Seahawks, Cougars men's basketball and Huskies men's basketball end year with loss

The Seahawks had the opportunity to
win Sunday against the Pittsburgh
Steelers although the defense didn't
play well once again.

Final Steelers 30 Seahawks 23

The Seahawks offense played good
for the most part especially in the
first half. They had two touchdowns
in the first half though were behind 17-14.

The Seahawks were able to make three
field goals in the second half. The offense
made a critical mistake in the fourth
quarter fumbling the ball deep in their
side of the field. Fortunately the Steelers
kicked a field goal still giving the Seahawks a
chance.  The Seahawks scored final
field goal with 2:30 left in the game.
An onside kick they were not able to cover.
A critical first down by the Steelers sealed
the Seahawks fate.

Though the fumble had a lot to do with
the loss the Steelers two running backs
combined for 197 yards rushing and
scored their three touchdowns. Most
teams won't win allowing 197 yards
on the ground. The Seahawks will
need to bring in some players next
season to improve the defense.

The Colorado Buffaloes were able
to beat the Cougars Sunday afternoon
74-67.  The Cougars were able to make
adjustments in the second half but not
enough to overcome a ten point deficit
at halftime. The Cougars had three
players in double figures led by Andrej
Jakimovski with 19 points. He usually
rebounds well however only one in
the game. Isaac Jones and Oscar Cluff
coming off the bench each had 16 points.

The Cougars actually made more shots
from the field the difference in the game
the Buffaloes made 22 while the Cougars
made six from the foul line.

The Huskies played well in the first
half leading by 11points at halftime.
The Huskies bench did well in the
first half but not so much after that.
Utah made adjustments at halftime
to go on and win. The Huskies did
well in the first seven minutes of
the second. Each time Utah was able
to get closer the Huskies were able
to respond however eventually they
took the lead and that was it.
Final Utah 95 Washington 90

Keion Brooks Jr led the Huskies with
25 points. Korean Johnson had 17 and
Wilhelm Breidenbach had 15 off the
bench. Most of their points were in
the bench. Breidenbach played a lot
since Braxton Meah got in foul trouble
early. Right now Breidenbach will play
a lotbif Meah keeps getting into foul
trouble.  Maybe Coach Hopkins needs
to start Breidenbach instead and have
Meah coming off the bench. My
opinion this will likely be Coach Hopkins
as Huskies head coach. Huskies have
talent and experience however his
teams always have trouble getting
going scoring early or if they do so
it doesn't last.

The Huskies will have to do better this
next week against Oregon and Oregon
State. The Ducks have gotten off to a
good start . I see the Huskies  being
1-3 after next week. Most likely the
same for the Cougars. Both beating
the Beavers.

The Sugar Bowl is Monday evening.
I expect the Huskies football team
will have better fate than the basketball
team. Whatever happens they have had
a historic season. Go Dawgs!

End of 2023 Begin 2024

The Seattle Seahawks  end 2023 with a
game Sunday against the Pittsburgh
Steelers. This is another must-win game.
They lose likely out of the playoffs.  I
call this is a draw since the Steelers
are in the same situation.  Whoever
wins aren't guaranteed to be in the
playoffs however the loser is out.
The Huskies men's  basketball team
play Utah while the Cougars take on
Colorado on Sunday. Both teams lost
their opening games of the Pac-12
schedule  so would be hard to swallow
another loss. If they lose then coming
home to face Oregon  and  Oregon
State will be more important. The Ducks
opened the season beating both USC
and UCLA while the Beavers  beat USC
and losing to UCLA at home.

On New Year's Day, the Huskies football
team will play the most important game
ever in the Sugar Bowl.  A win means
they will play against either Michigan or
Alabama for the National Championship.
I am sure most Huskies fans would
prefer to play Michigan.

The Seattle Kraken will play Las Vegas
before the Sugar Bowl outdoors at
T-Mobile Park. It should be exciting to
watch as well.

I was hoping the Seattle Mariners would
acquire another player before January.
It looks like we will have to wait.  At the
very least at least acquire one outfielder.

Have a wonderful  New Year's.

Washington Huskies Men's Basketball Lose Pac-12 Opener

The Huskies had the opportunity  to
win the season  opener on the road
at Colorado.

It isn't  ever easy  to  win  on  the
road however  the Huskies had the
opportunities.

They had a small lead at the beginning
of the first  half,  however  the Buffaloes
were able  to  lead at half time by six
points. In the second  the Huskies were
able to take a seven point lead Colorado
were able to turn  around.

Final  Colorado 73 Washington 69

The Huskies were not able to  handle
Colorado's physically play. Also have
trouble not turning the ball over and
going several  minutes  without scoring.
Two things the Huskies  have  trouble
when losing.

