Mariners Win Battle Monday

The Seattle Mariners beat the Red Sox
at home 6-2 after early in the day
they traded Paul Sewald to the
Arizona Diamondbacks who they had
just beat in the series over the weekend.

The Mariners received three players
back from Arizona. Veteran infielder Josh
Rojas, outfielder/first baseman Dominic
Canzone and double A infield prospect
Ryan Bliss. Rojas likely will be added
to the major league roster. He can play third, short and second.  He is batting
.228 in 59 games and no home runs
this year. Bats left handed as does Canzone. We could see him play some
second and third base.

Canzone made his major debut with
Diamondbacks on July 8. At triple A
Reno he was hitting .354 with 16
home runs so he hss some power.
Bliss is a right handed hitter. He had
played short but recently played more
second base.  At double A he hit
.358 with 12 home runs. He was
playing at Reno when the trade
happened. Batting only .198 in
13 games. Most likely will be
playing for Tacoma. A youngster
at 23 he could be the Mariners
second baseman next year. We
will have to see. Be a good trade
if all three end up playing for
the Mariners. Could still be if one
becomes a starter and has success.

The Red Sox a run in the first inning
with a couple Mariners errors. Cal Raleigh
hit a home run to tie the game in the
second. The score stayed that way
until the 7th inning when Cal hit
his second homer of the game.
In the eighth inning the Mariners scored
four runs including a hit to right
field by Julio driving in two runs.
He later scored a run himself on a hit
that didn't go far by Teoscar Hernandez.
The game became interesting with two
outs and the Diamondbacks scored off
reliever Isaiah Campbell had come in.
He was struggling a but when a ball
was hit that looked a hit happening
to make it more interesting, however
JP Crawford dove and did a flip at
the same time to get the last out of the
game. Originally it looked like Andre
Munoz who pitched and struck out one
batter in the 8th would return for the
9th until the Mariners scored the four runs

The Mariners made a deal sending outfielder AJ Pollock and Tacoma
infielder Mark Mathias along with
cash considerations to the San Francisco
Giants for cash considerations or a
player to be named later. Pollock had
a disappointing season until recently
went on the injured list. Expected he
would be coming off the injured list
made sense to deal him and added
Mathias to sweeten the deal.

The Mariners will take on the Red Sox again
Bryce Miller is expected to start tomorrow
night. With the trade looming tomorrow
afternoon we could see another trade
or two.

In other local sports news the PAC 12
which now become nine next year
before adding any new teams to the
conference. The news is the Pac12 or
9 or whatever will have media deal in place
by Wednesday. So we know more
soon.  Until next time.

Seahawks Monday News

I guess we shouldn't be surprised
and why the Seahawks try to have
depth at the running back position.

Both Ken Walker and Zach Carbonnet
are both sidelined with injuries. Walker
with his groin and Zach with his shoulder.
Not sure how long both will be out.

This means 7th round pick Kenneth
McIntosh will get more opportunity
to show what he has. Sometimes
a player needs the opportunity.

This means veteran DeeJay Dallas
will see more time as well. Zach is expected to see a doctor Monday
to see how serious his injury is.
Would not be surprised if the Seahawks
bring in another running back to look
at.

Since the offense is geared around
the running game it is important to
have your best running backs around.

No other position groups dealing a lot
with injuries though last week have
six players on the pup list where they
can't perform right now.

This begins the first full week of
practice. See how things go.
Go Hawks!

Mariners Take Series In Arizona

Luis Castillo and the Mariners bullpen
shutout out the Arizona Diamondbacks
4-0 on Sunday to make things more
interesting.

The Mariners scored early once again
scoring two runs with JP Crawford and
Julio doing so. Crawford hit a home
run in the second inning to go ahead
in a nice fashion. Crawford was outstanding scoring times with the
last one in the 9th inning. It would have
been nice to add more but we will take.

The early lead certainly helped Luis
since often he has given up runs early
himself. He was able to go six innings
though he threw over one hundred pitches.
As manager Scott Servais said on post
game it was nice to see The Rock back.
Luis made his first start for the Mariners
a year ago coming over from Cincinnati
Reds.

Jake Fraley who the Mariners gave up
in the trade is batting .262 for the Reds
with 15 home runs and 61 RBIs. Wouldn't it be nice to have those numbers in the
Mariners lineup however who else would have they given up instead. Possibly a
couple other prospects but we will never
know. He and Taylor Trammel were two
coming up in the system and made
starts in the outfield. Interesting both
had injury issues with the Mariners. Fraley
has played in 88 games so far for the
Reds this season. Trammell so far hasn't
lived up to his talent yet. I hope he
does one of these days. We don't know.
The Mariners do make a trade in less
than 48 hours he could be involved
where the opposing team gives them
a player for at least a couple guys.
Right now Cade Marlowe is getting
more playing time. Make sence
since he was the one came up when
Kelenic went on the injured list.

Now the Mariners will face the Red
Sox at home starting on Monday.
George Kirby be on the mound for
the Mariners. Go M's.

Arizona Evens Series

The Seattle Mariners had opportunities
to win Saturday nights game against
the Diamondbacks but couldn't score runs.

The Mariners scored their three runs early
with a run in the second thru the fourth
innings. Arizona scored  two runs in the
4th and 5th added another to tie. The
game stayed that way until the 8th
inning with the Diamondbacks scoring
the go ahead run.

The Mariners were able to get runners
on base with two on however JP Crawford
who looked good at the plate couldn't
get a hit. Julio came up with two outs.
I can see going for a couple swings to
try to put the Mariners ahead however he ended up striking out to end the game.
Another game Julio tried to hard.  In
the past week two games he could have
won or tied.

Luis Castillo goes Sunday. Hopefully he
can pitch better than he has in recent
outings.

The Mariner can get up to three or
four games above .500 however go
back down by losing in the same fashion.

Now we see not how only Sunday goes or
whether the Mariners make any moves to improve their roster. The division is still
in for the taking if they get the right bat.
2nd or outfield  what is your choice?

Mariners Take Opening Game In Arizona

The Seattle Mariners  did exactly  what  I
thought they need to do and continue on
a good winning streak.

The Mariners scored four runs in  the
first inning  on the way to a 5-2 win.
Cal Raleigh  hit a double to drive in
JP Crawford  and Julio Rodriguez  who
were on second and third. Hernandez
went to third. Tom Murphy hit another
double to score Hernandez  and  Cal.

The Mariners scored another run in
the seventh inning and Arizona scored
their two runs in the bottom of the 7th.
Matt Brash  came in to squash Arizona's
rally. Logan Gilbert went 6 1/3 innings.
Gave up nine hits however no walks and
five strike outs.  Andre Munoz pitched
the 8th. He walked but struck out one
to end the inning. Sewald did the same
thing to end the game.

The Mariners  are now  53-50 and 6 1/2
games out of first place and 4 1/2 out of
the wild card. It looks to me they should
be buyers and not sellers.  Let's see what
they do over the next three days. Go M's.

