Mariners Offense Explode

Tuesday night in Detroit the
Mariners offense exploded scoring
six runs in the third inning. It has been
a while since they have done this.

Ty France hit a home run in the first
inning among his three hits on the
night. Ty has been struggling as of
late so hopefully this means we will
see the real Ty for a while.

The third inning Cal Raleigh led of
with a home run and the hits kept
on coming. Cal came up a second
time in the inning giving him a
chance for two home runs in the inning. Though he didn't have another
hit he was able to hit a fly ball to
score another run.

Carlos Santana added another couple
runs with a home run in the fifth inning.
George Kirby who was pitching well
went five innings. Kirby gave up two hits, a walk and struck out five.

The Mariners with a big lead decided
to give Chris Flexen some innings.
Only his third time in relief since
going to the bullpen. Flexen went the
final four innings and recording his
first save. He did give up three runs
late in the game. Hadn't pitch much
so is rusty.

Final Seattle 9 Detroit 3

It will be nice to see the Mariners go
on a roll beginning with Detroit.

Dylan Moore was put on the injured
list and Abraham Toro was recalled.
Toro played second base since JP
is hurt as well. In fact it looks like
Crawford is going on the injured list
to though not official yet. Word came
out shortstop Mason McCoy is
being recalled from Tacoma.

On Thursday the rosters will expand
to 28. With Dylan Moore out Taylor Trammel is expected to be recalled.
The Mariners can use another outfielder especially on  defense.

Matt Boyd the Mariners acquired
at the deadline from the Giants
is expected to be activated on
Thursday as well. The veteran pitcher
and Seattle native has been on rehab.
Boyd is a lefty and the Mariners can
use him out of the bullpen.

Marco Gonzales is scheduled to
pitch Wednesday against Detroit
followed by Logan Gilbert on Thursday.
Robbie Ray and Luis Castillo should
start against Cleveland Friday and
Saturday. George Kirby should start
on Sunday. The Mariners have a
good rotation and with days off have
helped Ray and Castillo pitch against
the best teams like Cleveland. Go M's.

Seattle Seahawks Made Their Cuts

Tuesday is the day the Seattle Seahawks had to get
down to 53 man roster. They could make some moves
Wednesday to add the time and release additional
players. On Thursday add to the practice squad

Defensive back Marquise Blair was the most familiar
name to be cut by the Seahawks. Blair had been hurt
missing most  of his seasons with the team. Also, Justin
Coleman who returned to the Seahawks was cut as well.
He could come back at a lower price as the nickel back.
Freddie Swain wide receiver and punt returner was cut
too. A former seventh round pick was trying to make
another run of making the team. Swain was trying to
make the team as the third receiver and punt returner.
It will be interesting to see the punt returner will be.

Former Washington Huskies quarterback Jacob Eason
tried to make the team  but was cut. He could come
back on the practice squad although didn't play well
against the Dallas Cowboys.

We will see who they may pick up and let loose the
next couple days. Go  Hawks//

Mariners Start Series In Detroit

Tuesday the Mariners start series
against the Tigers in Detroit.

The Tigers are not having a good
season. The Mariners should win two
out of three if not sweep however
we will see.

The question now is the Mariners
going to give contract extensions
to young players like they did for
Julio. I would say Logan Gilbert
and George Kirby have to be at the
top of the list. Cal Raleigh if he
continues like he has since taking
over as starting catcher be next
in line. The Mariners may look to
the off-season or sometime during
next season.

The Mariners should look to extend
Luis Castillo before he becomes a
free agent after next season. I am
sure they are looking into it.

The Seahawks have cut down
the roster to 53 by Tuesday afternoon
so let you know any familiar names
that are on the list. The Seahawks
number one and three pick are expected to start at the two offensive
tackle spots. Cornerbacks maybe
rookies start as well.

The Seahawks first game is on
September 12 so we will let you
know before what the depth chart
looks like. They can pick up players
from other teams by Wednesday.
Stay tuned!

Mariners Take Series

The Mariners took three out of four
against Cleveland at home. A good
sign. Now they go to Detroit for three
beginning on Tuesday then to Cleveland for three more.

Seattle 4 Cleveland 0

Robbie Ray was able to go seven innings giving up three hits and
seven strike outs. No walks included.

With a day off the bullpen will be
rested. George Kirby starts on Tuesday
followed by Marco Gonzales on Wednesday and Logan Gilbert on
Thursday. The Mariners should win
the series even if one of the three
falters. The Tigers have a 50-78
record. As we know the Mariners
sometimes have trouble against
teams not as good as they are.
The pitching is on their side so we
hope the offense had some trouble
in the Cleveland series. Sundays
game the Mariners scored all four
runs with home runs. Dylan Moore
who has struggled this season had
a three run variety while Ty France
had a solo shot. Only four hits on
the day. Hopefully get more hits in
Detroit.

Luis Castillo and Robbie Ray should
start the first two games against
Cleveland followed by Kirby. The
Mariners come home the following
week to face  Chicago White Sox
for three games. Marco Gonzales
and Logan Gilbert start the first two
then Castillo. The Mariners have
Thursday September 8 off then
the Atlanta Braves Friday thru Sunday.
Don't change the rotation at all then
should be Ray, Kirby and Gonzales.
Sounds like September should get
out to a good start.

The Seahawks made some moves
to get down to 53 before the regular
season starts. Tuesday should be
when they are at 53. Cornerbsck
The Brown who had a good season
when he played was put on the PUP
list. Four others who never heard of
were waived. I believe this leaves
the roster st 75. This means 22
more players to be released. This
could mean a few players we have
heard of. The Seahawks can add
several to the practice squad. They
could add a few names as well who
are released from.other clubs.
Stay tuned.

Mariners Lose On Ichiro Night

The night celebrating Ichiro into
the Mariners Hall of Fame was
grand for the fans and players
but they lost to Cleveland 4-3.

