Mariners Lose In Extra Inning

The Houston Astros beat the Mariners
in the 10th inning 3-2.  George Kirby got off to a rough start giving up two
runs in the first inning. The Astros
didn't score until the tenth inning.

Kirby went four innings giving up three
hits while walking one and striking out
seven. The relievers did a good job from then on until the tenth.  Brennan Bernardino recently called up pitched the tenth. Eugenio Suarez had a fielding error so losing run was unearned. He recorded the loss.

What I don't understand why put in
a new pitcher in this situation. I am sure they say because lack of relievers with lack of rest. They could have gone with Eric Swanson another inning. I
don't understand Servais making this
decision. You think it would be important to win the final game of
the series against the Astros. This especially going to.play the Yankees Monday.

The Mariners recalled Jarred Kelenic
from Tacoma and Jack Larsen from
Arkansas. Larsen started in right field.
Kelenic who arrived around game time
went in for Larsen. He went to center
field while Adam Frazier went from
center to right.

Julio Rodriguez and Dylan Moore each
went on the injured list. Julio's xray was negative which is good however
swelling in his wrist. We hope this means he will come back when the injured  time is done but the Mariners
are not taking a chance.

It looks like Kelenic will be in center
until Julio returns however there still
is the end of trading on Tuesday. Will
the Mariners make another trade by Tuesday stay tuned.

Luis Castillo is expected to make his
Mariners debut in New York on Wednesday. Will the Mariners bump
a starter or not. We will see.

Mariners End Losing Streak

The Seattle Mariners finally ended
their losing streak to the Houston
Astros 5-4. They may lost for
Sunday some players though.

The Mariners scored three runs in the first inning with Eugenio Suarez, JP Crawford and Adam Frazier each driving in a run. The Mariners didn't
score again until the 9th inning.

The Astros scored one run in the fifth
and sixth inning followed by two in
the seventh. The thought in my mind
oh no they blew their opportunity.

In the ninth inning Abraham Toro who
seems to own his old team pinch hit
for Julio Rodriguez. You may wonder
if you were not watching or listening
to the game. Well Julio hurt his wrist
again. Not sure the same one or not.
Julio had been still in the game for
defense in the eighth inning but I
guess Servais didn't want to take the
chance hurting further. Anyway Toro
got a hit to score two runs to take
the lead into the bottom of the ninth.

The Mariners had an interesting lineup
going into the bottom of the ninth. Jesse Winker was in left as we would
expect but Dylan Moore started the game there but was taken out. He had been hit by a pitch but went out for
back spams.

Adam Frazier went to center to take
Julio's spot. Toro played right field
for Sam Haggerty who had been hurt.
Haggerty had come in as a replacement for Kyle Lewis.

In the infield Ty France moved from
first to second while Carlos Santana
went from dh to first. Paul Sewald
who.pitched the ninth would have
had to hit or whoever pitching if the
game went into extra innings. Paul
though got all three outs nice and
easy for the win.

We do hope that Julio will be able to
start on Sunday. Winker will be in
left and not sure in right field.  In Tacoma Jarred Kelenic was taken
out of the game a little while after
Lewis was for Seattle. So speculation
went wild on Twitter whether he was
going to be called up or a  trade going
to happen which might include him
and Lewis.

So far no news on a trade or call up
for Kelenic but with injuries he could
be taking Moore or Haggerty spot.
If Rodriguez is serious they will need
to call up another. Most likely if the
Mariners have callups they will have
to.meet in New York unless Kelenic
is meeting in Houston. Any others would have to take a red eye to Houston since it is a day game.

Will update with further news. Go M's.

Mariners Blown Away

The Mariners were blown away Friday
night 11-1 by the Houston Astros.
Most likely they were not going to win
anyway, since the Astros beat them a lot
in Houston and they were facing Justin Verlander
who they face in every series with Houston.

The good point they won't face Verlander
the rest of the regular
season. Mariners now have only
two games remaining against the
Astros. Hopefully the Mariners
make the playoffs but we hope
another team will beat them first.

The Mariners will brush off this game
and we hope the Astros offense runs
out of steam. The Mariners still break
even in the series.

What they can learn from the Astros
is have a good inning early on and
add on after that. The Astros maybe
the best team in.the American League
though the Yankees who the Mariners
play next are pretty good to.

The Mariners made a trade with the
Cincinnati Reds getting the best
starting pitcher available in Luis
Castillo. It did cost them two top
prospects in Marte and Arroyo. At
least they have depth at shortstop
in the minors and JP Crawford isn't
going anywhere else soon.

The Mariners are missing the
other Castillo who went onto
the ten days injured list. Hopefully
he will be able to return when the
Mariners come home.

With Luis Castillo will George Kirby
stay in the rotation or not? Will the
Mariners go to a six man rotation
or someone else be pumped. If
the Mariners do stay with five man
rotation either Kirby or another
starter could share time. I could see
Logan Gilbert who they want to watch
his innings kept down start and go
five innings. The Mariners could bring
in Kirby to pitch the final four innings.
In a tight game he could go three
innings and have Paul Sewald or
whoever pitch the ninth.

The Mariners should do well after
they finish with Yankees. They play
the Yankees at home as well as on this
trip in New York. No matter the success
 or failure against the Yankees
they should know they can beat these
other teams.

The trading deadline ends on this
Tuesday coming up. Will they be able
to pick up a bat. They are still in the
sweepstakes for Juan Soto. Is that
a wise decision or not?

On Friday the Pac-12 had their media
day in Los Angeles. The Huskies were
picked sixth followed by the Cougars.
After last season I will take sixth.
Utah was picked to finish first like
last year followed by Oregon. USC
who had same record as the Huskies
have a new coach and a lot of transfers
to. They are picked third. UCLA is
fourth followed by Oregon State. The
Huskies do play UCLA this year but
not USC unless they both find their
way into the championship game.

With training camp beginning the
first week we will keep you up to
date on the Huskies and Cougars.
By the way the Cougars have a new
quarterback transfer Cameron Ward.

Mariners Lose Another To Astros

The Seattle Mariners three game
losing streak ended in the opening
game series to the Astros in Houston.

This was a close game but three
mistakes cost the Mariners the game.
Final Houston 4 Seattle 2

Takeaways: Logan Gilbert pitched
well except by giving up a two run home run to Alex Bergman with two
outs in the first inning. Logan was
able to go six innings.

The Mariners were able to tie the game
in the third inning. They were able to
load the bases without any outs. Ty
France hit a long ball that looked like
could be a grand slam but just didn't
make it. So had a sacrifice fly. Carlos
Santana up next hit a grounder beating
the throw to first base without getting
into a double play.

The game stayed that way until the
eighth inning when Bregman was at
it again when he drove in a run with
a double. He scored himself on a couple misfortunes.

The Mariners may have been able to
comeback from a one run defeceit but
harder with two. The Astros closer Pressly has had a long streak of not
giving up runs so not good for Mariners.

The Mariners face Verlander Friday
night with Robby Ray. Likely another
close game. The Mariners need to
find a way not to make mistakes
and put pressure on the Astros.

In the football world reports come
out that the Seahawks have signed
DK Metcalf to a three year deal for
$72 million with $58 million guaranteed. This includes a $30 million
signing bonus. I am sure this all to
meet the salary cap.

This is good news since Tyler Lockett
is the other primary receiver. The Seahawks have three other receivers
competing for the third spot in Penny
Hart, Freddie Swain and D'Wayne Eskridge. All three likely make the roster but who will get most playing
time?

Eskridge is currently having a
hamstring injury which is keeping
him out at the beginning of camp.
Last year's number two draft pick
the Seahawks really to have Eskridge
healthy to be the third receiver.

