Day Three of NFL Draft

The Seattle Seahawks end up
with five draft picks on D's three
They ppicked up two cornerbacks,
another linebacker/edge rusher and
finished off with two wide receivers.

Coby Bryant a cornerback from
Cincinnati was picked in the 4th
round. Bryant is considered a
physical corner. In the 5th round
is cornerback Tariq Woolen out of
University Texas of San Antonio.
Woolen is being compared to Richard
Sherman. Both 5th rounders who
switched from wide receiver to
cornerback. Wouldn't be nice to get
a second find.

The second 5th round pick was
Tyreke Smith as edge rusher. He
comes from Ohio State so could
be a find to.

The two seventh round picks are
wide receivers. The chance making
the Seahawks isn't great but never
know. They are Bob Melton out of
Rutgers and Dareke Young from
Lenoir-Rhyne a division two school
out of Hickory, North Carolina. Young
played special teams all four years
which he will have to do if he makes
the Seahawks. Best to all five players.

Cade Otton tight end was the first
Husky to be drafted on day three.
In fact, he was the first player picked
on the day by Tampa Bay. Hadn't
been for injuries last season may
have been drafted earlier.

Luke Wattenberg center was drafted
in the 5th round by Denver Broncos.
Looks like he will be hiking the ball
to Russell Wilson. Being a 5th rounder
likely will be a backup. His versatility
he may play anywhere on the offensive
line. The Huskies had four players
taken in the draft.

When it comes to the Washington
State Cougars the Seahawks drafted
Abe Lucas in the 3rd round. Only other
player from the Cougars picked was
cornerback Jaylen Watson. Any other
Cougars and Huskies will sign as
college free agents.  We will let you
know will sign and where.

Bash Tough Outing

The Seattle Mariners lost their
third game in a row Friday night
8-6.

Rookie Matt Bash had another
tough outing going only two
innings giving up six runs. Bash
will have to see about correcting
things in his next outing or could
be heading to the minor leagues.

If Bash does go to the minors than
we may see George Kirby up to
take his spot. Justus Sheffield
would be the likely one currently
on the major league roster to take
his spot though he hasn't pitched
long in spots.

Mitch Haniger was activated Friday
after two weeks out for covid. Sad news Mitch came down with an ankle
sprain in the second inning coming
out of batter's box. Abraham Toro
had to go in to run for Mitch and take
his spot at dh. We hope Mitch won't
be out too long.

Mariners scored three runs in the
second inning when Luis Torrens
hit a double to drive in all runners
with the bases loaded bases.
Mariners scored three more runs in
the 9th inning but wasn't enough.

Robbie Ray goes Saturday followed
by Logan Gilbert on Sunday. The
Mariners have a good chance to take
the series.

Next post will be later Saturday after
Seahawks picks for round four thru
seven. Also, the Huskies have their
spring game today as well.

Seahawks Take Second Day

The Seahawks  took a linebacker  and a
running back  in the second round followed
by another tackle who is  local.

University  of Minnesota  linebacker Boye
Mafe was selected  as #41 overall in the
second round by the Seahawks.  Though
listed as a  linebacker he may play at
defensive end. The change  of Seahawks
defense they may  use four linebackers
and three on the line. At times  the
Seahawks  will  go with three linebackers
and four on the line. See what Mafe will
workout at.

At  number 41 the Seahawks took running
back Ken Walker 3 out of  Michigan State.
This adds depth at the position. Chris
Carson and Rashaad Penny are expected
to be number 1 and 2, however,  if Carson
can't return after being out with a neck
injury last season  Walker will step in.
The Seahawks have Deejay Dallas and
Alex Collins as well.

The 72 overall pick in the third round
th Seahawks picked offensive tackle
Abe Lucas from Washington State
Cougars. Lucas could start on the
right side tackle and be backup at
left tackle behind first round pick
Charles Cross.

Saturday the Seahawks will have
four more picks. One
in the fourth round,  two in the fifth
and one in the seventh.  See if
they change things up.Will they
add a cornerback?

Washington Huskies  Kyler Gordon
was drafted early in the second
round by the Chicago Bears. He was
taken just before the  Seahawks two
picks. We will see  who else from
Huskies and Cougars are drafted to.

Seahawks Make Their Choice

The Seattle Seahawks made their choice in the first
round. Obviously, the Seahawks new who they wanted
since they did not trade down.

They drafted offensive lineman Charles Cross out
of Mississippi State. His head coach is former
Washington State coach Mike Leach.

Cross is considered the top pass blocker in the
draft. The Seahawks obviously will run the ball
but having a run blocker is good to. We know the
experience Russell Wilson has had running around
with the offensive line they have.

Cross played left tackle at Mississippi State. Whether
he plays there or not the Seahawks do need a left
tackle. I am sure that is why they picked him.

It is ironic the Seahawks selected the pick they
got from the Broncos or Russell Wilson since he
has voiced concerns about the offensive line.  Does
this mean Duane Brown won't be back either.

The Kansas City Chiefs made a trade with the
New England Patriots to move up to #21 in the
first round. Chiefs selected Washington Huskies
Trent McDuffie at cornerback. No doubt he will
start for the Chiefs since they moved up with the
trade.

Friday we will report whether another cornerback
Kyler Gordon goes in the first round or moves
down. Go Huskies!