The Huskies  had three players in double
figures led by Keion Brooks Jr  who had
20 points. Sahvir Wheeler continues
his fine play with 17 points and Moses
had 14. The Huskies  only had 5 points
off the bench all by Koren Johnson.

The Washington  State  Cougars  lost
as well. They were in the game in the
first half down 31-29 however Utah
dominated the second half. The Cougars
again scored 29 points in the second half
however the Utes had 49.

Isaac Jones  led the Cougars with 12
points and had ten rebounds as well.
Jaylen Wells had 10 points off the
bench as the only other in double
figures.

The Cougars downfall was shooting
poorly  in the field as well as at the
foul line. Outside the 3 point line
made only 4 of 20 while making
12 of 21 free throws. The Cougars
to were unable to take the edge
of 24 offensive  rebounds to the
Utes 8.

The Cougars will play at Colorado on
Sunday while the Huskies play the
Utes. Both teams will have to do
better to come home with a win.

Gonzaga didn't  fare well  either
losing to San Diego State at home
Friday  night 84-74.

The Zags shot poorly behind the
3 point line making 5 of 19. San
Diego State didn't  do much better
but had more shots and made three
more. The Zags made seven more
points from the foul line but wasn't
good enough.

Graham  Ike led the Zags with 20
points and 10 points. The Zags
will have six days off to recoup
from the loss facing Pepperdine
at home on Thursday January 4th.
Go Zags!

Seahawks Thursday

The Seahawks  take on the Pittsburgh
Steelers on Sunday at home. Another
must-win game to make the playoffs.
I  am sure the fans will be loud as
well. A team the fans at least don't
like because of the loss to them
in the Super Bowl.

The Steelers beat the Bengals last
Saturday  34-11. The Steelers have
the same record as the Seahawks
at 8-7.  It is a must-win game for
them as well.
Mason Rudolph is the current starting
quarterback for the Steelers. He threw
for 300 yards against the Bengals.
George Pickens was the Steeler's top
receiver in the game with four catches
for 195 yards and 2 touchdowns. It
will be important  for  the Seahawks
to stop him.

Nagee Harris  was the Steeler's  primary
running back who carried 19 times for
78 yards. As we know the Seahawks are
not good against the run. It will help
if the defensive line and edge rushers
can get to Rudolph as they did
late in the game against the Titans.

The Seahawks  need to give Geno Smith
time in the pocket too. Last week the
Steelers  had three pass interceptions
so can't let that happen again. Also,
the Seahawks need to have a good
running game. Somewhere around
30 carries would be nice.

Seahawks at home should win. Hope
it doesn't come down to the end.
Three close wins in a row is hard to
come by. Go Hawks!

The Year of Washington Sports

As we are in the last week  of 2023
we look at the local college and
professional sports teams.
The highlight  has to be the Washington
Huskies being undefeated  13-0
heading into the National Championship
series. Has to be the best season ever
for them for whatever the final results
happen. Can debate with the 1990 team.
The Seahawks made the playoffs in
2022-23 season and see whether it
will happen again.

The saddest  news was the end of the
Pac-12 conference with everyone leaving
besides Washington State Cougars and
the Oregon  State Beavers. The primary
reason was over TV money. Can blame
other schools  for leaving  however
we would have to subscribe to Apple TV
to watch our favorite team.

The Seattle Mariners had a good season
just missing the playoffs by two games.
After the season, they traded Eugenio Suarez
to Arizona  while Jarred Kelenic, Marco
Gonzales and Evan White for basically
nothing. It was a salary dump by the Mariners.

In other good news, the Seattle Kraken made
the NHL playoffs  in only their second season
and won their first round and almost the
second round going seven games.

We hope the future  will be bright for all
the sports teams in Washington.

Mariners Sign Veteran Catcher

Though not official until after the
holiday it was announced  the
Mariners have signed veteran
catcher  Mitch Garver to a two-year
contract for $24million.  In the minds
of the Mariners an upgrade from
Tom Murphy who signed a few days
earlier with the SF Giants for two years
at $8million.

Garver will have to pass his physical
to make it official first. He likely will
get most of his at bats being the M's
primary dh. Could see him at first
base as well on occasion.

Not known for having a good glove
at catcher is why he will dh for the
most part.  The Mariner's acquired
two catchers already during the
off-season. Seby Zalva in the trade
with the Diamondback's for Eugenio Suarez and Blake Hunt from the Tampa Bay Rays.
One of the two could start the season
with the Mariners as the third catcher.
They are both known for their defense
than offense.

Last season with the Texas Rangers
Garver in a part-time role hit ..270
with 19 home runs and 50 RBIs.
Garver should be an upgrade at dh
where the Mariners struggled all
last season. He caught in 28 games
last season. Whether he plays that
many games this next season at
catcher will depend a lot on how
the Mariners are doing.  Garver is
a right handed hitter so could see
him catch against lefties when Cal
Raleigh needs a day off behind the
plate.

