baseball. This should be good
news instead of these high salary players who think
they are standing up for the middle salary players. If
you are so concerned don't make as much money so
other players can make more money. Other words
get off your high horse.

I guess this means we have to write about the
winter sports as where the Mariners will go this
coming  season. Hopefully this will be resolved
sooner then later.

Seattle Mariners and More

The Seattle Mariners five-year contract
with Robbie Ray was finalized on Tuesday.
They also signed reliever Andres Munoz
to a four- year deal plus options for three
more years. Munoz was part of the trade
that brought Ty France, Luis Torrens and
Taylor Trammell at the trading deadline
in 2020 from San Diego. He spent most
of 2021 out recovering from Tommy John
surgery.

Major league baseball owners and players
are still negotiating on a new collective
bargaining agreement. If  there is an impasse
than likely the players will be locked out
and no baseball business will be done until
a new agreement is settled.

The Mariners signed Casey Sadler to a new
contract and tendered contract to 33 players.

The Seahawks are 3-8 now after their loss
to the Washington Football team on Monday
night. They would have to win all remaining
games to have a chance. It will be interesting
off-season to say the least.

Washington Huskies new Head Coach Kalen
DeBoer had his introduction press conference
on Tuesday. He said all the right things. See
how it turns out.

Cy Young Coming to Town

Cy Young himself is not coming to
Seattle, however, Cy Young 2021 AL winner
Robbie Ray is expected to sign a 5-yr contract
for $115 million. Ray can opt out after three
years. We hope the Mariners can win an AL
Championship if not the World Series in three
years.

Will the Mariners sign a position  player ?
May have more news on Tuesday since CBA
is over on Tuesday afternoon and the players
might be locked out we will see.

Who will be out for Seahawks on Monday Night Football

The Seahawks will be playing the Washington
Football Team on Monday night football. The
Seahawks will be down to two running backs
in DeeJay Dallas and likely starter Alex Collins
who has been banged up for the last several
games. Travis Homer and Raashad Penny
will both miss this game.

The Seahawks will be without right guard
Damien Lewis as well. This isn't a good
sign for either the running game or the passing
as they will have to go with a backup.

Washington has a 4-6 record winning their
last two games. Hard to know who will win
this game but the Seahawks will have to show
something both on offense and defense to
have a chance. The best chance is Washington
doesn't score a lot of points because the
Seahawks likely won't. Go Hawks!

What's Next For Mariners

The trade the Mariners made on Saturday
bringing Adam Frazier improved the team.
How much we won't know until the season
begins and what other signings or trades
come about.

At least right now Adam Frazier is the
Mariners second baseman and Abraham
Toro takes over at third base. The Mariners
sign one of the free agent infielders out
there than Frazier or Toro will be a super
utility player. This would depend whether
the Mariners feel the player signed is better
at second or third.

This free agent sign  Frazier could be playing
some outfield and possibly third base on
occasion or the free agent is more to play
third base than Toro will spend time at
both second and third. He could do some
duty at first base as well.

The Mariners don't have a full-time dh
so Frazier, Toro and the unknown free
agent will be there as well. We do know
Kyle Lewis and Mitch Haniger will be
at dh on some occasions as well. Luis
Torrens will likely be dh against lefties.
He to could be behind the plate once
again or some first and third as well.

Besides signing a infield free agent
the Mariners need to bring in at least
one starting pitcher. At this point we
know they have Marco Gonzales, Chris
Flexen and Logan Gilbert. Another
pitcher added on would improve the
rotation. The Mariners will have
Justus Sheffield and Justin Dunn
back among a few others. One of
them might be the 5th starter but
an ace would be more than nice.

In other news the Washington State
Cougars announced Jake Dickert is
now the Head Coach and no more
the interim coach. Not a big surprise
after the win over Washington in the
Apple Cup.

In college basketball #5 Duke beat
#1 Gonzaga Saturday night 84-81.
Though Gonzaga likely not #1 any
longer expect them to be one of the
top seeds when NCAA tournament
happens in March.

Gonzaga did have four players in
double figures led by guard Julian
Strawther with 20 points and 10
rebounds. Gonzaga takes on Tarleton
State on Monday night. Never heard
of them I was in the same boat. They
are located in Stephenville, Texas.
A member of the WAC conference.
The game will be in Spokane.

Mariners Trade With Padres Again

The seattle Mariners  made a trade  Saturday
morning  with  the San Diego  Padres getting
second  baseman Adam Frazier for two minor
leaguers.

