Seahawks Offensive Line

We all know how terrible the Seahawks running game has been since Marshawn Lynch left. Yes a major problem has been the offensive line. So much that Tom Cable was fired after the season and now they have Mike Solari who previously coached under Mike Holmgren.

The Seahawks also hired Brian Schottenheimer as offensive coordinator as well. The whole purpose is for the Seahawks to get back to running the ball. I am sure the scheme will be different for the Seahawks as well.  We will find out in short order whether the problem has to do with the scheme or the players. This will go for the offensive line along with the running backs and tight ends. No longer do the Seahawks have Jimmy Graham who was not known for his blocking ability at tight end or Luke Willson.  The Seahawks signed free agent tight end Ed Dickson who has been known primarily for his blocking though he has been more catches the last few years as well. Returning for the Seahawks at tight end is Nick Vannett who has three years of experience with the Seahawks. We hope that his experience will allow him to materialize after playing behind Graham and Willson. Although he is known for his blocking the Seahawks will hope he will be able to catch some passes. The Seahawks also have Tyrone Swoopes in camp for his second duty. Since the Seahawks will probably keep three tight ends the odds are against Swoopes making the squad unless something happens to Dickson or Vannett or rookie Will Dissly out of Washington who the Seahawks drafted in the fourth round. Dissly would have to be a bust not to make the squad. He is known for his blocking as well along with soft hands. Although none of the three who make the final cut will be known for their receiving skills I am sure we will see some pass catching out of them as well.

The offensive line will be made up of veteran left tackle Duane Brown who the Seahawks picked up from the Houston Texans a few days after they played them. The Seahawks will have George Fant  back returning after being out all last season after being the starting left tackle going into the season. The Seahawks also drafted Jamarco Jones out of Ohio State in the fifth round. Either player could move over to the right tackle spot where Germain Ifedi was the starter last year but had a terrible season with a lot of holding penalties.  Ethan Pocic is expected to be the left guard after having an excellent rookie season last year. He is one that can play at all the position on the offensive line including center. Speaking of center Justin Britt will return again as the starter. He is backed up by Joey Hunt though Pocic could move into the spot.  The right guard right now belongs to D.J. Fluker who they signed as a free agent during the off-season. I see the Seahawks offensive line being better this coming season with a new coach, new scheme and experience. We won’t know for sure until the season is under way. Go Hawks!!