Trading Deadline

I know there is a lot of Mariners fans
are looking to see whether the team
makes  trades this weekend. Will they
be sellers or buyers?

Regardless  what happens in Arizona
this weekend  I  hope the Mariners are
buyers.

I don't  really  care who they buy except
to improve  at second base and the outfield.
I  think being sellers would be a mistake.
Not only have they given up on the season
but they won't  make as much money since
fans will stop going  to  the  park and likely
and not on TV either. The diehards will still
come and watch.

Ownership  needs to realize buying is more
profitable than selling. Are fans really to see
the organization  give up on the season.
Since Dipoto  and Servais  have come to
town they have gone into rebuilding mode.
In my mind selling means the rebuilding failed
and have to start another rebuild. I  am  not
sure about you but I  don't  want another
rebuild after one season  of success. Go M's.

Seahawks Thursday

The Seattle  Seahawks  had opening
to training camp on Wednesday.
Bobby Wagner  was the big deal
to fans and media alike. His return
after one season with the LA Rams.

The Seahawks  had several players
who had their contracts adjusted.
The whole salary cap thing is strange
to me and I am  sure  everyone alike.
A player can have his salary adjusted
with a bonus or extension. In some
cases the players will never see the
money on a extension  but bonus they
will.

The nice thing about training camp
fans can buy tickets to come see
practice.  It allows you to see how
practices go and get more personal
with the players.

The Seahawks  announced the pup
list. That is group of players who
are injured and are not practicing.
They can be taken off the list
anytime during camp. Jamal
Adams and Jordyn Brooks are
on the list. Not a big surprise.
Brooks most likely Iikely start
the season  on the injured list.
Not sure of Adams yet. The
Seahawks  have  six players on
the list right now. Woolen is
another member of the group.
He is expected to start the season
for the Seahawks though.

Go Hawks!

Mariners Take Series

The Mariners did what we hope for
by beating the Twins 8-7.

The Mariners got off well scoring a
run in each of the  first four innings,
three in the fifth and another in the
sixth. They had to hold on tight
to win which they did.

Julio Rodriguez and Dylan Moore
were the two big offensive players
in the game. Each had three hits.
Julio who had been struggling had
another good one hitting a home run
in the 3rd inning. Julio has been working
hard in the cage and now has paid off.
He actually scored three times in the
ball game. Dylan Moore who has done
well against the Twins in this series
had two home runs a solo in the 2nd
and a three-run homer in the 5th. Tom Murphy had a double and Cade Marlowe
had a walk ahead of him.

Though they only had one hit each Eugenio
Suarez, Teoscar Hernandez and Kolten Wong drove in a run each.

Bryce Miller went into the sixth inning recording  the win though he gave up
six runs on four home runs. The bullpen
did a fine job though Matt Brash gave
up a run right Miller. This time Andre
Munoz was able to get the save.

The Mariners now have a day off
before facing the Diamondbacks
in Arizona. Logan Gilbert will pitch
Friday followed by Bryan Woo on Saturday.
Good for Woo to have an extra day off.
Luis Castillo is scheduled to pitch on
Sunday. Hopefully he will be sharp.
With improved offense and pitching we hope for at least two wins in Arizona.

The question will the Mariners make
a serious trade. They did pick up a
reliever who will begin in Tacoma come
from Toronto in Trent Thorton for Tacoma
shortstop Mason McCoy. This will give
the Mariners more depth if they have
to recall a reliever for two much use.

Thursday with an off day we will look
at the Seahawks as they start training
camp.

Mariners Make Comeback

The Seattle Mariners haven't had
many games like Tuesday night
this season. They beat the Twins
9-7.

George Kirby didn't have one of his
best gamesof the season. Kirby went
four innings giving up five runs with
four in the first inning and one in the
fifth. Julio Rodriguez looked a bit like
his old self hitting a home run to left field
in the second and Cade Marlowe had
his first major league home run in the
5th. Isaiah Campbell was the second
reliever for the Mariners going the 6th
inning. He gave up a run though no hits
but two walks. At that point Twins leading 6-2.

The Mariners made their comeback
scoring four in the 8th including a
two run homer by Julio to tie the
game at 6-6. This home run was his
second if the game and looked a lot
like how Julio had been hitting last
season. Wouldn't it be nice to see
more of this coming up. It would help
in adding another player to the team.
The trading deadline ends next Monday.
The Mariners scored three more in the
9th to take a three run lead. Paul Sewald
gave up a home run then settled done.

The Mariners changed the lineup moving
Eugenio Suarez into Julio's spot and Cal
Raleigh up to third. Raleigh had a couple
hits, scoring one and driving in one to.
Teoscar Hernandez was in the cleanup.
He had no hits however did drive in two runs. Julio was in the 5th spot followed. by Mike Ford. Ty France hit in the 7th spot
followed by Cade Marlowe and Kolten
Wong. I would say keep this lineup going
as long as it works.

Wednesday's game will be in the afternoon.
Bryce Miller starts for the Mariners. It
would be nice to beat the Twins and take
the deries. As we know lately we can't be
sure. Go M's.

Mariner's Lose In Ten

The Mariners are not having a lot of
luck in extra innings. Final the Minnesota Twins 4-3.

Heading into the 9th inning the Mariners
behind 2-1. Tom Murphy hit a home run
for the one run.  Cal Raleigh came in to
pinch hit and delivered a single on two
strikes and two outs. Kolten Wong  hit.a
home run to make it 3-2. Unfortunately
the Twins scored a run to tie in 9th inning.

The Mariners couldn't do anything including
moving a runner over to third. I suppose
JP Crawford could have stolen third. With
Julio leading off the 10th wouldn't want
Crawford steal third and the same goes for
Suarez. I n the bottom of the 10th the Twins bunted twice with the second one
allowing to reach first. With one out
Correa had a hit allowing the hitter to
reach home and victory.

The first game if this series looks like
the series against the Blue Jays. Game
two on Tuesday night. Hopefully the
Mariners can score more runs than against
the Blue Jays.

Unless the Mariners are able to pick up
another outfielder we can look at quite
a lot of games  looking like. We will see
if the Mariners do better with Kirby going
Stay tuned.  Go  M's.

Mariners Lose Sunday Afternoon

The Seattle  Mariners  lost 4-3 in another
close game to  Toronto  Blue Jays  Sunday.
Mike Ford had the big hit a two-run  homer
early  in the game. Dylan Moore drove in
the third run pinch hitting  for Taylor Trammell.

The Mariners  actually  had a chance in the
9th inning with runners on second and third
base and one out with Julio up to bat. Instead
of looking to hit a single  or a sacrifice  fly
he was swinging  hard and struck out. Geno
wasn't  able to deliver and that was the ball
game. Now onto Minnesota  and  Arizona
this week.

