Cougars Win Going Away

We don't really know how good the

Cougars will be until they play the 

Washington Huskies in two weeks

in Seattle in the Apple Cup.

The Cougars offense had a good day

for sure winning 70-30 over Portland 

State.  They had three rushing 

touchdowns and six passing 

touchdowns. The defense had an interception for a touchdown as well.

Wayshawn Parker lead the Cougars 

in rushing with 96 yards. He had two 

touchdowns with the first being 54

yards rushing while the second was

a reception for 52 yards. The two 

were one after the other.

Cougars starting quarterback John

Mateer completed 11 of 17 yards for

352 yards and five touchdowns. Zevi

Eckhaus backup completed six of

seven for 61 yards and a touchdown.

Kyle Williams the teams top receiver

returning had four catches for 141

yards and two touchdowns. Kris 

Hutson had four catches as well 

for 102 yards and a touchdown.

The Cougars take on Texas Tech

next Saturday night at home.

This game should be a challenge

for the Cougars. Go Cougs!

Cougars and Huskies Start Saturday

The WSU Cougars take on Portland

State at home in Pullman. The game 

will be on CW in just a  few hours.

They do have much of their lineup

returning though they will have a

new qb under center. 

Washington Huskies take on Weber

State at Huskies Stadium Saturday

night. The game will be on the Big

Ten Network. Unless a despute ends

it will not be on Xfinity.  You think

this would have been resolved already.

Not fair for the Huskies fans. At least 

game three will be on Peacock Network

between the Huskies and Cougars in

two weeks.

The Huskies offense will be all new

with a new head coach, offense and

defensive players for the most part.

Mariner Take Game One

The Mariners beat the LA  Angels

Friday night in Anaheim 9-5.

The Mariners scored five runs 

in the first inning. The Angels 

shortstop made an error to help 

the cause. The unfortunate thing

George Kirby didn't have a good

outing. He gave up two runs in

the first inning.  He went five

and two-thirds innings giving up

all five runs.  The Mariners bullpen

surrendered two hits and no walks

the rest of the way. 

Some good news Mitch Garver had

a couple of hits including a double.

He drove in two runs with a double

in the first inning. Arozarena had 

a double and two hits too. Julio

had the only home run in the game

for the Mariners in the 4th inning.

He walked three times and scored

three times. He is showing discipline

at the plate. 

Bryan Woo will start Saturday night

for the Mariners while Tyler Anderson

for the Angels. This will be the toughest

game of the three for the Mariners.

Woo has another good outing they

have a good shot at this one. Go M's

Washington Huskies Vs Weber State

Saturday will be the first time the

Washington Huskies will play 

Weber State. 

Weber State is a member of the

Big Sky conference which includes

Idaho, Idaho State and Eastern

Washington. Montana won the

conference last year with 7-1

record. Weber State had a 4-4

record in conference.

The Big Sky has 12 teams and they

finished last year in seventh place.

Weber State are 0-7 against Pac-12

opponents. Also they are not good 

on the road either. Since playing at

Washington be a big disadvantage.

Weber State offense is like most

college football teams going with

three wide receivers, a tight end and 

a running back. Richie Munoz who

started the last five games as a true

freshman at quarterback returns.

They won their final three games.

A good sign for the season however

have to see against the Huskies.

Weber State's starting wide receivers

all return as well.  So does running

back Damon Bankston. He missed

much of last season with injuries.

On defense they play two defensive ends and two tackles on the front line. They

go with three linebackers and four defensive backs. They have some questions since they lose two all-Americans from last year.

The Huskies won't have the wide receivers

they had last year. Quarterback and

running back will be new along with

the offensive line. The defense will be

a match of old and new. 

We will see how the Huskies will

do in game one. Give us a good 

idea how their season will. How

much the offense looks the same

and or different. Same for the defense.

Mariners Take Series

The Seattle Mariners beat the Tampa

Bay Rays 6-2 Wednesday to take the series

2 to 1.  The home stand was short but the won 4 to 2.  The Mariners go on the road again beginning on Friday. We hope for a better road trip than the last one.

Both teams scored a run in the second 

the Mariners had a big fifth inning with

Robles hitting a two-run homer. Julio hit 

a two-run homer as well with JP Crawford 

on base. JP was activated before the

game after being on rehab assignment.

It was Julio's first home run since February

21. We hope this good signs ahead.

Rays scored a run in the eighth  inning

and Randy Arozarena hit his second

home run of the season against the

Rays in this series. 

Luis Castillo went five and two-thirds

to record his eleventh win on the

season. The bullpen did fine not

giving up a hit or a walk.

The Mariners have Thursday off

before facing the Angels in Anaheim

on Friday.

The Seahawks have 15 players signed

to the practice squad so far. Marquise

Blair and Arte Burns both veterans well

as defensive backs are among them. 

Running back George Holani being number 

four and linebacker Michael Barrett

acquired from Carolina in the trade they

sent  cornerback Michael Jackson.

Speaking of Carolina they claimed 

linebacker Jon Rattigan who many 

thought would remain with the Seahawks

and rookie defensive end Jamie Sheriff

were claimed on waivers.

Wide receiver Dee Eskridge was signed

to the Miami Dolphins practice squad.

Logan Gilbert Has No Run Support

Logan Gilbert had another night of

outstanding pitching like all the

Mariners starting rotation had.

Logan was able to go six innings and 

gave up no runs. The Mariners scored 

a run in the bottom of the sixth inning

to put them up by one. Victor Robles 

was back in the lineup. He had a single

and stole second and third. Cal Raleigh

drove him in with a single.

The Rays unfortunately hit a two-run

homer in the seventh and a solo homer

in the eighth off the bullpen. Leo Rivss scored however not enough.

The Astros lost again to the Phillies.

The Mariners could have gained another

game instead stay the same.

Seahawks Make Their 53-man Opening Roster

The Seahawks had to make their

roster by 1 pm Tuesday afternoon.