It seems the Mariners have some
trouble winning in front of large
crowds at home. We hope that changes.

All three runs the Mariners scored
were on home runs. Too bad no
one was on base.

The game looked like a victory until
Guardians scored three in the eighth
inning. Andre Munoz gave up the
three runs. He has been pitching
well so hopefully recovered from
now on.

Castillo gave up one run in six innings.
Too bad couldn't go another inning.
He threw a lot of pitches. Robbie Ray
goes Sunday afternoon.

Suarez had another homer then Julio
after signing his deal and Jake Lamb
his first as a Mariner which felt good
being from Seattle.

Mariners have Monday off then in Detroit against Tigers followed by
Cleveland for second weekend in a row
on their turf.

Monday we will go over we hope a
Mariners victory and any Seahawks
news.

Mariners Win Overtime

The Seattle Mariners beat Cleveland
for the second game in a row. We will
see them take the series Saturday night. Being four game series the
worst is splitting.

The game went eleven innings with
Mitch Haniger driving in the run
making it 3-2. It certainly good to
have Mitch back. He has made a
difference in several games.

Mitch presence makes the lineup
much better too. He is batting either
third or four in the lineup.

The offense isn't helped without Ty
France not in the lineup right now.
Hope to see him back in and playing
like he should.

It was announced Julio Rodriguez
signing a long extension. Julio gets
the full amount for $410 million we
will see a lot of good baseball here.

Knowing Julio be here for a long time
and his personality the Mariners should needed free agents. Playing
with Julio be a great thing.

I made a mistake the game at Dallas
for the Seahawks was Friday night
instead of Sunday. They lost 27-26.
After the game Geno Smith named
starting quarterback on opening
night September 12.

Geno gets the nod because he
knows the offense better than
Drew Lock  does. We see how
long that lasts.

In a few days we will see how the
roster looks. We will update you
those who make it and possible
those who might be added.

Next Saturday the Washington
Huskies and WSU Cougars have
their opening games. Let you
know how those go too.

Mariners Rebound To Beat Cleveland

Thursday afternoon the Mariners beat
the Cleveland Guardians  3-1 in the opening of series.

Interesting all runs were scored in
the first inning.  Mitch Haniger had
a three-run homer after Cleveland
did there's.

Very nice to see Marco Gonzales pitch
well. I still think the Mariners need to
go with a four man rotation when having a day off. They don't necessarily
do it every time but should do it instead of never.  I believe Luis Castillo
should pitch each five days. They want
to move any others back a day is fine.

The Mariners offense needs to get going once again. Nice to see Haniger
is producing. They need other players
to produce as well. The Mariners need to have at least two players produce
each time out even if it isn't the same
ones.

Eugenio Suarez and Julio Rodriguez
have been the other two besides Haniger as of late. Ty France has
been struggling and needs to get
back where he was. The question
does have an injury or mental block?
Cal Raleigh has done his part on occasion to. We need more of Jesse
Winker.

Mariners Lose Final Against Nationals

The Mariners offense didn't have
it again Wednesday afternoon losing
3-1.

George Kirby had an outstanding
pitching day for the Mariners. Julio
Rodriguez had a home run just before
Kirby exit to tie the game.

Unfortunately the bullpen failed this
time giving up two runs in the 9th
inning.

The Mariners now take on the
Cleveland Guardians Thursday
afternoon in the first of four games.
The Guardians which is weird to
say we hope for the Mariners to take
the opener.

Wednesday the Mariners schedule
for 2023 came out. Now the Mariners
play all the National league teams in
at least one series. The schedule
against the American league West
the games are down 19 to 13 games.
Good if you figure don't have to play
the Houston Astros as often.

The Mariners begin the 2023 season
at home against Cleveland. The first
road trip will include going to Cleveland. Won't see them the rest
of the year. Cleveland is one of
several American league teams not
in their division to play seven times.
The rest will be one series at home
or away.

This Sunday will be the Seahawks
final preseason game at Dallas.
The rosters will be trimmed after
that. There will be a break before
first regular season game against
Russell Wilson and the Denver Broncos. The game will be on
Monday night football on.September
12. Go Hawks

Mariners Best Nationals

I am sure most everyone expected the
Mariners to beat the Nationals on
Tuesday night to end two game losing
streak.

Robbie Ray pitched a no.hitter into
the sixth. We hope Ray continues
this way. I do hope the Mariners skip
a spot in the rotation next time have
off day.Playoffs have to go with four manvrotation at the  most. If Marco gets better a different story.

Mitch Haniger had a home run well
as Eugenio Suarez. Took care of all
four runs. Outside of the home runs
the Mariners offense not much. Ray got two outs in the 7th. Munoz struck
out a batter for the third out. Erik
Swanson took care of the fifth.

The Mariners have a day game on Wednesday.

Mariners 4 Nationals 2

Paul Sewald gave up a run in the
9th otherwise the bullpen was good.

The Washington Huskies named
Michael Penix Jr as starting quarterback for opening game on
September 3 against Kent State.
We could see at least two quarterbacks in the game. Go Dawgs

Mariners take on Nationals

The Seattle Mariners taken on the
Washington Nationals in s two game
series starting Tuesday.

The Mariners continue going with a
five day rotation in these two series
coming. I don't agree with it at all as
I have said all along with four days
off during August. This means Luis Castillo will pitch with five days rest.
All the other pitchers to however your
ace shouldn't have to. In fact he has
during these for days off. He could have pitched one more time. They
could have given other pitchers like
Gilbert and Kirby an additional days
off.

I don't really understand Servais wants
to stay with a five man rotation with
days off. I am sure he wants to rest
starters going into September when
they will play with few days off. I can
see that with Gilbert and Kirby for
sure and again don't have to with
Castillo. I hope it works out. They
may have taken the Oakland series if
Castillo hadn't had additional day off.

The Nationals have a worse record
then the A's so.hopefully this means
the Mariners will take both games.

