Gonzaga and the Mariners

Gonzaga men's basketball team might not
be as good as anticipated losing to Purdue
84-66 last Friday.  They responded back
with a win on Sunday 88-84 over Xavier.
They are now ranked #14 after being number
2.

Gonzaga plays Baylor on Friday on the  road.
They  will  have to show what they have to be
a national  contender this season.

In baseball the Winter Meetings  begin this
weekend.  Will the Mariners  sign a free agent
or make a trade at the meetings or before.
They have been silent though sure they are
talking. Not much news on Mitch Haniger so
does mean that he will be back or not? The Mariners
certainly  have to pick up another if not.

The Mariners  do have three pitchers listed between
ten and twenty  of their top 30 prospects. Generally
position  players  don't  make the majors after the
top ten. Interesting  though outfielder Cade Marlowe
who was on the extra squad for the playoffs in case
of injuries  is listed as the Mariners  #21 prospect.
This must mean they have some pretty good position
prospects ahead of him.

The trade of lefty Adam Macko to the Toronto Blue
Jay's prospects have moved up. Recently I  have written
about top ten including Macko. Now I  will give the new #10
and 11.  #10 is Lazaro Montes an outfielder from Cuba.
He is 18 so a few years before seeing him. Lazaro considered
the number 8 in the international pool the Mariners signed
in January.  In his first pro season in Dominican summer league
Lazaro hit .284 and showed some power with 10 home runs.
He does hit left handed so keep his name for T-Mobile Park
in several years.

#11 is infielder Michael  Arroyo who signed as international player
this year as well. He batted .314 with 4 home runs in the Dominican.
Both players could be playing in  the USA  this year. Possibly at
Low level A Modesto.

Any trades the Mariners  do make could a top prospect or two.

Huskies Men Basketball

The Huskies beat city rival
Seattle University Monday
Night 77-66 in there annual
contest.

The Huskies got off to a good
start however let Seattle back
into the game. The RedHawks
were leading at half time 40-38.

Though the Huskies are 7-1
most of the games they have
been down by a few points
at halftime. The RedHawks
had a eight point lead in second
half before the Huskies started
to score.

Keion Brooks Jr led the Huskies
with 20 points.  Center Braxton Mean had his best offense outing having 18 points. Seattle
had no one to stop him.

Cole Bajema had a good first half leading to him having
16 points. Cole is starting in
place of Noah Williams who
has missed the last six games.
Cole likely be the first player off
the bench when Williams returns.

Jamal Bey scored in double figures with 10. It will be important for Bey to score
in double figures for Huskies
success.

The Huskies play Oregon State
on Thursday. This will show
whether the non-league games
have helped the Huskies or not
though they have been inconsistent. Go Dawgs

Seahawks Lose In Overtime

The Seahawks  lost for the second time
in a row. This time  to the Las Vegas
Raiders 40-34 in overtime.

The Seahawks  haven't  played well in
their last two games. I  wonder having
a bye didn't  help or were they playing
above their heads. Losing at home
didn't  help matters either.

Ken Walker  had a hard time  running
the ball though  he had two touchdowns
and the Seahawks  couldn't stop the
run including the final play of the game
when the Raiders ran for an 84 yard to.

Now time for the Seahawks get back
to the drawing board. The Seahawks
are on the road playing the Rams in
LA and then Carolina Panthers at home.
Both teams are having horrible seasons
so those games will  tell us more about
the Hawks.

In Hockey  the Kraken keep on winning
this time over the Anaheim Ducks on the
road 5-4. The Kraken  got off to a good
start scoring  three goals in the first period
however let the Ducks back in the game in
the second. The Kraken  though scored for
the win in the 3rd period. Tuesday night play
the Kings in LA before coming home.

The Kraken now are 13-5-3 and solid in second
place in Pacific division. Right now they look
to make the playoffs. Not bad for a second
year team. I  will  keep you up to date.

Huskies Win

The first three quarter it
was a tight game. The
Cougars looked like they
may win. The score was
Huskies 35-33.

The Cougars have problems
often scoring in the 4th quarter
and this game was no different.

The Huskies scored 16 points.
Michael Penix Jr had another
good game throwing for 484
yards and three touchdowns.

The offensive line was able
to keep Penix from having
to hurry most of the night.

Now the Huskies have to wait
to see who they play in a bowl
game. With ten wins it should
be a pretty good one. Stay tuned!