They didn't have many surprises.

It doesn't mean a few changes 

could happen before the first

game on September 8.

Names that were waived or let 

go. Top of the list was quarterback 

PJ Walker. He could be on the

practice squad though unless 

another team picked him up.

Safety Marquise Blair who.had

been with the Seahawks but let 

go by the team a few years ago

was let loose as well. See if that

is the end of his career. Former

Washington Huskies tied end

signed as a undrafted free agent

was waived for injury. We see if

he comes back some day.

Wide receiver Dee Eskridge who

has been hurt most of his career

in Seattle was waived too. Jon

Rattigan linebacker was waived.

He could be back with restricted

deal as he was last year. He is

very good on special teams.

Starting right tackle Abraham Lucas

wasn't able to start the season with

an injury so he is on reserve pup so

he will miss st least the first four games.

Also safety Jerrick Reed who played a

lot as a rookie last year and nose tackle

Cameron Young.

The Seahawks will go with Geno Smith

and Sam Howell at qb. Kenneth McIntosh

who didn't play a lot last year as a rookie

will be the third running back. He had a

wonderful preseason as the major runner

as Walker and Carbonett didn't play. They

will have majority of rushing attempts.

The Seahawks will go with four tight ends

including rookie AJ Barner. The offensive

line they are going with eleven. Undrafted

free agent Jalen Sundell made it as the

third center. We could see him at tackle

or guard if necessary. 

On the defensive line the Seahawks go 

with six. Johnathan Hankins a  free

agent signed after playing with the

Cowboys last year is expected to start

in the middle. He is good at stopping the 

run. First round pick Byron Murphy II

will play there to as well as on the outside.

The Seahawks will go with five outside

linebackers/edge rushers. Derrick Hall

second pick in 2023 will start as one of

them. He has shown he can stop the

run as well as rushing the qb. They go

with four inside linebackers, five corner

backs and four safeties. The specialists 

kicker Jason Myers, punter Michael

Dickson and long snapper Chris Stoll

stays the same. Any additional moves

will be made. Go Hawks!

Washington State Cougars Season Begins Saturday

The Washington  State  Cougars start play 

on Saturday at home against  Portland 

State. 

The  Cougars season begins before the

Washington Huskies  does. They begin  

at noon. This will  be an interesting 

season  since the Cougars and Oregon 

State Beavers  don't  have a conference 

anymore and they are left as the Pac-2.

The Portland  State Vikings play in

the Big Sky Conference the same one

as the Huskies opponent Weber State 

is in. In fact the following  week the

Vikings and Weber  State play each 

other in Ogden Utah.

The Cougars will play mostly  against 

the Moutain West conference  teams

this year and possibly  the following 

year. The Cougars and Beavers could 

merge into a new Pacific Conference 

or one by another name or into the

Mountain  West. They could end up

in another conference  as well.  In 

next several years  the Power 5 

Conferences  could look a lot different. 

We could see  two power Conferences

of the east and west. All will be driven

by the television  networks like ESPN

Mariners Win Monday Night

The Seattle Mariners beat the Tampa

Bay Rays the opening game of the series 

5-1.

Both teams hit a home run in the

second inning. Jorge Polanco for

the Mariners tied it. The third inning 

was a bit crazy and the difference in 

the game. Rivas and Raley were out

and the real good time happened

after that. Julio Rodriguez hit a ball 

to third baseman Jose Caballero.

The ball went right under his glove

for an error. Cal Raleigh hit a ball

that rolled over and hit the third

base bag. Randy Arozarena came

up and hit a three-run homer against

his former team. Leo Rivas drove in

the final run in the fourth inning. The

game might have been different had

Caballero not had the error.

Bryce Miller pitched a fantastic game

going seven innings. He tied a career

high ten strike outs. Only two hits

on the night for the Rays and no walks.

Logan Gilbert goes Tuesday night.

See if the Mariners can take the series.

The Houston Astros lost to the Phillies

so the Mariners are three and  a.half 

games behind first place. A much 

better bright spot since Thursday.

Tuesday the Seahawks have to.be

at 53 man roster so let you know

any surprises that may happen..

Washington Huskies Not Ranked

Not a big surprise that the Washington

Huskies football team isn't ranked in

top 25 going into the 2024 season.

Why I say that? Too many questions

at this point. 

1. Entering a new conference.

2. A new head coach.

3. A lot of new players.

Going into the Big Ten the Huskies

will have to see how they compete.

The same goes for Oregon, UCLA 

and USC. All four team will be

starting new quarterbacks too.

Having a new coach always brings

questions. He did coach in the Pac-12

at Arizona so that does help. We

hope success right away like with

DeBoer.

The Huskies have a lot of new players

and new coaches well. How do the

new players mesh in with those are 

still there. Those who came from

Arizona knows Fisch system. How

the existing fit into the system.

We know that the offensive line

will be different. They will be made

up of those who have been backups.

Are they ready to go.

The Huskies first game will be against

Weber State this coming Saturday night

at 8 pm. We will have a preview of Weber

Mariners Take Series

The Seattle Mariners beat SF Giants

4-3 Sunday afternoon. It is good 

they won a series like they did earlier 

on.

Bryan Woo continues to  pitch well.

Right now he is the Mariners best 

starter. Woo went seven innings so

his innings are increasing over the

season. He gave up a two-run homer 

in the first inning and that was it.

Happened after an error by Josh Rojas.

Altogether only four hits and seven

home runs. What a good guy to have.

Collin Snider have up a run after the

Mariners took the lead. It was his

first run he given in a long time. 

Something we can forgive. Munoz

finished in the ninth.

The Mariners scored their first run

in the first inning after the two-runner.

They were able to load the bases off

former Mariner Robbie Ray. Justin Turner 

lined into a two play however a run did 

score. Mitch Haniger  hit into a double play

in the six inning as well to put the Mariners

up 3-2. Josh Rojas hit a single in same 

inning to score their 4th run.