Robbie Ray starts on Tuesday against
the Nationals followed by Kirby which
is fine. Marco Gonzales starts the
first game against Cleveland which I
am not so happy. Marco hasn't pitched
well for the most part since the all-star
break. If they want him to start against
Cleveland I would pitch him the second
or third game.

Starting Gonzales in the opening game
against Cleveland would be fine if the
Mariners used him like an opener going
three innings. I would then bring in
Penn Murfee for an inning then Chris
Flexen for two or three innings followed by the rest of the bullpen in
who is available.

I may sound critical but the Mariners
are in the playoff race. I hate to see
them lose a spot in the playoffs
because they stuck with a five man
rotation when they could have gone
with four in these recent days off.
The Mariners could of used a starter
if necessary out of the bullpen to.
They haven't used Flexen a lot either.
Oh well.

Mariners Lose to Oakland Again

The Mariners lost to the A's 5-3 on
Sunday in another sloppy gain. This means the Mariners were 5-4 on
this road trip. Thankfully they swept
the Angels in three.

For the month of August they are 11-9.
The Mariners took four of six against
the New York Yankees. Though they
have a winning month they could have
done much better. Could have easily
been 13-7 or even 15-5.

Luis Castillo wasn't at his best giving
up four runs in five innings. I believe
it was because he had an extra day
of rest. My opinion he should have
started Saturday or even the series
opening game.

The Mariners have another day off
on Monday. I hope they don't give
him another extra day. The fact he
is expected to be the ace. Castillo
pitches on regular rest he will go
in the second game of the series
against Cleveland on Friday.

Having a line drive thrown at him the
Mariners could have Logan Gilbert
go on Saturday. The Mariners could
skip Marco Gonzales in the rotation
as well. It isn't like he is lighting the
world on fire right now.  This month
with so many days off a four man
rotation is fine but they are not
doing it.

The Mariners had a couple opportunities to score more runs.
They his runners on third base
twice and couldn't get either home.
In the first instance they could have
driven in two runs tying the score
at 3-3.  One time might be acceptable
but a team making the playoffs it
is not.

I am sure some fans are upset how
Castillo pitched but I blame it on
Servais for not starting him yesterday
at least. I am sure they are trying to
setup the rotation in a fine manner
but not how they did it. I hope they
do it different in the future. Having
a five man rotation was not needed
the last week or so.

Mariners Play Sloppy

The Mariners didn't have one of
their best games on Saturday.
They lost 4-3 to Oakland in
10 innings.

Logan Gilbert pitched well for the
most part. He ended up giving up
three runs however happened after
being hit by a line drive the inning
before.

The Mariners had a few opportunities
to score to win plus sloppy play to allow the A's to score didn't help.

In the 10th after not able to score
the Mariners intentionally walked a batter. With another walk loaded
the bases. A high chop hit Diego Castillo wasn't able to handle to
get the runner at home. The Mariners
brought in Sam Haggerty making
five infielders and two outfielders.
Castillo should have had Ty France
field the ball however the runner
may still have been safe.

It isn't always easy to play against
a team that isn't as good as you.

Luis Castillo expected to start Sunday.
The Mariners gave him another extra
dsy off. I expect for how the schedule
works in the future. He will start in
the series against Cleveland.

Suarez Shines Saturday Night

The Seattle Mariners beat the Oakland
A's on the road 10-2. The opening
game of the series Marco Gonzales
started. He was roughed up in the first
inning giving up two runs. He did fine
until the sixth inning when he had to
leave the game with the bases loaded.
The Mariners were leading 6-2. Matt
Brash came in to get the final two
outs without the A's scoring. The Mariners came back in the seventh
inning scoring two runs then followed
by two in the eighth.

Now to Eugenio Suarez, the third baseman had a big night. He had
two homers. The first in the fourth
with a runner on base to put them
up 3-2. The second happened in
the sixth with two runners on base
making it 6-2.

Suarez now leads the Mariners with
22 home runs. Certainly a good season
for the Mariners. Not only hit with
power his defense better than expected. Done an excellent job
taking Kyle Seagers spot. I am sure
the Mariners will make some kind
of move during the off season by
free agency or trade. I am sure Suarez
will be sticking around.

Luis Castillo will start Saturday late
afternoon as the game is on Fox. I
thought Castillo should have started
Friday's game with Thursday's day
off. We will have to see how the Mariners have the rotation setup for
next few times. The Mariners have
Monday off then play two against
the Nationals in Seattle. Castillo won't
start either game. The Mariners play
four at home against Cleveland so
Castillo could start on Thursday unless
give him another day off. They have another day off on the Monday after
that series in Detroit followed  by Cleveland on the road. Castillo could
start in the opener against Tigers
followed by the last game in series
in Cleveland. See how that all works
out. Go.M's.

Seahawks Lose Big Time

The Seahawks didn't play well
in the second preseason game
losing 27-11.

All 11 points were in the second.
Had an opportunity to kick a field
goal late in the first half. The missed
field goal a 48 yard attempt should
have been made since was right in
the middle of the field but the ball
hooked to the right.

The Bears led 17-0 at halftime.
Second touchdown happened when
the Seahawks punt returner allowed
the ball ho through is legs. Never
heard of the punt returner but didn't
help him make the roster for sure.

The Seahawks played all reserved
running backs and receivers. No Tyler
Lockett or DK Metcalf. Geno Smith
didn't have a good game. See what
Drew Lock will do in the final game of
preseason. He missed this game
because of covid.

Jacob Eason former Husky and current
third string Seahawk quarterback
look better. Be interesting to see how
the qb battle goes. I am sure some fans want to see them bring another
qb.

Mariners Sweep Angels

The Seattle Mariners and LA Angels
played a Wednesday afternoon game.
The Mariners won 11-7.

The Mariners were up 7-3 then the
bullpen falter by allowing the Angels
score more runs.