For the Mariners  it looks  like a good  trade
at this  time.  According  to general manager
Jerry  Dipoto it doesn't  mean the Mariners
are  not  out of  the running  to  acquire a free
agent. The Mariners  sign a free  agent  then
Frazier  will play multiple  positions.  This
would include  the  outfield.

Right now this means Abraham  Toro will
move back to 3rd base where  he played
with  the Houston  Astros.

Next when  will  the Washington  Huskies
announce their new head coach. Hopefully
by Monday. Huskies  don't  need to  lose
any commitments for  next season.

The Huskies   men's soccer team are now
In the NCAA  sweet EIGHT Go DAWGS

Huskies Lose to Cougars

Friday's Apple Cup should be
embarrassing to the players and
the coaches of the Huskies losing
to the Cougars 40-13.

It isn't the losing to the Cougars
it is how they lost. They came out
almost like the first game of the
season against Montana where
there was no life to the team.

The defense who had a good
season were not any better than
the offense. Sam Huard started
the game and at times looked
like the part he will be a good
college quarterback. He threw
four interceptions as well.

The Cougars had the ball over
forty minutes of the game which
makes it a real embarrassment.
The Cougars are a good team
and likely would have won the
game no matter what but for
the Huskies to look like they
wanted to stay home was not
the way to go.

The coaches might have been
their last coaching at UW but
they should have put in a better
effort. I wouldn't blame players
who would want to transfer to
another school or the incoming
freshman would decide to
decommit.

The Huskie looked like the
terrible team they were all
season long. The defense who
were the only good part of the
season should at least showed
up. Losing to the Cougars
wasn't the story it was how
they lost.

Now we hope Oregon State
Beavers can beat the Oregon
Ducks so the Cougars can play
Utah for Pac-12 championship.
At least that is something the
state of Washington can be proud
of.

The Huskies came out the
beginning of the season without
a care in the world against Montana
and ended it the same way.

Best to those who are seniors
who came back for one additional
season. Thank you for the football
you played. To be honest you
were shafted this year. Go Dawgs!

Mariners or Huskies first

I am wondering if Jerry Dipoto is
going to pull the trigger on a free
agent or a trade first or well Jenn
Cohen get a new head coach first.

It doesn't matter with me but I
would like something happening.
Baseball CPA ends on December
1 so nothing will happen until
the Owners and Players are able
to get a new deal. I am sure there
are a few issues but the players
are doing well that is for sure.
My opinion is allowing free agency
a little earlier instead of young players
having to wait. It isn't worth going
for older players especially pitchers.

College football signing recruits
early happens on December 15. Don't
want to have the Huskies lose some
recruits because they don't know who
the coach is. Those living in state
I am sure want to play at Washington
so not as big a deal but still important.

The Huskies have 10 commits so far
and may have only 17 altogether. Also,
there is the transfer portal. They may
lose a few players after the Apple Cup
as well. Those who haven't played a lot
because of allowing seniors last year
come back this season.

Most of the players trouble likely be
on the offensive side not on defense
unless they are tired of losing after
good efforts week each week. So
Huskies sign a new coach Friday
or by Monday anyway. Not all
team's seasons are over but most
are except bowl games so let's
pull the plug.

Go Mariners and Dawgs!

Huskies Lose Seahawks Up Next

The Washington Huskies lost in a manner
they have had all season long and that has
been with their offense.

Colorado beat Washington 20-17 and it
wasn't anything Colorado did other than
take advantage of the turnovers. The
Huskies played better especially the
defense who deserved better as they
have all season long.

Colorado scored first with a field goal
in their first possession. The Huskies
looked like they would score in their
first time with the ball instead a lineman
bumped into quarterback Dylan Morris.
Colorado player was able to scoop up
the ball and run 88 yards for touchdown.
The Huskies actually were able to even
the score in the first half ending 10-10

The second half wasn't kind to the Huskies
with three more turnovers. The first one
an interception the defense was able to stop
Colorado in their possession. The Huskies
fumbled leading to a field goal late in the
third period for Colorado. Dylan Morris
through another interception in the next
possession which led to another Colorado
touchdown in the fourth quarter.

The Huskies didn't have much time left
but they did score a touchdown to make
it interesting at 20-17. The Huskies did
get the ball back with just over two minutes
to go but went four and out. With just over
one minute to go Colorado just had to take
each down having the quarterback go to
his knees to end it.  Whether it is in the
Apple Cup this Friday or next season the
offense needs a jump start. This is whether
Dylan Morris or Sam Huard is the quarterback.