The Seahawks have Cody Thompson
who maybe Metcalf's backup if he
can beat out Hart. Marquise Goodwin a
nine year veteran recently with the
Chicago Bears might be Lockett's
backup. Most likely the Seahawks
will go with five receivers. Go Hawks!

Mariners Sweep Rangers

The Mariners did what they needed
beating the Rangers 4-2. Now headed
to take on the Astros for three games.

It is interesting to see the Astros were
swept in three games so the Mariners
back where  they were a week ago.

Julio Rodriguez hit another home run
for the second time since coming back. Julio.hit a three run version in the seventh inning. The Mariners were down going into.the inning.

The Rangers were ahead 2-1 going
into the seventh. Marco Gonzales
rebounded going seven innings.
He gave up a run in the fifth and sixth.
This is the Marco we like to see.

JP Crawford and Sam Haggerty each
had two hits. No one else had more than one. Kyle Lewis was at dh while
Carlos Santana was at first. Ty France
had the day off.  With Lewis, Santana and France they can all get at least
one day off a week. When Haniger gets
back it will be interesting for sure.  This
means they can pinch hit later in  the game. Lewis is being taken out of game late as well when in outfield. The same could happen with Haniger.

When Lewis and Haniger are healthy so can both be in the outfield at same time. Do so against a tough lefty to
give Jesse Winker a day off. If Julio
needs a day off most likely be Dylan
Moore. Don't want Haniger or Lewis
in center. This could depend when
Taylor Trammel returns too.

KJ Wright Retires

The Seahawks with starting
training camp on Wednesday is
retiring as a Seahawks after
signing a one day contract.
Wright was emotional when
doing.

Wright along with Bobby Wagner
were the mainstay as linebackers
for a decade. Wagner will play this
season for LA Rams after being
released by the Seahawks the same
day Russell Wilson was traded.

We could say the Seahawks will
look different now. So much like
Kyle Seager no longer a Mariner.
Now we look at the current linebackers
for the Seahawks.

Middle Linebacker is expected to be Cody Barton. Iggy Iyiegbuniwe recently
with Chicago Bears expected to be his
backup. Ben Burr-Kirven one of my favorite former Huskies was waived
by the Seahawks on Tuesday. Ben was
out all last season.

Weakside linebacker is Jordyn Brooks likely the Seahawks best linebacker
starts. Nick Bellore who is great on
special teams and could play some
running back is the  backup.

Strong side linebacker Uchenna Nwosu
formerly of the LA Chargers starts.Boys Mafe will be the backup.

LEO which is a combination linebacker/defensive end. Darrell
Taylor starts with Alton Robinson
as the backup.

Traditional defensive end the Seahawks will have one.

It will be interesting to see
the revamp defense plays
this year. Go Hawks

Mariners Win In Comeback

The Seattle Mariners finally had
Julio Rodriguez back along with
Jesse Winker who missed a game
for his ankle. Julio didn't miss a
a beat hitting a home run in his first
plate appearance to lead. We shouldn't
expect anything less.

George Kirby made his first start
since back on July 8. Kirby didn't
miss a beat either going five innings
give up no runs on two hits and a walk.
He could have gone further since he
only threw 51.

Kyle Lewis was in the lineup in.right field making all natural outfielders
since before the break. Lewis had a
hit driving in a run in the first inning.

The Mariners didn't score another run
until the seventh when Cal Raleigh hit
a home run. The Rangers scored their
first run at the top of the seventh.

On a strange play the Rangers scored
two runs to tie off Paul Sewald. They added another run to take the lead in
the ninth inning.

Fortunately the Mariners were able
to comeback to rally for the win. JP Crawford had a single then Cal Raleigh
hit a deep ball between right and center to score Crawford to tie. Adam
Frazier bunted Raleigh to third. The
Rangers intentionally walked Julio
and Ty France to load the bases. Veteran Carlos Santana hit a ball to
somewhat shallow center and Cal Raleigh scored from third to win.
The umpires check to be sure that
Cal didn't leave third early. Could
we have heard a large noise from
the crowd if it was overturned and
had to go to the tenth inning.

I am sure the Rangers feel the same way the Mariners do when it comes
to beat the Astros what does it take
us to win. The Mariners have Marco
Gonzales on the mound Wednesday
afternoon to see about a sweep. We
hope Marco can rebound after two bad outings.  The Mariners head to Houston for a four game series. Be
nice to split the series at least.

Earlier in the day the Mariners
announced the signing of first
round pick Cole Young. He took
in batting practice with the
team well as infield. The Mariners
have signed 19 out of their 20
draft picks this year. Have one left
to go. Cole will be heading to
Arizona next to begin his professional
career.

Seahawks Release Chris Carson

As the Seattle Seahawks training
camp begins on Wednesday news
came out they have released running
back Chris Carson over a neck injury.
Not a surprise since talk has been
going on for several months.

It is sad news since Carson has been
the Seahawks number one running
back the last five years. Originally
a seventh round pick primarily because
he had injuries in college. I am sure a
surprise to.many Seahawks fans since
most seventh round picks don't make
an impact like Carson has.

The Seahawks resigned Rashaad Penny a former first round pick after
having a good second half of last season. Penny has had injuries over
his career but showed what he is
capable of when healthy. Hopefully
Penny can stay healthy all.this coming season.

Kenny Walker the Seahawks drafted
this year in the second round with the team is beginning training camp with
an injury himself. Walker has a hamstring pull he suffered in June. Hopefully not to serious to keep him
out.

They have DeeJay Dallas and Travis Homer as well who have spent time on special teams. Dallas is the most likely to get time if either Penny or Walker can't go fifty percent of the time.  We
will see whether the Seahawks pick
up an experienced running back.

In the weeks ahead we will look at the
other positions. Go Hawks!

Mariners End Three Game Losing Streak

After being swept by the Houston
Astros the Mariners best the Texas
Rangers 4-3.

Chris Flexen did what the Mariners
needed him to do by going six innings
and giving up only two runs.

The Rangers scored first with one run in the third. The Mariners responded
with two runs in the 4th. Ty France
who was the hitting star had a home
run in the 5th inning to extend the lead
to 3-1. The Rangers had a home run
in the sixth inning but the Mariners
added one in the seventh which was
a good thing.

Andre Munoz and Paul Sewald pitched
well however Diego Castillo didn't have
it this time giving up a home run. The
Rangers had the tying and winning run
on. The Mariners brought in Erik Swanson to see he could bail the
Mariners out which he did. Swanson
got the final two outs on only three
pitches.

The Mariners were without Julio Rodriguez for the fourth straight
game with his injured wrist. They
are expecting him and Jesse Winker
who missed as well on Tuesday
night. A good thing since they went
with Adam Frazier in left, Dylan Moore
in center field and Sam Haggerty in
right.

Kyle Lewis again didn't start or play
in Monday nights game. Right now
looks like playing him sparingly. It
would be nice to see three outfielders
in the lineup Tuesday.

Mitch Haniger started rehab assignment in Everett. Should play
in Tacoma as well. The Rainier's
start a series Tuesday night so
Haniger could be there. Not sure
how long he will be rehabbing but
Haniger says he will know when
he can return to the Mariners.

Tuesday night George Kirby will
start for the Mariners. Hopefully
he can go six innings but will be
based on.pitch count. The Mariners
haven't announced Wednesday
starter as of yet though should be
Marco Gonzales. After two bad outings
in a row we will have to see. Go M's.

Seahawks Training Camp About To Start

Now that we are heading  into August
this means football  is about to  start.
The two biggest story lines is will DK
Metcalf will sign his deal or sit out until
he does and who will be the quarterback
starting the season. For the first time
the quarterback  won't  be  Wilson in a
decade.