Jarred Kelenic  and  AJ  Pollock  both on the
injured list isn't  all bad news. Whether it happens
or not it does force the Mariners to go out to
get another outfielder.I  hope they pull off a
trade or at least  make every effort  to  do so.  Go M's

Mariners Win Wild Affair

Without getting into a lot of details
the Seattle Mariners  beat Toronto
second time in a row 9-8.

It was a wild game. The Mariners
hit three home runs in the third
inning. Cal Raleigh and Dylan Moore
hit back to back. Dylan didn't  waste
time hitting the ball out in left field.
Julio had  the third one. In the fifth
inning Cal hit his second of the game.
Also the Blue Jays  hit three in the
5th.

The lead went back and forth.  The Mariners
had the lead 9-7 heading into the top of
the 9th. The Blue Jays scored one run and
had the tying run at third with two outs.
However  the hitter grounded out to the
2nd base  where Wong threw over to
Ty France  to end it.

The Mariners  will look Sunday to sweep
the Blue Jays.  Whatever happens at least
they won the series and gives hope. This
series could get things going. The Mariners
take on Twins in Minnesota  for three, have
Thursday  off and have a series in Arizona
against the Diamondbacks.Be nice if the could
take  two out of three both places at least.

Hernandez Walkoff Hit

Most of  Friday night  the Mariners
bats were silent however they came
alive in the last three innings scoring
a run in each. Final 3 Blue Jays 2

The Blue Jays  scored their first run
on a homer off Bryce Miller  in the
fifth inning. He went into the sixth
inning, however  left with one out.
Toronto score their second run in the
seventh inning off of Gabe Speier.
Prelander Berroa made his made
major league  debut in the seventh
inning. He was a bit wild walking three.
Though the run was credited to Speier
Berroa threw a wild pitch for the run
to score. I  am  not sure  it was a wild
pitch since I  think Tom Murphy could
have caught the pitch.

I hope Ty France is out of his slump.
He had two hits with scoring the first
run in the seventh and driving in the
run in the eighth inning. Jose Caballero
scored the walkoff run on a hit by
Teoscar Hernandez  that banged off
the right field wall. It was inches from a
home run. Hernandez had three hits
On the day.  The Mariners had other
opportunities  but couldn't  score.

We have seen  other games where
we were hoping  the  offense would
continue for several games. We hope
this walkoff win will be a jump start.
I  am  sure  the players have heard
Jerry Dipoto  saying about not adding
more to  the offense this season. I
hope the players  believe they can do
it and not give up on the season.

With two games remaining at home
against the Blue Jays let their fans
go home disappointed.

Before Saturdays  game  AJ Pollock
went on injured  list  for hamstring
and Taylor Trammell was called up.
Also Isaiah Campbell was called up
and Berroa was sent  down. Go M's.

Pac12 media part 2

George Kliavkoff commissioner
opened up about how the Pac12
looks right now with returning players.
Of course we know they will lose USC
and UCLA.. They plan not to lose
any of the other PAC 12 schools which
would be led by Washington and Oregon.
Utah could be in their class as well.

The PAC 12 or ten after this coming season
unless they add a couple more teams
would be dead in the water if they lose
any teams to Big Ten or Big 12 or whoever.

The commissioner spoke about the
National championship going to 12 teams will help the Pac12. Also he was asked
about the media deal. He feels in the
long run not having a media deal setup
will help the conference in the long
run though could be a hiccup right now
for the short time. The media deal will
happen before expansion. Also sounds like
the deal soon since he said today is about
football. Again being asked it doesn't
say the deal will be soon either.

They had answers about questions concerning officiating and NIL.

Concerning the poll for preseason USC
favored withe Huskies number two
and Utah three. The Cougars were number
seven.

Speaking to all the coaches they each
spoke about their programs along with
two selected players with one on offense
and other defense. Each school had
30 minutes with coaches going 15 minutes
and the players the remaing 15.

Kalen DeBoer spoke about how his
staff all returned along with most
of the players. Though last year
was great with eleven years there
still unfinished business. In their
minds it going to the national.
championship series their goal.

Washington State head coach
Jake Dickert talked about what
Cougar football is about. He
feels the new offensive and defensive
coordinators will fit in with their
philosophy.

So now will be start of trading camp
and see where the teams will be.

Pac-12 Media Day

Friday  is  media day  for the Pac-12.
This means teams will start training
camp in the coming week.

The media who follows each team
are hoping the commissioner is
going to announce a new TV  deal.
The current  one will end after this
coming season  for football and
basketball.

Each team will have the head coach
and two players, one from offense
and one from defense to answer questions.

The media will announce the preseason
rankings. The Washington Huskies are
considered one of the favorites along
with USC and Utah. I  expect Oregon
will be next in line. The Washington State
Cougars  will likely  in the middle or
somewhere  in  the  bottom. The Cougars
lost several players  to  the transfer portal.

So later in the day let you know and news.

Mariners Split Minnesota Series

The Seattle  Mariners  behind all-star  pitcher
George Kirby  shutout  the  Twins 5-0. Kirby
looked like he did before  last outing.
In this one he had no walks, tying a season
high ten strike outs in seven innings. I
am he could have gone longer but didn't
need to. The Twins had only four hits on of
Kirby  too. The Mariners  could have taken
three out of four games if they were smart
or swept  the series.

If you hadn't  heard Jarred Kelenic broke his
foot after the game so he had to go the injured.
Not sure how long he will be out but more than
ten days. He admitted  he allowed his temper
get the better of him. With other players not
hitting  well we hope the don't  the same thing.
Cade Marlowe  was promoted from Tacoma
to take  Jarred's. Be interesting  to  see what
difference will b see made. I  wonder if it
forces the Mariners to make a trade sooner.
A lot depends may play over the next week.

I find it interesting where President  of baseball
operations Jerry Dipoto  said they may make
some moves after 40 games. It is when you see
how the team is doing or at least individual players.
We know the Mariners haven't  sent AJ Pollock
packing or Kolten Wong.  I  wouldn't  expect to
send one of them down the road but one should
have gone. Fortunately Kelenic  played decent
and so did Jose Caballero  or this platoon idea
would have been a dead one.

The Mariners  did score a run in the first  by
JP Crawford. They scored another in the 4th
so the question  was still whether the Mariners
would win or not. Fortunately  they scored three
in the eighth including a two-run  homer  from
Mike Ford. Matt Brash pitched the eighth and
Paul Sewald finished it up.

Bryce  Miller  pitches Friday followed by Logan
Gilbert on Saturday  and  Bryan Woo on Sunday.
The Mariners  should win two out of the three
games but as we know not a certain  of it.
With the Blue Jays in town it will feel like a
road game which isn't  all bad since Mariners
sometimes do better on the road.  Wouldn't be
nice to silence  the crowd. Now we home the
Mariners  take the series  and season more
serious than they have. Could you imagine
how noisy the park would be in the Mariners
favor had they.  The Seahawks  have owned
Seattle and the Mariners  could have taken it
away from them for some time.  Anyway  go M's.