It was one of those days with the ball
flying out. The Mariners had four home runs. Cal Raleigh had two home runs. A
solo in the 5th and a two run in the
9th. Eugenio Suarez a home run in the
5th before Raleigh.  Jesse Winker had
a two run homer in the 6th.

The Mariners have Thursday off before
playing A's in Oakland.

Mariners Do It Again

Seattle 8 Angels 2

For the second time the Mariners
scored big in the 9th inning.
Robbie Ray had a rough start giving
up two runs then settled down.

The Mariners were being no hit
heading into the sixth inning when
Adam Frazier had a single and ended
up scoring one the two runs to tie.

The eighth inning the Mariners scored
a run to go ahead. They ended up
scoring five runs including a triple by
Frazier and a two run homer by Julio
Rodriguez to top it off.

Now the Mariners see whether they
can sweep the Angels on Wednesday.
George Kirby goes for them.

Even if they lose they will be even on
this road trip heading into Oakland
for three. The Mariners will have
Thursday off. This means you can
watch Seahawks second preseason
game without interference.

Were the standings and wild card
race stay the same as now the
Mariners would start the playoffs
against Tampa Bay in Seattle. Go M's.

Mariners Win In Ninth

Luis Castillo didn't pitch like his
first starts with Mariners but still
was a quality start. The same for
Ohtani. They both ended up going
six innings giving up two runs.
It was up to the bullpen.

The score even until the ninth.
In.the ninth the Mariners speed
on the base paths with Haggerty,
Moore and Rodriguez they ended up
scoring for runs. Add Ty France
scoring a run to.

The Mariners bullpen of Diego Castillo,
Munoz and Sewald gave up no runs.
Munoz was the only one to give up
hits.

Robby Ray takes the mound Tuesday.
Hope for another win to take the series. The Mariners are again at the
top of the wild card race.

Now Seahawks news. They traded defensive back Ugo Amadi to the
Philadelphia Eagles for wide receiver
JJ Arcega-Whiteside. He was drafted
by the Eagles a few picks ahead of
DK Metcalf. Looks like the Seahawks
may have their third receiver.

The Seahawks waived four players
and put receiver Cody Thompson on
injured reserve. They had to be down
Tuesday to 86 players.

The Seahawks next game is Thursday
night at home against the Chicago Bears.

Rangers Take Series

It isn't easy to win on.the road
however the Mariners need to
best the lesser teams. The Texas
Rangers are one of those.

The Mariners remind me of the Pete
Carroll-Russell Wilson Seahawks.
Do just enough to win. That is fine
against teams like the Yankees and
those who are battling for the playoffs.
Teams like the Rangers and now the
Angels have to win by more than one
run.

Logan Gilbert pitched OK but gave up
three runs. The biggest trouble was
walking four batters which isn't like
him. The Mariners need to see more
the first half of the season Gilbert. Not only important to make the playoffs but when they are in it.

Matt Brash didn't do well giving up
the two run difference in the game.
Erik Swanson did what he has most
of the season come in and gets outs.
This time one out to finish the inning
Brash started. Diego Castillo did a
good job in his one inning of work.

The problem though the offense took
the day off especially the top of the order. Both Julio and Ty France didn't
get a hit. Haniger had a hit driving in
one of the runs. The other was done
by Sam Haggerty.

The Mariners ran out the lineup
to go against left handed pitching.
Plus they had their backup catcher
which was fine because Cal Raleigh
does need a day off on occasion.
The problem is the  lineup against left
handed pitching is not strong unless
the top six are performing.

On the positive side JP Crawford had
two hits and scoring twice. The problem the Mariners had only four
hits in the game.

Monday night Luis Castillo goes
against Ohtani in the series opener.
Most likely another low scoring
affair and we hope another Mariners
victory. The Mariners have Ray
going Tuesday followed by Kirby
on Wednesday. The Mariners should
win two out of the three at least

The Mariners need the offense to
step up this week. Winning more
than one run would be nice.

Mariners and Seahawks Lose

The Seattle Mariners were beaten  by
the Texas Rangers in the middle game
of the series 7-4. The Rangers ended
a nine game losing streak to the Mariners. Hopefully Mariners rebound
Sunday to take the series.

The Mariners started off well scoring
two runs in the first and one in the
third. The Rangers scored four to take
the lead in the fourth inning.

Marco Gonzales still struggling on the mound. Been a tough time for him
since the all-star break. What I don't
understand is leaving Gonzales in the
game. The fourth again was batting
practice where he gave up three doubles to the four runs.

Gonzales pitched the fifth giving up
another run. They put Penn Murfee in
but he had a hard time giving up a
run on two hits and a walk. Chris Flexen came in his first appearance
out of the bullpen. He had trouble
walking four batters in two innings.
Gave up a run but was not earned
because of fielding.

Next time Gonzales starts and has a
bad inning please take him out. I
do hope he can turn things around.
The Mariners are in a playoff race
after all.

The Seahawks lost opening preseason
game to the Steelers 32-25. The Steelers scored a touchdown with three seconds to go. They likely would
have won on a field goal if it wasn't for
the TD.

Like most first preseason games they
were sloppy as well as seeing some
good things to. The Steelers got off
by scoring two touchdowns in the first
quarter. The Seahawks had a touchdown and field goal in the second
quarter while the Steelers had a field
goal so.leading 17-10 at halftime. Basically the difference in the game.

The Seahawks scored a touchdown in the third quarter to tie then the Steelers
scored another to take the lead. The Steelers ended up going for and converting two points. Fourth quarter
the Seahawks did the same and made
two points as well. A good time to
practice the two point conversion.

Geno Smith started and played the
first half and Drew Lock the second.
Both had there good points as well as
not so good. I would say not really put
Smith ahead. The Seahawks play the
Chicago Bears this Thursday in Seattle.
See what improvement made.

The Seahawks rookies played a lot and
looked good. Again some good and not so good points. What we hope for is
improvement in game to. Go Hawks!

Mariners Beat Texas

First of all it was nice to see Julio Rodriguez back in the lineup. The
first time they have had their starting
outfield together since May.