Kraken Saturday

As the local sports fan is getting ready
for the Apple  Cup Saturday night
I  figured say something  about the Kraken.

They beat the Vegas Golden Knights for
the first time in their short history on Friday
night in Vegas 4 to 2.

The Kraken  took the early lead and the
Golden Knights tied in the first period
2-2. The second period  the Kraken  scored
the final two goals and no goals by either
team.

The Kraken  controlled the time of possession.
Phillipp Grubauer started at goalie for the
first time since being injured early on in the
season.  We will  see when he sees action
again. It was an impressive win on the road
and the Golden Knights  lead the Pacific
division  withe Kraken  in the second spot.

The Seattle Mariners  when will they strike
again in a trade or signing a free agent.  Will
they sign someone not expected like they did
last year with Robbie Ray. Hopefully  with better
results in the first year. I  am  sure  everyone
expects better results  from  Ray in his second
year just like Jesse Winker  if he still is with
the team.

I do hope the Mariners  do something  this week.
Still  not sure  Mitch Haniger  will be back or not.
Both the Angels  and  Rangers are interested along
with some other teams. A lot will  depend what those
teams are offering  and whether  the Mariners want
to give more. Possibly  Mitch may want a new start.

Gonzaga WSU UW

All three of the top men's
teams in Washington basketball have all won
this week.

Gonzaga beat Portland State
on Thanksgiving 102 -78.
They take on Purdue Friday
Night. The Boilermakers are
4-0 and ranked #24 so maybe a close game. We will see.

Gonzaga had six players
score in double figures with
Malachi Smith come off the
bench with 23 points. They
play Baylor next Friday night.
If they win these two games
they should continue have
an outstanding season.

The Cougars ended a two game losing streak beating Eastern
Washington on Monday 82-56 then Detroit Friday 96-54. The
Cougars take on Oregon Ducks
next Thursday. See how they
against Pac-12.

I am sure the Cougars are
looking to the Apple Cup tomorrow night as well the
Huskies. Expect this to be a
close one.

The Huskies beat St Mary's
Thursday night in championship of the Legacy
Wooden. Nothing to brag
about since they had 25 turn
overs in overtime.
Washington 68 St. Mary's 64
Keion Roberts Jr led Huskies
with 14 points along with
11 rebounds. He was named
MVP of the tournament.

The Huskies play Seattle U
on Monday then face Oregon
State Thursday night. The
Huskies will need to start
faster and cut down on
turnovers on Monday night
before facing the Beavers.

This could be a long year for
the Huskies. Possible for
Cougs to but give them a
better chance. Not sure
Hopkins will survive for
next season.

Washington Huskies BB Win

The Washington Huskies
won Wednesday night in the Wooden Legacy Classic
62-57 over Fresno State.

It wasn't a very good game
for either team. The Huskies
had to overcome a shaky
start which they do often.
They missed their first
eight shots. Fresno State
led 8-0 before they made
their first shot. In fact Fresno
State wasn't shooting that
good either.

Keion Brooks Jr was the
only Husky to score in
double figures with 16 points.
He didn't have a good shooting
night going 4 for 15 from
the field. He did make all
seven of his foul shots.
Everyone else on Huskies
shit terrible at the line and
I am being kind.

The Huskies went on a 14
point run at the beginning
of the second half after being
behind 28-27 at the half.

The Huskies take on St.Mary's
who beat Vanderbilt 75-65.
The Huskies will have to get
off to a better start or they
will be blown out. In fact that
is how their season will go
against good teams.

Best to the Huskies on
Thanksgiving. They return
home to play Seattle University
on Monday to end November.

Happy Thanksgiving Sports Fans

Here in Washington  sports has been
good this year. The Mariners made it to
the playoffs in twenty  years and could
have beaten  the WS champions.

Now the question  is will they sign
one of the top  four  shortstop or
trade for a second baseman.  Wouldn't
it be nice to be  done today.

The Seahawks are doing better  than
we thought and may make the playoffs
and have a high first round draft pick
from Denver.

Both the Huskies and Cougars  are  having
a better than expected season.  Tuesday
the Huskies signed Kalen DeBoer to an extension
through 2028.

The Seattle Kraken are having a winning season
so far with  winning record at 10-5-3.