Mariners No Offense again

Other than  seven runs in one inning
in game one.  The Mariners  only
scored one run for the second game
in a row.  The Rays took the series.

We hope the Mariners  can come
alive again in Miami. The  Mariners
had six hits on the day. The one run
had the one run in the first inning.
Eugenio Suarez  had a  triple to
drive in Adam  Frazier.  The Mariners
had other opportunities  but couldn't
produce.

Chris Flexen  was able to  go for six
and  two-thirds  innings giving up the
two runs. Not fair  for  Flexen as it
was his third loss on the day. Diego
Castillo and Anthony Misiewicz went
two-thirds of an inning each.

Catcher Cal Raleigh  who has struggled
at the plate was sent down to triple-A
along with  Yohan Ramirez.  Why Ramirez
was sent  down to  have rested relievers.

Penn Murfee who was sent down the
day before took one of the spots along
with fellow reliever Wyatt Mills.  Murfee
was sent down when Paul Sewald was
activated off the covid-19 list. These two
could be  on the roster for  two days when
the roster go down to  26.

Mitch Haniger  who is with the  team should
come off the covid-19  list soon to. The
Mariners  bullpen  will have other moves to.

The NFL draft  is on right now see who the
Seahawks will pick at 9 or the pick moved.
We will see what Huskies and Cougars are
taken to.

Mariners Lose After Loss of Gonzales

The Seattle Mariners lost a tough
game when Marco Gonzales was
hit in the wrist with one out in the
first inning. The Rays scored a
runner from third on the play as well.
Hard to know how the game would
have played out if the play hadn't
happen.

News came out after the game that
the x-rays came out negative. This
means Marco may not miss a start.

Yohan Ramirez pitched three innings
giving up a couple runs. The rest of
the bullpen did a fine job. The Mariners
used four relievers. After a day off
on Monday the rest of the bullpen
will be available. Chris Flexen starts
the game which begins in the morning
Seattle time.

The Mariners were not able to score
any runs off of Tampa's starting pitcher
Drew Rasmussen a native of Puyallup
Washington. The Mariners could not
handle Rasmussen's off-speed pitches
in his six innings. The Mariners only
had two hits off Rasmussen and he
struck out nine Mariners.

The Mariners were in the game through
out. They lost 3-2 with having a home
run by Crawford in the 7th and Abraham
Toro in the 9th. The Mariners used three
pinch hitters in the 8th inning. I can
understand using two possibly but three
not at all. All three made outs and the
success rate for pinch hitters isn't great.

We can now see whether the Mariners
can take the series than go onto Miami.
Matt Bash, Robbie Ray and Logan
Gilbert are scheduled to start
those games. We hope for a series
win there to. Go M's.

Logan Gilbert Almost Great Again

Logan Gilbert had another good
outing Tuesday evening against
the Rays. Gilbert went 5 and 2/3
innings going over one hundred
pitches. He gave up only two hits while walking five which is too high number.
Look to see Logan to improve in
each game. I want to see him great
at some point.

The Mariners won 8-4. The Mariners scored seven runs in the 4th inning which were all unearned because of a Ray miscue around second base.

The Mariners had ten hits led by
Eugenio Suarez and JP Crawford
both with two. Julio Rodriguez had
a hit raising his average to .200.
A very good sign.

Marco Gonzales goes Wednesday. Nice to see improvement for Marco.
Go M's.

Thursday the Mariners have a day
game. May have two posts since
the NFL draft will happen though
second in the evening.

Ty France and Mariners

As the Mariners  take on the Tampa Bay
Rays Tuesday  evening the talk has to do
with Ty France. He was last weeks player
of the week.

Every  publication and website in the Seattle
is writing about Ty. I  might as well  mention
him to.

Ty is hitting  .375 on the season so far. His
Mariners  career he is at .300. Ty has become
such a good fielder at first base he doesn't
have to dh. Abraham Toro  has become the
guy to  play multiple positions. I  am  sure
things may change if Evan White returns and
is able to  hit major league pitching. He does
than we could  see France at dh on occasion.
White can play some outfield as well.  The
Mariners have  Kyle Lewis  that can be added
to the mix as well.

Ty France  reminds me a lot of Edgar Martinez.
He can hit the other way with power. It would
be nice seeing  Ty  in a Mariners uniform as long
as Edgar.

Logan  Gilbert  goes Tuesday so see he can do
what he has so far. If so the Mariners have a
good chance in winning.  Mitch Haniger and
Paul Sewald are with the team so the Mariners
could be in  better shape. Go M's.

Mariners Sweep Royals

The Seattle Mariners didn't make
it easy on themselves but did win
Sunday afternoon 5-4 in 12 innings.
They ended up leaving 24 runners
on base.

Jesse Winker was the hitting star
though he only had one hit which
won the game  in the 12th. Winker
has hit the ball hard on many occasions in this first month of
the season. This hit was a dinner
in front of the right fielder. Winker
had a sacrifice fly in the 10th to
tie the score.

Julio Rodriguez had one hit on
the day, however, it raised his
average to .196. Maybe on the
upcoming road trip Julio will
rise above .200 and the Mendoza
line.

Ty France continued his hot hitting
having three more on the day including
a home run in the first inning.  His
average is at .375. JP Crawford added
two more hits as well now with a .352
average.