Jesse Winker in left, Julio in center
and Mitch Haniger in right. I know the critics are not fans of Winker playing
in the field but right now Carlos Santana is the primary dh with Mitch
needing a day on occasion. The Mariners can put Dylan Moore out there late in games as they did Friday
night pinch running for Winker after
he had a hit.

The Mariners scored two runs in the fourth inning when Julio drove in two
runs to make it a 3-1 lead. It looks like
Julio no problem swinging the bat.
Also good to see him in center.

The Texas Rangers scored a run in the
sixth inning off of George Kirby who then exited with two outs. A tight game
until the Mariners scored a run in the
eighth and two more in.the ninth for good measure.

Adam Frazier continues his hot hitting
having two hits. He didn't drive in any
runs but scored twice. Now with a
regular lineup JP Crawford batted ninth. JP had been struggling late
at the plate however his last at bat
he hit a lot of foul balls before hitting
a fly ball to score a run on a sacrifice.
He walked twice as well. He is in the
right spot in the lineup for now.

Cal Raleigh struggled a bit at the plate though he had a double. Other at bats
he had opportunities to drive in more runs. Cal struck out three times. He needs to stay away from swinging at
low balls that are hard to hit anyway.
Hopefully he learned and not be discouraged.

By the way the final score was
Mariners 6 Rangers 2

Marco Gonzales starts Saturday against the Rangers. The game starts
an hour earlier than Friday's. The
game is on Fox TV. I was hoping to
get in an hour of the Seahawks preseason game first but now I will have to go back and forth. I will start
with Seahawks kickoff first and then
go from there.

I thought the Mariners would Castillo on Sunday will be Logan Gilbert. It
looks like Castillo will start the opening
game against the Angels.

The order of the rotation right now
looks to be Castillo, Ray, Kirby, Gonzales and Gilbert. Chris Flexen
didn't pitch Friday night so should
get into Saturday's game unless
waiting for Sunday. Right now not
sure how often he will pitch but I
would say every five days since that
is what he is accustomed to. Being
a starter they throw once between
starts so he could pitch an inning
in a game between as well. A lot
depends on how much the bullpen
is being used.  Go M's.

Julio Returns and more

Good news Julio Rodriguez activated
off the injured list. Should see him in
lineup leading off and in center field.

The Mariners recalled catcher Curt
Casali from Tacoma. The Mariners
acquired Casali the last day of the
trading deadline from.the San
Francisco Giants.

At the same time the Mariners
designated Luis Torrens for assignment.
I hope he is picked up by another team
where he can dh, play  some first base
and be the third catcher.

Thursday the Seahawks came out with
their first depth chart before the first
preseason game on Saturday. I won't
list every position but a few here.

Besides the starters they listed second
and third team. Interesting some spots
they had more than one at the second
spot and for most the third spot. I am
not sure the second player in the second
spot has advantage over the third spot.
We will see when the season starts.

Geno Smith is number one quarterback
right now with Drew Lock number two
Jacob Eason third. After the game this
could change.

Number one pick Charles Cross starts
at left tackle. Right now, Jake Curhan
is number one at right tackle with
number three pick this year Abraham
Lucas number two. The former WSU
Cougar could start when the season
begins.

Noah Can't who the Seahawks acquired
in the Russell Wilson trade is number
one at tight end and former Husky Will
Dissly on the second team.

At running back Rashaad Penny is first
team with rookie Kenneth Walker his
backup. DK Metcalf's number two is
Marquise Goodwin. Aaron Fuller former
Husky who has been on the practice
squad is running with the two's as well.
Does that mean he will make the final
roster we will have to see. It means
though we should see him in Saturday's
game.

Freddie Swain is listed number two
along with Penny Hart behind Tyler
Lockett. Swain is the Seahawks number
one punt returner too.

On defense at one of the outside linebackers
is Uchenna Nwosu with rookie Mafe Boye
team two. Darrell Taylor at the other outside
linebacker. Alton Robinson his backup.

At middle linebacker is Cody Barton.
Someone different this year. The
Seahawks will go more with four
linebackers this year so Jordyn Brooks
at the other inside linebacker. I
mentioned Barton as middle linebacker
when going with three linebackers. In
this case one of the outside linebackers
will be dropped. Brooks will be playing
a lot no matter the formation.

Jamal Adams number one strong safety.
Ryan Neal who played well
during Adams absence because of
injuries is number two. At times we
could see both in the game at same
time. Adams is most effective when
he is moving around.

Quandre Diggs is back at free safety
after being injured in the final game
last season. Marquise Blair returns
again, after being injured the last two
seasons. He is listed on number three
team. This means he has to live up to
his potential or at least close to it to
make the team.

At left cornerback is former Husky
Sidney Jones the Seahawks acquired
last year. He is backed up is rookie
Coby Bryant who is giving Jones a
run for his money. See how that goes.
Third on the depth chart is Justin
Coleman returning to the fold. His
previous duty with the Seahawks was
at nickel back. The likely spot for him
again.

At right corner back is Artie Burns with
Tariq Wooden on team two. This will be
a battle to who starts.  Wooden has the
raw talent but whether he is ready to
start we will see.  The corner backs
will be the key to see improvement on
the defense. In recent seasons they
have kept the Seahawks being a better
defense.

Now to look at the defense line. Al
Woods returns after having a good
season last year at nose tackle. Byran
Mine is his backup. Shelby Harris and
Ponna Ford are the two defensive ends.
In this defense their job along
with Woods to stop the run. The outside
linebackers are more for rushing the
passer. Quinton Jefferson and LJ Collier
are the two primary backups. Collier
especially will have to improve to keep
his roster spot.

So that is the depth chart to some degree
anyway. Let you know who plays well
and who doesn't Saturday evening. Go Hawks!

Seahawks Preseason Coming up

The Seahawks first preseason game
starts on Saturday at Pittsburgh against the Steelers.