Happy  Thanksgiving  everyone. 😊😊👍👍

Gonzaga Wins

The Gonzaga Bulldogs  got back on
their winning  ways Sunday  after
losing to  Texas in their previous
game.

The Bulldogs  beat #4 Kentucky
88-72. It is good news to know the
best team in Washington wins.

My opinion  the Huskies especially
but the Cougars to should be better
than they have been. They should
follow the Bulldogs  way of recruiting.
The state of Washington  do have a lot
of good basketball  players and enough
to be on all three teams. The Bulldogs
go nationally  and  internationally.

The Bulldogs  had four of their five
starters  in double figures scoring.
They were led by guard Rasir Bolton
with 24 points. Team leader on the
season Drew Timme  had 22.

Julian Strawther number two on the
team had 20. He led the team in rebounding
with 14. Anton Watson had 10 paints
and 10 rebounds.

Over the season  let you know a bit more
about each starter  player. Go with the
Bulldogs  player of the game.

On the Kentucky side they got off to a
slow start  getting behind as much as 18
points in the first half. Thet tried but
couldn't  get back into the game. Another
concern is their rebounding.  Kentucky
always  have  McDonald  All-American players
on their and the concern is not enough basketballs
around to satisfy them. Other words not enough
teamwork.

Maybe the Bulldogs will see Kentucky again in
the NCAA  tournament in March. Go Bulldogs!

Good Wins In Football and Hockey

The Washington  State  Cougars  began
Saturday with first win of the day beating
Arizona 31-20.

The Cougars got off to a good start
scoring 21 of the 31 points in the first
half. Arizona had only six in the first
half.

The Cougars got their remaining ten
points in the 3rd qtr. They were shutout
in the 4th as Arizona tried a comeback
scoring two touchdowns.

The Huskies  ended up  beating Colorado
54-7. The  Huskies  scored 33 points in
the first half with four touchdowns and a
safety followed by a field goal to end the half.

The Huskies played reserves for the last quarter
and a half. Dylan Morris  came in for Penix.
With fresh legs Morris  did some running as well
as passing  including  a  touchdown to Sam Adams.

Now the Cougars and Huskies plan for the Apple Cup
for next Saturday.  The Huskies  want to avenge the
loss from last year  while the Cougars want to spoil
the Huskies fine season.  Both teams will go to bowl
games. What games will depend on the fate of the
Apple Cup.

The Seattle  Kraken beat LA Kings at home 3-2 in
overtime. The Kraken  scored the first goal in the
first period  than the Kings tied in the second. Both
teams had a goal in the third.

The Kraken  now have ten wins on the season.

More Happening With Mariners

The trade sending  Kyle Lewis to
Arizona  for catcher Cooper Hummel
meant that Luis Torrens  was non-tendered.

This means Torrens is now a freeagent.
He has had his ups and downs since
arriving in  Seattle  with Ty France and
Taylor  Trammell.

Torrens was non-tendered since he is eligible
for arbitration at the amount of $1.2 million.
Jerry  Dipoto said if Torrens isn't  signed
by another team he will asked to be a  non-roster
invitee to training camp.

Also, catcher Brian O'Keefe who played most
of the season  at Tacoma and pitcher Luke
Weaver were non-tendered as well. The Mariners
40-man roster  now is at 37.

Rumors are Mitch Haniger may sign with the
Angels if he doesn’t with the Mariners. Another
good reason to  have  him back. The Angels
are said to sign Haniger  three years at $13 million
per year. I  go for it. Won't  want to see Mitch
end up winning  games against  the Mariners.

Kyle Lewis To Arizona

We wondered what the
Mariners were going to
do with Kyle Lewis since
they sent him to Tacoma.
Early on when called up
last year he did well but
couldn't stay healthy.
September he wasn't called up.

The Mariners must feel he
will never totally healthy
so they traded him to the
Arizona Diamondback's
on Thursday for Cooper
Hummel a catcher/outfielder.

Last year he played 66 games
for Arizona as a rookie. Not
quite the numbers of Lewis.
I hope the Mariners are able
to use him in a backup role
in outfield and catcher. Lewis
I hope gets healthy enough
where he can be used as a
dh. We see the talent in him.

Now for the Mariners will
they send Murphy or Torrens
somewhere for another piece.
We could hear about another trade soon too. Wong second
baseman who will be free agent next year.