Now we see who else the Mariners
will acquire. They could use at least
one outfielder if not two with good
major league experience. Picking up
a third baseman would be nice to
otherwise have to depend on someone
is more of a utility player. We will get
to that later. Spring trading is now
less than two months away. Go M's.

Seahawks Win Again

The Tennessee  Titans lead at halftime
10-3 however  Seahawks  turned around
to win 20-17.

The Seahawks  had two touchdowns in
the 4th to win. The Titans were able to
come back to take the lead after the
first down however key catches by
Tyler Lockett  who was open a lot of
the game and catch by DK Metcalf
setup the final score by tight end Colby
Parkinson  with 57 seconds in the
game made it hard for the Titans to
tie  or win the game.

The defensive line got to quarterback
Ryan Tannihill including a sack to
clinch it. The Seahawks need to win
the final two games against the
Pittsburgh  Steelers at home next
and then Arizona Cardinals in the
final game of the season.

The Steelers beat Cincinnati  Bengals
on Saturday so they look like a handful
so it won't  be easy. Go Hawks!

Seattle Mariners Make Trade or Sign Soon

I am sure the Seattle Mariners fans wished the team would make a move before
Christmas but likely not happening. I
wish they would make a statement that
they were working on something. A bad
off-season so far to say the least. At
least something happens before 2024.

A look at the Mariners top five prospects
currently. Number one is Cole Young
drafted at shortstop though may be the
Mariners future second baseman. Projected to be a Mariner in 2026. He
played first half at Modesto followed
by Everett. He probably start at Everett
this coming season. He is likely promoted
sometime to double A Arkansas. He
could be a Mariner in 2025.

Harry Ford catcher is projected to be
a Mariner in 2025. The question at catcher
or elsewhere.

Number 3 is outfielder Gabriel Gonzalez
projected for 2025. So the Mariners could
have two or three position players the
same year. He played at Modesto then
Everett where he likely start this coming
season.

Number four is shortstop Colt Emerson
number one pick in 2023. He is projected
for 2027. He played 16 games for Modesto
in 2023. Likely start 2024 at Modesto and
move to Everett if Young goes to Arkansas.

Number Five is infielder Michael Arroyo. He could play second, third or shortstop. Could be a super utility player if not a starter.  He played most of 2023 at Modesto. He could
play there in Modesto again before going
to Everett before 2024 is over. He is
projected for 2027 as well.

Having three of the Mariners top five prospects in the infield it would not
surprise me if at least one of them
is traded before any of this time.
The Mariners have two other shortstops
listed as top prospects at seven and ten.
Go M's.

Washington Huskies Football and Men's Basketball

Friday is the ending of early  signing
for incoming freshmen  and  those
through the transfer portal.

The Huskies signed 16 incoming
freshmen  and  five transfers. The
Huskies have six running backs
under scholarship so may add
another for depth or maybe Dillon
Johnson will have decided to go
to the NFL  instead.

The Huskies will be losing three
defensive line. They have picked
up one in the transfer portal so
far. May add another one or two
there. I  could see picking up
another edge rusher, linebacker
or a defensive  back. We see what
happens.

The Washington Huskies  men's
basketball  team beat Eastern
Washington 73- 66 Thursday
night. This ends the Huskies
non-league schedule with an
8-3 record. Shows a good sign
heading into Pac-12  season.

The Huskies open the Pac-12
schedule on December 29 at
Colorado  followed by Utah
on New Year's Eve  before
coming home against Oregon
and Oregon  State.

Center Franck Kepnang missed
the game because of injury. How
long he will  be out don't know.
Hopefully  this break he will be
back soon. His heart for playing
is as important  as  anything.

The Huskies were led by Keion
Brooks Jr. with 20 points. Moses
Wood had 17 while Koren Johnson
had 11 coming off the bench. The
Huskies likely will go with nine
players for the most part the rest
of the way.

On the eastside of the state the Cougars
won a close game as well beat Boise State
66-61.  Isaac Jones  having a good season
led the Cougars with 21 points. Myles Rice
having a good  season  to so far had 14.
Jabe Mullins who hadn't score well before
had 13. It will be important  for the Cougars
to have success with  Mullins  coming off
the bench as well in Pac-12 schedule.  So
the same success with Jones and Rice.

The Cougars end the non-league season
with a 9-2 record. We hope  for their success
too. They play Utah the same day Huskies
open  up.

Seahawks Thursday

The Seahawks are off to Nashville
to play the Tennessee Titans on
Christmas  Eve morning.