Mariners Lose Again

We should be thankful the Mariners
won the opening game of this series
since it has been  downhill.

The trouble has been still the offense
though the pitching hasn't  been  up to
par either. I  here the excuses the
bullpen  has  been  overused. Ridiculous
they just came out of a break.

They are in midst of a ten game homestand
where they should be winning and the bullpen
has been  used. Second game as I  mentioned
in last post they should have taken Woo out
at the beginning  of  the  fourth inning when
they had an opportunity  still win the  game.

Wednesday  night  the Mariners  lost 6-3.
They were given the opportunity  to  win
however  a passed ball and Andre Munoz
walked two batters. Scott Servais brought
in a rookie in a tough spot and the rookie
was making his major league debut. He
gave up  two runs and there went the game.

The Mariners  had a shot at being 3-0 in the
series instead are 1-2. They have an afternoon
game to finish the series. I  hope they can win
the game. Being professionals they should go
out and win.

George Kirby  starts Thursday afternoon.  I  expect
him to  pitch better than his last outing.  Now the
offense come through. Go M's.

Mariners Lose Big Time

The Seattle  Mariners  lost game
two in the four game  series against
the Minnesota  Twins  10-3.

The Twins had two runs in the top
of the first then Eugenio Suarez  hit
a home run on his birthday with Crawford
on board to tie. Jarred Kelenic had a hit
and Ty France hit a double to take the
lead. It certainly  looked like a good day
for the Mariners  unfortunately  they didn't
score the rest of the game.

The Twins scored three runs  in  the  third
inning on a two-run homer off starter Bryan
Woo and a throwing error  by catcher Cal Raleigh.
Woo who had to  spend  time  on the bench
when the Mariners  scored the three runs
I am sure had some to do with him being
ineffective. Being down 5-3 the Mariners
still had a chance to win however Woo
gave up two more runs before being lifted
for reliever Isaiah Campbell with one out.
Campbell  pitched the rest of the 4th along
with the 5th. My opinion Woo shouldn't have
gone out in the 4th inning when the Mariners
had a shot to win. The two more runs  I am
sure took out the sails in any chance to win.
Baseball  is  a  game of momentum and the
Mariners offense lost it.

Wednesday night Luis Castillo  starts for the
Mariners.  I hope he is able to pitch better
at the beginning then what he has recently.
The Mariners  need to win this game badly
since another loss would make it more difficult
in game four. Go M's.

Let you know the Seahawks  training camp
starts next Wednesday.  The Pac-12  has
their media day on Friday so I  expect both
the Huskies and Cougars camps to be opened
about the same time as the Seahawks. I  am
sure with media a big question is when will
the Pac-12  have a new TV contract and will
they add two teams with USC and UCLA
leaving next year. Stay tuned.

Mariners Win Opener Of Series

I feel  winning the first game of a series
is very important.  Allows the team to be
confident though no guarantee.

Monday night  was one of those good
games. Logan Gilbert  didn't  pitch as
he had in his previous two starts however
he only gave up two runs both in the third
inning. Logan went five  innings  giving  up
seven runs. The Twins had their bats going
having 12 hits total.

The Mariners  were not able to score until
the 5th inning, however  they did have four runs.
The big hit was by Jose Caballero with a single
driving in a run and keep things going. This
allowed for Gilbert to  record the win.

The Mariners  added a run in the sixth inning
and Eugenio Suarez hit a homer with a runner
on base. This was a good thing  since the
Twins added a run into top of the sixth with
a solo home  run off of Gabe Speier. Heading
into the top of the 9th the Mariners were leading
7-3.  Tyler Adcock  had his worst outing since
being called  up  giving up a three-run  homer.
At least it happened with two outs. Paul Sewald
came and record the save. Final Mariners 7 Twins 6

The Mariners  need to find a way to score runs earlier
in the game whether it is one or two or more. Bryan Woo
will start Tuesday night. He has been pitching well
and we hope he continues. Let's see another win. Go M's.

Mariners Shutout Tigers Sunday afternoon

Though the series was disappointed
on the full the Mariners  behind the
good pitching of Bryce  Miller and
the bullpen.

The Mariners  didn’t  have  another great
offensive  output scoring only two runs
Miller  who went five innings  as planned
shutout  the  Tigers on five hits.

The Mariners  scored their first run when
JP Crawford  had  a double. Jarred Kelenic
batting cleanup hit a double as well to score
JP.  The Mariners other run came in the 4th
inning when Cal Raleigh hit a home run.
Those were half of the Mariners hits.

Monday night they start a four-game series
against the Twins. We hope they can take
the series before taking on Toronto over
the weekend before heading on the road.
Logan  Gilbert will start the first game of
the series. Logan pitches like  he has in
his last two outings be a long night for
the Twins.  Go M's!

Mariners Shutout Saturday Night

We were hoping  the Mariners  would
get off to a good start in the second half
after the all-star  break.

We figured the Mariners  were playing
the Detroit  Tigers so why not. The M's
were starting  their two all-star  pitchers.
Like often this season the Mariners  thought
they would  do what they have.

Friday night they should have won though
Castillo  gave up two runs in the first inning.
They had opportunities  to  score more runs
though they did have four in the game. Kirby
should have pitched  better giving up six
runs in five innings.  He has given up more
home runs than walks on the season which
is unheard of. I  am  sure  it hasn't  happened
often. Kirby gave up a solo  home run in the
second inning and another run in the  third.
Most of the time that should have been enough
to win. Maybe the stress of trying to pitch perfect
since the offense was silent Kirby gave up four
runs including  a  three-run homer that sank the
team.

The bullpen silenced the Tigers not giving up
any runs but the Mariners bats couldn't find a way
to get out of it. I am not sure how many times it
has happened  but they haven't scored a lot late
in games. The Mariners  had  only three hits on
the night against  the Tigers. The starter Michael
Lorenzen went six and two-thirds innings. Most
of that time he was pitching  a no-hitter. It wasn't
late on his time on the mound he gave two hits.
He struckout  seven M's  however he had five
walks. So the Mariners did have runners on base
if some had broken open but it was meant to be.
JP Crawford, Jarred  Kelenic  and Kolten Wong
were the ones that got the three hits. They were
spread out in the lineup.

News came out radio announcer Rick Rizz was in
an ATV vehicle  accident during the break. He is
going to be ok however he will miss this ten game
homestand.  Should be ready to go when the Mariners
go on the road. Mike Blowers TV analyst  has missed
most of the season. Thought was he would be back
after the all-star  break. Though no news maybe he will
return  on the next road series. We will have to see.

Mariners Lose First Game of Second Half

The Mariners  did well to end the first
half of the season  before the all-star
break on the road.  Unfortunately they
began the second half a lot like the first
half losing and not making opportunities
to win. The Mariners  could still  win this
series however must play better.