Heard Adam Frazier may sign
with Angels. Haniger to as well if he doesn't resign with the
Mariners. Hernandez will play
right if Haniger is not back or
left field.  Stay tuned!

Washington BB Lose

Not a good week  for  instate
college  basketball.  The Huskies
lost to California  Baptist at
home Thursday  night 73-64.

The Huskies  did have Keion
Brooks Jr back for this one
after missing a couple games.
He and PJ Fuller each had 11
points. The Huskies were led by
center Franck Kepnang with 16.

The difference  in the game
California  Baptist did better
in making more 3 point shots
and foul shots.

This year's  version  of the Huskies
are going more to the basket than
trying  to rely on 3 point  shots.
The Huskies  are now 4-2 a better
start than last year.

The Huskies  next home game is
next Wednesday  against Fresno State.

The Huskies football team take on
Colorado  at home Saturday  night
at 6. Colorado  not good  so should
be a high scoring game for Huskies.

WSU and Gonzaga Both Lose

Washington  State Cougars and Gonzaga
both lose on the road.

It was the second loss in a row for the
Cougars. It is never easy to win on the
road.

Final Prairie  View 70  WSU  59
The game took place Tuesday
Second loss in a row both on the
road.

Cougars had a tough first half
scoring 27 points while giving
up  41. Did a little  bit better in
second half  but not enough
to get close to winning.

Cougars next game will be on
the road against Eastern Washington
next  Monday. See if they can get
a win or may have a long season.

Gonzaga  lost to the #11 ranked
Texas Longhorns  93-74. Not a
close game and Texas fans were
noisy which doesn't help either.

The Longhorns  scored 47 points
in first half and 46 in the second
while Gonzaga  scored 37 in each
half. Gonzaga will play Kentucky
on Sunday.

Kentucky  lost this week to Michigan
State so both teams  will look to get
back on their winning ways.

Gonzaga had 20 turnovers  compared
to 10 by Texas. Something  they will
have to improve against Kentucky.

Mariners Make First Splash

It sounded like Chris Flexen was going to Toronto for
Teoscar Hernandez. Instead
they traded reliever Erik
Swanson and number 8
prospect Adam Macko.

The Mariners have now a plus
in the outfield. We have to see
whether there are able to resign Mitch Haniger or not. If not likely will be in Haniger's spot
in the lineup.

Thirdbaseman/ first base Tyler
Locklear moved up from nine to.eight in the trade. Tyler was
drafted this year and spent
most time at Modesto where
he hit .282 had seven home
runs. Estimated to make majors in 2026.

Number nine prospect is
outfielder Zach DeLoach
second round pick in 2020.
He had 14 home runs this
year at double A Arkansas.
We could see him in Seattle
during the 2023 season
unless the Mariners decide
to trade him.

That's it for now. See anything come up from the Mariners.

A Mariners Moment

Scott Servais  was third in the voting
for manager of the year which went
to Cleveland's manager. You think
making the playoffs  for the first
time in 20 years and almost making
it to the World Series would have
made Servais  the logical choice.

I guess since they were in a weak division
outside the World champions might  make
sense.

I  guess we won’t  hear about anymore
rookie of the year awards since Julio
got them all. Congratulations Julio!

There are rumors  of trading Chris Flexen
and I  am  sure could be the first one to
come down. Jerry Dipoto  always finds
a way to surprise us though technically
he isn't  general manager anymore though
I  am  sure has to ok the trade.

The latest rumor is Flexen  going to Toronto
for outfielder  Teoscar Hernandez outfielder.
He primarily  would play  in  left field  but
can play center if Julio  needs a day off.
He batted .267 with 25 home runs and 77
runs batted in. He bats right handed and just
turned 30. Has been with Toronto for five
full seasons. The Mariners would have to
add another player  to  get Hernandez. Most
likely  a prospect.

Speaking  of  prospects  the Mariners added
four minor leaguers  to  the  40-man roster.
This keeps  the  four from being eligible for
the rule five draft which comes up soon.

Anyway that is it for right now on the Mariners.
I will give top prospects nine and ten soon.

Huskies Men Win Again

The Huskies were without  Keion Brooks Jr
and Noah Williams  for the second game in
a row.

They beat Dixie State 78-67. The game was
a lot like their last outing  having to  come
from behind in the second half.