Now the Mariners will play the Tampa 

Bay Rays for three  beginning on Monday.

Astros won so they still have a 4.5 

lead. Go M's.

Seahawks Win Final Preseason Game

The Seahawks  beat the Cleveland Browns

Saturday  night 37-33 in the final preseason 

game. Now we will find out over the next 

three days who will make the opening day 

roster.

Geno Smith  expected to be the starting 

quarterback started the game going  the

first series only. I  understand  that  a

coach doesn't  want  his quarterback  to

play a lot in meaningless games however

in recent years the offense  has gotten

off to slow starts so why not go at least 

a couple series. 

The NFL  is  looking to expand to 18 regular

season  games. This could happen  as early 

as next season. They do so then the teams 

will be down to two preseason games. The

coaches often evaluate what happens in

practice as much as the games. 

Going to 18 games wonder if rosters will

be expanded as well.  At least the beginning 

of the season.  Figure baseball did so. 

The Seahawks didn't  play either their 

starting and number two running backs.

Kenny McIntosh  who looks to be the

third running back had one carry for

56 yards and a touchdown. We see who

might be the 4th running back. Special 

teams will decide who goes there. 

Tyler Lockett was the only  wide receiver 

who didn't play. Tight end has issues with

having healthy  players so see sticks there 

and who may begin on the injured list.

The Seahawks  have a lot of cornerbacks 

so to see who sticks and who doesn't we

will find out. The linebackers will be like

the tight ends who will  be  healthy.  Who

they go at edge rusher  and the defensive 

line will be interesting to. In the next few

days let you know what familiar names

made the cut and who didn't.  Go Hawks!

Giants Even the Series

Neither the starting pitchers did as 

they expected in this win by the 

Giants over the Mariners Saturday 

afternoon 4-3 in Seattle.

Blake Snell went three innings giving

up two runs. He was wild walking

six batter allowing the Mariners scoring

two runs in the second inning to tie

the game. Snell didn't give up a hit in his 

three innings.

First inning Kirby threw a lot of pitches

The Giants were able to.load the bases.

They had a sacrifice fly on a great catch

by Arzorena. He had the wind knocked

out but OK otherwise. Kirby threw more

in the second allowing the second run.

The had another run in the fifth before

Kirby had to leave.

The Giants scored a run in the seventh

and the Mariners followed in the bottom

of the inning.  

The Mariners start Woo on Sunday

afternoon. See they can take the 

series.

Mariners Rally For Win

The Seattle Mariners had their first win

under Dan Wilson as his first game as

manager.

The San Francisco Giants got off

scoring five runs with three homers

off of Luis Castillo. He was able to

go six innings. Mariners only run at 

that point was home run by Luke

Raley. 

In the eighth inning the Mariners 

had four runs to tie at 5-5. They 

had sex singles straight showing

more success without hitting a

home. Gabe Speier pitched the

eighth after being recalled from

Tacoma. Reliever Yimi Garcia had 

to go on the injured list.

The tenth inning Leo Rivas had his

second hit of the night for the 

walk off. Mariner 6 Giants 5

Next the Saturday game is in the

afternoon.  Seattleite native Blake

Snell will start for the Giants while

George Kirby goes for the Mariners.

The Mariners have had trouble

against lefties this season. See

if they can turn things around.

Most likely they will go with a

right handed hitting lineup.

We will probably see Dylan Moore at 

third base. Mitch Garver might be

at catcher since he has caught Kirby

a lot this season. Justin Turner will

probably be at first base. We hope

Victor Robles back in and out in

right field as Julio was back in

center field Friday night. In that

case Mitch Haniger at dh. Go.M's!

Seahawks Friday

Thursday moves the Mariners made

moves news of the Seahawks to

Friday.  

The Seahawks have made a couple

trades before the final preseason on

Saturday against the Cleveland Browns.

Starting Sunday will have trim roster 

down 53 players. They will be able add

ones back to the practice squad if not

picked up  by another team. They may make other moves after initial cut downs.

Player being on injured will be made as well. Michael Jackson cornerback was traded to the Carolina Panthers for rookie 

linebacker Michael Barrett who played at 

Michigan. Coach Macdonald is familiar

with him when at Michigan. Jackson didn't

have a good season last year so not a

big surprise. Barrett will bring help where

the Seahawks have had injured players.

On Friday edge rusher Darrell Taylor to the

Chicago Bears for a 2025 sixth round  pick.

Taylor has been limited since he isn't great

against the run. See if any other players

will be traded too. Go Hawks!

Mariners Manager Expected To Be Fired

The announced hasn't  been  made official  yet  

however Mariners  manager Scott  Servais 

will be fired and be replaced by  former 

Mariners  catcher Dan Wilson. 

Wilson is still  popular  as  not only as a

member of  the  Mariners  hall of fame.

He has been on quite of few broadcast 

as an analyst  as well  as working  with 

minor leaguers and  specifically  the

catchers. 

The road trip that just ended where the

Mariners  went 1-8 showed if they could 

find a way to still make the playoffs would

be hard to do. Can't  blame it all on the

manager the position  players have to

take credit for the downfall  as well and

the coaches too.  Whatever message 

Servais  was giving the results were not 

happening. 

Most of the batting  averages of the players

we're at a career low. At least those who

have been on the team all season long. 

Whether things will turn around or not

the starting  pitchers  deserve to have 

the support. I  am  surprised  they have 

been able to do as well  as  they  have.

you Scott  Servais for what you have done

Dodgers Sweep Mariners

The Mariners ended the road trip

1-8. Not a good sign when you

are expected to be in race for

your division and the playoffs.

Final Dodgers 8 Mariners 4

The score was not as close as

the scores shows.

The Dodgers had five runs in the.

fifth to out out of reach.

