with the Cincinnati Reds that was
finalized Monday afternoon.
The Mariners picked up two players
that were two parts in a way. The
outfielder is Jesse Winker who
batted over .300 facing right handed
pitching. He does hit left handed and
most likely be platooned as he doesn't
hit lefties to well.
The other is third baseman Eugenio
Suarez. He may start at third base
but Abraham Toro will see action
there to well as second and first
base. Toro likely be known as a super
sub.
The Mariners gave up outfielder Jake
Fraley, pitcher Justin Dunn and prospect
pitcher Brandon Williamson. Also, the
Reds will pick up a player to be named
later as well. The Reds are expected to
pick up part of Winker's multi-year contract.
Right now the starting outfield looks like
Winker in left, Jarred Kelenic in center and
Mitch Haniger in right. Against lefties
Kyle Lewis will play left field and possibly
center sometimes depending on his health.
Against righties Lewis may dh. Against
lefties probably see Luis Torrens at dh unless
he is catching. This would depend on whether
Tom Murphy is doing well or not or is even
on the team.
Winker played five seasons with the Reds. In
2021 he had 24 home runs and 71 rbi's.
Should help offensively with the loss of
Kyle Seager. He will probably bat somewhere
in the middle of the batting order.
Actually Suarez is a home run hitter as well
from the right side. He has been with Reds
longer than Winker who was the key to the
trade. Suarez actually hit .198 but had 31
home runs. Didn't know that until I looked
it up.
Does this mean the Mariners won't sign
Kris Bryant. Not sure but the Mariners could
still sign him and move Suarez. The days
ahead will be interesting.
Jake Fraley I enjoy watching. I hope he
is able to tone his talent in Cincinnati. Not
sure of the outfielders on the Reds. I hope
he has good chance to play. Justin Dunn
missed a lot of 2021. Probably wouldn't
have had much of a shot in Seattle this season.
I wish the best for him too. Williamson we
didn't get a chance to see pitch but the talent
the Mariners have in the farm system we wish
him the best too. Go M's. 😊😊