Before the game Coach Hopkins  said the
chemistry  isn't  there yet without Brooks
and Williams. I  wonder he still feels that way.

Freshman  Kenyon Menifield led the Huskies
with 26 points. The Huskies  shot well behind
the 3pt line making 12 of 20.

When Brooks  and Williams return still expect
Menifield  to start or at least getting  a  lot of
playing time. He actually played the whole game.

The Huskies  next game is against California
Baptist on Thursday night. The WSU  Cougars
play tonight and Gonzaga  is playing Texas
on the road  Wednesday.  This could be an upset.
Let you know  how both games go.

In baseball  Julio Rodriguez won another rookie
of the year award. He got them all. I wish they
just had one award just like Cy Young.

Mariners Monday

Hard to know how things are going
in the  Hot Stove League. The Mariners
keep  it quiet  for the most part.

On Twitter  mentioned they are interested
in an outfielder  from Japan. His name is
Masataka Yoshida. He bats left handed
and throws right. He is 29 years old and
has batted over .300 in his career in Japan.
See where things go.

Today going to  look at Mariners  six thru eight
prospects.  All three are pitcher

# 6 Walter Ford a right handed pitcher and no
relation to top prospect  Harry Ford. He was
drafted this year in round B as competitive
balance by  the Mariners. He is drafted out of
high school.  His arrival in majors is listed
2026. At a young age he throws 95-97 fast
ball. He throws slider and changeup to. His
changeup  has work to do.

#7 Taylor  Dollar  right hander drafted in
the 5th round by the Mariners in 2020.
Taylor had such an outstanding  season
in 2022 at Arkansas  he was named the
pitcher of the year in the  Texas League.
There is a chance  we will see him in
Seattle  this year. Though a starter the
Mariners  could  move him to the bullpen
since the rotation  is crowded.

#8 Lefty Adam Macko was drafted in the
7th round by the Mariners  in 2019 out of
high school. He is only 21 years old. This
year he spen the season  at high A Everett
where he started eight games on the year
with an era of 3.99. Macko struck out 60
batters in 38 and 1/3 innings. He projected
to make his debut with the Mariners in 2024.
If they don't  have  room in the rotation  being
a lefty out of the bullpen  maybe  ideal. We will
have to see.

Next  time on the Mariners  we hope for a
signing or a trade.  We look at prospects #9
and 10. They are the likely  ones to be seen
in Seattle the top ten though the Mariners have
had other ones come through. Last year Penn
Murfee was  a lower prospect.  Go M's.

Seattle Loses in Germany

The Seahawks were beaten
Sunday 21-16 in Germany. The game was early here and the Seahawks played like they didn't get enough sleep.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers led
14-0 at half time. The Seahawks had a field goal in the third quarter. Buccaneers
had another touchdown before
the Seahawks rally including an
interception.

Now the Seahawks are now 6-4. They have a bye week before taking on the Las Vegas Raiders who are not playing well.

Geno Smith didn't play well until the fourth quarter. The defense couldn't stop the Buccaneers
running game which opened up
the passing game. We hope the
Seahawks can rebound now.

Huskies and Cougars both win Saturday

The Washington Huskies were almost two touchdown
underdogs going into Eugene with the Oregon Ducks
having won 23 games in a row. It came down to the end
but the Huskies won 37-34. They now have two games
remaining on the season. Next week against Colorado
and then the Apple Cup. Huskies will look for revenge
after last season's loss at home against the Cougars.
The Huskies now have a 8-2 record.

The Cougars who played earlier beat Arizona State
at home 28-18. The Cougars scored all their points
in the first half while Sun Devils got all their points
in the second half  but ran out of time. Cougars are now
6-4 so qualify for a bowl game. They play Arizona
on the road next Saturday before facing the Huskies.

In men's basketball the Cougars lost to Boise State
on the road 71-61. They are now 1-1 on the season.
They play Prairie View on the road on Tuesday.

Gonzaga and Washington Both Win

It wasn't  easy  for both teams but
in the end Gonzaga and Washington
men's basketball  teams won their
games.

Gonzaga had to come from behind
in the second half to beat Michigan
State 64-63. Drew Timme  who led
the Bulldogs with 22 points was the
player allowing them to win. He made
their last two field goals and a free
throw to win. Michigan State tried to
win but missed the shot at the buzzer.

Gonzaga takes on Texas next week.
They are ranked #12 so be another
good test.