The Seahawks Sunday play the Arizona
Cardinals. It is a must win game for the
Seahawks to have any chance to make the
playoffs. Chris Carson is lost for the season
with his back. The big question will he be
able to play a game again. I questioned the
Seahawks resigning him in the first place.
Alex Collins is banged up so how much
he will play is in question so the other
running backs will have to come to play.
The Seahawks will need to be able to
run the ball some or go for short passes
as what the new offense is supposed to do.
Of course, how is Russell Wilson's finger
this week is too. We will see won't we.

Washington State Cougars Beat Arizona

The Washington State Cougars beat the
Arizona Wildcats Friday night 44-18. Not
a big surprise since Arizona has only one
win two weeks ago over California 10-3.

The Cougars quarterback Jayden de Laura
threw 22 passes completing 13 for 259 yards
and four touchdowns. The Cougars have more
of a balanced attack as running back Max
Borghi ran for 139 yards on 16 and two td's.
Fellow running back Deon McIntosh had
10 carries for 73 yards.

If the Washington Huskies win Saturday over
Colorado in Bolder then the Apple Cup as
well then Huskies and Cougars will be tied
with a record of 5-4 in league action.

The Cougars men's basketball team is undefeated
being 4-0. They look to have a good season. The
Huskies are 2-2. Not sure yet but I believe when
they jell be much better team than last year's. In
fact on the defensive side they already are. Just
have to shoot better.

Washington Huskies Men's Basketball

On Thursday Night the Washington
men's basketball team lost to Wyoming
in what should be called an upset. They
lost 77-72 in overtime.

They are now 2-2 on the season. The
Huskies have players that getting to
know each other since only two starters
Jamal Bey and Nate Roberts returned.
Bey had 10 points in the game while
Roberts had 3 points along with 7
rebounds but he only played 19 minutes.

The Huskies were led by Terrell Brown Jr
with 30 points. Brown Jr and Bey were
the only ones to score in double figures.
Next was PJ Fuller with 9 points.

The Huskies continue to have trouble
hitting behind the 3 point line. They
made 5 of 26 shots behind the arc.
Also they made only 15 of 23 foul shots
to. Had they made a couple more free
throws and an additional or two behind
the 3 pt line they would have won.

Wyoming didn't make a high percentage
of free throws either but shot many more
free throws making 20 of  32.

The Huskies to have a winning record
this year they will need to make higher
percentage of three's and free throws.
They did better having 16 offensive
rebounds. Another area they have had
trouble with.

Huskies next action will be next Monday
when they take on George Mason. They
will be in a three-team tournament in
South Dakota.  They play South Dakota
State on Tuesday and Nevada on Wednesday.
Go Dawgs!

Seahawks leading into week 11

This weeks game against the Arizona Cardinals
is a must game win if the Seahawks have any
chance to make the playoffs.

Russell Wilson needs to have his finger working
or go back to Geno Smith. Russell can start the
first quarter but if he isn't passing right then Geno
should be put in. Russell is participating in practice.

The Seahawks running game is not good maybe
terrible. Alex Collins was held out of practice on
Wednesday. We hope he is a go in the game. Also
DK Metcalf was held out of practice with an injury.
I am sure he will make every effort to be ready
for the game.

How many think this is a season being considered
over or can the Seahawks bounce back? Go Hawks!

Mariners Make Changes to Coaching Staff

As we still wait for a trade or free
agent signing the Mariners on
Monday announced their coaching
staff for 2022.

Returning from 2021 will be third
base coach Manny Acta, Trent
Blank bullpen coach and director
of pitching strategy, Carson Vitale
major league field coordinator,
Pitching coach Pete Woodworth
and infield coach Perry Hill. You
will find that Hill will no longer
coach first base though.

Not returning are hitting Tim
Laker who declined Mariners
offer to return. The Mariners
offense wasn't up to par so
interesting they offered and
he declined. Also Jarred Sandberg
bench coach won't return. No
reason why, however, the Mariners
are not going to have a bench coach
in 2022. Scott Servais will get
input from all the coaches.

Added to the coaching staff are
Andy McKay to major league
coach and senior director of
major league development. As
a major league coach not sure
what his duties will be. He was
promoted from what we would
call minor league farm director.
The Mariners now being one of
the top minor league teams in
baseball it is not a surprise
McKay is promoted. Be
interesting to see whether
anyone will take over  his old
position or he is given added
duties with the promotion.

Jarret DeHart was promoted
to head hitting coach and
director of hitting strategy.
Tony Arnerich hitting coach
takes DeHart's position.
Arnerich had been minor
league field and catching
coordinator. The final
promotion is Kristopher
Negron be the first base
coach. He was the manager
of the Tacoma Rainiers team
for a season in 2021. We
wish all these guys a good
coming season.