On the other spectrum Winker and Kelenic are batting .154. Cal Raleigh
struggling at the plate .091. Right
now Murphy who is hitting well and
Raleigh will share the catching duties.
Not sure when Luis Torrens be back
from covid injured list. Wonder if all
the guys including manager Scott
Servais will stay in Seattle at the
beginning of this coming road trip.

Robbie Ray was able to go six innings
giving up two runs on five hits, one
walk and five strike outs. His next start
will be on the second leg of the road trip in Miami.  Matt Festa rebounded
going one inning walking a batter.
Festa will have to do well this week
to stay on the roster on.May 1. The
same for Matt Koch who pitched the
11th and Yohan Ramirez the 12th.

The Mariners have Monday off as
they travel to Tampa Bay to take
on the Rays. The Mariners are now
10-6 and a game ahead of the Angels.
The Rays are 9-7 a game behind Yankees and Blue Jàys. Go M's

Mariners Bury Royals.

It took the Mariners until the
eighth inning when the Mariners
buried the Royals scoring six
runs to win 13-6.

Ty France had a three run homer
to finish off the Royals. It was
France 5th hit of the day. Julio Rodriguez had an important walk
keeping the inning going loading
the bases. After a Kelenic out
Jesse Winker pinch hit for Dylan
Moore who had started in left.
Winker hit a double to drive in
two runs before France homer.

Matt Bash pitched another so so
game going 4 and 1/3 innings giving up three runs. This put the Royals within one run. The Mariners scored
a run in the bottom of the sixth to
take a two run lead however the
Royals scored three to take the
lead. The Mariners tied it in the
seventh.

Yohan Ramirez struggled giving
up the three runs. Diego Castillo
pitched well in the 8th. Drew
Steckenrider would have pitched
the 9th but with the big lead Matt
Koch did instead. He got all three
he faced.

It will be important for the bottom
of the bullpen do a better job since
when May happens two pitchers
will be dropped from the roster
since they go from 28 to 26. Also,
Ken Giles maybe back so could be
three. Actually four since Paul
Sewald should be back from covid
list as well.

The bullpen then should be made up
of Sewald, Giles, Andre Munoz, Castillo,
Drew Steckenrider, and Anthony Misiewicz for sure. Leaves two other
spots most likely Eriq Swanson for the seventh. Sergio Romo should be off
the injured list to making it eight.
Matt Festa who made the opening roster primarily being the first out of
the bullpen has struggled so he might
not make it depending on the week
coming up. The same with Justus
Sheffield who has done an OK job.
A lot will depend whether the Mariners
want to go with two lefties out of
the bullpen.

The Mariners haven't had to use a
long reliever for the most part
because the starters have been
going six innings or longer and
with ten relievers. Swanson be
the likely one to go at least two
innings and Sheffield if he is still
on the roster. Right now Bash
is the only one to be taken out
early like Saturday night unless
one of the others has a bad outing.
The depth of the bullpen the Mariners
can go three relievers if not four when necessary. Go M's.

Mariners Rebound Friday Night

The Seattle Mariners beat the
Kansas City Royals Friday night
4-1. No scoring happened until
the fourth inning when Julio
Rodriguez drove in two runs
with a double. Jarred Kelenic drove
in two runs with a triple to cap the
inning.

The lone run by the Royals was a home run by Salvador Perez. He loves hitting in Seattle. Chris Flexen went seven
innings for his best outing so far this
year. Gave up six hits, no walks and
struck out five. He is in his second year
of his contract. Be interesting if the
Mariners give him sa new contract.
Hard to know with more young pitching
on the way.

Speaking of young pitching Matt Brash
will start Saturday night. Be exciting
to see him pitch again. Go.M's

Mariners Blow Lead

The Seattle Mariners got off to a
good  lead scoring five runs in the
first inning. Ty France hit a two-run
homer on the first pitch after Adam
Frazier  was hit with a pitch. JP
Crawford hit a three-run homer.

It was down from there on. Crawford
had a poor game in the field with two
errors.  Marco Gonzales went four and
two-thirds innings giving up six runs
with two  being earned.

The Mariners  offense sputtered until
the 8th inning when Eugenio Suarez
was able to  tie the game. Unfortunately
Drew Steckenrider struggled after getting
the first two batters out. He gave up two
runs and that was the ball  game.

The Mariners  now take on the Kansas City
Royals in a three-game series.  Be nice if
the Mariners can two out of three games
at least making it a good home stand.

Chris  Flexen  will start Friday night followed
by Matt Brash and Robbie Ray.

Seahawks Thursday

The NFL draft begins with the
first round next Thursday. Currently
the Seahawks have eight picks
in this draft. The only round they
don't have yet is the sixth round.

The Seahawks have the ninth pick in the first which they got in the trade for
Russell Wilson. The Seahawks are
known for trading down in the first
round which could happen in this
draft. This come down to whether
they think the player they want will
still be available.

The ninth pick likely be an edge rusher
or corner back. The could go for offensive tackle to.

The Seahawks have two picks in.the
second round. They could pick edge rusher and corner back there to.
The third round they could draft a
quarterback like they did when select
Russell Wilson. They could to trade a
pick for a veteran quarterback too

The Seahawks have one pick in the
fourth round, two in the 5th round and
one in.the seventh. Be interesting
to see where they go in.these picks.
Depends how much death they
want to add. Stay tuned.