The Seahawks  may have or not
Jamal Adams  who didn't practice
on Wednesday.  Many fans were
upset that Adams didn't come
to the field on Monday  night
though he was not being a participant
in the game.

Now we have a quarterback controversy
as Geno Smith participated in practice.
Sounds like he may start if he is healthy
enough. The Seahawks  better win for
one to keep  playoff chances  and a lot
of boos if they lose especially  if Drew
Lock doesn't  play at all.

The Seahawks  are a 2.5 point favorite
in the  game so it could come down to
a field goal. The Seahawks  lead the series
10-7. The Titans have won the last two
games between  them so the Seahawks
should win right? Go Hawks!

Washington Huskies and WSU Cougars Early Signings Plus More

Wednesday  was the first day of early
freshman  for 2024 in football.

The Huskies are ranked at 29 in the
nation as far as players that have
committed to the University.  They
have 21 committs with 15 signing
on Wednesday. These players are
either  four or three-star recruits.
This only comes from so called
experts.  It doesn't   mean this how
things end. Some players don't
mean to match what they come
out in high school. Most of these
guys are 18 years old. You  can
look at players who get drafted
in the first round of the NFL as well.
Coaching and maturity have to do
with it as well.

The player signed at this time four are
four-star  recruit recruits the remaining
are the eleven three-star  recruits. The
Huskies  signed one quarterback four-star
Dermaricus Davis out of Rancho Cucamonga
California.  Dermaricus may redshirt though
could see him in four games in which he
can keep  it. The Huskies  have Austin Mack
who came out early last year.

The Huskies  have  edge rushers  as four-star
recruits. Noah Carter from Peoria Arizona and
Ratumana Bulabalavu out of the Army and Navy
Academy in Carlsbad California. The fourth one
signed is offensive tackle Paki Finau from Hesperia
California.  We will update more of the four-star
who are  expected  to sign.

The three-star  prospects the Huskies  signed
three wide receivers, tight end Decker DeGraaf
from Glendora, California,  two safeties including
Paul Mencke Jr who  had committed to Duke.
Two defensive lineman,  linebacker Khmori House
from Bellflower California,  cornerback  Elias
Johnson Portland Oregon  and offensive tackle
Davit  Boyajyan from Clovis California.  No local
players signed from Washington yet.

The Huskies signed five transfer players. Most
known quarterback Will Rogers  from Mississipp
State. The other four are two defensive lineman
Sebastián Valdez and BJ Green  along with offensive
tackle Drew Azzopardi and linebacker Ethan Barr.

The Washington State  Cougars  signed 24 incoming
freshman and one transfer. Most of the incoming
freshmen were three star though a few not listed.
Most not four or three-star are listed. The Cougars
signed four offensive tackles with two from Washington.
Chris  Lino from Seattle Prep and Carson Osmus
from Camas. Signed one quarterback  Evans Chuba
from Clearwater Florida. Signed two running backs
and seven wide receivers.  Three are listed as athletes
so could see them on  defense too. The others are
three edge rushers, two inside linebackers,  two safeties,
one cornerback  Kenny Worthy from Peoria Arizona
and defensive lineman Jackson  Cowgill from Erie Colorado.

The lone transfer is Syrus Webster a defensive lineman
from Utah Tech. The Cougars maybe done but could add
a player or  two. The Cougars have eight players including
quarterback  Cam Ward who went into the portal. Not bad
for a team that is going  down in classification playing most
of next season against Mountain West teams.

News came out on Wednesday  that the Cougars and Beavers
will be going to the West Coast Conference  next year in all
sports except  football and possibly baseball.  Since the
football teams is going to play most of their schedule next
year against Mountain West teams besides each other. Gonzaga
is in the West Coast Conference  at this time so both teams
will play them twice per year. Also Santa Clara is usually a good
team as well. It isn't  the Pac-12  but still good basketball.
We learn about that going on. So we wish both teams well.

12 Days Until Sugar Bowl

First of all, I  wish you  a Merry Christmas
and a  happy new year.  I hope you read
this blog in 2024 whether you have for
a while or you just started. I  will continue
I give you sports news  on the Mariners,
Seahawks,  Huskies and Cougars. Also
my opinion on the team and about the
players.

January  1 is 12 days away and likely the
biggest game  in Washington Huskies
football history. They take on Texas in the
Sugar Bowl  to play for the national
championship on January  8.

The Huskies will  take on either #1 Michigan
or Alabama  who play in the Rose Bowl. The
the game will be before the Rose Bowl so they
will know who they will play before Sugar
Bowl.
The Huskies  have a new quarterback for next
season Will Rogers, a transfer from Mississippi
State. The Huskies  have a young freshman Austin
Mack who will backup Rogers and maybe  the QB
in 2025. Dylan Morris former starter and backup
to Michael  Penix Jr is in the transfer portal. He
will still be on the sideline if they need him. Dylan
we may see again in the future  since he wants
to go into coaching  and  why not a better place
to begin then Washington.

