WSU Wins UW Loses

Saturday was something else for college football in Washington State. The WSU Cougars almost had another loss with Oregon State coming up a play short. Do you remember the loss to UCLA? It almost happed the same way. The Cougars ended up winning 54-53. Oregon State scored 29 points in the fourth quarter making it really interesting. How many teams score that many points in any quarter well as the 4th quarter?

This game was a passing bonanza. If you like teams throwing the ball you would have liked this game. WSU quarterback Anthony Gordon threw the ball 70 times completing 50 of them for 606 yards, six touchdowns, and three interceptions. He became the Pac-12 single-season passer. On the other side, Oregon State's quarterback Jake Luton completed 22 of 40 passes for 408 yards, five touchdowns, and one interception.

It looks like the Huskies secondary will have a busy time next Friday in the Apple Cup whether they or the Huskies win. The Huskies have the Cougars number and the loss on Saturday night at Colorado 20-14 they will want to change things around.

The score was closer than the play of the Huskies. Especially in the first half quarterback Jacob Eason had to run around getting sacked five times on the night. His running yardage ended up minus 29.

The Huskies tried to establish the passing game after the bye week. Coach Chris Petersen said they would work on the passing game which is fine but why come out throwing when you have a good running game. This game showed the running game opens things up for the passing game.

We do hope the Huskies learned this lesson.  With the passing of WSU, you want to keep the ball out of their hands as much as possible.

Sunday the Seahawks take on the Eagles in Philadelphia. It will be nice to see a win so we can have a winning record for the state instead of losing record. Go Hawks!