Logan Gilbert had a tough outing

in this one. When the team is scoring

few runs the starting pitching is

going fail on some occasions as

well. They are only human. Gilbert

was removed in fifth inning with 

two outs. The bullpen gave up only 

three his and no more runs were

scored.

This a blessing the Mariners have

a day off on Thursday. We could 

see some changes before the

Mariners host the  San Francisco

Giants on Friday.

We could find out Scott Servais

is dismissed on Thursday. Nothing

wouldn't surprise me. As we have

seen on this road trip anything

sill. 

We hope Friday the Mariners recouple 

losses at home beginning last month..

The Mariners had changed up the

lineup but it wasn't into the Mariners

favor.

Mariners Lose Again

The Mariners got off to a good

start scoring two runs in the first

inning and another one in the third.

Unfortunately like their weakness 

all season they couldn't add on.

In fact they couldn't muster a hit

until the ninth when it was too late.

The Dodgers are much like the Astros 

where they can score runs in at least a couple innings at will. Bryce Miller

 gave up two runs in the 4th inning.

He was replaced by Collin Snider

who has been the best reliever recently.

Snider went one and two-thirds innings.

Tayler Saucedo came in the sixth inning

getting the final out. He surrendered

the tying run in the seventh.

Andre Munoz came in the seventh inning

getting the final two outs. Came out for

the eighth. He hit a batter with two strikes

and walked one too before the blow that

cost the game.  Jason Heyward pinch

hitting hit a three-run homer and there

she all wrote.

Now the Mariners will see whether they

can win the final game of a terrible

road trip. If they do the record on this

trip will be 2-7. The Mariners will have

to play at home like they did against 

the Phillies and Mets to have a chance

to.make the playoffs. Go.M's.

Mariners Shut Out By Dodgers

The Mariners haven't done well

in opening game of a series 

except when they swept tge.

Mets.

Bryan Woo pitched another good

game until the seventh inning when

he gave up two runs in the seventh.

This include giving up a home run.

Yimi Garcis came in and gave up

a home run in the seventh as well.

Dodgers 3 Mariners 0

The Mariners had only two hits.

Julio and Justin Turner had the 

two hits. They had only two walks

and 12 strike outs. That is all you

need to know. L

Bryce Miller starts tomorrow. See

if the offense can bounce back

on.Tuesday night. It continues for 

the pitchers where they would have

to pitch a no hitter to have a chance. 

Things don't change around pretty

soon the Mariners will need to make 

changes whether for the rest of this

season or next year.  Go M's.

Mariners End Losing Streak

The Seattle Mariners ended their

five game losing streak on the

road beating the Pittsburgh 

Pirates 10-3. 

Mariners showed what they can do 

however we wished they could do

it more often.  Cal Raleigh hit a

two run homer in the first inning.

Josh Rojas had a home run in

the fourth and seventh in by Dominic

Canzone. Good news they had six

runs not to do with home run.

Every starting player had a hit in

the game. Victor Robles back at

hitting well having two more hits.

Luke Raley, Josh Rojas and Leo

Rivas had two hits as well. The

Mariners gave Randy Arozarena

the day off so Raley played left

field.

George Kirby rebounded after having

a poor outing in Detroit. He went six

games giving up  four hits and two walks 

along with two runs..

The Mariners go to Los Angeles on

a good note to face the Dodgers.

Bryan Woo starts the first game

followed by Bryce Miller and Logan

Gilbert. The Mariners seem to do

better against better teams so we 

hope for success to end the road

trip. Go M's.

Seahawks Lose Second Preseason Game

The Seahawks lost to the Tennessee

Titans Saturday evening  in Nashville

16-15.

The difference was the Titans made 

two field goals in the second half.

The Seahawks led at half time 12-10.

Geno Smith didn't start this game

either. He didn't play game as well.

We should see him in next week for

the final preseason game.

Most of the starting unit didn't play

at all in this one. Gave the backups

a good chance to plays.

A good reason the Titans won was 

they did play there first and second

quarterbacks throughout the game.

Both players have a lot of experience.

Sam Howell showed right now in

game play why he is the second

quarterback. PJ Walker the third

quarterback played the second half.

The Seahawks got a field goal

late in the fourth quarter. The major

reason was an interception by a

cornerback for them. 

There really wasn't anything going 

for the Seahawks in the second half.

Most likely was lack of play by the

Seahawks offense especially the

offensive line. The Titans defense

had some answers to. 

The Seahawks will play at home

next Saturday night against the

Cleveland Browns. We should see

the starters at least for a series

or two or may for the first half.

The regular season will begin 

Sunday afternoon on September

8 at home against the Denver

Broncos. This time former 

Seahawks quarterback Russell

Wilson will not be playing. He

noe is with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Mariners Lose Again

The Mariners had a Saturday afternoon

game in Pittsburgh. They lost for the

fifth time in a row to start this road

trip. All after sweeping the New York

Mets.

Emotions can go up and down for

a baseball team and their fans too.

The offense hss struggled for much

of the season however right now it

looks like the worst of the season.

Manager Scott Servais is trying to

find out why. 

The team has been terrible most of 

the time at the plate. The bullpen 

hasn't done well either especially in

Pittsburgh. The starters after Bryan

Woo and Bryce Miller might stressing

as well. Luis Castillo went five and 

one-thirds inning giving up four runs.

The bullpen three runs as well.

Highlights Victor Robles had a couple hits. After hitting well he is hitting .161 so far in 

August. Polanco has a couple hits to

is having a solid .275 in August so far.

These two drove in both the Mariners

runs. Julio Rodriguez back in the lineup

at dh had another hit.

Final was Pittsburgh 7 Seattle 2

We hope the Mariners can salvage

a game in Pittsburgh on Sunday

before heading to Los Angeles

taking on the Dodgers for three

starting on Monday.

The Mariners are now the and a half

behind the Houston Astros. The only

good point is the Texas Rangers 

continue to lose.