Logan Gilbert and More

The Seattle  Mariners  beat the  Rangers
Wednesday  night 4-2   behind the good
pitching of Logan Gilbert.  It was his first
outing of the season  at home. We are
looking at the second ace for the Mariners
behind Robbie Ray.

Gilbert went into  the  7th inning getting
two  outs before  being relieved. Gilbert
had two outs without giving up a run.
The Rangers had  six hits against him
and struck  out four. Had no walks either.
Gilbert  leads the Mariners with an era of
0.54.

Adam Frazier  continues to  be  on fire at
the plate with three more hits. He has raised
his average  up to .294. Frazier  playing like
an all-star right now. What a great pickup
by the Mariners.

News came out  before the  game that manager
Scott Servais, third base coach Manny Acta and
reliever Paul Sewald  were out for covid symptoms.
How long any or all three  don't know.

First base coach Negron acted as manager.  He was
the manager of the  Tacoma Rainiers last season.
Seattle legend Dan Wilson was in the dugout to help
out as well.  See what happens  in the days ahead.
According to  Servais,  Mitch Haniger should be back
soon. Go M's.

Mariners Beat Rangers Tuesday

The Mariners  beat the Rangers 6-2. All six
runs came about home runs.  Eugenio Suarez
had a three- run homer in the first  inning.
Jarred Kelenic  had  a  solo home run in the
second inning. Abraham  Toro  had a two-run
homer in the 7th inning.

The Rangers scored their  two runs on a double
and walk by centerfielder Eli White. Marcus
Semien drove him home in both cases.

Robbie Ray  went six innings for the Mariners
notching his second win against one loss.
He gave up four hits along with one walk and
four strike outs.

The bullpen  continues  to  do a stellar job.
Steckenrider  gave up a hit in one inning.
Paul Sewald  didn't  give up  a hit in his one
inning.  Both haven't given up a run  yet.
Diego Castillo  pitched the 9th giving up
a hit and one strike out.  Castillo has an
era of 1.80.

The Mariners  are at two catchers  now as
Luis Torrens  went on covid IL. Not sure
how long he will be out. First baseman Mike
Ford was recalled from Tacoma.  Not sure
how long Torrens will be out or when Mitch
Haniger will go.

Logan Gilbert  will  be pitching  Wednesday
night for the Mariners.  I  expect Cal Raleigh
will catch as Murphy caught on Tuesday.
I hope Raleigh  will  catch more frequently.
Go M's.

Look at Seattle Mariners minor league teams

The Seattle Mariners have Monday off. The Tacoma Rainier's the teams triple A team has gotten off to a rough start
in losing four straight games.

The Rainier's have a 4-8 record after
beating Albuquerque on Sunday on
the road 12-11. The Rainier's are at
the bottom of PCL West division.
This was after winning it last year.

Mike Ford the Mariners reacquired
during spring training is leading the
team in hitting at .318. Catcher Joe
Odom leads with 4 home runs and 6
RBIs. Also hitting .280.

The Rainier's starting pitching hasn't
done well having the eight losses
without a win. The Mariners bring
up a starter likely won't come from
Tacoma. Penn Murfee and Wyatt
Mills is doing the  best out of bullpen.
Murfee has two wins without a loss
and no earned runs. Mills is 1-0
and has era of 3.00. The Rainier's
play next six games in Sugar Land
Texas.

The Mariners double A team Arkansas Travelers are 5 and 4 in the Texas
League. Second in the division. George
Kirby likely to be called up this season
is 1-0 in two starts having 13 strike
outs in 11 and 1/3 innings. Has only
one walk and giving up a home run.
Five hits and 1.59 era.

Outfielder Zach DeLoach has gotten
off to a hot start. Could see him in
Tacoma or Seattle this season is
batting .407 in seven games. Has one
home run and five RBIs. Has struck
out 11 times as well as 11 hits.

Everett Agua Sox high A team is 3-5.
Most common pitcher on the squad
is Isaiah Campbell has a 1-0 record
with era of .90 in two starts. In ten
innings has given up five hits, five
walks and 10 strike outs.

In the position department shortstop
Noelvi is leading the team hitting
.286 with 2 home runs and 5 RBIs.
Outfielder Alberto Rodriguez is
hitting .276 with no home runs yet
and one RBI.

We will look at these teams again
in May.

Brash 1st MLB Win Mariners Take Series

Matt Bash had his first major league win on.Sunday for the Mariners.

Bash had a no hitter going into the sixth inning. He didn't have the control
He had in his first game. Bash walked
six while striking out five. The Astros got their first hit by Jose Altuve in
the sixth inning then Michael  Brantley
hit a home run. The Mariners were
leading 6-0. Bash left the game with
one out to a standing ovation.

The Mariners scored in the first inning with a run. Broke open in the 4th include a three-run homer by Ty France.
Julio Rodriguez drove in his first run
in the majors too.

Mariners take Monday off before
facing the Texas Rangers.

Verlander Shuts Out Mariners

The Seattle Mariners were shut
out Saturday night 4-0 by Justin
Verlander and the Houston Astros.

Not a big surprise since Verlander
has had a lot of success against
the Mariners as well as other teams.

Verlander was able to go eight innings
giving up only three hits with eight
strike outs and not walking a batter.

