Though the major league baseball season
is on hold until at least mid-May it looks
like Mariners general manager Jerry Dipoto
made some moves on Friday.
The biggest surprise the Mariners put
reliever Sam Tuivailala on waivers.
He was expected to be the main
reliever coming out of the bullpen
in the 8th inning; however, he hadn't
pitched at all during spring training
because of his shoulder. I guess Dipoto
wasn't ready to wait on him.
The Mariners sent down four players
to triple-A Tacoma infielders Donovan
Walton and Patrick Wisdom along with
right-handed relievers Zach Grotz and
Taylor Williams.
I expect Grotz was sent down to get
in some pitching time when the season
starts and he has options. The same
goes for the other three guys as well.
The Mariners still have 31 roster players
along with 13 non-rosters from when
spring training ended. Depending on
how long spring training will be when
they finally able to get back to work
will decide how many more moves
Jerry Dipoto will make. Go M's.