The Seahawks play this evening in

Nashville in their second preseason

game against the Tennessee Titans.

The Seahawks who plated a good

game Los Angeles against the Chargers.

We see if the defense can continue 

well and the offense can improve on

offense. We hope to see Geno Smith

start at quarterback. We will have details

how they did. Go Hawks!

Mariners Lose Now Four In A Row

Logan Gilbert didn't have one of his

best starts however the Mariners 

struggles continue at the plate. 

The Mariners had only five hits

on Friday's game  at Pittsburgh.

Luke Raley hit a two run homer

in the fourth inning. The Pirates

scored a run in the bottom of

the fourth, two in the fifth and

final to in the seventh.  Jorge

Polanco hit a solo home run

in the ninth but the Mariners

came short losing 5-3. 

We have to see whether the Mariners

can find their way back in final two

games of the series. The Mariners 

go to Los Angeles to face the Dodgers

Monday thru Wednesday before coming

home.  Go M's.

Mariner Are Swept

The Seattle Mariners were swept 

by the Tigers losing in Detroit 2-1.

Disappointing since they could or 

should have swept the Tigers.

Another great outing  this time

Bryce Miller like Bryan Woo on

Wednesday night. He shut out

the Tiger over seven innings

and giving up two hits. 

The Mariners offense only had 

one hit and one run which didn't

happen on the hit. The one run

walk by Justin Turner in the first

inning with Jorge Polanco scoring

with the bases loaded. Victor

Robles had the only hit.

The Mariners need make changes 

since nothing has worked except 

against the Phillies and Mets as of

Mariners Lose in Ten Innings

Bryan Woo pitched well shutting

out the Tigers for seven innings.

Woo gave up only four hits while

striking out six. The trouble was

the Mariners scored two runs.

Julio Rodriguez was up with

the bases loaded in the eighth

inning. He reinjured himself

before hitting a single driving

in a run. Julio had to leave the

game. Most likely won't play

Thursday afternoon  but looks

hr won't have to go on the

injured list.

Yimi Garcia gave up a two-run

homer to Kerry Carpenter who

has hit well in this series against

the Mariners. The Tigers were able

to get a single to win the game

UB gge 10th. The Mariners are now

two and half behind the Astros.

The Mariners now have to come alive

again. Go M's.

Mariners Blown Away

There is not a lot to say with the

Mariners losing 15-1. With George 

Kirby on the mound felt like it would

be a close game however Kirby didn't 

last long. 

George is a very competitor so his

next start will be against the Pittsburgh

Pirates so he will likely go back to what

he has done. Kirby went three and two-

thirds innings. He gave up 12 hits and 11 runs. The defense was such that he had 

only six earned runs while 11 scored.

He left right after giving up his third

home run of the game. 

Trent Thornton came in and gave up

three runs. He gave up a home run in 

two innings and three runs. Troy Taylor 

gave up a solo home run.

There wasn't much with the offense

either. They had only three and Julio

had a double the only extra base hit

of the game.

Now we hope the Mariners get back 

on course with Bryan Woo on the

mound. Go M's. 

Seahawks Make Moves and More

Now that the Seahawks have played

and won their first preseason game

on Saturday moves will continue to

happen.

On Sunday they signed center

Connor Williams to a contract. 

He looks to be the Seahawks

starting center. According to

head coach Mike Macdonald

they will get him ready for

the opening game of the season.

Means we likely won't see him

in the remaining two preseason

games unless an injury happens.

On Sunday the Seahawks traded

former Husky center Nick Harris

to the Cleveland Brown's. The

Seahawks sent a 2026 seventh

round pick along with him. In

return the Seahawks receive

a 2026 sixth round pick..

Most of the moves the Seahawks

will make after third preseason

game. Some minor moves beforehand.

In other NFL news former Washington

Huskies edge rusher Bralen Trice was

injured Friday night. He was a third

round pick of the Atlanta Falcons this

year. He was injured and he will miss the

full season. 

In baseball news Mariners outfielder

Victor Robles was signed to a two-

year contract extension on Monday.

Now that Julio is back we will see a

lot of outfield in Randy Arozarena in

left , Julio in center and Robles in

right. This means we will see Mitch

Haniger at dh more. Garver may dh

some when not catching once a week.

At this point Luke Raley will be at 

first base primarily against right handers.

It will allow Justin Turner to come

off the bench when he isn't starting.

The Mariners start a series in Detroit

on Tuesday. We are hoping for a better

result this week instead. Go.M's.

Mariners Sweep Mets

The Seattle Mariners were on Sunday

Night baseball for the first time in

20 years.  They beat the Mets 12-1. 

The Mets got their only run on a

homer in the sixth inning. The Mariners 

swept the Mets. I am sure they were

glad to get out of town. On the nine 

game home stand they were 6-3.

They took two out of three against

the Philadelphia Phillies then lost two 

of three to the Tigers which could have

been a sweep except a great ninth

inning ended in a walk off double with

the bases loaded by Mitch Haniger. 

The Mets were shutout by the Mariners

in the first two games. I am sure they

are glad to go back home. 

Julio Rodriguez was back in the lineup

while Ryan Bliss was sent back to

triple A. Julio dh however went blank

striking out all five times.

Cal Raleigh was the hitter of the game

hitting two home runs and driving in 

five runs. Cal now has 26 home runs

on the season and 75 RBIs. Hitting 30

should be easy with 43 games remaining.

Luis Castillo went six innings before

going to the bullpen. Troy Taylor who

was just called up pitched the ninth.

It was his major league debut coming

up from double A. It says something

being the Mariners #23 prospect. He

dies have the stuff to be a Mariners

high leverage reliever if he keeps after

it. 

The Mariners start their road trip

in Detroit so they will look at payback.

Though Tuesday's starters aren't

announced yet George Kirby should

start though. Go M's.