Chris Flexen pitched a pretty good
game for the Mariners though wasn't
a match for Verlander. Flexen gave
up a run in the second inning followed
by two more in the fifth inning. He
went six innings all total giving up
five hits, one walk and three strike
outs. We wish better results in Flexen' s
next outing.

Matt Bash makes his second outing
on Easter Sunday afternoon. Bash
pitches anything like he did in his
first outing and the Mariners bats
come alive the Mariners have a good
chance to take series.

The Mariners will have Monday off.
The Mariners will have a three game
series against the Texas Rangers
followed by Kansas City Royals next
week. They will go on the road to
Tampa Ray to start  three cities to
end the month of April.

Need came out Mitch Haniger went
on the Covid injury list. Not sure when
he will return. Infielder Donavon Walton
takes his spot. So the outfield will
primarily be Jesse Winker in left, Julio
Rodriguez in center and Jarred Kelenic
in right. Might see Dylan Moore and
Abraham Toro in the outfield. Go M's

Mariners Win Big Home Opener

The Mariners gave the sellout
crowd something to cheer about
in home opener Friday night.
The Mariners beat the Houston
Astros 11-1. Not a better to beat
I am sure we would all agree.

Marco Gonzales pitched much
better than his season opener
which actually not to do. Marco
went seven innings giving up
four hits, one run, no walks and
striking out six. The Astros one
run of the game was in the 7th
inning and the Astros scored on
a broken bat hit. The Mariners
up 6-0 at the time. They scored
three more runs in the bottom
of the seventh followed by two
more in the eighth to put no doubt
who wins.

Yohan Ramirez pitched an inning
without giving up a hit. Matt Koch
made his Mariner debut by giving
up one hit and striking out one.
Nice to do without pressure.

Adam Frazier was the offensive
player in his home debut having
four hits, scoring twice with first
one in the first inning. Frazier
drove in four runs. Like to see a
lot if that from him. He has now
nine games in his career having
four hits. Had a rough start now
average at .229.

Most the Mariners still have low
 batting averages so need improve
in that area. See how Rodriguez
and Kelenic will do. Rodriguez had
a hit and scoring a run.Kelenic
had no hits but did drive in a run.
At least the bottom of the batting
order should be an improvement
over last year though averages
don't indicate yet.

Chris Flexen goes Saturday night
for the Mariners. He will need to
pitch well like he did early on in
his first start since Justin Verlander.
Go.M's!

Gilbert and Mariners End Losing Streak

Logan Gilbert looking like the
2nd pitcher in the rotation. Logan
only went five innings giving up
four hits, no walks, four strike outs
and an unearned run.

It is amazing since Gilbert had a
short time in the minors including
2020 where there was no season.
How well would he be doing if
there had been a minor season.

Another question how much better
would Jarred Kelenic, Cal Raleigh
and Julio Rodriguez be if they had
another season under their belt.
Also, Matt Bash before the Mariners
acquired him from the San Diego
Padres.

The Mariners won 5-1. Kelenic had a
two- run homer in the second inning.
The first of the sesson and Raleigh
as well in the seventh. Mitch Haniger
wrapped up in the eighth with a two- run homer his third of season.

The Mariners recalled pitcher Matt
Koch from Tacoma. He replaces
veteran reliever  Sergio Romo who
was placed on injured list for inflammation to his right shoulder.

In other sports the Seahawks signed
veteran quarterback Geno Smith to
a free agent contract. Smith who
started when Russell Wilson was
hurt.

Terrible Game To Lose

Both teams wanted to get the
game in on Wednesday night
so wouldn't have to play a
double header on Thursday
afternoon.

The weather conditions certainly
didn't work out for the Seattle
Mariners in the second inning.
With a downpour the White Sox
were able to score four runs to
put them up 4-1. The condition
of the field wasn't good with
White Sox up to bat. Robbie Ray
had a hard time gripping the ball.
I thought the game should have
been stopped for a few minutes.
In my opinion the Sox had the
advantage.

It was remarkable the groundskeeper
was able to get the field back in
good could condition before the top
of the third.  The Mariners were able
make it a game scoring two runs in
the 5th inning. JP Crawford hit a double driving in Suarez and then
he scored to.

Ray was able to go into the 7th inning however gave up to runs before being
lifted. Matt Festa came in to finish the 7th followed by Yohan Ramirez in the
8th. The Mariners scored a run in the
9th but not enough losing 6-4.

Hopefully they will be able to get in
Thursday game with Logan Gilbert
going. Go M's

Lack of Support

The Seattle Mariners lost their
third game in a row after a two
win start. The offense was able
to muster seven hits but scoring
only two runs in a 3-2 loss in the
opening game to the Chicago
White Sox.

Eugenio Suarez was the hitting
hero hitting a home run in the
second inning putting the Mariners
up 1-0.  White Sox tied the game
in the 3rd inning.

Matt Brash pitched well in his
major league debut. He deserved
a better result. He gave up four hits,
walked one, struck.out six, two runs
in five and a third innings. Pitching
the way he did Brash is going to win
a lot of games.

Outside of Ty France and JP Crawford
who each had a hit the rest of the
hitters haven't done well though Mitch
Haniger had two home runs in the
two wins against the Twins.