I expect Geno Smith will start the
game at qb with Rashaad Penny
at running back. Be nice to see
the two rookie tackles start as well.

On defense I want to see how the
cornerbacks do. How the success
of the Seahawks defense goes this season hinges somewhat on the
cornerbacks. It will be interesting
to see how much three four they play compared to four three. I hope Darrell Taylor has a healthy season at edge rusher.

The Seahawks second game is against
Chicago Bears at home. The only home
preseason game. The third and final is
at the Cowboys. I find this as interesting preseason schedule. No
team from AFC West or the Minnesota
Vikings.

I hope to see a Denver Broncos preseason game as well. See how
Russell Wilson is doing. Do you
think Russell will stay healthy in
Denver?

Saturday's game starts an hour before
the Mariners game do be able to get
the first quarter before switching back
and forth. I will be recording both so
I can see what might be missed. Go Hawks!

Mariners Take Series

The Seattle Mariners are playing outstanding baseball especially
the pitching.

The score was zero to zero heading
into the sixth  inning. The Mariners
didn't have a hit until Sam Haggerty
hit a home run. The Yankees had two
home runs in the seventh making
it 3-1 New York. The Mariners scored
three in the bottom of the inning with
a hit by Haniger to score Ty France.
Carlos Santana hit a home run with runner on base to.make it 4-3.

Diego Castillo off the injured list took
care of the Yankees in the 8th and
Paul Sewald in the 9th. Nice to have
that pair back together.

The Mariners are currently in the second spot in wild card. A close
race as five teams have 52 losses.
The Mariners have played more games
than the other four.

Dylan Moore played shortstop to
give JP Crawford a day off after
coming off the injured list. Crawford
HSS been struggling lately at the
plate. Kyle Lewis was sent to Tacoma
to see if he can get his stroke back.
Jarred Kelenic continues to struggle
at the plate too. He needs to do
something if he wants to stay on
the team and play.

With Luis Castillo in the starting
rotation Chris Flexen is now in
the bullpen. Likely he will pitch
when the Mariners need someone
to go two or three innings. He
will not necessarily pitch when
George Kirby does but could.
I am sure it was down to either
him or Marco Gonzales.

Including Thursday the Mariners
have four days off this month.
Should be interesting to see what
the Mariners do because they
will want Luis Castillo and Robby
Ray go every five days. Speaking
of Ray he pitched a fantastic game
Wednesday until got in trouble in
the seventh inning. He threw over
one hundred pitches.

George Kirby will start on Friday
against the Rangers. Not sure on Saturday as of yet.

The Huskies lost defensive line to
a leg injury Wednesday. Ulumoo Ale
was taken off the field. How serious
don't know as of yet. The Huskies
don't have a lot of depth so other
players will have to do their part even
if he is only gone a short time.

Seahawks still not sure who the starting quarterback will be. It
will be an interesting match for
sure.

Incredible Win By Mariners

Tuesday night was one of the most

incredible games this season with
Mariners finally winning in 13 innings.

Both Gerritt Cole for the Yankees
and Luis Castillo lived up to their
billing. Cole went seven innings
giving up four hits while Castillo
went eight giving up three hits.

Both bullpens did a marvelous job
with the Mariners not giving up a
hit at all. The defense for the Mariners
was awesome to. Matt Brash pitching
two innings made a great play with a
ball hit at him where they were able
to get the lead runner at second and
get the hitter trying to get to second
base for a double play.

In the 13th inning Luis Torrens pinch
hitting with two outs and 0-2 count
was able to hit the ball to the right
side for a single with the bases loaded
to win the game.

The Mariners and Yankees have a
Wednesday afternoon game. We
hope for another win and excitement
as Robby Ray goes for the Mariners.

Dylan Moore and Diego Castillo are
expected to be activated off the injured
list on Wednesday. The Mariners are
giving Julio Rodriguez a couple more
days before being activated we hope.

The Mariners have Thursday off
before weekend series in Arlington
Texas against the Rangers. The
Mariners then go to Anaheim to
play three against the Angels then
end that weekend in Oakland against
the A's before coming home.

Mariners Bombarded

The Seattle Mariners continue
having trouble winning first
game of a series. We hope they
rebound like last time to the
Yankees.

Yankees 9 Mariners 4

Logan Gilbert had his worst outing
of the season going four innings
and giving up seven runs. Logan's
issue was spotting his fast ball .
Something you can't do against
the Yankees for sure.

The top and middle of the Yankees
did all the damage. Josh Donaldson
had probably his best game against
the Mariners. Donaldson had four
hits including a home run and two
doubles. He scored three times as
well as driving in three.

Andrew Benintendi drove in three runs
as well on two hits. He was a pickup
for the Yankees just before the trading
deadline.

Jesse Winker had to leave the game with back spams. He is day to day.
Also, reliever Ryan Borucki had to
leave the game in the ninth inning
because of injury to his left forearm.
He gave up two runs including a
home run to Aaron Judge. Most likely
he will go on the injured list. Diego
Castillo is expected to return on
Wednesday so not sure who will
replace Borucki for at least one game.

The Mariners hope Julio Rodriguez
will return Wednesday as well but
not sure yet. The Mariners may keep
Julio out until Friday in Texas against
the Rangers.

Washington Huskies football right
now the quarterback situation is
down to Michael Penix Jr and Sam
Huard. I am sure most Huskies fans
want Huard to win the job. All four
edge rushers are doing a good job.
At this point doesn't matter who
starts. The importance is the impact
they all make.

Julio and Moore Expect To Return

The Mariners  start their series Monday  night
in a few hours against  the New York  Yankees
who have lost five straight games. Hopefully
this will continue  in Seattle.

Logan Gilbert  starts Monday, followed  by
Luis Castillo  on Tuesday  and Robby Ray
on Wednesday  afternoon. This sounds like
the Mariners  should win another series
against the Yankees.  We hope the  offense
will come alive.