Luis Castillo  got off to a poor start giving
up a two-run  homer in the first and then
another home run in the fifth. This was
the farthest he got. The bottom  of  the
fifth the Mariners  loaded  the bases.
Dylan Moore  who started in left field
almost hit a grand slam however had to
settle for a double.  The Mariners  scored
two runs making it 3-2 Tigers lead. The
had two runners on Second and third however
neither scored though AJ Pollock could
have on a grounder if he had left on contact.
This would have tied the game.

Tyler Adcock  for the first time gave up runs
on the season.  He gave up  a two-run homer
after Dylan Moore made an error  at first.
Moore had to move from left to first when
Ty France  was tossed from the game after
arguing then throwing his bat. Kelenic didn't
start as the Mariners went with eight right
handed hitters in the lineup with JP Crawford
being the only lefty. Unfortunately JP didn't
get a hit on the night. Kelenic did get a hit
in the 8th inning driving in the third run of
the game. Mike Ford pinch hitting  for Pollock
in the 9th inning hit a home run. The Mariners
we're not able to add another run losing 5-4.

Luis Castillo  recorded the loss now with a
6-7 record though he has an era of 2.96. Though
only giving up three runs Luis did well enough
to give the Mariners  a chance to win. George
Kirby is scheduled to  start Saturday followed
by Bryce  Miller  on Sunday.  The Mariners will
have to make a move with Miller coming off
the injured. Not sure who will start against the
Twins and what order. Logan Gilbert and Bryan
Woo should both start  but in what order not
sure. Go M's.

Mariners Second Half Begins

The Mariners  begin the start of the
second half although they have played
more than 81 games. We hope the joy
of the all-star game  in Seattle will help
get off to a good start on the rest of the
season.

The Mariners  begin by having a ten
game homestand against the Tigers,
Minnesota Twins  and Toronto Blue
Jays. It would be nice to win seven
of the ten games. We to know a lot
of Blue Jays  fans will come south
from British Columbia.  We hope
some Mariners fans from same area
as well.

The Tigers are not doing well so Mariners
should win at least two out of three and
we hope for sweep to get things off to
a good start. Being a beautiful weekend
it should be large crowds and a lot of
noise we hope. A lot of small ball as we
have seen is where the Mariners have
excelled. A trade during this homestand
would  be nice though I will take it anytime
before the deadline. Go M's.

Thursday Sports

Here we are the last day of the
all-star break.  We look forward
to Friday  when the Mariners
take on the Detroit Tigers at
T-MOBILE  Park.

I am not sure of you it would be
nice to have news about a trade.
Not someone picked up on
waivers and sent to triple-A.
I am tired of hearing  about  those.
If they make  those type of transactions
state it as a minor deal so don't have
our hopes up.

The Seahawks will  be  starting soon.
I  look forward to see how the defense
goes. The Seahawks season will have
to come down to the defense no matter
how well  the offense works.

Washington  Huskies  be at it again soon.
Most experts have  them in the top ten.
It would be nice to see them in the national
championship series.

We look forward  to  the WSU Cougars as
well. It would be nice to see them chase
the Huskies and have an exciting Apple
Cup.

Until  next time

Enjoy the All-star Break

Certainly  look like fans of the
Mariners  and Seattle had a
wonderful five days of bliss.

Julio had  the most appreciation
from the fans. Not surprising
with his smile and personality.
Julio enjoys everything  he does
especially  play baseball.

The weather  was great for all
the ball players and everyone
who came from out of town.
The city of Seattle  gave everyone
a good time.  I  hope it means
another visit  before I  move on.

The National League won 3-2.
The drama was Julio came up
with a runner on base,however
he ended up walking. It would
have made the crowd explode
if he had hit the game winning
home run or at least been able
to tie the game. It would have
been nice to go at least one
extra inning.  It was still early
enough to do it.

It was nice to see George Kirby
pitch an inning though he gave
up a run and Julio as well. Luis
Castillo who was picked didn't
pitch at all. He looked like was
having a good time  over the
time of the two days the Mariners
we're back in town. I  thought it
would have been nice for him to
pitch to the last batter in the 9th
inning. The crowd would have
exploded before Julio came aboard.
I  expect Luis will start the opening
game after the  break  on Friday
against the Tigers at home. Go M's.

Mariner Bullpen, Position players and amateur draft

The Seattle  Mariners  and the city are
getting  ready for the all-star game  on
Tuesday. Julio hit the most home runs
in the Derby in the first round with 42.
Unfortunately  lost Vlad Guerrero  Jr.
in the second round. VLAD Jr. Won it
all.

The Mariners had round three through
10 on Monday as well. First round two
shortstop, and an outfielder. Both
shortstops could play elsewhere.
Se ond round they selected a college
third baseman  who is a good hitter
and can play defense.

The Mariners  bullpen has been excellent
once again. Andres Munoz  missed some
time however his fastball  is still electric.
Paul Sewald  the primary closer has 17
saves right now. Munoz will likely  be
the 8th man though can pitch seventh
or ninth if necessary. In 17 games Munoz
has 24 strike outs with an era of 2.81.
Penn Murfee  was injured  early  on is lost
for the season.

The Mariners  have recently  called up
two relievers double-A ball.  Ty Adcock
has pitched in seven games without
giving up a run and has four hits against
him. Isaiah Campbell pitched in only one
game going one inning without giving up.
He and Matt Festa who recently called
up will see some action before one of
them is sent down when Bryce Miller
is activated. Both will tribute in the time
after the break.

Matt Brash has had his up and downs
but has been successful when needing
a reliever to stop the bleeding. Gabe Speier
and Taylor  Salcedo have both pitched
well from the leftside.

Ty France has had a good first half though
inconsistent at times. We hope to see the
real Ty after the break. We all know  what
is going on at second base. Wong has been
a big disappointment while Caballero has
been a big surprise. It would be nice if the
Mariners could pick up a second baseman
before the deadline.  Caballero will be around
for sometime and  Wong won't get  an extension
like we had hoped for during the off-season.

JP Crawford  has been the Mariners  most consistent
player during  the first half. He has done well after
being inserted  into  the  leadoff spot. JP has the
history  not hitting well after the break.  We hope
not this season.  Eugenio Suarez has played consistent
defense  at third base however his bat has been a
lot like  the  rest of the lineup.  He has hit better
coming into the break and we hope it continues.

AJ Pollock  and Dylan  Moore  have been very
disappointments coming off the bench. Dylan
though did not  play most of the first half. I
expect his bat will likely not improve. Having
Caballero  his playing time will be limited. He
most likely  play left field  primarily when Kelenic
has a day off. On the other hand it would be nice
if the Mariners  picked up another outfielder before
the deadline who can be on the  team next year too.

Speaking  of  Kelenic  he fell off on average after
getting  off to a good start. Pitchers have been
throwing him a lot of speed pitches.  I  don't care
since he has  hit in some clutch situations though
having his batting  average climb would  be nice.