Often the Mariners get off to a slow
start hitting. The pitchers seem to
start the season better. Outside of
Marco Gonzales the Mariner pitchers
have their pitch count up high. You
look at the other teams including the
Twins and White Sox their starters
haven't gone as long. This certainly
help the Mariners bullpen.

Robbie Ray makes his second start
Wednesday. Pitches like in the opener
then the Mariners have a good shot
to end three game losing streak.
Go M's.

Mariners Lose Tuesday on to Chicago

After winning the two opening games
the  Mariners  now have lost the last two.

Tuesday Chris Flexen  gave up one run
in the first inning then three  more in the
5th inning. Misiewicz gave up a run in
two-thirds of an inning. Romo, Swanson
and Munoz didn't give up any runs over
three innings.  Unfortunately the Mariners
were shutout getting   only  two hits by
Suarez and Crawford. We hope the bats
 can come alive in  Chicago.

The  Mariners  are tied for second place
with Oakland A's. Matt Brash will make
his major league debut today against
the White Sox. Brash pitches like he did
in spring training then the Mariners will
have a good  chance to  win. He only
gave up one run in 18 innings. Go M's

Flexen On Monday

The Seattle Mariners to see they
can win the four game series
before heading to Chicago.

Chris Flexen will take the mound.
He pitches anything like last season
then the Mariners have a good shot.
It will be good if Flexen can go six
innings. The bullpen has all been
used but don't want to used them
too much this early on the season.

The Mariners need the bats to come
alive early on in the game. Flexen will
be able to relax that way.  The top of the batting order get several hits. Adam Frazier had a couple hits on Sunday so getting on as the leadoff
batter would be good. Right now Mitch
Haniger is hot so getting the batters
ahead of him allow at least a couple runs.

Bad Out For Gonzales

Marco Gonzales didn't go well
in his first outing like Ray and
Gilbert. Reminds of last season
when he got off to a terrible
start and missed a month.
Hopefully not the same this time
around.

Gonzales went only two innings
giving up six runs. This meant
more for the bullpen. Matt Festa
who missed some time for the Mariners came in and gave up
two runs and so did Yohan Ramirez.
In between those two Eriq Swanson and Justus Sheffield gave up no
runs in.  The final score was Twins
10 Mariners 4.

Mitch Haniger hit a three run homer in the third along with additional one
to make an interesting game and a
chance temporarily for the Mariners
to win. Haniger and Adam Frazier
each had two hits in the game.

Luis Torrens caught making the
first time for the Mariners in
history to have three different
catchers to start the first three
games in a season. I expect this
won't happen often during the
season. We should see Raleigh
in the final game against the
Twins. Might see Murphy behind
the plate in Bash first start in
Chicago or go with Raleigh.
Home opener either one likely
instead of Torrens for Gonzales.

Expect other changes in Monday's
game. Julio didnt get a hit Sunday
so might dh instead. The batting
order still a work in progress.

Mariners Take Game 2

The Mariners  had another  tight game
Saturday  afternoon  in Minnesota
beating  the Twins 4-3.

Logan Gilbert  pitched a good  game
going five innings  only giving up one
run on three hits while walking  one
and striking  out  seven. Leaving the
game the Mariners  were up by one
2-1. Tom Murphy  hit a home run in
the 5th. The relievers  did a good job
until the 8th inning when Andrés Munoz
gave up a two run homer putting the
Twins up by one.

The Mariners  did what they did a lot
last season coming back to win in the
top of  the  9th. Julio Rodriguez led off
with his first major league hit with a
double to left centerfield. Adam Frazier
with his first hit a double as well drove
in Julio. The Mariners were fired up tying
the game. Ty France  hit in Frazier to take
the lead. France was the hitter of the game
having three hits.

Diego Castillo pitched the 9th inning throwing
only sliders to get all three outs to record the
save. According to Servais Castillo had a great
spring.

Sunday  Marco Gonzales starts and see the
Mariners  win the series. It could be another
tight game. The importance is to win. Go M's.

Mariners Wins Season Opener

The Seattle  Mariners  beat Minnesota Twins
2-1  in the first game of the season.

There is not a lot to  take from the first game
except Robbie  Ray pitched well  and will  win
a lot of games that way. Ray threw 70 percent
fast balls, however,  went to  his breaking
pitches when needed.

Cal Raleigh   caught the game and did a
great job behind the plate.  He blocked
a lot of pitches in the ground  which is
a good  thing. He looked like he will be
catching a lot when right handers are
pitching for the other team.. Mike
Blowers said on the  post game show
on the radio Raleigh  got a hit though only
roller he was able to get it out of the way
and relax.

Saturday  Sunny Gray will  start for the
Twins another right hander so likely
will see Raleigh behind the plate. Actually
the Mariners  will  face four righthanders
in the series so should see Murphy in at
least one game. We will  see who it might
be against.

Logan Gilbert  will face the Twins on
Saturday  followed by Marco Gonzales
on Sunday. Chris Flexen will finish the
series on Monday.  The Mariners  will
face the  White Sox for three games
before heading home for the home
opener next Friday.

Jarred Kelenic and Julio Rodriguez
neither had a hit in the games Julio
said he will be  alright. Jesse Winker
was the only hitter with two hits and
he made the final out of the game
catching the ball at the fence like
it was no big deal.