Speaking  of  Wednesday  Julio Rodriguez
and Dylan Moore are expected to come off
the injured list. The question is who is sent
down. Jarred Kelenic likely  will be one of
them since he hasn't  hit well  since coming
up. The other maybe Kyle  Lewis who hasn't
played regularly  since Ty France started
playing again.  It would  be nice if Lewis get
in playing time in Tacoma.

Lewis  would be  good  to  have coming off
the bench but Moore's defense would help.
Mitch Haniger  is back in right joining Julio
in center and Jesse Winker in left. Sam Haggerty
has done a good job. Though his playing time
will be cut down he can run as well as bench hit.
The Mariners  can bring  Lewis  back if necessary.

In football at Washington  Huskies  all three
quarterbacks are doing a fine job. I  am  sure
fans are rooting for Sam Huard to win the spot.
I know no one wants him to  go elsewhere.

The Seahawks  look like their young cornerbacks
are doing a good  job.  Hopefully  one or two will
take the reigns. A lack of experience  will not keep
them down.  The corners certainly  help the Seahawks
defense.  Not sure enough  to  make the Seahawks
a winning  team this year depending  on  the quarterback
or running  backs. The Seahawks  have  two top receivers
in DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett  but do they have someone
to get  them the ball over  the long season.  We will see.

Mariners Take Final Game of Series

The Seattle  Mariners  were a le to split the series
beating the Angels  Sunday 6-3.

The big hit was a grand slam  home  run  by Jesse
Winker in the third  inning.  Marco Gonzales  was
able  to go six innings.  I  am  not sure I  would  left
him in though it worked out. The bullpen  went
three innings  without  giving  up  a  hit.

Besides  Winker Eugenio  Suarez  and Sam Haggerty
each had two hits and drove in a run.

The Mariners   now take on the Yankees  at home.
Logan Gilbert goes Monday followed by Luis Castillo and
Robby Ray. Have a day off  in Texas before facing  the
Rangers on Friday.   Not sure how the rotation will go.

Mariners and Angels Split Doubleheader

When it came to offense the Mariners
didn't have much on Saturday. They did
win the opener 2-1 but lost the second
game 7-1. We hope the Mariners can
win the final game to split the series
Sunday.

The Angels scored a run in the second
in the second inning then Ty France hit
a two-run homer in the third inning.
Not much action after that other than
good pitching.

George Kirby went six innings giving
up six hits no walks and striking out
ten. Matt Festa came in the seventh
getting two outs and giving up a hit.
Andre Munoz finished the seventh
getting out Ohtani then did the eighth
as well. Erik Swanson did the ninth
and recording the save.

In the night game Chris Flexen started.
He went six innings giving up five runs
on five hits including a solo home run and a two-run variety.

Luis Torrens who caught the game
had his first home run of the season
and the only run for the Mariners in the fifth inning. The Mariners had only
seven hits with Torrens and Sam Haggerty having two.

Mitch Haniger was activated and played his first game since May.
He did hit a double late in the game.
Hopefully his bat will help. Kyle Lewis
started the night game in left field
which he looked fine making a couple
catches. At the plate though he struck
out all four times.

Marco Gonzales goes Sunday afternoon. We hope he does better
against the Angels than his last
outing where he threw  batting
practice to the Yankees. The Mariners
are expected to go back to the five
man rotation after this series. Will
Gonzales be the odd man out. I
expect Sunday's game be a deciding
factor.  Go M's.

Mariners Offense Sputters

The Seattle Mariners continue
having issues winning the opening
game of a series losing to the LA
Angels 4-3.

The Angels scored a run in the first.
It was kept that way as Robbie Ray
pitched a great game going seven
innings striking out ten Angels.

The problem the Mariners offense
was stail most of the game to. The
Mariners have had trouble hitting
Angels starter Patrick Sandoval
each time they have faced him
this year. They were able load the
bases against him in the sixth inning
but like many occasions were not
able to get a key hit to score. Sandoval
was taken out in the sixth inning since
he had thrown I've a hundred pitches.

The Angels scored two runs in the top
of the 9th. Figured it was over however
the Mariners were able to get three runs of their own in the bottom of the
9th. Ty France on his return to the lineup tied the game with a single and two outs. The Mariners actually scored
all three runs with the two outs.

The Angels scored a run in the top
of the tenth with a bunt then a sacrifice
fly. The Mariners were not able to
score in the bottom of the tenth. Carlos
Santana was the first one up so didn't
try the SF he was hoping to win with
a homer but popped up instead. The hitters after him were not able to
produce either.

The Angels and the Mariners have
a day-night doubleheader Saturday.
The Mariners have George Kirby in
the first game followed by Chris
Flexen in the night cap. Hopefully
the Mariners can take both.

Huskies Open Camp

Thursday the Washington Huskies
opened up trading camp. They are
just under a month from opening
game.

Michael Penix Jr took drills with the
number one unit while Dylan Morris
with second unit. May see them
switch on Friday. Not sure how much
right now Sam Huard will work with
either group. Coach DeBoer says he will name the starting quarterback
half way through camp so they will
be able to get ready for the opener
on September 3 against Kent State.

The offensive line units were a bit different except Jaxson Kirkland at
left tackle with first unit. Matteo Mele
thought of as the right tackle was with
the second unit at center. Not a big
surprise since the Huskies don't have
experience behind starter Corey Luciano. Mele will play a lot wherever
he goes.

Wayne Taulapapa running back transfer from Virginia saw a lot of
action and looked quick. Will Nixon
another transfer from Nebraska is
listed as both a running back and receiver will be a rb in the Huskies offense. We could see a lot of Nixon
on third down. Richard Newton is
practicing but wearing a yellow jacket
because of injury from last year. According to coach DeBoer likely to
last for two weeks.

We will look at the defense later on.
Good competition at defensive backs
and inside linebacker. Go Dawgs.

Mariners Win Series

The Seattle Mariners beat the
Yankees 7-3 Wednesday afternoon.