Beginning today thru Friday the Huskies and Cougars
are able to sign incoming freshmen. After these days
other incoming freshmen will sign too. Going to the
Big Ten  it will be interesting  to  see  who the Huskies
will sign. The same goes for the Cougars who will be
left with Oregon State in now will be revered to Pac 2.
Top prospects  who may have gone to WSU may go
to Washington. Other prospects may go to the Cougars
who may have gone elsewhere.

Here we will  keep  you  updated on who else comes
thru and sign as freshman and the transfer portal for
both Huskies  and  Cougars. Let you know on the
weekend  how many incoming freshmen  signing this
early. We wish the best for the Huskies of course and
the future of the  Cougars.

Seahawks End Losing Streak

The Seahawks  needed a victory  Monday
night at home against the Philadelphia
Eagles to keep  any chance to  make the
playoffs. The Seahawks were on a four
game-losing streak.

The Eagles  were coming into the game
like it was a must-game as well.  Though
they had three losses on the season they
were on a two-game losing streak which
now is three. The Eagles had two long
drives in the first half. The first went for
a touchdown as quarterback  Jalen Hurts
went in on a run.

The Eagles second score was a field goal
in the second  quarter  after a bend don't
break defense.  The Seahawks  showed on
the night they need improvement stopping
the run. The Eagles  ran for 178 yards while
Seahawks had 100.
The Seahawks scored late in the first half.
Though it would have been nice to have a
touchdown they settled for a field. Though
the Eagles  had a chance with less than
two minutes remaining to score again they
couldn't.
The Seahawks  had the ball to lead off the
second half. The Seahawks were able to
tie the game on the first drive ending with
a Ken Walker  touchdown 10-10. The Eagles
were able to return the favor on their first
drive of the second half which turned out
to be their last score of the game.
The Seahawks kicked a field goal at the ten
minute mark to make it 17- 13.  DK Metcalf
caught a pass to  setup the final touchdown
of the game and the win. Metcalf had 5 catches
in the game to lead the Seahawks though no
touchdowns.  Jaxon Smith-Njiba  caught the
final td with 28 seconds remaining  in  the  game.
Safety  Julian Love had two interceptions  in
the 4th quarter to  he.lp out  to nail the victory
to.
I am sure most fans believe Drew Lock should
start  next Sunday against the Tennessee Titans
on the road. The Seahawks record is now 7-7.
There are several teams in the NFC with the same
record so the Seahawks need to win all three
games to make the playoffs.  The remaining
three games are against teams with losing records.
See what happens.  Go Hawks!

Washington Huskies Win A Close One

The Washington Huskies men's basketball
team hasn't lost in a long time to Seattle
University and Sunday evening was a close
one. The Huskies won in two overtimes
100-99 at Climate Pledge Arena.

The Huskies sometimes and more often
then not off to a slow start. Seattle U. had 47 points to the Huskies 33 in the first.
The Huskies were able to versa their play in second half to go through two overtimes.
The game was kept close threw the two overtimes.

The Huskies had six players in double
figures. They were led by Keion Brooks
Jr with 22 points and 9 rebounds.
Sahvir Wheeler who came off the bench
had 19 points and kept dishing out
14 assists as well.

The Huskies shot well from the field
making 40 of 73. They shot from.behind
the 3 point line 8 of 17 which is good. Seattle did well shooting though not quite as well as Washington though took a
few more shots. Seattle had 46 rebounds
while Huskies had 44 so real close.
Free throws were close as well.

The Huskies will take on Eastern Washington on Thursday in the final
non-league schedule.

The Seahawks take on Philadelphia
at home on Monday night football.

Any other news comes forward let
you know.

Zags and Cougars Lose

The Gonzaga Bulldogs lost Friday at the Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle to the
Connecticut Huskies 76-63. Second
time they lost to  a Huskies team losing
to Washington 78-73. They did have a win
between the two losses beating Mississippi
State Valley last Monday 78-40.

The Zags didn't lead throughout the game
which doesn't occur to often. Connecticut
who is ranked fifth in the country and won the national tournament last year led by
eleven at halftime.

The Huskies shot better than the Zags
making 29 of 52 from the field while
Gonzaga made 23 of 59. Also  the Zags
made only 2 out of 12 behind the 3 point
line. Trouble they had against Washington
as well. The Zags did out rebound Connecticut 32 to 26 but couldn't take
advantage of the differences.

The Huskies had three players in double figured while the Zags had two. Anton
Watson hsd 20 points for the Zags and
Ryan Nembhard had 15.

The Zags have one game left before Christmas on December 20 at home
against Jackson State.