Metcalf is still rehabbing  so if he doesn’t
see any action on the field until preseason
games is ok with me. May have to worry
if it extends until  the season  starts.  I am
sure things will work out.

The quarterback  contest is three guys right
now. We have Geno Smith who played when
Wilson was out last year. Geno did ok at times
but not so good at other times.  Drew Luck
the Seahawks  got in the trade with Denver.
I am  sure fans are skeptical and then there is
former Husky  Jacob  Eason. Naturally as a
Husky fan I am  rooting for Eason. He has the
least NFL  experience  of the three.

On defense will the Seahawks  have  healthy
safeties?Also, improvement at cornerback.
Who takes over the key position at linebacker
with Bobby  Wagner  now with the Rams. The
defense we may see a lot of four linebackers.
The defensive  line we will see  more of one
tackle with two defensive ends. We hope
improvement  on pass rush.

We will  start seeing  and I will  answer those in
the weeks ahead. Go Hawks!

Astros Sweep Mariners

When the Mariners could have
used winning at least two out
of three against the Astros instead
the Astros swept the series.

Number one takeaway the Mariners
didn't have Julio. The pitching order
I still question. Even if they wanted
to start Marco and not have him
pitch against Astros in Houston.

Robby Ray went only three innings giving up six of the eight runs on
Sunday. I wonder if Ray had too much
rest. Have to figure he is a competitive
pitcher. The same for Marco. Have to
figure he would have a bad outing eventually.  Ray had pitched well for
eight games. It will be nice can have
the same again. His rotation Ray should pitch again on Friday in Houston. Since he went only three
innings the Mariners could move him
up to Thursday though Logan Gilbert will be scheduled.

Jose Altuve led the game off again
with a home run for the second time
in series. Like Mike Trout makes me
wonder if they should pitch to him
since he was having a good series
leading into the game.  Perez the Astros shortstop followed with a home run too.

The Mariners did come back scoring
three runs in the seventh on a triple by Sam Haggerty scoring Abraham Toro
and Dylan Moore who had two hits
on the day. JP Crawford hit a double to
score Haggerty. This made the score
6-3.

Again I question what the Mariners did
in the bullpen. The Mariners may have still been down by three runs but why
bring in Tommy Milone to pitch when he hadn't been in a game for some time. Milone gave up two runs. The Mariners scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth to make the
final score 8-5. It could have been
6-5 heading into the ninth inning.
The Mariners used Festa to finish
the eighth followed by Andre Munoz
in the ninth. The Mariners could
have used Festa to start the eighth
since he has pitched well.

The Mariners now take on the Rangers
for three games. Hopefully they can
turn things around. At least the offense
improved the end of the game.

The Astros showed again they are
the top of the AL West. The Mariners
showed in the first two games they
are not much far back of the Astros.

With the trading deadline nine days
away we hope Dipoto can pick up
another pitcher. Also, another bat
though Haniger will be back eventually.
Though Toro, Moore and Haggerty
have their moments another hitter
would be good. Picking up an infielder
be good. Getting a catcher to back
up Raleigh with some hitting be nice to. The problem they are hard to find.
Can't wait for Harry Ford to make
his presence felt but still few years
away.

Toro had to come in with Jesse Winker
being hurt. Hopefully he won't be out
long. Kyle Lewis dh and had one hit.
Like to see offense from him against
the Rangers

Astros Beat Mariners Again

The Mariners lose a second
time in another close game
to the Astros 3-1.

Takeaways: Logan Gilbert was
able to match Justin Verlander
for much of the game, however
gave up two runs in the 4th inning.
Gilbert gave up four hits in six
innings to a tough Astros team.
Only walked one batter while striking
out eight. This was a game where
Gilbert didn't tire out for the most.

My opinion Gilbert should have started
the opening game on Friday night. I
read one Mariners fan in a group I
belong to say Marco was the right
choice because the Mariners were
not facing the Astros ace. Most of
the season teams have match ups
that do favor one team over the other depending how the rotation works
out. Only the opening game of the
season both teams usually pitch
their ace pitcher. After the all star
break depending on who pitches in
the all star game you can choose
whoever you want. The Mariners chose
Gonzales where they could go with
either Robby Ray or Logan Gilbert. Both
of them would have the advantage while against Verlander be even at best. Had Gonzales pitched well going
into the break maybe.

The Mariners now have the disadvantage losing the first two
games at home.  What does help
the Mariners they do start Gilbert
and Ray in the first two games
against the Astros in Houston. This
could work things out. Flexen and
Kirby start the first two games at
home against the Rangers with
Gonzalez in the last game. The next series against the Yankees Gonzales
will start the opening game of the
three game series in New York
followed by Gilbert and Ray. The
Mariners have a day off then face the
Angels back home. Flexen will start
the opening game Friday followed
by Kirby in the first game of Saturday
double header followed by Gonzales
in the night cap. Gilbert pitches on Sunday. This could change with the
day off Gonzales pitching the opener
followed Gilbert in night cap and Ray
going Sunday. The Mariners may
want to limit Kirby's starts and skip
him or have him start the first game
of the next series.

Another thing Logan Gilbert has never
pitched this many innings in a season
in the majors either. Last but not least
while in New York will be the end of
the trading deadline. If the Mariners
do pickup another starter like Jerry
Dipoto wants to then this will change it.

What does the Mariners do with another starter. They could go with
that starter in place of Kirby who
moves to the bullpen or the Mariners
could go to s six man rotation to help
both Kirby and Gilbert. The Mariners face the Yankees also in Seattle after
the Angels. The Mariners have an
easier scheduled for the rest of August. They face the Rangers again followed by the Angels, Oakland A's,
Washington Nationals, Cleveland and
end the month in Detroit.

In September it is a little tough but
the second half of the month they
face the Angels followed Oakland, Kansas City and Rangers. October
will be Oakland then finishing off
with Detroit at home. By the middle
of September or before the Mariners
will know what their shot is in the
playoffs .

The Mariners right now are 51-44. They have 67 games remaining. Say they go
37-30 which ends the season 88-74.
Very realistic and be in the playoffs.
Tampa Bay has 68 games remaining
while Toronto has 67. They have to play
each other along with the Yankees. They have the Red Sox as well. Won't
be an easy task.

In the central Cleveland and White Sox have to face each other seven times still. Cleveland has to face their division leading Minnesota Twins eight time well as facing Toronto and Tampa Bay. They face the Mariners to. So won't be easy for them to make the playoffs.

The rest of the schedule favors the Mariners especially after facing the Astros and Yankees. The Mariners don't face Astros after this month.
The next time maybe in.the playoffs.
Stay positive.

Mariners End Winning Streak

The Mariners came out flat while
Jose Altuve hit a home run to
lead off the game. The Astros
had three home runs in their
five runs on the night while Mariners
scored two.

Takeaways: the number one and main
one why did the Mariners start Marco Gonzales in the opening game of an important series. Every pitcher had rest and this was the opening game against
the Astros. Marco didn't have a good outing before the break giving up five runs to the Texas Rangers. The Mariners offense came back late to win and get Marco off the hook.

This game it looked like the same thing
might happen. The Mariners had the
bases loaded. Ty France had a home
run earlier and Suarez was able to walk
off Houston reliever who was having
trouble locating his slider. Kyle Lewis
back in the lineup since May hit a ball
that it looked like would drive in a couple runs to make it interesting however shortstop Jeremy Perez jumped high and somehow caught
the ball. The play of the game.

Sometimes I wonder decisions the
Mariners make like starting Marco.
Saturday afternoon the Astros start
Verlander so why not pitch Marco
in the second game. The Mariners
start Logan Gilbert on Saturday
followed by Robby Ray on Sunday.