The Mariners  did leave a lot of runners
on base,  however,  we should not see
a lot of  this season this year. The Mariners
should  see a different lineup on Saturday
as Manager Scott Servais  mentioned a
couple days ago.  Though he wasn't in
Friday's lineup  we should  see Abraham
Toro in the lineup somewhere Saturday
since he was the hottest hitter in spring
training and don't want him to  go cold. Go M's.

Opening Day For Mariners and Twins.

It finally happened today is
opening day. Expected  to be
sunshine in Minneapolis after
snow on Thursday postponing
the game.

Robbie Ray will go for the Mariners
facing rookie Joe Ryan. Ryan is a
right hander so I wonder if Cal Raleigh
will start instead of Tom Murphy.
I am sure you now I feel on the issue.

The rest of the lineup should be the
same with Ty France at first, Adam
Frazier second base, JP Crawford at
short, and Eugenio Suarez at third.
Jarred Kelenic in left, Julio Rodriguez
in center and Mitch Haniger in right.
Jesse Winker expected to be the dh.
Scott Servais says game two will look
different.

News out JP Crawford signing a new
deal 5 years for $51 million. Be
around for several more years.

Also, injury report from the Rainier's
Taylor Trammel was hurt. Don't know
his status. Keep you up to date.
Go M's.

Rainier Baseball and More

Since the Seattle Mariners  are  not
playing season opener  until Friday
we will  look at the Tacoma Rainiers
and other sports.

We will look to see how the Mariners
minor leaguers are doing g throughout
the season.  The Rainiers  have played
two games so far against Salt Lake at
home. They won the opener Tuesday
4-2 and lost Wednesday 9-5.

Taylor Trammell a familiar face to
Mariner fans starting last season
for the Mariners  hit a double in the
opener while getting  his first home
run of the season  Wednesday night.
Like last season all series are six games.
They will have  Monday's off for traveling.

In the opener  Josh Morgan Rainiers
catcher had his first career home run.
Darren McCaughan who pitched a
couple times late last season for the
Mariners was the Rainiers  starter. He
pitched five and two-thirds innings
giving up the two runs on seven hits.
Darren walked two while striking out
nine. Not bad for first start of season.

The rest of the minor league teams of
the Mariners start their season on Friday.

Football wise Seahawks general manager
John Schneider says they won't trade star
receiver DK Metcalf.  Of course,  we have
heard that one before.  We will see what
may happen before the NFL draft on April
28.

The Washington Huskies have snatched a
couple players in the transfer portal. A
Wide receiver/running back Will Nixon from
Nebraska.  It is important a running back
in the new Huskies system can catch the
ball too. Be interesting to see how much
Nixon will play. The other is running back
Wayne Taulapapa from Virginia. Spring
camp the Huskies are limited with Richard
Newton still out with injury and Cameron
Davis as well Both expected high on the
running back  depth chart. Go Dawgs!

Mariners Opener Postponed

The Seattle  Mariners  season opener
won't happen  until  Friday at this point.
Thursday the weather  is  expecting
snow and rain mixed.

Why the Minnesota Twins  don't have
a roof on their  stadium is a good
question  or the very least start the
season  on the road.  With the lockout
and season starting a week later major
league  baseball  could have changed
the schedule  where the series be in
Seattle and the later series be in
Minnesota.

The series in Minnesota will now be
Friday thru Monday  followed by
three in Chicago against the White Sox.
Would not surprise me if they have to
play at least one double header in
Minnesota as well as Chicago.

The Mariners  did make moves where
pitcher Wyatt Mills was optioned to
Tacoma while pitcher Devin Sweet
along with veteran outfielders Billy
Hamilton and Steven Souza Jr. were
reassigned to minor league camp.
Whether Hamilton or Souza will
play in minors is a big question.  Be
good if they could since be among
the first call ups in case of injury.

Had Julio Rodriguez not had an
outstanding camp along with the
Mariners going  with 10 relievers
either or both Hamilton and Souza
be on the team.

Thursday we will look at  other sports
going on  in the area. Thanks for checking
in and let your friends know. 😊😊😊

Last Day of Spring Training

The Seattle  Mariners  have this done.
Spring  training  coming to the end.
Real baseball  starts on Thursday in
Minnesota. At least  we hope so.
They have opening on Friday  so if
the weather isn't kind they can move
the opener to Friday.

As already  mentioned  Julio  Rodriguez
will be the opening day center fielder.
Also, the Mariners  are going with three
catchers.  Expect Tom Murphy to play
against lefty pitching to start the season
with Cal Raleigh against  righties. Could
change depending  on  how either is
hitting.  May see Luis Torrens catching
on occasion as well  especially if Murphy
isn't able to hit lefties.

The bullpen  likely  be ten. Any more news
will come out Tuesday.

Those who  are Seattle Seahawks fans to
tired of hearing already about them trading
DK Metcalf.  I certainly am. It is baseball so
I don't  want to  hear much football until
August.  The draft does begin on April 28th.
See what the Seahawks come up with in
the first round.

Its Official Julio Rodriguez A Mariner

Monday morning the Mariners made
it official Julio.Rodriguez has made
the team.

Likely Julio will start in center field. This means Jarredd Kelenic will play
left field with an occasion in right or
center. Jesse Winkler will dh some
well as left field. See what happens
when Kyle Lewis gets back.