The Huskies  on the other hand were
missing to starters in the game. Keion
Brooks Jr , the team's go to guy. Also
Noah Williams. The Huskies started
Cole Bajema and freshman Keyon
Menifield in their place. They  pretty
well went with their starters except
at center most of the way.

Menifield ended up leading the  Huskies
with 21 points. He certainly going to
show his value whether  starting or
coming off the bench. Bajema had only
seven points but led the team in rebounds
with 11.

The Huskies  beat North Florida 75-67.
This the same team who lost big to
Gonzaga  on Monday. Franck Kepnang
center who comes off the bench for
16 points which they won't see often
and 10 rebounds as well. Jamal Bey
who the Huskies hope will deliver
double figures  all season long had
13 points.

The Huskies  take on Dixie State on
Monday so hope to  have  Brooks
and Williams back.

Seahawks in Germany

The Seattle Seahawks  arrived
Thursday  morning  our time
in Germany to get ready for Sunday's
game.

I believe  you have to have NFL network
to see the game. I hope locally they will
allow us to  see the game.

The Seahawks  had their first practice
in Munich  on Thursday.  Teem meetings
took place in the hotel.

For some reason  Tampa  Bay is favored
by three points. That's  ok this allow the
Seahawks  have  chip on their shoulders.
Let's  see another victory.  Go Hawks!

Officially Free Agency

Thursday  begins free agency. The Mariners
will be looking to sign at least a couple players.

Mitch Haniger  is a free agent. The Mariners
declined the one year offer of  $19 million.
That is a no brainer since he missed most of
2022. I  know Haniger would like to return but
for how much? I  am   not sure how much
he will be offered on the open market.

The Mariners  are looking to go out for a
free agent shortstop who is willing to
play second base. Since JP Crawford
is still here. Crawford  shows he is tiring
down during  the  season  the player will
play some shortstop as well.

They will see who is out there as an outfielder
as well.  Neither Jarred Kelenic  and Taylor
Trammell have shown they can hit major
league hitting yet. This coming season should
be a breaking year for them.

Trading wise Marco Gonzales and Chris Flexen
the Mariners will see who is out there to be
interested in picking  them up. An outfielder
and a prospect  would  be  nice.

So let's  see  hot stove league begin.

Next time  on the Mariners  we will  look  at
number 6 thru 8 prospects along with any news.
Go M's.

Wednesday Look at Gonzaga and More

The Gonzaga Bulldogs  are number 2
in the land and King in Washington
State. There is is talk they could move
to the Big 12. They do it will be sad
news for the Pac-12.

With USC  leaving for sure and UCLA
likely  to  the Big 10. Adding Gonzaga
the King of the West  makes sense.

Monay night Gonzaga blew out North
Florida 104-60.  They had six players
score in double figures. They were led
by Drew Timme  with 22 points. Timme
seems like he has been a Bulldog forever.

On Friday  they take on Michigan State
at home. Gives us a better idea how good
they are. In one week they play Texas on
the road Kentucky on Sunday  November
20.

Now looking at the Seattle Kraken. They are
getting off to a good start.  Now in their
second season  they look like a hockey team.
Tuesday  night  they beat Nashville at home
5-1. They scored four goals in the first period.

The Kraken have five wins in a row. They have
a record of 8-4-2. They are second  place behind
Las Vegas in the Pacific  division  with a record
of 12-2.  They have five games at home after
this game. They take on Minnesota Wild Friday
Night. The Kraken's next road game is on November
25 at Las Vegas. Look at  success.

Cougars and Huskies Men's Basketball

Washington State Cougars got off
to a good start then let Texas State
back into the  game.

Most basketball  games  teams go
on good runs most of the time including
the team that loses.

Texas State was that way  in the first
half being able to get ahead before
the  Cougars were  able to ride the ship.
Final WSU  83 Texas 61

The Cougars  had four players score
in double figures.  The Cougars were led
by center Mouhamed Gueye 18 points.
Also, dominated the boards with 13 rebounds.
Forward DJ Rodman had 16 points making
four out of six from 3 pt line. He left the game
in the second half when he got into foul
trouble with four.

The Cougars had two new starters who came
in by transfer portal.  Justin Powell who transferred
from Tennessee  and Jabe Mullins from Snoqualmie,
Washington  who transferred  from St.Mary's. Both got
off to slow start but Powell  ended up  with 14 and Mullins
with 13. Both are good additions  to  the team.