WSU Cougars lost to Santa Clara at home Saturday afternoon 69-61. In this game the
Cougars out rebounded Santa Clara as well
but couldn't take advantage as well. The
Cougars had 44 rebounds to Santa Clara's
36. The Cougars didn't do well behind
the three point line making 7 of 26 shots.
Santa Clara made six with only 16 attempts.

The main difference in the game Santa Clara made 17 out of 20 from the foul
line while the Cougars had only 10 of 14.
Forward Isaac Jones led the Cougars with
16 points. They had two other players in
double figures too.

The Cougars will play their final non-league
game Thursday night at Boise State.
First Pac-12 game will be at Utah on
December 29. Go Cougars!

What's Next On Mariners

We have no idea what of the Seattle Mariners
are going to do next. We know they need
to add a couple of outfielders and a DH
who can play in the field as well. Whether
that is at 3rd or 1st base or the outfield.

Chairman John Stanton announced this
week the Mariners will take over one
hundred percent of Roots Sports  NW.
This means in his mind avoidable pricing
on cable TV. Does this  mean pricing on
Xfinity as it was when the baseball  season
ended. We will see, won't we?

There is much more to do for the Mariners
to get the fans back on their side. I  know
it is disappointing for a team that made
the playoffs  in 2022  for the first time in
21 years then missed out by two games in
2023 then looks like they are going back to
square one though they deny it.

Anyway  I  hope to  see  something positive
over the next couple of weeks.  Go M's!

Seahawks Thursday

The Seattle Seahawks play Monday
night at home against the Philadelphia
Eagles.

The Seahawks have lost four games
in a row while the Eagles lost to the
Cowboys last week. The Seahawks
could have beaten the Cowboys
between the two 49er losses but
didn't.

Most fans are not key Geno Smith
and neither is most of the media.
Not his fault the offensive line
hasn't done well because of injuries.
Ken Walker has been out as well.
Zach Charbonnet is fine however
two healthy running backs help.

The Seahawks have injuries on
defense as well. Since the defense
isn't great having some starters out
along with backups to not a good
sign.

The plus sign Drew Lock gets to
practice with the first unit. Second
quarterback doesn't get a chance
to practice a lot and with the best
receivers help.

Complaint the Seahawks don't
tackle well. I am not sure about
the season however training
camp or even before that they
are not able to. I surprised they
even know how to tackle anymore.

Since injuries are so common
in the NFL cutting down on
tackling during practice sort of
makes sense but looks bad in
games. Tackling should come
back and teams take their chances.

Players don't always practice
during the week either with injuries
so amazing games are as good
as they seem. The reason is they
are so good players.

I wonder how much practice squad
players practice as well. They should see
action against the first unit while
the second unit goes against second
unit. The trouble though they don't
have enough players to field a third
unit. Actually thinking about it with
rosters they do have there should be enough players. First two units come to 44
players and the rosters are 65  so you have
enough for a third unit to practice and more.

The Seahawks have lost four games
in a row and this one looks like a win
for the Eagles as well. The Eagles
have given up almost as many points
as the Seahawks however score more
points.

The odds are against the Seahawks to
win this one but to make the playoffs
this is almost a must win. A fifth loss
in a row the Seahawks are likely done.
We wish them the best. Go Hawks!

Local College Men's Basketball

The Washington  State Cougars  had the
most recent game Sunday  beating
Grambling State  83-65. Not a big
surprise Makes the Cougars 9-1 while
Grambling State is 2-8.

The Cougars  were led by Jaylen Wells
with 17 points off the bench. Issac Jones
had 16 points and led the Cougars with
seven rebounds. They had four players
score in double  figures. They shot 56.4%
from the field.

Grambling  State  was led by junior guard
Kintavious Dozier who had more than half
their points at 34. A career high. On average
he scores 14.3 points a game.

Saturday  the Cougars  take on Santa Clara.
They are  7-3 and be a tough opponent.

Gonzaga who lost Saturday  to the Huskies
78-73 take on the  UConn Huskies  on Friday
night at Climate Pledge  in Seattle. Could
be another loss for Gonzaga.

The Huskies take on Seattle University on
Sunday in a city rival.Since the Huskies and
them have played again Seattle hasn't won
a game and don't  expect it this time.

All the teams start conference  games at
the end of December.

When Mariners Make Another Move

It has been more than a week since
the Seattle Mariners  traded Jarred
Kelenic, Marco Gonzales and Evan
White to the Atlanta Braves to drop
salary.

The Braves were busy trading Marco
soon after to the Pittsburgh Pirates
who could use help in the starting
rotation.  A day or two later White
was traded back to the AL West to
the Los Angeles  Angels. The Braves
traded one of the players they got to
the Chicago  White Sox.