The Mariners had a late scratch with
Julio Rodriguez out with injury to his
wrist. Another questionable call in my
book especially if he is in Saturday's
game which not sure happens or not.

This sounds like the Mariners conceded this game not having
your best in the first game. The
Astros didn't have their best either
in the pitching not starting Verlander.

The Mariners have a good chance to
make the playoffs however if they don't
I come back to this game. I like Marco
but right now he isn't pitching well
and I am tired of him giving up home runs early. Anyway we hope for a win
Saturday. The Mariners have beaten
Verlander before so not out of question.

Last thing the Mariners had a sold out
crowd so why not go with your best.
If they fail at least they tried.

The Baseball Trading Deadline

There is 14 days remaining  in  baseball
for trading.  After the deadline teams can
still trade, however, the players have to  go
through waivers.  This means teams can
block other teams from trading.  The
issues comes down to  salaries of players.

Before the current  14 game winning streak
knew whether  the Mariners  were buyers
or sellers  or combination of both. Now have
to say buyers.

President  of baseball operations  Jerry Dipoto
says the Mariners  are going for starting pitching.
The question  is  how good of a pitcher and how
much willing to give up. Depending  on the pitcher
I  would say a prospect in the Mariners organization
that is between  11 and 20. Possibly  a couple of
them and can throw in a prospect  between 21 and 30.

I  wouldn't  trade any player in the top ten unless the
pitcher is an exceptional  one. Other words some one
that matches up with Robby Ray and Logan Gilbert.

Friday  night  game against the Houston Astros  at
T Mobile Park  is sold out. Saturday and Sunday  are
close  to.  Should be an exciting and noisy series.
Thursday  the Astros played the Yankees in  a
double header.  I  know most Mariners  fans wanted
a Yankees  sweep  unfortunately the Astros swept
instead. The Astros  had to fly to  Seattle after so
hopefully  the Astros  will be tired.

The Mariners  seem to have more success against
the Astros  in Seattle than in Houston.  The Mariners
go to Houston next week  for a four game series
so hope for better success  there than in the past.
I  would be fine with a split after taking two out of
three here. The best would be to gain at least two
games on the  Astros  going into August.

The key to these series  against the Astros will likely
come down to the bullpen. Continue success with
them will help. I expect low scoring  games with at
least one with the Mariners  scoring at least five runs.

Kyle Lewis  is expected  to  be activated Friday. Not
sure he will be  in the starting  lineup  or not. Having
his bat on the bench anyway will help. Mitch Haniger
is going on  rehab assignment  Friday to Everett Aqua
Sox. He could be on rehab assignment  for two or
three weeks  depending  on  how he does. He might
play for the Rainiers  as well.  Nice to have Lewis bat
back and Haniger  soon to.  Go M's.

All Star Game and More

Both Julio Rodriguez and Ty France
were able to play in the all star game
Tuesday night. We could say that
Julio is one of the new faces of
baseball.

A number of players were miked
throughout the game and we were
able to hear from Julio while out in
center field late in the game.

The American League won for the
ninth straight time 3-2. All the runs were scored early on and the winner
had back to back home runs to come
from.behind.

On day three of the baseball draft Tuesday the Mariners drafted seven pitchers and three position players.
The first four rounds were pitchers
before selecting a position player.
According to the head of the farm
department the Mariners have about
signing all their picks. The number one
pick looks like the last one to sign
but expected is expected in Seattle
over the weekend.

Round 11 Marcelo Perez from TCU.
Most of his college career he was a
reliever though made nine starts this
year. Made Big 12 second team.

Round 12 Troy Taylor right handed
reliever from UC Irvine.

Round 13 Darren Bowen a right handed starter from UNC Pembroke.

Round 14  Tyler Cleveland a right hander who throws side. Went to Central Arkansas. Began as a reliever
however became a starter in 2022.

Round 15 Blake Rambusch first position player taken on day three.
Played college at Auburn. A good hitter and was all conference on defense.

Round 16 Jacob McNairy pitcher at Alabama. He started 12 of 16 games
for the Tides.

Round 17 Stefan Raeth another college pitcher. The Mariners decided to stay
close to home as Stefan pitched for
the Washington Huskies. Go Dawgs!

Round 18 Brandon Schaeffer a left handed starting pitcher for North Carolina.

Round 19 outfielder Curtis Washington Jr. from Purdue. A right handed hitter and thrower. Considered one exciting
player at Purdue. Let's see him in action.

Round 20 right handed hitting second baseman Nick Zona from.James Madison the last player taken by the
Mariners. The odds are against Nick
playing for the Mariners but you never know.

We wish the best to these young men
It is an honor to be drafted even if
never put on a major league uniform.

Julio Made Us Proud

Julio Rodriguez had a good evening
in the home run derby. He made the
finals in his first time. Not bad at all.

In the first two rounds he had 32 and 31home runs. He went first putting
pressure on his opponent.

The finals are not as long as the first
two rounds. He lost in the final to
Juan Soto of the Nationals. Julio
had 18 home runs while Soto had 20.

Next year being in Seattle and a year
of experience we hope for a Julio
victory.

The next post we will see who the
Mariners draft Tuesday in rounds
11 thru 20. Many of these players
will spend time in Arizona. I expect
many of these draft picks will be
college players. Most high school
players will go to college who will
be picked. The first couple rounds
could decide to sign though.

Now we root for Julio and Ty France
to have a good All Star game. Let you
know how it goes tomorrow.

Mariners Draft Picks Day Two

The Mariners  didn’t  have a third round
pick for signing Robbie  Ray as a free agent
during the off season.  The  Mariners
drafted more high school  pitchers as well
as position  players. We now let you know
who they took.

Round Four:  Ashton Izzi a 6'3 right  handed
high school pitcher from Oswego  Illinois.
Right now Ashton  throws low 90s on his
fastball. He also throws a slider and changeup.
The Mariners  seem to link pitchers  who
throw sliders.

Round Five: The Mariners  did decide to  go
for a college pitcher. A lefty in Reid VanScoter
from Coastal Carolina. Reid had Tommy John
surgery in 2019. He throws several pitches.
I am sure he will begin this career as a starter.

Round  Six: The Mariners  drafted another
shortstop this one from the college ranks
in Josh Hood from North Carolina State.
Though a shortstop  Josh could end up
playing  third base. Bats and throws right
handed. Also, hits with  power.

Round Seven: Hogan Windish a college
second baseman with power and bats right
handed.

Round Eigth:  The Mariners  drafted  a
catcher in Tatem Levins from Pittsburgh
A left hitting catcher known more his
defense than hitting.

Round Nine: The Mariners  went back to  a
high school  righthanded pitcher in Tyler
Gough from California. He can throw up
to 97 mph on his fastball.

Round Ten: The Mariners  picked their
first outfielder in Billy  Knight Jr.. He went
to the same college  as Kyle Lewis.  He
has power and plays a good center field
and bats righthanded.

Next  time up we will see how Julio Rodriguez
did in the home run  derby.

Tuesday  we will  see the remaining  draft picks.

Later on in the weeks  ahead we will see how
these draft picks land in the top prospects.

Mariners Additional Draft Picks

The first round of  the  baseball draft went
faster than expected they had round two
and a  compistory pick as well.  Round three
thru ten expected  Monday.  I  suppose  it
moves fast could have additional  rounds to.

In round two the Mariners  drafted a college
third baseman and the additional pick was
a high school left handed pitcher. The second
round pick is Tyler Locklear from Virginia
Commonwealth.  Besides third base he has
played some first base as well.  I  am  sure
the Mariners will  try him at both positions.
He has raw talent as far power goes. The
Mariners haven't  had a lot of success in
the draft as far as third base goes. Locklear
like others probably  a few years away. He is
21 years old so how things go I expect the
Mariners  will know right away.