The Mariners will probably have Abraham Toro and or Dylan Moore
in left field against lefties. A lot
depends on the hitting of Winkler
and Kelenic. I won't be surprised
Moore at third late in games depend
on Suarez defense and the score
in the game at the time. Torrens
will play first base on occasion and
dh against lefties. He might catch
on occasion too. 😊😊😊

Mariners With Power On Sunday

The Seattle Mariners beat the
Kansas City Royals Sunday
10-8. As you can imagine
not good pitching.

The Mariners had five home
runs in the game by present
or future player. Luis Torrens
had the first one in the 4th
inning followed by Julio Rodriguez
in the 5th. Rodriguez had three
hits on the day. I would say
welcome to Seattle Julio.
Also, Jarred Kelenic, Dylan Moore
and future Mariner maybe Gabriel
Gonzalez. By the way Gonzalez is
only 18.

Logan Gilbert made his final tuneup
for the season. As you can imagine
he pitched so so going three and one-
third innings. He will pitch game 2 in
Minnesota next Saturday. Marco
Gonzales goes Monday in.his final
tuneup. Tuesday will be the final
game of spring. Roster spots for
opening day should know no later
then Tuesday. Go M's.

Kyle Lewis Ready To Play Ball

Kyle Lewis won't start the season for the
Mariners, however, he is ready to get some
at bats which he will do for a minor league
team. Not sure which team as of yet.

How long he will be down in the minors
won't be sure of it yet. It will be considered
rehab assignment though. He will be dh
for most of the period. He could play the
outfield near the end of rehab or wait
until he is on the Mariners.

The Mariners likely going with four
outfielders to start the season with
six infielders and three catchers most
likely. Toro and Dylan Moore will
have opportunity to play some outfield
as well. Moore is on the team to give
JP Crawford a day off on occasion and
playing defense in the outfield. Toro
will give Frazier a day off at second,
Suarez at third and possibly France
at first though Torrens might play
first on occasion.

If Raleigh is on the roster than they
will split up the catching duties. I
would like Raliegh to catch at least
three times a week. A lot will depend
on whom the Mariners are facing.
Murphy doesn't hit righthanders
well so he most likely faces the
lefties.

It does look like Rodriguez will
be with the Mariners. The answer
should happen Sunday as the
Rainiers season starts on Tuesday
at home. Any players not making
the opening roster and going to
Tacoma should have on Sunday.

The Mariners will likely go with
ten relievers to start the season.
The rosters will have to go to
26 on May 1 so the Mariners
will have to take off two relievers
off the roster. Ken Giles will
likely return before May so
someone will have to go down
at that point. Go M's.

Fifth Starter Nailed Down

The Mariners  likely  have their 5th
starter in Matt Brash. Friday night
Brash had another  outstanding
outing going four and one-thirds
innings.  Gave up two hits with
one being a home run. He walked
one while striking out five. The
one run was his first of the spring.

George  Kirby  competing for the
fifth spot to went three innings
without giving up a run. Kirby
gave up  one hit, no walks and
struck out three. The thought is
he will be the opening  day starter
on Tuesday  for the Tacoma Rainiers.

With the Rainiers  season starting on
Tuesday the Mariners  cuts will likely
happen  over this weekend. When these
cuts happen we will  know whether Julio
Rodriguez be on the team or  not.  I am
sure we all agree he should be.

News came out on Friday that reliever
Ken Giles  hurt a finger and he will be
out for at least a month. This might
mean the Mariners may only carry nine
relievers instead of ten. On the other
hand Jerry Dipoto  may feel it be more
important to  have ten. If so who would
that be?

Robby Ray  makes his final start of spring.
He will  be the opening starter on Thursday
against the Twins. Cal Raleigh had a hit
on Friday.  The question  is will  he still be
on the  team when season starts or sent
to triple-A. He has caught Ray in his previous
starts so Saturday night who will catch Ray
on Thursday will be answered. Other words
who catches Ray Saturday night  will be the
starting  catcher. Go M's!

Mariners Six Days To Go

No joke the Seattle Mariners begin
regular season. Always  like spring
because it  is time for baseball.  Of
course at the beginning of March
we weren't  sure  of it.

The Mariners  don't have  many
questions for the end of the roster.
The first month they will go with
28 players.

The questions will they go with
9 or 10 relievers, 4 or 5 outfielders,
and three catchers. They go with
three catchers they could go with
either 9 relievers or 4 outfielders.

Three catchers means Tom Murphy,
Luis Torrens and Cal Raleigh. Most
likely Raleigh  be going to  Tacoma
if they go to Tacoma.

Four outfielders does that mean
Julio Rodriguez  goes to Tacoma
or Billy  Hamilton. Listed as infielders
Abraham Toro and Dylan Moore
will play outfield on occasion to.

The bullpen is pretty  much  set as
well. Does Wyatt Mills  on the roster
or starts the  season in Tacoma?

News on Thursday  regarding the
NFL  former Seahawk Bobby Wagner
signed a five year  deal the Rams.
Five years doesn't  mean a lot since
contracts. The best to Wagner except
when playing the  Seahawks.

The Huskies  have  spring camp
 underway. It began on Wednesday.
They are a bit short on running backs
because of injuries.  Hopefully the
guys will  be  ready soon.