The Mariners I am sure will
add coaches to their minor
league teams well as promotions.

Seahawks Shut Out in Green Bay

The Seattle Seahawks with the return
of Russell Wilson was shut out 17-0.
Wilson played like he had missed
three games completing 20 out 40
passes for 161 yards and two
interceptions. One interception
was in the third quarter when it
looked like Seahawks would score.

The Seahawks had a chance to lead
since it was only 3-0 Packers at
the time. Former Washington Husky
Kevin King intercepted the pass
though it looked like he wasn't
having total control of the ball but
review didn't turn it back to the
Seahawks. Packers went down
and scored. With 1:56 remaining
in the game the Packers scored
their second and final touchdown.

News came out Sunday afternoon
the Washington Huskies fired head
coach Jimmy Lake who had been
suspended before the loss to the
Arizona State Sun Devils on
Saturday.  Bob Gregory defensive
coordinator who coached the team
on Saturday will coach the Huskies
the last two games of the season as
well. The Huskies will start look
for a new coach immediately.

WSU Cougars lost to the Oregon
Ducks on Saturday 38-24. The
Ducks scored two touchdowns
in the first quarter than the Cougars
came back with two td's of their
own to tie at 14-14 at half time.

The Ducks shut out the Cougars
in the third quarter while scoring
10 points. The Cougars scored 10
points themselves in the 4th quarter
however the Ducks had 14 as well.
The Ducks ran the ball 306 yards.
They had almost 11 more minutes
having the ball than the Cougars.
WSU and Oregon State are tied for
second with 4-3 records in the Pac-12
north. The Ducks should win the
division.

In men's basketball the Cougars are
2-0 beating Alcorn State 85-67 in
the opener and Seattle U. 79-61.
The Washington Huskies are 1-1
losing their opener to North Illinois
however coming back to be North
Arizona.

The Gonzaga Bulldogs ranked #1
in the country are 2-0. They take on
Alcorn State at home Monday night.

Still no trade or free agent signing
for the Mariners yet. Maybe today
be the day?

The Seattle Kraken lost again on
Saturday night 4-2 to the Minnesota
Wild. The Kraken had beaten them
in their previous meeting. The Kraken
now have lost 4 straight games. They
will take on the Chicago Blackhawks
on Wednesday night. Having three
days off may help the Kraken to get
things going. The Kraken now have
a record of 4-10-1. Though an
expansion team I think everyone
expected more from this team.

Weekend Football

The Pac-12 game of the weekend is
the Washington State Cougars at the
Oregon Ducks. The winner will be
in first place and control their destiny
the rest of the way. The Ducks are
favored, however, the Cougars could
do an upset. Go Cougs!

The Washington Huskies will be
home against the Arizona State
Sun Devils. ASU should be favored.
With Bob Gregory coaching in place
of Jimmy Lake and a new offensive
coordinator it is hard to know how
the offense will go. I expect they will
be better than last week against the
Ducks. An Okay offense may let the
Huskies upset the Sun Devils. Go Dawgs!

The Seahawks have Russell Wilson back
this week the problem is they play in
Green Bay where they haven't won in
a while. The Packers are expected to have
Aaron Rodgers back after missing a week
being on covid list. Expect the Packers
to be favored however we hope  for an
upset. Go hawks!

We can only hope for a good weekend of
football. Winning at least two out of three
would be good for sure. Enjoy your weekend
and football too.

Kraken Lose Big Time

The Seattle Kraken lose 7-4 on
Thursday night. Something has
to change. I would say the goalie.

The Kraken have lost three games
in a row. Giving up a total of 16
goals in the three games while
scoring 10. You would think they
would win at least two of the
three games scoring10.

The Kraken were down 4-2
after two periods. The Anaheim
Mighty Ducks scored three
goals in both the second and
third periods. The Kraken's
major trouble has been in
the 3rd period. Need a little
shaking up it seems. Go Kraken!

Building on the Bullpen Or Losing Someone

A major reason the Seattle Mariners
won 90 games was the bullpen. A
group of guys you would not have
expected.

Paul Sewald certainly was a surprise
since he signed a minor league contract
and started the season in Tacoma. He
ended up being the Mariners best
reliever at the end of games. Sometimes
Paul would close or come in 7th or 8th
inning depending on the opponent lineup.
Most of the time he would have the top
or middle of the lineup. The other team's
best hitters and had success most of the
time. Of course it didn't start out that
way.