Walter Ford is  the  high school  pitcher. He is
only 17 years old so has time to  develop. He
throws two breaking balls. The Mariners are
banking on his raw talent. I  am  sure he signs
Ford will see the rest of  the summer in Arizona.

Later Monday I will post more of the  Mariners
pick and tonight how Julio Rodriguez does in
the home run derby. Go Julio!

Mariners Take Shortstop In First Round

For the second year in a row the
Seattle Mariners picked a high
school player in Cole Young a shorstop near Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. Last year they took catcher Harry Ford.

Cole is older than most high school
players turning 19 this month. If the Mariners sign him which they likely
will he probably go to the rookie
team in Arizona just like Ford. The
Mariners will have Cole take it easy
this year. The season is half over as
it is. Like Ford he probably play
at low A Modesto.

It will be interesting where he lands
among the Mariners top prospects.
Noelvi Marte the Mariners top prospect
who plays shortstop had a tough start
on the season is playing well now for
the Everett Aqua Sox. Marte isn't expected to stay at shortstop. He most
likely move to third base or the outfield. The Mariners do like versatility so when does make Mariners he may
play shortstop on occasion. Marte is
20 years old and likely to play at
double A Arkansas next year. How he
does next year will show when he makes it to Seattle. Will he be another
superstar like Julio we will see.

Young on the other hand is expected
to stay at shortstop. Like JP Crawford
is expected to play good defense.
Young hits left-handed but reminds
scouts more of a hitter in Mariners
Adam Frazier with a bit more pop.
Young isn't expected to be a home
run hitter but hit a lot of doubles. T
Mobile Park could be the place for
Young. How fast he makes will not
only be on him but how the minor
league coaches work with him.
Another key is to stay healthy.

Monday rounds 2 thru 10 will happen.
Most likely the Mariners will go after
more college pitchers. May take an outfielder and a catcher to. Tuesday
they will take even more pitchers.
You look at the draft players taken
in the eleventh through twenty rounds
making it to the majors are pitchers.
What the Mariners having coming
down the pike those who make it will be relievers. Example Penn Murfee
was a later round pick by the Mariners.
They turned him into a reliever after
beginning his career as a starter. Some
of these guys will be traded if they are
able to stay healthy. We wish them the
best.

This week we will again look at the
top prospects in the.Mariners farm
system at those currently eleven through thirty.  You have to figure
with this years draft they will lower
down for some of them.  The following
week we will look at the top ten whose
names are not George Kirby and Matt
Brash. Kirby expected back in the rotation after the all-star break. Most likely will face the Texas Rangers in
Seattle. Brash will likely still be in the
bullpen. 😎😎😎

Mariners Sweep the Rangers

The Mariners beat the Rangers 6-2 making it 14 straight wins. This was
the longest winning streak heading
into the all-star break in major league
history. Quite the deal for sure.

The Mariners find a way to win whether
pretty or not. Several minutes before
the game it was announced Ty France
is going to the all star game in place
of Mike Trout. A bit of irony right.

The Mariners showed why they are
the team right now where all the
players gave France a hug. They
knew he belonged. Next Friday
the banner for next year's all-star
game will be unveiled. This tream
does have some reminders of the
2001 team when had the last one.

Chris Flexen started this one going
three and two-thirds giving up a
run in the third. The Mariners used
five relievers giving up the second.
Matt Brash had a little trouble allowing
the run but able to get out of it.

One of the reasons the Mariners have
done well is the relievers coming in
after the starters have done well. If
the Mariners have had any trouble
the offense picks them up.

Every hitter had a hit except Carlos Santana and JP Crawford. They both
have done well lately so can excuse
them this time.

Major league draft is going on right now. The Mariners have the number 21 pick in the first round Sunday night.
Let you know who  they pick later.
Monday will be rounds 2 thru 10 and Tuesday 11 thru 20. Ryan Rowland-Smith will be there to announce the
Mariners picks. The draft to is taking
place in Los Angeles. Go Mariners!

Football Almost Here

Trying camp is almost ready  to  start
for the Seahawks,  Huskies, and Cougars.
The one thing the three teams have in
common they will start a new quarterback.
At least two and all likely  all three.

The Seahawks  and Cougars  will have a
new quarterback  for sure.  The Huskies
still have their starting quarterback  on
their roster from last year.

Michael  Penix  Jr  a transfer from Indiana
during  the off-season  is expected to be
starter since he has experience  with  Huskies
head coach  Kalen DeBoer when he spent
a year as offensive  coordinator. Dylan Morris
and Sam Huard  will  try  to  change DeBoer’s
mind.

Every  week  I  read a story  about  the Seahawks
bringing  in  a quarterback but right now doesn't
look that way. Of course,  those who  write about
the Seahawks and no other team have to come
up with a story  a few times a week so natural
about the guy to replace Russell Wilson makes sense.

All three teams have other areas to get ready for
the season so we will see  how they come about
during  traing camp. This will be an interesting year
coming up for football. I am  sure  you  are ready.

Mariners Make It 12 In a Row

The Mariners continue their winning
ways Friday night beating the Texas
Rangers 8-3.

The Mariners now have won 12 in
row.  This is now the second longest
winning streak in Mariners. It is only
outdone by the great team of 2001
who won 18.

I know we wanted the Mariners to turn
things around but I am sure none of
us expected this. This all started with
the brawl against the Angels. Thank
you so much. On the other end the
Angels have gone the oppositive
direction.

The big blow was in the 8th inning
when Julio Rodriguez hit a grand
slam. This was the first one by the
Mariners on the season. I am not
sure they were the last team to
have one but sure they are.

Right now the Mariners are doing
whatever it takes to win. Also, some
luck along the way which has to
happen along the way.

Everyone is contributing in one
fashion or another. Last night
the top six batters got a hit.
Suarez continues to drive in
runs. Jesse Winker and Adam
Frazier are starting to hit more
consistently both had two hits.
Cal Raleigh who had a rough
time Thursday rebounded by
having two hits as well.

JP Crawford was out again
with injury to right index finger.
He is currently day to day. Also,
on the injury front Kyle Lewis
continues to hit home runs on
his rehab assignment. The
Mariners are hoping for his
return before the end of July.
Mitch Haniger could return
after the all-star break. 😊😊😊

Mariners Win Coming From Behind

It wasn't easy but the Mariners won
coming from behind 6-5.

Marco Gonzales didn't have it early
giving up three runs in the first inning and another in the second. He did
find a way to make through six. He gave up another in the fifth.

Sam Haggerty had a big game scoring
three runs. He was able to get the
Mariners going in the fourth hitting the
ball up the middle getting past the
outfielder for an inside the park home
run. This was after early striking out
out with the bases loaded. The only
time without a hit.

Suarez continues hitting well. Drove in
two runs in the seventh inning. Ty France who had been struggling
since coming off the injured list
against Toronto hit in the Mariners
final two runs to take the lead and
win the game. Before that Julio
Rodriguez was hit by a pitch with
the bases loaded to come within
one run.

The bullpen did an outstanding job
in their three innings while the
Rangers hsd trouble in their four innings of relieve. Festa and Munoz
neither gave up a hit.

In the 9th Diego Castillo came in to
save the game. He got the first
two batters out. Semien hit one back
to Castillo which went off him. He
hurried the throw allowing Semien
go to second. They additionally
walked the hot hitting Corey Seager.
Castillo was able to get the final.out.

Seattle Kraken Sign Two Free Agents

The NHL had their draft last week.
Now the Seattle Kraken are starting
to sign some free agents. I am sure
they will look to make some trades
as well.

