The Seattle Mariners 40-man Roster

Although  the players  are  locked  out   might
as well look  at the 40 man roster. I  am  sure
after the lock  out is over things  will change
in that regard.

Of the 40 roster  spots  21 of them are pitchers..
The Mariners  will go with five  starting pitcher
and  eight or nine  relievers. Say they  go with
nine relievers than make 14 pitchers and 12
position players  on 26 man roster for  the
season. This would depend on the collective
bargaining agreement. They could  go with 28
players. Doing so the players would have to
give up something in the agreement.

The Mariners starting  five will be recently
signed Cy Young winner Robbie Ray, Marco
Gonzales,  Chris  Flexen, Logan  Gilbert plus
one more.  This could be Matt Brash who
had a successful  season in double-A in 2021.
This would mean Justus Sheffield and or
Justin Dunn could be  in the  bullpen or traded.
Another candidate would  be Nick Margevicius
who was injured  most of last season.

In the bullpen three who will be counted  on to
pitch the eighth and ninth innings will be Paul
Sewald, Drew Steckenrider and Diego Castillo.
The Mariners  have Ken Giles and Andres Munoz
who can pitch late innings as well. Casey Sadler
who had  outstanding season in 2021 will again
be the first reliever out of the bullpen and then at
least one lefty. Last year Anthony  Misiewicz was
the only  one  most of last season. He didn't have a
good season  so Margevicius  or Sheffield  could
take his  spot though  more likely  long reliever and
spot starter. This would leave two relievers  left.

The Mariners have Erik Swanson and  Yohan Ramirez
that could fill one or two spots. The Mariners  have  a
few others  who  spent time  in the  minors as well.
They could add one  or more to compete.

At catcher they have Cal Raleigh,  Tom Murphy, Luis
Torrens, and Jose Godoy. Raleigh will likely be  the
starter with  Murphy catching against lefties on
occasion.  Torrens do some dh well as first base along
with catching. Godoy likely  begin at triple-A. Murphy
or Torrens could  be  traded to.

In the  infield  Ty France  at first  base, with newly
acquired Adam Frazier at second, JP Crawford at short,
and Abraham  Toro at third. This  will  depend  on signing
a free agent  or not.  Not  sure whether Dylan  Moore be
on the team or not.  Evan White be on the team or not.
Might play  left field too.

In the outfield right now  Kyle Lewis  if healthy be in left or
center field. Jarred Kelenic be either spot  to. Mitch Haniger
in right. Lewis and  Haniger will do some dh as well. Jake
Fraley  be the 4th outfielder if he is on the ball club. Julio
Rodriguez is the  big one whether  he starts the season or
arrives in a month  or  two.  The Mariners  have Taylor
Trammell still.

We look forward to another good season  ahead. Go M's