Drew Steckenrider was another one
we could see anywhere between the
7th and the 9th inning. He ended the
season as the Mariners closer. He
stumbled in his opening game for
the Mariners but after that he was
sailing through for the most part.

The third member was Casey Sadler
who the Mariners picked up off
waivers in 2020. He had such success
he didn't give up a run for like 27
straight games and ended the season
that way. Often and especially after
the trading deadline Sadler was the
first Mariner to come out of the
bullpen regardless of the inning.

The question now will all three
pitchers be back next season. The
likelihood they will be but the
Mariners may have to deal one
of them to get a trade they like
to make. I expect Sewald and
Sadler won't go anywhere but
Steckenrider could under the
right circumstances.

The Mariners look going into
2022 adding depth to the bullpen.
Already on the 40-man roster
or will be anyway. Andres Munoz
who was out most of last year.
The Mariners acquired him along
Ty France, and Luis Torrens to
mention two. The other is Ken
Giles who sat out last year as
well. The Mariners signed him
as a free agent though they knew
he would not pitch in 2021.

This means the Mariners will
be able to have several relievers
who will be able to pitch in the
last three innings of the game.
We certainly will see Munoz
and Giles in there. The Mariners
have Diego Castillo they added
at the trade deadline. Who knows
might have one or two others as
well.

Most likely the Mariners will go
with eight possibly nine relievers.
Unless someone is dealt six
for sure will be in there unless
an injury happens to someone.
Go M's.

Hurry Up Jerry

Jerry Dipoto said in his press conference on.Tuesday the Mariners will go after high priced free agents as well as making trades.

I know it is beginning of day three of general manager meetings but come on we want hear about a new Mariner. Maybe today will be it. I will let you know who and when they sign and a trade to.

Washington Huskies basketball team had their first game of the season. They lost to Northern Illinois. Terrible three-point shooting as well as foul shooting. If they don't they won't win a game. Hopefully have improvement next time.

Russell Wilson Expected Return

After missing three games and a bye
week Russell Wilson expected to
return this Sunday against the Green
Bay Packers. The question will be is
Aaron Rodgers going to play after
being placed on Covid-19 injury
list.

I am sure most of the Seahawks fans
hope Rodgers misses this game. The
Seahawks can use all the favors that
can be mustered.

The Seahawks top draft pick Dee
Eskridge returned to practice on
Monday. Not sure expected to play
against the Packers. Chris Carson's
expect back at practice on Wednesday
to see if is a go against the Packers
after missing four games with a
bad neck. Doctors doing tests on
him to see if he is ready to go.

Washington Huskies certainly
will have another look at the
coaching staff this Saturday
against Arizona State. Head
coach Jimmy Lake was suspend
for the Arizona State game for
shoving a player. Defensive
coordinator Bob Gregory be
coaching the team.

With the firing of offensive
coordinator John Donovan
it will be interesting to see
what the offense will look
like on Saturday. You think
it should be better.

Monday, November 8, 2021

Huskies Lose More Than A Game

Saturday as I posted last time the Huskies
not only lost with a very poor performance
of the offense the offensive coordinator was
fired. Fans have been asking for it for several
weeks but this was worst all season.

So now wide receiver coach Junior Adams
will be calling the plays the rest of the season.
John Donovan is now out. Either he doesn't
know college football or he doesn't know the
way the offense at Washington should run.
Also, grad assistant Payton McCollum takes
over as quarterback coach another function
Donovan had performed. We wish Donovan
the best wherever he lands.

This coming Saturday the Huskies will be
taking on Arizona State who have been
struggling as of late. It will be interesting
to how things play out this coming game.
Will Dylan Morris be at quarterback which
wouldn't surprise me and the team go back
to offense that was successful. We will see.

The Kraken, Huskies Lose and Cougars Win

Saturday night the Seattle Kraken lost
a disappointing game in Arizona against
the Coyotes 5-4. Always tough especially
when leading in the game. The Coyotes
scored three of their four goals in the
third period. So far the Kraken have
had trouble in the third period scoring
and giving up scores. They will be a
good team if they can get that straighten
out.

The Washington Huskies lost to the
Oregon Ducks 26-16 at home on
Saturday late afternoon. The Huskies
had a decent offense they would have
won the game. Carson Bruener was
able to intercept a pass in the first
three minutes of the game that led
to a Sean McGrew touchdown.

The Ducks came back for a field goal,
however, the Huskies were able to
score a safety after a great punt by
Race Porter. The Oregon's offense
was as bad at the time. At the 8:03
mark of the second quarter Huskies
went on fourth down but stopped
by the /Ducks. Why they didn't
go for a field goal was bad coaching
decision. The game was downhill
from there.