Now that Ohtani  signed a ten year
deal with the LA Dodgers for $700
million which most of was deferred
other signings and trades should
happen. The Mariners should be one
of those teams.

I read on a few occasions  what the
Mariners  lineup would look like if
the season  were to begin today. It
means there is work to do.

Do you think that next season  will
be better than the team that missed
the playoffs by two games. It looks
a rebuild at this point unless the
Mariners  spend what they picked
up in the dropping of salary.  We can
speculate why they dropped salary.
Mariners  lost money or did not make
as much as they wanted.

I have mentioned  on social  media
several times that spending money
will make money. Trading Eugenio
Suarez and Kelenic  for the most part
will save on strike outs and the same
for not resigning Taeoscar Hernandez.
The defense of Suarez at third base
along with the two corner outfield spots.

It will be interesting to  see  what happens
though sooner than later  would be nice.
At least a couple guys before Christmas.
Get back to this later or soon in the  meantime
have a good holiday.

Seahawks Take Another Loss

The Seahawks are having trouble
winning games of late. Trouble
they lost twice to the 49ers .
The latest Sunday SF 28 Seattle 16

The Seahawks offense did better
this time under Drew Lock against
SF. The trouble they had trouble
stopping the. The 49ers scored a
touchdown each quarter.

The Seahawks had a touchdown and
field goal in the first quarter after SF
had their own. Seahawks 10 49ers 7

The Seahawks didn't score in 2nd and
4th quarter. The Seahawks were down
21 to 16 headed into the 4th. SF scored
early on in the 4th. Seahawks had
opportunity however DK Metcalf
couldn't keep his cool and was kicked
out on personal foul. A 49er was penalized
as well kicked out. Altercation was by
San Francisco but Metcalf couldn't
keep it at that. The Seahawks may
have scored and made it interesting.

Christian McCaffrey rushed for 145
yards while Zach Charbonnet had
44 yards for Seahawks. One of the
reasons defense had trouble.

The Seahawks take on Philadelphia
Eagles next Monday night. The Seahawks
have lost four in a row. They now have
to stop the bleeding. The Seahawks
have given up 318 while Eagles have
given up 321. The Seahawks have chance
to score however the Eagles have scored
342:while Seattle 280. This means
could be a close game however the
Seahawks need to win. The Seahawks
are tied with the Rams at 6-7. The
Rams beat Seahawks twice so to
make the playoffs they need one more
win then Rams to get in. Actually
still won't get in maybe. There are
three other teams at 6-7 while Vikings
are 7-6. Go Hawks!

Huskies Upset Bulldogs

Though the Huskies  were on their
home court most felt #7 Gonzaga
would beat them and likely convincingly.

Gonzaga had won 16 straight games
against Pac-12  opponents so it wasn't
far fetched. The Husky crowd along with
Gonzaga fans made it quite emotional.
The last half of the second half the fans
were all standing.

The Zags had built an 11-point lead
early on in the second half however the
Huskies didn't waiver in their play. The
defense was the major reason they won.
The offense often had turnovers and
playing out of control.

Keion Brooks Jr led the Huskies with
17 points and 8 rebounds. The Huskies
had five players scoring in double
figures. Guard Koren Johnson  scored
11 points coming off the bench. He
scored all the points from the
bench.

Center Franck Kepnang was the one
playing a lot of emotion as well as good
defense. He had a career-high five
block shots along with 14 points
and 7 rebounds. Kepnang recently
has been starting. The reason is his
emotions help the Huskies who
have been a  slow starting team get
off to better starts. How much he
plays will be whether he gets off to
a strong start and doesn't get into
foul trouble. This has put former
starter Braxton Meah playing a lot
fewer minutes.

The Huskies have a week  off before
taking on Seattle University on their
court next Sunday. They finish their
non-league schedule  on Thursday
at home against Eastern Washington.
They begin Pac-12 play on the road
at Colorado on December 29 and
finish 2023 at Utah. Go Dawgs!

The Zags play their next game on
Monday  against  Mississippi Valley
State at home. They take on the
Connecticut Huskies next Friday
in Seattle at Climate Change Arena
in Seattle.  They finish their non-league
schedule on December 20 at home
against  Jackson State. Go Zags!

Weekend Sports

Here in Washington  state in basketball
on Saturday  the Huskies are host to the
Gonzaga Bulldogs. How good are the
Huskies we should find out since it is
the highest-ranked team they have
played so far. Also heading into Pac-12
conference play.