Seahawks Win Opening Preseason Game

The Seahawks beat the Chargers

in Los Angeles  16-3  Saturday

late afternoon.

Like most preseason games not

to exciting. Offensively Geno Smith, 

Kenny Walker 3, Tyler Lockett and

DK Metcalf didn't play. Most likely

see some of  all four in game 2

preseason next week.

Sam Howell who acquired in a trade

during the offseason started at quarterback instead of Geno. Also

PJ Walker played at qb. Zach Charbonnet

is expected to share running back

with Walker only carried the ball only

twice. Kenny McIntosh right now the

number three rb led 40 yards on eight

carries.

At wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba

was the only starter who played and 

caught just two passes. Dareke Young

who is trying to make the team as

a backup receiver lead with 3 catches

for 44 yards.  The Seahawks didn't

score until the second  quarter where

they had two touchdowns. The second

touchdown was after Seahawks safety

Kobe Bryant intercepted a passes. The

Seahawks had a field goal in the 4th

quarter. 

Though the offense didn't look exciting 

they did have the ball almost twice as

the Chargers. The defense helped make 

it that way to. Seahawks number one

pick this year Byron Murphy 2 showed

why he could make a difference on the

team this season.

In baseball the Mariners shutout the

New York Mets  4-0. This means they

have won the series and could sweep

on Sunday. Logan Gilbert went seven

innings and had eleven groundouts.

He walked one while striking out six.

Yimi Garcia pitched the eighth while

Andre Munoz took care of the ninth.

The Mariners scored three runs in

the first inning. They had two doubles

in the first to make the three runs.

The Mariners didn't score again until

the seventh inning. Justin Turner hit

a single bringing in Randy Arozarena 

for his second time of the game.

Luis Castillo will start Sunday so we

will see whether he help the Mariners

sweep the Mets. Go.M's.

Mariners Shutout Mets

After beating the Tigers in final

gsme of that  series on Thursday

it was important the Mariners started

the series against the New York 

Mets by besting them.

Mariners ended up shutting out the

Mets 6-0. The Mariners have done

quite well when scoring four runs or 

more.

The Mariners scored first when Ryan

Bliss just called up started at second

base in place of  Jorge Polanco has a 

small injury hit a two-run homer with

Mitch Haniger on base.

The scored stayed that way until the

seventh inning so still anyone's game.

In the bottom of the 7th Mitch Garver

walked followed by Dylan Moore who

was starting at third. Ryan Bliss grounded

out with Garver and Moore moving to

second and third. It was now two outs.

Leo Rivas starting at shortstop hit

the ball the other way to score Garver

and Moore. Gave the Mariners a four

run lead.

Rivas stole second base and Victor

Robles walked. The two ended up

stealing third and second. Arozarena

ended up walking after change of

pitchers. Cal Raleigh hit a single 

scoring Rivas and Robles which 

took care of the Mets.

The Mariners decided to start

both Bliss and Rivas ending up 

being a smart decision. Both

have speed helping the Mariners

that way too..

Bryce Miller starter and went six

innings for the Mariners. Miller

has been pitching quite well recently.

Mariners pitched  Collins Snider 

following Miller, Austin Voth and

Trent Thornton. This allows the 

Mariners taking everyone instead

of those three to play Saturday and.

Sunday. Logan Gilbert will start

on Saturday. Go Mariners. 

Seahawks First Preseason Game

Finally, the time has arrived  for the 
Seahawks first preseason game.
Saturday  the Seahawks  will be in
Los Angeles  to take on the Chargers
at 4:05 pm Seattle time.

The rules of kickoffs have changed so 
will be interesting to watch for the
first. The Seahawks have new schemes
both offensively and defensively. It will 
be interesting  to Ryan Grubb's offense
compared to what he had at Washington. 

The defense of head coach Mike Macdonald 

will be interesting  to  see  as well.

Geno Smith  missed some playing time

recently for minor injuries so he isn't 

expected to start. We will  see Sam Howell

and PJ Walker play at quarterback.  Most

of the offense starters will see action at

least one series before giving  way to the

backups.  The same should go for the

defense too.

Those who are Seahawks  and  Mariners 

fans will be able to see both. I  will  have 

stories  on both. 

Walkoff Win

The Mariners offense struggled

again for most of the game though

the Tigers were using an opener. 

The Tigers used four pitchers.

Bryan Woo pitched well going

six and two- third innings for 

second straight quality. He 

gave up three runs in the 5th 

inning. 

Luke Raley hit a home run in the

sixth inning to give them a chance.

Mariners bullpen didn't give up

a hit the rest of the way.

Raley started the rally in the 9th 

with a check swing where the bat

hit third base..Arozarena had a hit

moving Raley to third. Two outs

happen then Jorge Polanco took a 

walk. Mitch Haniger hit a ball to right 

field where the fielder dived for

the final out however the ball got

past him and all three runners

scored. 

The win took some luck however

the Mariners needed it. They now 

start a three game series against

the New York Mets. Bryce Miller

starts for the Mariners on Friday.

Mariners Lose Another To Tigers

It was expected by many fans anyway

that the Mariners would win two games

at least to the Tigers at home after

beating the Phillies. Game two

was the game most likely they

would lose facing the Tigers number

one pitcher.

George Kirby gave up a home run off

the leadoff batter for the Tigers in

the first. Kirby was only able to go

five innings mainly by throwing 30

pitches in the first inning. He gave 

up a run in the third and fourth inning.

Cal Raleigh hit a home run in the 4th 

inning making it 3-2. It stayed that 

way untin the 9th. In the 8th inning

hit a ball that looked like Cal would

have  another two-run homer with

Randy Arozarena on base again.

Tigers center fielder Parker Meadows

caught the ball above the fence to

rob Cal of the home run. The Mariners 

would have seen to have another real

shot in bottom of the 9th however that

wasn't meant to be.