The Ducks scored three touchdowns
before the Huskies scored a touchdown
in the 4th quarter.  The defense was
able to stop the Ducks to give them
a chance to tie the game at 24-16
with a touchdown and two-point
conversion though there was only
a little over two minutes remaining
in the game and they would have
to drive for 90 yards. Instead the
Huskies were unable to complete
a pass on three downs.

The thought would be the Huskies
go it on fourth down because the
only chance to tie instead decided
to punt. Not only a bad decision
the ball when hiked went over
the punter's head through the end
zone for a safety.  Just shows
how bad the Huskies offense
is right now and coaching decisions.

The Washington State Cougars were
the only bright spot in college football
in Washington in the Pac-12.
They beat Arizona State 34-21. The
game was on the road in Arizona as
well. ASU started the season off well
but not so good lately. They do play
the Huskies next week so maybe
saving grace unless the Huskies can
figure how to get out of their mess.

The Cougars had a great start having
two touchdowns in the first quarter.
They had two more in the second with
Sun Devils scoring as well putting the
Cougars up 28-7 at the half.  Neither
team scored in the third period. The
Sun Devils gave it a shot in the 4th
quarter scoring two touchdowns but
wasn't enough as the Cougars scored
six additional points on two field goals.

Sophomore quarterback Jayden de Laura
threw for 234 yards and two touchdowns.
He also scored a touchdown himself
running the ball in. The Cougars were
able to run for 166 yards on the ground.

The Cougars are one game behind the
Oregon Ducks who they play in Eugene
next Saturday. The Cougars win then
they have a good chance on the north
division title  when finishing up the
next Friday against Arizona followed
by the Huskies in the Apple Cup on
that Friday. Other words they control
their own destiny.

Washington at home against Oregon

Always a big game the Washington are at
home against the Oregon Ducks at 4 pm.

It is an important game for the Huskies.
They have a record of 4-4 and the Ducks
are 7-1. In the last 20 years the ranked
team has won this series so not good
for the Huskies.

The Huskies win this game they will be
tied for first place in the Pac-12 north
division which is amazing the way they
have played most of the season.

Last week against Stanford the Huskies
won 20-13. They surprised the Cardinal
with 21 seconds scoring a touchdown
pass in the end zone. The Cardinal were
expecting the Huskies to setup a field goal
to put themselves up by one. The Huskies
had only four field goals on the day.

The Huskies will have to do better than
last week when it comes to offense
expecting to win. They actually ran the
ball for over 200 yards something missing
most of the season. The problem was
the Huskies couldn't get into the end zone
when the time was right.

The defense did a good job. Did the best
time against the run with Stanford having
less than a hundred yards in the game.
Th Cardinal though threw the ball quite
often short which many ways was like
running the ball. Like most teams the
Huskies shut down the long pass. To
beat Oregon they will need to shut down
the passing and running game.

The best chance for the Huskies is to
keep the game close. In this rivalry
you never know though as I said
history has shown recently the high
ranked team wins. We hope for an
upset. Go Dawgs!

Kraken End Losing Streak

The Seattle Kraken ended their
two game losing streak in a big
way beating the Buffalo Sabres
5-2.

The Sabres are right in the middle
of the Atlantic Division now with
a 5-4-1 record. They have lost
now three games in a row though.

The Kraken scored the only goal
in the first period. The Sabres
came back to score two goals
while the Kraken had one to
make it 2-2 after two periods.

It was a good third period for
the Kraken with three goals.
The Kraken have had trouble
scoring in the third period well
as giving up goals to so this is
a good sign.

Jordan Eberle was the player
of the game he scored shortly
after the Sabres took a 2-1.
Eberle scored a second goal
within two minutes of the third
period and had a third one as
well. Eberle is the first Kraken
to have a hat trick.

The Kraken now go to Arizona
to take on the Coyotes on Saturday
night. They follow by going to
Vegas once again to take on the
Golden Knights. They were the
team they lost to in their  first
ever in regular season. They lost
on October 12 4-3.

The Kraken now are 4-6-1.
They are at the bottom of the
Pacific Division but with a win
over the Golden Knights they
would likely move up to the
middle of the division. Go Kraken!

Kikuchi Becomes Free Agent

On Wednesday Yusei Kikuchi decided
to decline his option as well as the one
the Mariners declined.

I guess he decided to go the free agent
route.  He did leave some good money
on the table though, however, I am sure
he didn't want to be where he wasn't
wanted in his mind anyway.

