The Seattle Seahawks released Jamar Taylor this week with the activation of tight end Ed Dickson. The Seahawks with injuries at the tight end position had to either pick up another one through waivers or activate Ed Dickson when he was available to active which they did.
I think it sad to release Jamar Taylor; he is a good cornerback. The Seahawks though were not using him or anyone else for that matter as a nick back when the opportunity arises. They decided to keep Bobby Wagner, KJ Wright, and Mychal Kendricks in on passing downs. In a way, I find that OK since teams bring in players on third down when it is necessary for passing down. It may occur on second down on occasion because of a penalty or the quarter was sacked. I would say it happens later in the game than early.
Personally, I think the Seahawks need to use the nick back a little more frequently than they have. The problem could be that the Seahawks are playing in a zone at times as well. In the game against the 49ers, the Seahawks were taken advantage of in the first quarter; however, it didn't seem to happen much after that. I am sure the Seahawks changed things up. At least that is what I hope happened.
The Seahawks may go with safeties Ugo Amadi or Marquise Blair or cornerback Akeem King. Most teams would go with King in the nick back but the talent of Amadi and Blair may go with three safeties. I would expect the Seahawks to stay using the three linebackers most of the time unless they are not being successful. We will see what happens against the Eagles on Sunday. Go Hawks.