We all know the struggle  Julio had for much of
the  first half though has improved as of late. We
hope the home run Derby  will help him out the
rest of the way.  How Julio  goes  is how the offense
goes a lot of the time. Teoscar Hernandez  got off
to a terribly  start though started hitting better as
time went on. His base running has been questionable
at best by trying  to  make singles into doubles. He
has shown  a great arm on his defense. Whether the
Mariners  resign him is in question. It could go either
way.

The recent promotion  of Mike Ford was in question
at first however he has hit parvelous of late. Certainly
made the dh spot  presentable from the left side. Now
the Mariners  need a dh who can hit from the right or
have Ford hit both if he can do it. Never having success
in the majors before hard to know but I  figure what is
to have a right handed dh who can't  hit on the other
hand the Mariners can Hernandez at dh and blug in7
another outfielder  or  Cal Raleigh or Tom Murphy when
one isn't  catching. The important  thing  is  the Mariners
pick up  a  player  before the deadline  to give the fans
hope. Go M's.

The amateur  draft rounds on the second  day the Mariners
drafted four pitchers  including  3rd round Teddy McCraw
right hander from Wake Forest. Three outfielders and another

This means in the first ten rounds  the Mariners have three
shorstops, a third baseman, four outfielders and four pitchers..
This has been an offense driven draft. It will be interesting  to
see who ends up in the Mariners  top 30 prospects list and
especially  in  the top ten. I figure the Mariners  will have
their three first round picks there.  Tuesday will be rounds
eleven  through twenty. See  who comes in that group.

Looking at Starting Pitching and Catchers

The Seattle Mariners  first half heading
into the all-star  break the starting pitching
has been the bright  spot for the team. In
fact they deserve more credit  than  a team
one game over .500.

The starting  pitching has been great
despite the loss of Robbie Ray  for the
season  in  his first. The  Mariners were
looking for great things from Ray after
he had a great spring. Chris Flexen  took
his spot in the rotation  however he did
terrible and was sent to  the  bullpen
where he didn't do much better and
was traded to the New York  Mets where
he was designated for assignment right
away after the Mariners  had done  the
same thing. Flexen's confidence must
be low however he has been there before
playing in Korea before the Mariners signed
him. We wish him the best.

Bryce Miller  was brought up  from double-A
ball to take the spot of Flexen. Though the
Mariners pitching prospects  he has been a good
and pleasant  surprise.  Bryce made 11 starts
for the Mariners  before going on the injured
list with a blister on his throwing  hand  at
the end of June. He had seven starts going
at least six innings.  Currently  has 5-3 record
and an era of 3.97. Hopefully  see good things
from him in the second half.

Marco Gonzales  had a solid season as the
fifth starter  before going on the injured. Right
now the Mariners  are not sure he will return
this season.  Marco made ten starts before
going on injured list at the end of May. His
earn run average is over five however he has
a record of 4-1 and pitched six innings four
times.

Bryan Woo  was brought up to take Marco's
spot in the rotation. He had a rough outing
in his first outing however been solid ever
since. There is thought Bryan won't  pitch
as much after the break. It will be interesting
to see who may take his spot in rotation.
Woo has started  seven games with an era
of 3.63 and 1-1 record. His last five starts
he pitched five innings or more.

Logan Gilbert  in his last two starts on July
4 and 9th he looked like he should be joining
George Kirby and Luis Castillo on the all-star
team. He started  18 games with a 7-5 record.
Logan  went at least  six innings in 12 games.
On July 4th  he pitched his first complete game
and shutout against the SF Giants.  We may see
great pitching from him the rest of the way.

George  Kirby  has had a solid season.  He should
have been the Mariners first selection to the
All-star team. Kirby started 17 games before the
break with a record of 8-7 and an era of 3.09. The
amazing thing George  had only ten walks in 107
innings. The best  in the majors. Though Luis Castillo
is considered  the ace you could give the job to
Kirby. Castillo  started 18 games with a record of
6-6. Amazing about him despite  having some lapses
in the season he has an era of 2.86.  He pitched
marvelous  when he gave up runs early and  the
offense was able to come back  and  get the team
back in the game.

It  will be hard for  the Mariners  to  make the playoffs
however  if they do it will be about the starting pitching
and the offense to score enough runs.

Cal Raleigh  and Tom Murphy  have been solid behind
the back stop this season. The pitchers can trust
both of them calling and blocking balls in the dirt.
Cal has 265 at bats  while  hitting .223 and 11 home runs.
It would  be nice to  see the numbers go up some after
the break. Tom Murphy  got off to a slow start at the plate
in April  however has been solid since. In 97 at bats Tom
is batting  .278 and has five home runs.  He has become
Logan Gilbert's  every  game catcher. We should see
him games still against  lefties  at catcher or dh. A lot
depends how healthy he and Cal stay.

Next time we will look at the bullpen,  position and
bench players. Most likely  the  Mariners  make a
trade before  the  deadline it will be for an outfielder
and a bench player. Go M's.

Mariners Take Series

The Mariners behind another good
performance by Logan Gilbert  beat
the Houston Astros 3-1. This gave
the Mariners the series 3-1 as well.

The only run Gilbert gave up was a
home run by catcher Martin Maldonado.
He is only hitting .172 with seven home
runs with two in the series. Saturday's
home run gave the Astros the win. This
time came short. Martin hit the home
run in the sixth inning.

The Mariners pitching has been do good
over the last 30 days they lead the major
leagues in starting pitching with an era
of 2.91 and the opposition is batting
.207 the best as well. The starters have
gone far enough innings the  bullpen has
the fewest innings and pitches in majors
as well. This helps the Mariners going
out of the break with a bullpen being
rested.

Gilbert ended up going seven innings
giving up three hits including the home
run. He had no walks and six strikeouts.
Matt Brash pitched the 8th giving up no hits and one strikeout. Paul Sewald gave up
a walk after two outs making me nervous
however was able to.get the third out.
It was his 17 save on the season.

The Mariners scored all three runs in the
fourth inning. Julio led the inning off
getting on base by an error. He ended up stealing second. Ty France by no surprise
was hit by a pitch. Teoscar Hernandez hit a ball to center field to score Julio. France
went to third. Hernandez ended up going to
second on an error when he was trying to
stretch to be a double. On two strikes Jarred Kelenic hit a double to score France
and Hernandez. All the scoring and enough
for the Mariners.

After the game was the first round of major league's amateur draft. With the 22nd overall pick the Mariners took high school
shortstop Colt Emerson. Second year in a row to draft a shortstop in the first round.

The Mariners next pick #29 in first round
another high schooler outfielder Jonny
Farmelo. The Mariners received that pick for Julio Rodriguez being rookie of the year last season. The Mariners had the next
pick #30 competitive balance. Again they
drafted another high school shortstop
in Tai Peete. He did pitch some in high
school however injuries caused him not
to pitch his senior year.  The Mariners
have another pick coming Sunday night

in the second round. Monday will be
rounds  three through ten. The final
rounds eleven through twenty will be
on Tuesday.