The first half of the season Kikuchi had
a fine season, the reason he made the
all-star team. His last start before the
all-star wasn't good and it was downhill
from there.

Kikuchi certainly has the talent he just
needs his head in the game all the time.
I wonder how hurt he was.

Whether it was the Pandemic or the short
season of 2020 a lot of Mariners were
injured especially pitchers. Regardless I
think the Mariners need a better medical
program to keep the pitchers more healthy.
At least that is my opinion anyway.

Trades and free agency about to start. At
this point the Mariners will need to fill
two spots in the rotation whether it is
within the organization or going out
picking up a pitcher.

Tyler Anderson who helped the Mariners
win 90 games will be a free agent as
well. I hope the Mariners find a way to
bring him back. Of course, we can't
forget James Paxton. What his health
is at and what risk to sign him too.
Look forward to the weeks ahead
to see what the Mariners do to improve
the ballclub. Go M's.

Haniger in right field

Mitch Haniger was the primary right
fielder for the Mariners in 2021. This
was after missing most of two seasons.
It was nice to see him healthy all season
long.

What is great about Mitch is he can
be anywhere in the lineup. Most of the
season he batted second though was
moved to third in the order in September.
Basically he and Ty France switched
spots though Kyle Seager spent some
time batting third as well.

Mitch was one of the reasons the
Mariners won 90 games as he led
the team in home runs with 39 and
second in rbi's.

In 2022 the outfield will likely get
crowded so how much he plays in
right field will be in question. Again
he will spend some time at dh as
he did in 2021. He usually was dh
once a week but could expand to
twice a week in 2022. This will
depend on whether Kyle Lewis
is healthy enough to play and
when Julio Rodriguez makes his
debut for the Mariners. It will be
really interesting if Rodriguez
starts the season in Seattle. The
Mariners will have Kelenic as
well.

I hope if Lewis does play he is
in left field while Kelenic is in
center. If Rodriguez starts the
season in Seattle we could see
Haniger twice a week at dh
with Lewis spending time at
dh as well. In that case Julio
would be in left and right field.

Whatever does happen we know
right field will be taken care of
really nicely.

Now that the World Series is
over Friday should be when
teams are able to start trading.
It will be interesting to see
what Jerry Dipoto comes up
with. Also, next week will be
free agency and whether the
Mariners will sign someone
for the infield or not.  A trade
will give us a better idea what
happens in free agency.

Who is in Center Field

The 2021 season Taylor Trammell
began in center field because rookie
of the year Kyle Lewis was on the
injured list. Trammell had a good
spring training, however, he couldn't
hit well during the time up with the
Mariners.

When Lewis did return Trammell
moved over to left field until being
sent down because lack of production
at the plate. Lewis ended up playing
in 36 games before being injured
again and going on the injured list
the rest of the season. Had Lewis
been on the team the whole season
the Mariners he most likely had
more home runs as he had 5 home
runs during those 36 games. The
Mariners sputtered at the plate
for the rest of the season although
they won 90 games.

Mariners top prospect Jarred Kelenic
came up when Trammell was having
issues at the plate. He played left
field until Lewis went on the injured
list. He to struggled at the plate early
on hitting under .100 when the
Mariners sent him back down to
triple-A for a short period. Though
he struggled for a while after return
he did continue getting better.

September Kelenic had a batting
average of around .250 which gave
him a total of average of .181. He
had a total of 14 home runs in 93
games. Also, Kelenic had 377 plate
appearances so should show him
good going into 2022. A lot of
fans questioned his defense in
center field. I thought he did fine.
The problem was lack communication
with the other outfielders especially
Mitch Haniger who often went after
balls that should have been for
Kelenic. Though he is a veteran
Haniger should have known better.

The question is who will be in
center field in 2022. Will Kyle
Lewis be there if he is healthy
enough to start the season or
Kelenic.  I would prefer Kelenic
because of Lewis knees he would
be better in left or right field.
Most likely Lewis will do some
dh as well as Haniger. I would say
at least twice a week for Lewis
and Haniger at least once. This
would leave dh role to other
players like Luis Torrens. This
will allow other players to rest
from the field as well.

Though the Mariners have depth
in the outfield the question is
should the Mariners go out and
pick up a center fielder as well.
If so Kelenic move to left field
with an occasion in right field.
The Mariners will have a log jam
though when Julio Rodriguez
joins the team whether out of
spring training or in late April
or in May.