The Kraken second season will begin
in October. Wednesday they signed Andre Burakovsky on a five year deal.
He was a member of the Stanley Cub
Champions Colorado Avalanche. He
certainly help them on the offense.

A second signing as well  was defensiveman Justin Schultz to a two year deal. Schultz recently played the
last two years with the Washington
Capitals. The Kraken lost many games
last year in the third period. Hopefully
Schultz and others will help in that
area. They signed several other players for their minor league team.

Let you know how things continue
during the off season to see where
they go for next season.  Go Kraken!

Mariners Take Game Two

Wednesday night Mariners were able to sweep the double header winning game two 2-1. Unlike the first game
it was more of a pitching duel.

We can see the Mariners offense
again not performing where we like
it on a consistent basis, however
the pitching was outstanding again.

This game was all the bullpen. Erik
Swanson was the opener. A good
choice as a former starter who knowsp
how to start a game. Swanson pitched
the first two innings without a base runner get on board and struck out one.

Tommy Milone pitched three and a third innings giving up no runs on
three hits. A great guy to pitch in
that spot. Someone who has done
well when called upon by the Mariners
since being called up.

Matt Brash came in for Milone and was
able to get hitter to hit in a inning ending double play. Unfortunately he
got a bit of wildness in the seventh
inning so Diego Castillo came in
with the bases loaded and struck out
the batter then pitched the eighth
as well.

Paul Sewald pitched the ninth inning getting the save in both games. He
did give the one run on a homer to
the leadoff of the inning Juan Soto
Sewald by striking out Nelson Cruz.
He did give up a single but got the
other two to strike out as well.

The Mariners now have won ten
games with help by a strong bullpen.
Earlier on the bullpen was weak but
they have turn things around. This
was by addition and subtraction to
the bullpen. The Mariners are expected
to play mostly against teams under .500 after the all-star break. They do
face the Houston Astros after the break.

Jesse Winker had a home run in the
game like he did in the opener. It took
place in the sixth inning. Maybe we
will see the real Winker going forward
Adam Frazier was the only Mariner
with two hits. He drove in JP Crawford
for the second run. We hope Frazier
who has been a disappointment so
far has turned a corner.

The Mariners don't need the same
hitters to score or drive in runs each
time out but have ones in the meat
of the lineup do so on a regular basis.

Julio Rodriguez the lone all-star
representative so far for the
Mariners will be in the home run
contest as well. The Mariners
are now 47-42. They have won ten
games in a row. Regarding what
happens against the Rangers they
wiil be above five hundred at the
all-star break which is good news from several weeks ago.

The Mariners are eleven games
behind the Astros however they
play them seven games right after
the break. They play three at home
and end July playing four games
in Houston. It would be nice to see
the Mariners cut into that lead.
Go M's.

Mariners Win First Game Wednesday

The Mariners  won the opening game
of the double header 6-4 over the
Washington Nationals.

Takeaways: The game  wasn't  as close
as the score indicates leading 6-1 into
the bottom  of  the  9th. Penn Murfee
had one of his worst outings but I  am
sure he will  pick it up  where he has been.

Chris  Flexen  pitched  well  going six
innings and giving up only one run. He has
pitched well recently.  Like  the other starters
keep  it that way.

Eugenio  Suarez  who has been hot lately
did it again putting the  Mariners  in  front
3-0 in the first. Jesse Winker just back
from  the  suspension had a home run  to.
Adam Frazier  who has been  struggling
had a ho e run too.  Hopefully  this means
he will get hot to. Cal Raleigh  starting the
first game at catcher  hit a home run  in the
9th inning. He to continues to  do well.

Dylan Moore  played in center with Julio
being suspended.  Julio back in game two.

Not sure who will start game but Tommy
Malone is  expected to  pitch as long as
he can.  Before game one manager Scott
Servais he whoever starts he hopes will
go through  the  Nationals lineup once.

Mariners Game Tuesday Postponed

The opening  game  at Washington  to take
on the Nationals was postponed  because
of rain so they will play  a day and  night
double header.

The first game on Wednesday  with  take
place just passed noon Washington  DC
time and the second  at 6 pm. Wednesday
game was already  scheduled  for the noon
time since the Mariners  go to Texas after
for Thursday  against  the  Rangers. This
will make it much difficult  on the Mariners.

Chris  Flexen  will start game one. He will
have to  go on as long as he can. The second
game is supposed to  be  bullpen game. Not
sure who is expected to start. Most likely  the
starter will go two or three innings.

With trading deadline  coming up  what will
the Mariners come away  with?  Another  outfielder
or second baseman. Mitch Haniger  supposed
to be ready soon and not sure when Jarred Kelenic
will be called up from Tacoma.  He has done well
as of late but I  am sure the Mariners will want to
wait see for at least the rest of July. Also, there is
Kyle Lewis  who they like to  see play some outfield
during his rehab assignment.

We hope to  see  the Mariners sweep this Nationals
doubleheader. Go M's.

Mariners Late Rally Helps Win

The Mariners  had a tight game
going into the game leading 4-2
into the 9th inning however scoring
two runs made it a lot easier.Final
6-2 Mariner's

Takeaways: The Mariners scored
all six runs with two runs. Really
helped them out.

Sam Haggerty was the player of the
game having three hits on the day
including one in the 9th inning. Julio
had a hit to helping score the two runs.
Dylan Moore had a hit before Haggerty
but was out on a pitcher to second base. JP Crawford who has played
well in this series hit a triple to score
both runners. Earlier Haggerty had
a home run to right field.

Pitching Logan Gilbert had a good
day though he only went five and one-
thirds innings. He gave up two runs
though only one was earned. Did walk
three which was unusual as well as
one strike outbGilbert is now 10-3.
Sounds like he should be on the
all-star team. If he is healthy Ty France
should be there and Julio Rodriguez
possibly to. Can you imagine had the
umpires given Julio a break in April
where he would be now.

The Mariners have Wednesday off
before taking on the Blue Jays in a
four game series. Friday's game will not be on Root Sports but Apple TV +.

Other local sports news the National
Hockey Draft will begins on Thursday
afternoon at 4pm. Seattle time on
ESPN. The Kraken have the number
four pick in the first round

Mariners Take on The Nationals

After having a day off on Monday
the Mariners take on Washington Nationals on the road for two games
The Nationals are not having a good
season so the Mariners have a shot
at extending their winning streak.

Jess Winker will be back after his
six game suspension and Erik Swanson from paternity leave. Just
like Crawford we hope Winker will
start hitting for as well. So far Suarez
has been the best part of the trade
with the trade before season with
the Cincinnati Reds.

Tuesday night we won't see Julio Rodriguez in the lineup as he takes
his one day suspension. I guess we
can look at him having a day off.
Who will play in center field will be
interesting. I expect Dylan Moore
or Sam Haggerty.

It will be nice when the Mariners can
go with three real outfielders instead
of two. Haggerty and Moore have
done well as of late but they are not
everyday outfielders. Adam Frazier
is playing some in the outfield too.

The Mariners will need to look to
get another outfielder before the
trading deadline and a second
baseman if possible. We may have
Mitch Haniger back soon but pushing
for a playoff spot can they rely on
him or Kyle Lewis?

Carlos Santana had a fantastic
series against the Blue Jays winning
the final two games on his own
having three home runs. Ty France
so far has dh since coming off the
injured list for the Blue Jays series.
He hasn't hit well yet but expect
soon. Like to see him at first base
real soon to though Santana has
played good defense. Santana
would move to dh with an occasion
at first base. What a good pick up
Santana has been.

Chris Flexen starts Tuesday night.
He has done well as of late. He goes
six innings be a good thing. Keep the
streak alive.

Mariners Win Again

The Seattle Mariners beat the
Blue Jays 6-5 on Sunday.