The  Huskies  beat Weber State  69-52. Both teams got
off to sluggish  starts. The Huskies  were able to  get
things going into middle to late of the first half.

They began the game playing man to man defense which
didn't  help at all. When they went to their 2-3 defense
Weber State  wasn't  able to handle  it. The Huskies  went
on a 15-1 run to end the first half 31 to 23.

The second half the score stayed about the same as the
Huskies  led around the  8 point mark.  Some reason
they went back to  man to  man before going back to zone.
This allowed them to extend the  lead. The second half
play by the Huskies  was much better  than  the  first.

Though the Huskies  are still  trying  out how to play
the zone with the new players I would say stick to
it. The  Huskies  still not a good  3 point shooting and
the zone helps to take the ball inside.

Next game we hope to see the Huskies get off to
a faster start. Against  good teams they could be
blown out in the first  half.

College Basketball Begins

Monday night throughout the country
college basketball  season begins.
Teams begin their  non-league schedule.

The Washington Huskies  play Weber State
at home on Monday night. Their second
game is Friday  night against North Florida.
All six games are at home in November.
The first road game be against Oregon
State on December 1st. By then we will
know how good or bad they are. This is
a critical year for Coach Hopkins with
two more  years remaining on his current
contract.

The Washington State  Cougars  are at
home  Monday against Texas State then
travel Saturday to Boise  State. The Cougars
have three of their five games in November
on the road.

The panel of Pac-12  writers the  Cougars are
expected to finish 8th and the Huskies 9th in the
conference.  I  don't  think  9th  place will keep
Coach Hopkins job. In fact, if they have a losing
record going into 2023 I  am  not sure Hopkins
will be around. The Huskies look like  a  talented
group but wins is what counts.

Seahawks Win Again

Sunday afternoon  the Seahawks  beat
the  Arizona Cardinals 31-21 for the
second time in a month.

Geno Smith threw interception for
a touchdown  making it closer than
it should have been.

The Cardinals  had trouble on offense
much of the day. They did score to be
down 24-21 in the 4th quarter with
just over three minutes remaining in
the game, however,  they couldn't stop
the Seahawks. Tight end George  Fant
caught and ran a long one to put the
Seahawks  in position  to score. RB
Ken Walker  ran in to get the touchdown.

Next Sunday the Seahawks play Tampa
Bay Buccaneers in Munich Germany.
The Bucs have been having  a hard time
this season,  however, they beat the Rams
16-13 on Sunday.

The Seahawks  are  now 6-3 and  lead the
division  over the SF 49ers who are 4-4 while
the Rams are 3-5 and Cardinals 3-6.

The Seahawks  will  have  the following week
off then take on the Las Vegas  Raiders the
Sunday  afternoon  Thanksgiving.

Hot Stove Begins

The Houston  Astros  winning  the  World
Series in six games shows us how closer
the Mariners  are getting.

Now we have to  see what moves Jerry
Dipoto and  his staff make over the
off-season.

Jerry  is no longer officially general
manager but his footprint will still
take place in the free agency and
trades.

Sometimes  trades are more success
than free agency. Just ask the LA Angels.
Jesse Winker certainly  wasn't the success
we were hoping for, however, Eugenio Suarez
was a surprise  and  made the trade a success.
Who knows maybe Jesse Winker will have a
better 2023.

Signing a second baseman/shortstop will
happen in free agency. Whether JP Crawford
stays at shortstop  or moves to  second it will
be important to  have someone  give him
time off once in a while.  He usually slides
down in the second half  of the season. It
would be nice to have someone  give him
a few days  off when he isn't  hitting.

Adding an outfielder with major league
experience would be good. We can't wait
for Jarred Kelenic or Taylor Trammell's
potential to  come alive. I  don't  mind that
one or both are on the roster but having
a healthy  bat helps. We have to  see the
Mariners  resign Mitch Haniger or not.
Also, there is Kyle Lewis  whether he will
be healthy.  He certainly  help if he does.
Be corner outfielder well as dh. Even if
he can't play everyday his bat would  be
welcomed off the bench. Go M's.

Huskies Win Friday Night

It wasn't  easy but the Huskies  beat
the Oregon  State Beavers  at  home
24-21. A field goal with eight seconds
remaining  in  the  game. The only
time they led. I  guess we can say it
how you end not started.