The Mariners already had two shortstops
in their top six prospects and another
at # 14. Emerson and Peete will join
that group. We will have to see over
the next three or four years whether
these guys will stick at short. If they
all end up in the majors I would see
only at short unless one other is
involved in a trade.

Without real insight I expect round two
thru ten will have likely five pitchers
in the mix. This supposed to be a level
of position players so we could see maybe
one less pitcher and have more in round
eleven through twenty.

Though the Mariners have Cal Raleigh
on the major league roster and top
prospect Harry Ford at catcher the
Mariners could still draft a catcher
if they find a good one. Ford has a
capability playing another position
to. At this point Tom Murphy will
likely be the number two catcher
another year after this one. Though
Ford could play another position we
could see him still play some at catcher
as well. The Mariners have shown to
like players who have versatility. They
haven't had anyone with high upside
to catch and play elsewhere too.
With Ford though he does look to be
a position player starter. Raleigh
being a starter a short time at catcher
will likely stick there. We could see
Ford catch when Raleigh has a day off.
Unlike Murphy we could see Ford do
more than dh. Whatever happens it
is a good problem for the Mariners
to have.

Monday we will look at who the Mariners
drafted and the Mariners starting pitching
and the catchers for the first half of the
season. Go M's.

Mariners Go For Series

The Seattle Mariners hsd a tough loss
Saturday evening in Houston 3-2. Like
many of their losses they had good pitching but lacked the opportunity
to score runs to win.

I saw a lot of blame on manager Scott
Servais on social media for this loss.
Maybe he is to blame but the players
need to do the job. Many fans don't
think Servais likes small ball. If that
is true which I am not sure is right it
is a mistake the Mariners usually win
when they play small ball. Example the
previous two games.

Andre Munoz gave up the winning run
for the loss. It happens sometimes
though this was another  the offense
should have won the game.

Sunday Logan Gilbert will see about
putting a good close to the series heading into the all-star break. If he pitches like
4th of July be a good end note.

The other three teams in contention are
beat up or not playing well so the
pitching continues and the hitting starts
to materializes on a regular basis we
have good things to see in September
and October. Hopefully they can pick
up another bat somewhere.

Next post we will look at the players
before the break and what they can
do to see success. Go M's.

Mariners Make It Two

The Mariners  have now made it two  on
this road trip to Houston. This time they
beat the Astros  10-1 behind the great
pitching of Luis Castillo. He went seven
innings. His success  was keeping  the
infield busy with ten groundouts. He only
struckout  three and had no walks. The
rest of the season  sounds like a good
remedy  for Luis. Isaiah  Campbell made
his major debut coming in the 8th for
Castillo  and  not surrendering a hit. The
Mariners  are having  success bring pitchers
up from double-A  Arkansas.

Mike Ford continues  doing well since starting
when he was recalled  from Tacoma. The
Mariners  scored  nine of their ten runs in
the  4th inning.  Ford hit a three-run  double to
help for the cause. He hit a solo home run in
the 9th to put a stamp on the victory.  Teoscar
Hernandez and Cal Raleigh  were the only two
without a hit though Cal did drive in a run in
the 4th with an out.

Bryan Woo will start Saturday in Houston.
Logan Gilbert  will go Sunday.  Both pitchers
do well like their previous  starts the Astros
wish the Mariners  hadn't  come to town.

Woo isn't  expected  to  start a lot after the
All-star break. At least he will get a good
break here. I  would like him to keep pitching
with limited innings  whether starting or out
of the bullpen.  The other starters do well
and go long enough innings then will  keep
the bullpen rested.  Bryce Miller  should be
back after the break. Likely  will have is innings
cut short to. With the break  the Mariners could
start Castillo, Logan and Kirby in a row. Logan not
pitching in the all-star game he could start on
Friday followed the other two. Woo could start
the fourth  game followed by Miller. That would have
them pitch against the Twins June 17th and  18th.
The Mariners  next off day is July 27 so give  everyone
an extra day off. Go M's.

Mariners Win Opner Of Series Houston

The Seattle  Mariners  are starting to
look like a team  competing for a playoff
team. Coming up to the all-star break
the chances  they win the division  is
not likely.  The pitching continues like
this Thursday and  most of the first half
we could see them still in the playoffs.
At least we can enjoy the all-star  game
and everything that surrounds it right now.

The Mariners  are 43-43 with 76 games
remaining  in the season. To make  the
playoffs they don't  have to  win 90 games
however it would help. Doing so they have
to go 47-29.  The Mariners  need to  pick
up at least one bat. The player should be
someone who can play the outfield as well
as dh. Hitting  right handed would be nice
but not  necessarily. Mike Ford  looks like
the dh against righties so bringing in a
player to start against lefties. Playing the
outfield  means Teoscar Hernandez could
dh against lefties. Kelenic  could go to the
bench against tough lefties as well. In this
we could see Murphy  and Raleigh in the
game at the same time.

Final  Mariners  5 Astros 1

Pitcher of the game:  George  Kirby  who went
six and two-thirds  innings.  Kirby gave up the
one run in the seventh.

Eugenio Suarez  was the offensive player of
the game hitting two home runs and a double.
Suarez had three  of the teams six hits as
well as three rbi's and scoring three times.
JP Crawford  had  a solo home run and Cal
Raleigh  had a hit to drive in Suarez. Julio
Rodriguez had  the other hit.

For the Mariners  to  win 47 games they
will have to have games a lot like this
one.

Luis Castillo will start Friday.  For the
Mariners  have  the best chance to win
he will have to  begin better than his last
two outings. He was able to shut down
the opposition  after shakie starts. Can't
count doing three times in a row but never
can tell. Go M's.

Mariners Shutout Wednesday

I am sure most everyone would have
liked the Mariners  to sweep  the San
Francisco Giants  however it wasn't
meant to be. Not an easy  task especially
on the road.

The Giants shutout the Mariners 2-0.
JP Crawford  and Julio Rodriguez each
had a couple hits. The middle  of  the
lineup had nothing going on. Eugenio
Suarez dh as Jose Caballero played
third. Not a big surprise Suarez didn't
have a hit. The Mariners  haven't  had
much success at dh except Mike Ford.

Speaking of Mike Ford he played first
base once again. We hope Ty France
be back in against the Astros starting
Thursday  night.

Tommy Milone started in place of
Bryce Miller who is on the injured
list. Malone gave up two runs but
only one was injured. According
to manager Scott Servais  we may
not see Miller  for a little while. The
All-star break  will give him some
additional time off.

George Kirby and Luis Castillo  both
on the all-star team will pitch against
the Astros in the  four game series in
Houston. Bryan Woo will start Saturday
likely and with Logan Gilbert.