Takeaways:  Carlos Santana
had two home runs Sunday with
the second one in the eight inning
to win the game over Toronto. I am
sure the Blue Jays and their fans
are thinking what could have been
instead of being swept by the Mariners.

Logan Gilbert who was snupped by
not making the all-star team along
with Ty France went six innings giving
up four runs including two home runs.
Gilbert did strike out seven batters
while walking no one. You think Logan
with a 10-3 record and an era of 2.80 be on the all-star team. He was pitcher
of the month in April and did well since. The amount of quality starts
the Mariners deserved a starter on the
team. Ty France was one of the top
two hitters in the American League
before being injured. Commissioner
and Dusty Baker don't know what
they are doing.

At this point Julio Rodriguez was the
only Mariner to make the all-star team.
He celebrated by getting a hit and
driving in a run. Besides Julio and
Santana, Cal Raleigh was the only
other one to drive in a run.

The Mariners now go on the road
playing six games before the all-star
break. They have Monday off then
play two against the Washington Nationals and four against the Texas
Rangers.

You want to know the LA Angels lost
again to the Baltimore Orioles. Poor Angels. 😅😅

We will see if the Mariners make
any roster moves before Tuesday's
game. I expect Mitch Haniger will
be activated after the all-star break.
Also, Jesse Winker should be back
to. Julio will likely miss the opening
game against the Nationals for
his one game suspension. Go team!

Another Close Win

The Seattle Mariners now have
won seven games in a row beating
Toronto Blue Jays 2-1. Now see
if they can sweep the Blue Jays.

Takeaways: the Mariners only had
three hits on the night. Carlos Santana
hit a home run in the seventh with
JP Crawford on base after his hit.

Robbie Ray pitched another great
game giving up a home run in the
sixth inning. He gave up only three
hits in six innings.

Matt Brash who was called up pitched
the seventh striking out two. He
recorded the win. Brash was followed
by Andre Munoz who struck out two
as well. Diego Castillo pitched the
9th inning. He gave up a couple hits
on good pitches then after an out where the runners advanced to second
and third he gave up an intentional
walk. Castillo made great pitched
to get the final two outs.

Brash was one of three pitchers
who were called up. Matt Festa
was one of the other recalled.
Erik Swanson wife had a baby so
he went on bereavement list.
Ken Giles for his right shoulder
went on the injured list. Wonder
if he will have any success for
the Mariners. After his start Friday
night George Kirby was sent to
Tacoma. Likely he will be back
after the all-star break. The Mariners
likely won't need a fifth starter heading
into the break. Kirby likely have
limited innings with the Rainier's.

Though he didn't see action Saturday
Luis Torrens was activated and catcher
Andrew Knapp was designated for
assignment. The Mariners have Monday off then face the Washington Nationals on the road for two games
followed by four games against the
Texas Rangers in Arlington.

After the break be home against the
Astros then the Rangers again. They
finish July in Houston.

The Mariners are second place three ahead of the Rangers. The Angels
still losing are six games behind the
Mariners. Go M's.

Suarez Has Walkoff

Seattle Mariners win again so
now they are a game above
five hundred.

Takeaways: Eugenio Suarez is
hot right now so the Mariners
are taking advantage of it.
He hit a walk off home run in
the eleventh with two runners
on base making the final Seattle 5
Toronto 2.

Julio Rodriguez and JP Crawford
are both hitting well. Adam Frazier
had a couple hits so maybe he will
get going. This is without Jess Winker
who has two more games to go in
his suspension. See if he can get
going when he gets back.

George Kirby went only four and
one-thirds innings giving up ten
hits. Fortunately only gave up two
runs.  The rest of the way was the
battle of bullpens and fortunately
the Mariners won that.  Six relievers
went the rest of the way giving up
only two hits.

The second day of the NHL draft
the Seattle Kraken selected seven
more forwards, a goalie and two defensive men. The Kraken added
more offense. According to ESPN
the Kraken were the big winner in
the draft. We will have to see how
it works out.

Mariners Keep Rolling and More

The Seattle Mariners  win opening game
of series against the Toronto Blue Jay's
8-3. This helps winning the opening game
of a four game series.

Takeaways: foremost  the Mariners are
now back at even on the season at 42-42.
The thought would be here at the all-star
break and  they are ahead of schedule.
The main thing is keep  on rolling.

Marco Gonzales pitched well  into the
seventh inning though he couldn't
complete  it. He gave up the three runs
and left two runners on base with two
outs. Good  thing  Marco didn't  give up a
home run to the power Blue Jay's. He
didn't  walk a batter though no strike outs
either.

Offensively  the Mariners  had three home
runs by Dylan Moore, Cal Raleigh  and Eugenio
Suarez. Both Raleigh and Suarez each had
two hits and drove in three runs. Raleigh
average  is now  .202. Quite a  leap from
where he was. He is the Mariners catcher
until  proven different. Suarez has increased
going up to now .240. We will  take that to
for sure. We can't forget Ty France back in
the lineup  at dh. He got a hit in his first at
bat.

In the NHL  draft  the Seattle  Kraken  had
a surprise. Shane Wright  expected  to be
number  one pick by Montreal was still
available  when the Kraken drafted at 4.
We will  see  in the future  whether Canadians
made a  big mistake or not and the other
two  teams ahead of the Kraken made a
mistake to. Day two of the NHL draft will
take place on Friday.  I  am  sure  how the
Kraken  did taking Wright in the first round
will make a difference in the rest of the draft.
Will other players fall down to  for the Kraken
to change what they expected. How will they
do anything different  in signing free agents
as well.  Does Wright make the opening day
roster or not. Stay tuned.

Mariners Take On Toronto

It is always  strange  when the  Blue
Jay's come to Seattle.  Always  feel
like a road game since so many Blue
Jay fans come down  from  Canada.
The Mariners  always  struggle against
them at home.

The Mariners  winning  pretty  well
lately  we hope this is a change. Most
of the Mariners  haven't  been on the
team when playing  the  Blue Jay's
at home. Marco Gonzales starts for
the Mariners Thursday night. He might
be the only one of Mariners to play in
Seattle  against Toronto.  I believe the
last time they faced each other here
was in 2019 with  Canadian fans. I
am sure it will  be noisy.

I haven't  heard  about any transactions
yet, however Ty France  could be activated
on Thursday. If so then he could play
first base or dh in this first outing. In either
case he and Carlos Santana will likely be
in the lineup together.  Haven't heard  about
Luis Torrens but he  should  be  close to
come back  to. After those two will be Mitch
Haniger and then  Kyle Lewis.  Most likely
Kyle  won't  be  back until the end of July.
A lot depends on his rehab assignment.

In football  news  quarterback  Baker Mayfield
was traded to Carolina. This means hearing
about him coming to Seattle is off the books
for now. Any rumors about a quarterback
coming  to  Seattle  probably  not  off the table
as of yet.

Mariners Let Off Fireworks

The Seattle Mariners had a good
4th of July beating the Padres in
the opening game of the series
8-2.

Takeaways:  Chris Flexen pitched
an awesome game goingnsix and
two-thirds innings. He left with a
shutout. One of the rare times
Flexen has pitched well and had
offense backing. He know has a
record of 5-8 with an era of 4.00.
The Padres didn't score until the
9th inning on a two- run homer.
A bit too late.

The Mariners scored two runs in
the first inning then two more in
the fourth inning on a other massive
home run by Julio Rodriguez with
Dylan Moore on base. Julio became
the fastest major league ever to hit 15
home runs and 20 stolen bases in a
season. He has a good chance to
hit 30 home runs and steal 30 on
the season. Only one Mariner has
done that in Alex Rodriguez.