The Mariners will have five
outfielders at that point who
will need playing time. They
will have  Lewis, Rodriguez,
Kelenic, Haniger and the fifth
guy. This would mean someone
would have to sit at this point
in every game. So would the
Mariners have to trade someone
at that point. I guess we could
say that is a good problem to
have.

The World Series will end either
Tuesday or Wednesday night. So
trades can start happening like
three days after the World Series
then free agent signings a few
days later. It will be interesting
to see what trader Jerry Dipoto
will do. In fact Jerry could have
a trade or two already set up
when day one comes to trade.
Look forward to see. Go M's.

I believe the trading deadline
in the NFL ends on Tuesday
so we will see whether the
Seahawks pick up a player or
more. If so we will have it
right here. A good time as
the Seahawks have a bye
week as well. Go Hawks!

Seahawks beat Jaguars big time

Going into Sunday's game it was
hard to know how both teams would
play. The Seahawks were favored
by a field goal. Final Seahawks 31
Jaguars 7.

The game might have been the best
one the Seahawks have played all
season long. The Jaguars didn't
score their touchdown until less
than two minutes remaining.
Exciting part Travis Homer
returned the kick off return
after Jaguars touchdown for
a touchdown as well.

You wonder whether Trevor
Lawrence has an arm left over
after the game. He completed
32 of 54 passes for 238 yards
one touchdown and one interception.
With that many throws it is
amazing Lawrence only had
one interception.

I know the Seahawks haven't had
a strong pass defense but to throw
the ball that many times sounds
crazy.

Geno Smith had his best day
throwing the ball. He was almost
perfect completing 20 of 24 passes
for 195 yards and two touchdowns.
DK Metcalf had the two outstanding
touchdowns. He had only six catches
on the day.  The Jaguars had a hard
time keeping up with Tyler Lockett
who had 12 catches for 142 yards.
The only thing they did right was
keeping Lockett out of the end zone.
Oh yes Geno Smith ran in for a td
as well.

The Seahawks ran the ball about as
even as passing as they had 25 attempts.
Alex Collins led the way with 10
carries for 44 yards. Rashaad Penny
carried the ball seven times however
only had seven yards as well.

The Seahawks have a bye week
next week before taking on the
Green Bay Packers. Go Hawks!

Seattle football

This weekend the Washington Huskies
and the Seattle Seahawks are in need
of a win. In fact, we could say a must
win or both will be out of any playoff
contention. First time in a while for
both at same time.

The Huskies play Stanford  on road
on Saturday night. This is a winnable
game as the Cardinal are a half game
behind the Huskies. The Huskies have
had trouble with winning against the
Cardinal.

Last year the Cardinal beat the Huskies
in Husky field 31-26. The Huskies
actually had to score ten points in the
fourth quarter to have a chance. Also,
the Cardinal ran the ball 191 yards and
had the ball five more minutes than
the Huskies.  The Cardinals were good
on third down making 10 of 13 opportunities.

Things won't get any easier as the Huskies
play the Oregon Ducks and Arizona State
at home. Go Dawgs!

The Seattle Seahawks are at home against
the Jacksonville Jaguars Sunday afternoon.
The Seahawks are 2-5 so a must win too.
Though the Jaguars have one win this is
almost an even game.

It will be interesting to see when Russell
Wilson returns. It could be in another week
or two. If the Seahawks lose on Sunday
they might as well give Russell an extra
week to get ready to play.

Depending on how he does do the Seahawks
give Geno Smith go another week  or go
to backup former Husky Jacob Eason.

For the Seahawks they will need to put
rush on Jaguars quarterback Trevor
Lawrence to stop him. Lawrence had over
three hundred yards against the Miami
Dolphins. The Dolphins likely the worst
team in the NFL this season, however, the
Seahawks linebackers and defensive
secondary will need some help from the
line.

The Seahawks actually have a bye next
week so Russell Wilson might be ready
to go in two weeks in Green Bay against
the Packers. So will the Seahawks still
be in the race or not? Go Hawks!

Second in a row for Kraken

The Seattle Kraken beat the Minnesota
Wild on Thursday night 4-1 for their
second win in a row.

The Kraken scored first in the opening
period on a goal by Haydn Fleury. The
Wild made their only goal of the game
in the first period as well. Fleury made
the second goal to in the second period.

The third period the Kraken played their
best hockey for that period so far on the
season. Great defense shutting down one
of the top offenses in the NHL.

The Kraken scored their two final goals
in the last two minutes as the Wild took
out their goalie. The Kraken will win a
lot of games playing that way on Thursday
night,

The Kraken play at home on Sunday against
the New York Rangers. It will be nice if they
can win three in a row. Go Kraken!