The Mariners  expect to shut down Woo
sometime in the second half  of  the  season.
Whether the Mariners  bring in another
starter or we see  more of Milone we will
see. He could make another start in place
of Miller. Wouldn't be surprised  he is sent
down to  Tacoma and another reliever takes
his spot against Houston  as a fifth starter
isn't  needed through the series. Not sure
when we should see Marco Gonzales  at
some point too.

Those in the Seattle area  take advantage of
what will happen  with the  All-star  beginning
on the weekend.  There will be some freebies
happening too. Go M's.

Logan Goes The Distance

Logan Gilbert had his best game
of the season pitching a complete
giving up five hits, no walks and
seven walks. This was the first
shutout and complete game of
his career. He showed us what
he is capable of what he can do.
It would be nice if he do more of
this the rest of the way. On his
regular rotation Logan should
start the last game on Sunday
before the all-star break.

Seattle 6  San Francisco 0

Speaking of the all-star game it
was announced before the game
George Kirby and Julio Rodriguez
were added on. I am sure most
Mariners fans would agree he
should have been on the team in
the first place

Mike Ford was the hitter of the
game with four hits including a
home run all on his birthday. He
said after the game this was the
first time he was on a major league
roster on July 4. Congratulations
Mike!  In his last seven games Ford
has batted .500 raising his average
to .279. He played first base again
with Ty France taking off another
day off after clidding in the last game
against the Rays on Sunday. See if he
returns Wednesday evening. If France
is in the lineup be good to see him
at dh for a game. Ford has done a
good job at first base too.

Tommy Milone is expected to start
Wednesday's game in the final game
of the series against the Giants. In
his last start for the Mariners he took
the spot early on in the season in
place of Marco Gonzales.

The Mariners will have to make a move for Milone to start. He is taking the spot of Bryce Miller who was added to the injured
list for the blister in his last start. He should return shortly after the all-star
break.

No announcement yet however Kirby
should start Thursday against the
Astros Thursday followed by Luis
Castillo, Bryan Woo and Logan Gilbert.

Mariners Make It Three

The Mariners should realize the season
begins in April however July never too
late.

Monday's game was tight most of the
night. The game was tied heading into
the 9th. It was a wild ending. Mike Ford led
off the inning with a single. Jose Caballero
stole second and third.  Bases became loaded. Julio hit a double. Altogether four
runs off the best reliever in baseball.

Paul Sewald pitched the 9th. Not a  success though hsd room to work
with. Gave up a home run with runners
on base. Fortunately got out off it.
Recommend not to pitch Sewald three
games in a row. Likely won't go Tuesday.

Since it is July 4 let's make it 4 wins
in  a row. Go M's.

Mariners Come From Behind

Luis Castillo had another rough start
however the Mariners offense rose up
to win the game 7-6 and took the series
2-1 and the home stand 3-3. I am sure
the players are happy now. It wasn't so
after losing the series to the Nationals
and losing big time in.the first game
to the Rays.

Tampa Bay scored a run in the first and second innings followed by four in the
third. Castillo was able to stop the bleeding
and the Rays never score again. The Mariners were able to keep it close scoring
a run in.the second and four in the third.
Tom Murphy hit a long home run the sixth to tie the game. During that time Castillo
was named to the All-Star team. At this time  only Mariner on the team. Injuries
could add another player.

The Mariners scored the winning run
in the seventh inning when Hernandez had single then Suarez was hit by a pitch. Tom Murphy walked to load the bases. Jose Caballero was hit by a pitch  to bring Hernandez with the winning run. Easy way to do it.

Now these two good offensive games.in
a row gives us more hope. See how they do
against the Giants before facing the Astros.
Go.M's.

Mariners Even Series Against Rays

The Mariners showed what they are
capable of on late Saturday afternoon
beating the Rays 8-3 to even the series.
We see whether they can take the series
on Sunday. If they do so than the Mariners
will be 3-3 on this home stand.

Saturday's game was on Fox. They had
13 hits on the day. Fox broadcasters felt
that at least eight were hit the other way.
The Mariners most success has been
hitting the ball the other way. The success
the rest of the season is doing more
consistently. The lack of consistently has
the Mariners with a subpar .500 season.
The pitching has had its times of failure
giving up a lot of runs but primarily the
trouble has been the lack of run production.
They have lost games where they should
have won on good pitching performances.

The top of the lineup had 9 of the 13 hits.
Obviously that won't happen every game
so the rest of the lineup needs to help out
when that doesn't happen. The Mariners
had one home run by JP Crawford while
having four doubles. A good recipe with
home runs and singles sprinkled in between. The Fox broadcasters said the
Mariner's batters need to watch the video
of this game to see what they can do.
I agree.

George Kirby pitched well again giving
up only two hits and the two runs he
surrendered was on a two-run homer
in the sixth inning. Kirby went seven innings total with seven strikeouts. He did walk
two which is normal amount. Right now
I would consider Kirby the ace of the
team. Will he be on the all-star team.
In my opinion I say yes.

Speaking of ace Luis Castillo goes on
Sunday. If he pitches as he is capable
of than the Mariners have a good shot
at winning however we know it still
comes down to the offense. The last
home game before the all-star break
next week. They go on the road for three
against the Giants and four at Houston.
Go M's.

Mariners Have To Be A Concern

We have known for weeks  the Mariners  offense
is a big concern.  Once in a while they will show
us some offense when they play small ball. I  am
not sure why they can't play that way more consistently.

Friday  night  the Mariners  lost to Tampa  Bay the
best  team in the American  League and they showed
why when  Bryce Miller had to leave the game with
a  lister on his throwing  hand. After the game Bryce
said he has had for a little  while  but this was the
worst time. Now the question  does he miss a start
or go on the injured  list.  Sounds like the blister is
how he throws  the ball. I  am  sure  he will  have
treatment  in the mean time.

Bryce was pitching so well until the blister gave him
trouble.  In fact he was pitching a no-hitter then
his velocity went down where he lost some control
walking  a batter then giving up a home run. Before
that the Mariners  were leading 4-0. The Rays went
on to win 15-4. My opinion Bryce should have been
pulled after the walk. If I  have criticism  of  Scott
Servais  he leaves pitchers in when they should be
pulled. The Rays caught on fire. This could have been
a whole different  game and the Mariners may have
won if Miller  hadn't  come down with injury or he
would have come out of the game. The pitcher
coming in can throw  as many pitches as he wants
before facing a batter.

The Mariners  brought in Matt Brash who went an
inning and a third. He gave up three hits and a
run. He wasn't  the worst pitcher of the evening
however the Mariners  need to send him to triple-A
to get his act back to together. I  don't  care he has
the best slider around.

Now see how things go Saturday. Will it be the
same or not? Come on and  make a trade to bring
in a hitter. At the all-star  break I will do a breakdown
of the offense. In general  the pitching has been good
with an occasional lapse. They are not the reason
have a losing record. Go M's.