JP Crawford had three hits in the
game after coming off suspension.
Jesse Winker began his six game
suspension so will miss this series
well as the Toronto. Tuesday's
game will be in the afternoon and
the Mariners will fly home. They
have a day off on Wednesday before
taking on the Blue Jays for four
games.

The Mariners scored three more
runs in the sixth inning when Cal Raleigh hit a double with the bases
loaded. Cal also stole third base
his first of his major league career.

Marcus Wilson started his first
game in right field and had his
first hit in his first at bat to. Something for him to remember for sure.

For any who hadn't heard last week
USC and UCLA went to the Big Ten
Conference. Not sure what will
happen to the Pac-12. Not sure
whether the Huskies and Oregon
Ducks will follow. This puts in question
the Cougars and Beavers as well.
The Huskies had a number of recruits
commit for 2023 but not sure how
this will affect them we will. Camp
for the Huskies and the Cougars
will be starting soon. The same for
the Seahawks. Football just around
the corner. The time will come fast
as we know.

Mariners Take Series

As expected  the Mariners  took
the series over the Oakland A's.
They didn't  make it easy on
themselves.  For the second
game in a row  the Mariners
won 2-1.

Takeaways: Again great  pitching
on both sides or poor hitting depend
on how you look at it. Robbie Ray
continues to pitch well for the Mariners.
Ray ended up going six and  two-thirds
innings giving  up four hits including a
home run in the seventh inning. He
struckout twelve  batters while only
walking two.

The Mariners  offense  was made up
of Julio Rodriguez for the  most part.
He led off the first inning  hitting  a
home run  on the very first pitch. In
the six inning Dylan Moore  had a single
and came home run  on a hit and  run
where Julio hit a double. Julio is becoming
the best hitter for  the  Mariners since
Ken Griffey Jr which says a lot mainly
because  of  Ichiro.

JP Crawford  should be about ready to
return from his suspension.  Winker
probably  next as his suspension reduced
to six. Julio's has been reduced  to one
game.

Kyle Lewis rehab starting now. He will
be brought up when he can play some
in the outfield.  He does  look better
running  the bases. It is likely  to alternate
with Mitch Haniger at dh when he returns.
We do have to consider  when Ty France
returns how much Carlos  Santana plays as
well. The possibilities  at dh could be  crowded
however there is pinch hitting  as well.

Mariners Win Walk Off Fashion

The Mariners and A's game
Saturday was another low scoring
affair. The Mariners winning 2-1
with a walk off.

Takeaways: Starting pitching wasà
excellent for both sides. Paul Blackburn A's started gave up seven
runs to the Mariners in his appearance
obviously made adjustments. You can say the same for George Kirby. This time out he gave up a run in the first
inning but nothing after that. Kirby went seven innings.

Lefty Borucki gave up a hit and struck
out two in one inning. Diego Castillo
pitched the ninth walking one and
striking out. He recorded his sixth win
against one loss. Castillo in his last
15 outings with an era of 1.13 while
walking only three and striking out
twenty. When his slider is going he
is dominate.

The Mariners ended up scoring a
run in the eighth to tie the game
with pinch hitter Justin Upton
hitting a solo home run. In the ninth
with the bases loaded Abraham Toro
hit a single into left field scoring
Marcus Wilson who pinch run for
Eugenio Suarez. Toro starting to
heat up having two hits on the day.
The same for Carlos Santana who
was on base before Toro's walk off.

Now the Mariners face the final
game of series Sunday with Robbie
Ray on the mound. Wouldn't surprise
me another low scoring game with
the Mariners hopefully.

The Mariners go to San Diego Padres
to take on the Padres for two games
before returning home to play the
Toronto Blue Jays in four games. As
we know it will be a busy and noisy
as Blue Jays fans will come from
Canada. It will be nice if the Mariners
can split the series at least. The team
has played well on the road recently
and this game will sound like a road
series.

The Mariners are now in third place
in west division. A game behind the
Texas Rangers who they meet before
the all-star break. Things work out
the Mariners will be in second place
at the end of July.

The Mariners are hoping to have the
return of Ty France and Luis Torrens
soon. The possibility in Mitch Haniger
as well. Most likely Kyle Lewis will
return after the all-star break. He will
take a rehab assignment. Nothing
said whether Haniger will have a
rehab assignment or not. I expect
his first few games he will dh.

Mariners Lack Offense Again

The Seattle Mariners lack the
offense losing 3-1 to the
Oakland A's on Friday night.

Takeaways: The Mariners scored
17 runs total in their last two
games so a lower scoring game
was suspected sometime in the
series.

The Mariners lone run came in
the sixth inning with the A's
leading 2-0. Julio Rodriguez hit a
ball almost out but ended up a
triple. Jesse Winker drove in Julio.
Eugenio Suarez almost hit one
out as well but was a double. A
home run of course would have
tied the. The Mariners were not
able to bring Winker or Suarez
home. Suarez had two of the
four hits.

A's catcher Sean Murphy had three
hits driving in two runs. This include
a home run off of Penn Murfee in
the 7th inning.

Marco Gonzales started the game for
the Mariners going six innings giving
up two runs. Marco continues to pitch
well but lack of offense keeps him
from winning to often. In June Marco
was 1-3 with an era of 2.90. Now starts
July with another loss.

Carlos Santana in his four games with
the Mariners since being acquired from
Kansas City has only one hit in 12 at
bats. He has played good defense but
the Mariners picked him up for his bat
especially missing Ty France. We can
hope Santana can start to deliver.

Not sure when France will return but
does look like Luis Torrens should
when his ten days on the injured list
is done. Cal Raleigh has done the
bulk of the catching though Andrew
Knapp caught Friday night in his
Mariners debut. Later in the game
Raleigh did pinch hit for Knapp and
stayed in the game.

The Mariners and A's have a Saturday
afternoon game. George Kirby will
start for the Mariners. After giving
up seven runs in his last outing to
the Orioles hoping for better results.

So far Sam Haggerty has had the
bulk work in right field since Taylor Trammell went out with a hamstring
pull and was placed on injured list.
Not sure when Trammell will return
or Haggerty plays majority of the
time until Mitch Haniger comes back.

The Mariners certainly need Haniger's
bat along with France. Adding Kyle
Lewis would be good to.

Mariners Power Explodes

The Seattle Mariners offense came alive on
Thursday night against the Oakland A's.

Final Mariners 8 A's 6

Takeaways: After beating the Baltimore
Orioles Wednesday with small ball the
Mariners' big bats came alive Thursday
night. where Julio Rodrigues had a solo
home run. Dylan Moore had a two-run
homer in the fourth inning putting the
Mariners ahead 4-1.

Logan Gilbert gave up a three-run
homer to outfielder Ramon Laureano
who had a home run in the 9th inning
as well to make the game real interesting.

I have mentioned before on the Mariners
pitching giving up so many home runs
especially with runners on base. Laureano
two home runs give him four on the
season,

The Mariners did take the lead in the
bottom of the fifth inning where Abraham
Toro drove in two runs and then Cal
Raleigh hit a triple but scored on an
overthrow to third. This did give the
Mariners four run cushion which turned
out they needed.

Logan Gilbert pitched well for the most
part outside of the three-run homer. He left
the game in the seventh inning with two
runners on base. Thankfully Andre Munoz
came in without surrendering a run. Diego
Castillo and Paul Sewald finished off the
game though each gave up a run in each
of their inning.

JP Crawford suspension was lowered four
games from five so he will miss the series
against the A's. Jesse Winker and Julio
Rodriguez suspensions haven't been ruled
in their protests. Most likely Winker will
miss the series against the Padres in San
Diego and the Blue Jays at home depending
when the ruling takes places. If Julio has
to miss time, it will take place after Winker
unless his ruling is next.