It would  be  nice the Huskies  defense
would be as good as thev offense but they
did stop the Beavers  when it counted.
In fact, twice in the first half stopped
the Beavers  on 4th down. Would have
been a total  different game.

The Huskies  are now 7-2 with three games
remaining.  They take on the Oregon Ducks
in Eugene next week.  The Ducks are undefeated
in conference play. The USC Trojans,  UCLA
Bruins and Utah Utes have one loss each. Utah
already beat USC  by one point so they need Utah
to lose as well  as  beating UCLA. Utah's loss was
to UCLA so they need the Bruins to lose to USC.
Best scenario  would be the Huskies win all three
games left and two losses by these other teams.
Not an easy  task.  We will see.

The Washington State Cougars play at Stanford
Saturday  afternoon.  They are on a three game
losing streak so they need to  win. Stanford is at the
bottom of the conference with 1-5 record. The
Cougars are 1-4. The Cougars  don't want to end
in last place themselves.  You are a Husky fan you
want the Cougars  to  win too. Don't  want  to  face
the Cougars  in the Apple  Cup with a worse record.

Looking at Mariners Top Prospects

The Seattle  Mariners  top prospects
look a little  different since the trade
picking up Luis Castillo from the
Cincinnati  Reds.  Now playing against
each National  League team each year
be nice to  face them  some time soon.

#1
Harry Ford who the Mariners picked in
the first round of  the  2021 draft. Harry
is a catcher  but the emergence of Cal
Raleigh  the Mariners  may play him
elsewhere though spent this year playing
catcher. Harry ended  up  playing at low
A Modesto  where he batted .274 after
getting off to a slow start. Likely start
at Everett  this next season.
#2
Emerson Hancock the Mariners  top
pick in 2021 Likely be in the Mariners
rotation in 2023. His era was 3.75 at
Arkansas in 21 starts. Only three 98.1
innings.  Like Logan Gilbert and George
Kirby  brought him along slowly.

#3
Gabriel Gonzalez an outfielder the Mariners
signed internationally in 2021. He is only 18
so might be here in three years if he follows
Julio Rodriguez. He batted .321 this year
at Modesto.  Also, be at Everett  this coming
season.

# 4
Cole Young this year's top pick and a shortstop
certainly  got off to a  good start. He played
rookie team in Arizona where  he  batted .333
then went to  Modesto  where he hit even better
at .385 in ten games. The Mariners  may have
start next season there as well.  Most likely be
at Everett  some time during 2023.

# 5

Bryce Miller  was a fourth round pick in 2021.
He made one start at   Modesto followed by
16 in Everett.  He finished the season  in
Arkansas. Hard to  know whether  he starts
or is a reliever. He could begin this coming
year in Arkansas  or Tacoma. He could be
another Penn Murfee.

We will look at other prospects heading  into
next season. The Mariners  still loaded so
a trade or two  could end up sending others
elsewhere.  Go M's

Seahawks Thursday

To begin with  Will Dissly was named
Special  team's  player of last week
for causing  a fumble and recovering
another. Shows he is more than a
tight end.

The Seahawks  say they have five
healthy defensive  backs.  A good
thing and they have been playing
so well. They released former Husky
Sidney  Jones who has been inactivated
the last several weeks. Hope he finds
a new place to play.

The Seahawks  play the Cardinals
in Arizona  on Sunday. I  am  sure
the Cardinals will adjust after a loss
recently to  the Seahawks.  The
Cardinals  need a win badly or the
season  can be over for them.

It would be  nice  to  have  a  fourth
win a row. The NFC West is for the taking.
Great job and keep  going Hawks!

Husky Men's Basketball

Tuesday night the Huskies  basketball team
had their first game an exhibition  against
Alaska-Fairbanks. They won easily 95-64.

Some observations

Keion Brooks Jr transfer from Kentucky
will be the go to guy on this year's  team.

The two Huskies centers run the floor
pretty  well. Might be  hard for opposition
to come inside.

The Huskies starting five outside of the
center position will have to play a lot of
minutes. Though talented the Huskies
bench doesn't have a lot of experience.
Cole Bajema missed the  game because
of illness and he is the one with experience.
PJ Fuller  is in the starting lineup now after
coming off the bench last season. Go Dawgs!