The Mariners got of to a hot start.
They had three home runs in the
first inning by Eugenio Suarez, Carlos
Santana and Jarred Kelenic leading
to six runs.

In his first start for the Mariners
Luis Castillo pitched great going
six and two-thirds innings. Castillo
gave up a run in the second. He
was in control until the seventh
with two outs he gave a double then
a home run. The bullpen took over
without giving up a hit the last two
and a third innings.

The Mariners have Thursday off and return home to play the Angels on
Friday. Should be an interesting series
to say the least. The Angels went on
a good losing streak after the brawl
in Anaheim while the Mariners won
14 straight. In their last ten games
the Angels are 5-5.

The Mariners are 11 games behind
the Houston Astros while the Angels
are 12 behind the Mariners. They play each other 11 more games including this series coming up. The Angels will
have to win many of these games to
have a chance.

Robbie Ray will pitch the opening game
of the four game series. Saturday will
be another day-night doubleheader. It
will be interesting to see what the
rotation be like going forward. The Mariners haven't announced yet who
starts in the two games on Saturday.
I expect Logan Gilbert will start one of
the two. Luis Castillo should start
the opening game against the Yankees unless they move him to Tuesday.

The Mariners are hoping to have Ty France on Friday. Julio is progressing
well so should be back when his stint
on the injured list is over. I am sure
we can't wait. Mitch Haniger should
be available soon to. Maybe Friday
as well so we will see. Go M's.

Mariners Take Middle Game

The second game wasn't  easy  for the
but they found a way to stay ahead of
the Yankees winning 8-6.

Takeaways: The Mariners  began to get
ahead of the Yankees  early on. Eugenio
Suarez hit a two-run  homer  in the first
inning. Had two hits and scored twice.
The Mariners  scored a run in  the second
in the second and third inning. Cal Raleigh
hit a home run in the second. The  Mariners
are now 16-1 in games  Cal has hit a homer.
Sam Haggerty had a home run  in the 7th
inning then a run in the 9th.

The Yankees  scored three runs in the third
and three more in the sixth off of Logan Gilbert.
They hit three home runs, however  walked Aaron
Judge  twice. Judge was walked again the 9th
inning to put the going  ahead  run up to bat.
Andre Munoz was able to  strike out Torres a pinch hitter
to end the game. Anthony Russo and Josh Donaldson
each had a home run along with  Trevino.

The Mariners  relievers did a fine job. Penn Murfee
came in the sixth inning getting  two  outs. Paul Sewald
pitched to the top of the  Yankees  line up in the
7th. Erik Swanson  got two outs in the 8th and Matt
Brash came and got the  third out. The Yankees had a
runner on base Brash had two wild pitches but able
to strike out Trevino to end the threat.

The Seattle  picked up three players before the  deadline.
Jake Lamb a native of Seattle was acquired  from the
Dodgers for cash considerations or a player to be named
later. He can play first, third and  left field.  For the Dodgers
he played mostly  against lefties.  Could see him pinch
hit against  lefties  and start in left field against  lefties to
give Jesse Winker  a day off. Also, could spell Suarez as
well.

The Mariners  picked up  lefty Matt Boyd and catcher Curt
Casili from the San Francisco  Giants  for two minor leaguers.
Boyd a native of Seattle  was a starter most of his career
with the Detroit Tigers.  He will  be  primarily working  out
of the bullpen. Boyd could  go two  or  three  innings  if necessary.
Casili formerly played  for the Cincinnati Reds  so familiar with
Luis Castillo.  He isn't  a great hitter but considered a better
defensive  catcher than Luis Torrens.  Casili  could  start when
Castillo  is pitching.  Not great  pick ups but do make the
Mariners  a better team.

The Mariners  have afternoon game in New York  so start early
here on the west coast. Castillo  will make  his Mariners debut.
The Mariners  have  a  chance to  take the series. 7

Another Opening Series Loss

The Seattle Mariners lost Monday
night to the Yankees in New York
7-2.

Takeaways:  Marco Gonzales gave
up a three-run homer to Anthony
Russo in the first followed by a two run shot off Aaron Judge in the second.
Judge almost hit a homer in his first
at bat before Russo's.

I was reading how successful Marco
had it against the Yankees before this
one. Well Marco has to pitch his A
game or the Yankees will do what they
did. He gave up three home runs in all.

I heard on the broadcast and on Twitter
how Mario is a grinder and took it for
the team going five and a third innings.
Sounds to me like those who don't mind losing. Marco should have been
taken out after the second inning or
the first inning. The Mariners still had
a chance to win though were down 5-1
at that point.

The trouble was the Mariners don't
have any relievers who can go three
innings to keep from over using the
bullpen more. Matt Festa came and
pitched an inning and a third. Did a
fine job. He and Eriq Swanson who didn't pitch are the only ones who
possibly pitch three innings but then
the Mariners wouldn't have them
available for the rest of the series.

Tuesday the Mariners will have Logan
Gilbert going and Luis Castillo on
Wednesday in his Mariners debut.
They both can afford to miss a pitch
here and there against the Yankees
unlike Gonzales. A small mistake
against Judge could still mean a home run though the key is don't have a
runner on base.

Mitch Haniger looks like he is about
ready to be activated by the Mariners.
The likelihood they will wait for the
series against the Angels when they
return home run. The Mariners picked
up an outfielder on waivers from
the New York Mets. A guy named
Jankowski. He is batting under .200
on the season and has a career .236
batting average in eight years. Also,
Jankowski has less than five hundred
at bats in the eight years.

I really do hope the Mariners are able
to pick up a bat Tuesday before the
trading deadline. Anyone guess what the starting rotation be now. We know
the big three will be Castillo, Gilbert
and Ray. With a five man rotation
the final two spots be Marco, Chris Flexen and George Kirby right now.
Be interesting if they picked up another
starter.  See how it goes. We will know
before the Mariners game tonight.