The Mariners brought in reliever

Jonathan Hernandez who they

activated on August 3 after picking 

him off waivers from Texas. He 

walked the first two batters then

able to get an out before giving up

a hit. They brought in Trent Thornton

who gave up three hits before getting

two outs. Why they didn't start

Thornton in the 9th is a good question.

The Mariners went quietly in the bottom 

of the ninth. In his post game conference

manager Scott Servais that the Mariners

didn't have all the relievers available. 

Fine and then tried to put a spin on it.

He said  that had Hernandez had pitched

well previously.  The fact is this the third

game he had pitched for the Mariners.  

Final Tigers 6 Mariners 2

Bryan Woo starts Thursday against the

Tigers. We hope he does well and the

offense turns around.  Cal and Arozarena

were the offense for the most part. At

least don't get swept. Go M's. 

Mariners Lose Tuesday

I thought the Mariners  had a

good shot go win this game. 

They were playing a team 

that is subpar .500 and starting

against a pitcher who was in

the minor leagues until July.

The Mariners had just taken

two out of three from the

Phillies one of the best teams

in the major leagues. It doesn't

get better on Wednesday facibb

the Tigers best pitcher. Also

Luis Castillo hasn't beaten the

Tigers either. He gave up three

runs in six innings toward the

Mariners 4-2 loss. Castillo gave

up eight huts however didn't walk

a batter. Should have had better

results.

The Mariners offense which has

struggled early in games scored

a run on a solo home run  in the 

fifth inning. They added the second

run in the ninth inning.

George Kirby will start Wednesday

for the Mariners. We hope he does enough for them to win. Go M's.

Mariners Take On Detroit Tigers

Tuesday the Seattle Mariners begin 

a three game series the Detroit Tigers

at home. The Mariners are 6-4 in there

last ten games while Tigers are 3-7.

The Tigers have a slightly better record

on the road then at home. They have

a -24 run differential while Mariners

are +24. This means the Tigers are

losing a lot of close games while 

the Mariners are winning those

games. 

The Tigers are 4th in the AL central.

Only the White Sox have a worse

record. The top three teams in the

central each have a better record 

than the Mariners. The Mariners

play the Tigers on their next road 

trip. 

The Mariners who have done well

in opening game of a series especially

at home face starter Keider Montero.

He has started most of his games in

July when he was recalled from triple

A. 

Montero has a 1-5 record with an era

of 6.18. His last start was August 1

at home against Kansas City. He

pitched the opening of that series

where the Royals won 7-1. Montero

went seven innings giving up four

runs on six hits.

Unless you follow the Tigers they

don't have position players that

would be familiar to many fans. 

It will be important to shut down

the top five players in the lineup. 

They have better batting averages

then most of the Mariners hitters.

The Tigers have three hitters who

have double figures in home runs.

They are at top of the lineup as 

well. 

The Mariners should win at least 

two games in the series. The Tigers

best chance is winning the second

game of the series. Right now they

haven't announced who will start 

the third game.

On Saturday the Mariners added

right hander Jonathan Hernandez 

who they had acquired on waivers

from the Texas Rangers. At this

point we may not see a lot of him 

being the 8th reliever in the bullpen.

Lefty Jonathan Diaz was optioned 

back to triple A . Diaz didn't look

good in his appearances out of the

bullpen. Hernandez could be a step 

up. 

Since acquiring Randy Arozarena

and Justin Turner run production

has improved. We hope it continues

along with hoping Julio Rodriguez

will be activated soon. JP Crawford

likely won't be back until the end

of August. Go M's. 

Washington Huskies Fall Camp

The Washington Huskies fall camp

started last Wednesday. The season

begins at the end of August so  they

will be quite busy.

This will be the first season under

head coach Jedd Fisch. The players

will have to know the new offense 

and defense. How much it will be

like was run at Arizona where Fisch 

was at his previous stop we will 

find out.

Fisch is primarily an offensive coach

so the offense will be most like what

he has run before. How much depends

on the players on the team. 

Defense will be run by coordinator Steve

Belichick the son of former New England

Coach Bill.  How much the defense is

like he had at New England we will find out.

The formation looks like what the Huskies

had last year however the scheme could be

totally different. I am sure the key is to 

stop the run much better than the Huskies have had the last several years. As far

as pass defense get back close to what

it once was. It may look different however

have the same results.

The quarterback is expected to be transfer

Will Rogers. The passing game might be

similar as to what they have had the last

couple years. It will be difficult to match

though new. The question mark is the

offensive line since they have had to fix it since losing the starting five fro the draft 

and transfer. 

The tight ends will be mostly a new group.

We could see more passing to the wide receivers and the tight ends doing blocking. This at least at the beginning. I am sure we see a few thrown their way. 

One group they have little experience

on defense is the edge rushers. We hope they come up  real fast to make a difference. 

The big thing about the defense last year

was they would make adjustments at

halftime and often looked better. The

main thing was they made some great

stops along the way. We hope to see

some if that on this year's tea.

During the season we will have a look 

at the opposing team and what history 

they have had against the Huskies. New

to the Big Ten the teams in conference

the Huskies may have not played against

them often. They do have history against

Michigan so that will be interesting. 

It will be hard to match last year's team.

If they go 9-3 that should be a good 

accomplishment. 

The regular season we will write highlights

of the game. The Huskies offensive and 

defensive players along with the top takeaways.

Mariners Are Shutout

The Mariners who would have liked

to have swept the Phillies instead 

were shutout 6-0.  Beating one of 

the top teams in the National League

twice is a good accomplishment.

The game actually isn't as bad as 

the score indicates. Kyle Schwarber

the leadoff hitter for Phillies hit a.home run on the third pitch of the game. Logan

Gilbert ended up shutting them out

the rest of his time on the mound.

He went six innings giving up four 

hits including home run and struck

out seven without a walk. Logan is

now 6-8 and most of his losses he

has had little run support like this

one.

The Phillies scored the other five runs

in the eighth inning. Yimi Garcia gave

up two runs the first time since become

a Mariner. He gave up a solo homer in

there too. Tayler Saucedo gave up the

other three runs including two home runs. He has given up seven runs in three of 

his last four games.  Tayler hss an era 

of 3.94 showing how well he had been

pitching. The Mariners will either send

him down to Tacoma or see what his 

problems have been or both.

The Mariners had only three hits on

the day.  Victor Robles, Cade Marlowe

who came in for him later in the came

Cal Raleigh. Justin Turner had his

first day off since joining the Mariners.

I am not sure ehst that all means. 

Having Monday off the Mariners

will be back on Tuesday against

Detroit Tigers at home. Luis Castillo 

will start for the Mariners on Tuesday.

The Astros and the Rangers both

lost so things stay the same. Go M's.

Mariners Win Extra Innings

The Seattle Mariners beat the

Philadelphia Phillies 6-5 in ten

innings. The gsme to was a 

game from win as well which

they have had trouble during

the season to accomplish.

This is now August which

on record the Mariners best

month of the season. Last 

year August helped them

even have a chance to make

the playoffs. The Mariners

continue having another good

August it will put them in good

position to win the division.

The Phillies scored their first 

run in the first inning. The 

second, third and fourth were

scoreless by both teams. The

Phillies scored their remaining

four runs in the fifth inning.

Mitch Haniger hit a solo home

run in the bottom of the fifth

to put them on the scoreboard.

In the sixth inning the Mariners

tied the game with four innings.

This was in the manor where 

they didn't hit a single home run.

A way we have been looking for

them to do most of the season.

Randy Arozarena who has paid

dividends already for the Mariners

led off the sixth with a double.

After CSL Raleigh struck out

Justin Turner was hit by a pitch

putting runners on first and 

second. Jorge Polanco didn't

start Friday hit a single to bring

in Arozarena. 

Dylan Moore struck out making

it two outs. Mitch Haniger who

has a tough season so far ended

up walking mskunb the bases

loaded. Luke Raley pinch hit for

Mitch Garver hit a double bring

in two runs. Josh Rojas hits a

single to bring in Haniger and

Luke Raley was out at the plate

hoping to put the Mariners ahead.

Neither team were able to score

the next three innings. Phillies

were unable to score in the top

of the tenth. Arozarena was the

runner at second to start the 10th.

Cal Raleigh was intentionally walked.

It was a good move but backfired

on the Phillies. Justin Turner flied

for the first out. Jason Vosler pinch

hit for Leo Rivas who had come in

for Polanco ended up striking. 

It looked likely the game would go to 

the eleventh however Dylan Moore

was hit by a pitch to load the bases.

We will take a win whatever way

happens well Mitch Haniger to bring

in Arozarena from third for the win.

A very good win for the Mariners.

On the pitching side for the Mariners

starter Bryce Miller went only four

and a third innings gave up four of

the five runs.  Tayler Saucedo came

In was able to get one out however

surrendered the final run. He gave 

up two runs. Saucedo has been 

struggling as of late after having a

good start to the season. JT Chargois

making his season debut for the

Mariners got the final out of the

fifth and pitched the sixth inning

as well. The Mariners ended up 

using six relievers in the game. 

From Chargois on they didn't 

give up a hit though four walks.

Logan Gilbert will start Sunday

afternoon after his worst start

of the season in his last start.

We know that he can rebound

and it is important he can pitch

deep into the game to rest the 

bullpen.

The Mariners have needed off day

on Monday then take on the Detroit

Tigers for three followed by the

NY Mets next Friday through Sunday.

The Astros lost Saturday 6-1 to the

Tampa Bay Rays so the Mariners 

are up by one game.  The Mariners

have 50 games remaining on the

season. If they split the games the

Mariners will have 84 wins. We hope 

for a few more wins than that. Go M's.

Mariners Will Going Away

The Mariners beat the Philadelphia

Phillies going away in the opening

game in the first game of the series.

Victor Robles hit a home run on the

first pitch in the bottom of the first

inning.  In the second inning Luke 

Raley hit a three-run homer to the

upper deck of right field. It was the

second longest home run ever in

T-Mobile Park. Justin Turner had

a grand slam in the second inning

too. Off to the races.

Final Mariners 10 Phillies 2

Bryan Woo went the most innings

as he had as a Mariner for seven 

innings. He gave up five hits and

six strikeoutd. No walks in the 

game. The Phillies had their two

runs in the 9th inning off of Jhonathan

Diaz. I am sure he won't be on the 

roster much longer.

Bryce Miller who had an outstanding

start in his last game will start

Saturday. Gregory Santos was placed

on the injured list. We hope he is

there for only 10 days. The Mariners

activated reliever JT Chargois who

they acquired at the trading deadline. 

The Houston Astros won to so still

tied with the Mariners while the Rangers

lost now being 5.5 games back.

Seahawks Defensive Line

The Seahawks are in their second

week of training camp for the upcoming

2024 season. Our first look at the

new look team will be on August 10th

when the Seahawks take on the Chargers

in Los Angeles for first preseason

game.

It is sort of  strange not to call them

the San Diego Chargers.  The Seahawks

under new head coach who plays a 

different defense. Last year the Seahawks

had the 31st defense against the run.

Everyone in the Seahawks are expecting

a much improved defense in this area.

If the Seahawks play in a lot of close

games this season it will be important

to stop the run. Also this will be a help passing defense as well.

The Seahawks signed Jonathan Hankins

a veteran who played last year for Dallas.

He has been impressive in camp against

the run. Whether he start or not we should

see him a lot against the run.

The Seahawks likely will go with nine

defensive lineman. Expect them to be

moved around too. We could see Byron Murphy ll  the top draft pick at nose tackle

well as the outside.  Mary variations

will happen.

The Washington Huskies and the WSU

Cougars just started camp so we will

what news comes out too.