The Washington State Cougars take on
Grambling State at home on Sunday in
men's basketball.  A week from now
the Cougars will play Santa Clara at home.
This should be a good match-up since
Santa Clara is usually  the second-best team
in their conference next to Gonzaga.
The Cougars finish their non-league
schedule the Thursday after that
on the road at  Boise State. The
Pac-12 conference schedule begins
the last week of December. They
will play at Utah and Colorado for
the last time in the same conference.
The Seattle  Seahawks play the 49ers
in the Bay area on Sunday. Geno Smith
is hurt and a game day decision.  His
time playing on Thanksgiving was a
disaster as we know. Did well against
the Cowboys the following  Thursday.
The question  should we see Geno
play in this one or have Lock play instead.
Personally I  would start Drew Lock and
see how he does. The Seahawks  could
always  put Geno into the game if Lock
isn't doing the job.
I  would prefer having Geno healthy for
the Eagles on Monday night the following
week. The Seahawk's chances still come
down to whether  the defense can stop
the 49ers. Go Hawks!

Seahawks Friday

Though they lost against the Dallas
Cowboys on the Thursday before
last it was an entertaining game
and the Seahawks may have won.

This Sunday the Seahawks play the 49ers
on the road. It doesn't look any better
for the Seahawks then the last time they
played two games ago.

It was one of the worst games for
Geno Smith since he wasn't healthy.
Thursday Geno sat out practice for
a groin injury. We hope for precaution
only. The Seahawks win this game
Geno needs to look like we saw against
the Cowboys.

We might see Ken Walker back at
running back this week though
he had limited practice time.  Also
Zach Charbonet who left the Cowboy
game with injury had limited practice
as well.

The chances are good that the 49ers
defensive line will be after the Seahawks
and like the last outing won't be a pretty
sight. The Seahawks defense will have
to improve and they are expected to be
without linebacker Jordyn Brooks.

The best to the Seahawks and we hope
a better outcome.

Winter Meetings Come To End

Besides the trade of  Kelenic, Marco
and Evan White the fan fare of the
Winter Meetings  end.

One thing we know Juano Soto won't
be coming  to  Seattle  being dealt
to the Yankees.  How better will  the
Yankees  be if we care we will  find out.

Ohtani  hasn't  signed with anyone  yet.
If he signs with the Mariners  it will be
a shock. Maybe it is their point.

Since the Mariners need. two outfielders
and hopefully  a 3rd baseman hopefully
hear something  soon. It is sad to hear
poverty  to though they just said about
clearing up money  to improve the team.

I hope they are geniuses instead so next
season  won't  be  a  long one. Go M's

Washington Huskies Men's Basketball Beat Montana State

The Huskies football team has made the
most news this year however the men's
basketball  season  is  underway.

Washington  Huskies  had maybe their
best outing so far on the season blowing
out Montana State 85-61. This was after
losing to Colorado  State 86-81 on Saturday.
Colorado  State is a good team who beat
Colorado before who is a good team too.

Montana State were within  one point of
the Huskies  16-15 however was downhill
after that. Huskies  led 43-28 at halftime.
The Huskies actually had a 31 point lead
before the final score.

The Huskies did this with leading scorer
on the season Keion  Brooks Jr having
only 9 points. The Huskies were led by
center Franck Kepnang with 16 points
and 11 rebounds in 19 minutes. Kepnang
recently  became the starter at center
with Braxton Meah who started last year
coming off the bench. Meah played 15
minutes with 8 points and 4 rebounds.

The Huskies shot 52.5 % from the field
and being 50% behind the 3-point line
making 8-16. They had 17 assists and
15 turnovers which they can improve on.
Rebounds they had 44 compared to
Montana  State's 26.

The Huskies take on Gonzaga Saturday
at home. Whether they when or lose it
will tell us where they are at.Last  Saturday
the Zags beat  USC 89-76 and Tuesday
beat Arkansas-Pine Bluff  111-71. The Huskies
will have to play  well  to win and not lose
in double figures.

The Washington State Cougars beat Portland
State  71-61 last Saturday.  The  Cougars were
led by Isaac Jones with 27 points and 11 rebounds.
It was the second half the Cougars did the job
as it was tied 31-31 at half time.  The Cougars
take on UC Riverside at home Wednesday night.
On Sunday  they take on Grambling State. Go Cougs!

Mariners Speak Up

I know Jerry  Dipoto  is  the  president  of
the Seattle  Mariners,  however,  CEO or
whatever his title  John Stanton should
speak out. Stanton  needs to tell the
fans and media where he and the ownership
are thinking.

My opinion which I  have mentioned before
adding more payroll  in the right way will
bring championships which means more
profit. Seattle  has  shown with a winning
product fans will come out. I see many if
not most games will  be sellouts  which
brings more profit than they have already
have.

The ownership  group doesn't  see spending
money for the right players then they should
sell the team. Look at the 2001 roster where
they won 116 games. They had good support
players besides Ichiro and Bret Boone to mention
a couple of their top players.

The Mariners might be bringing in the right
players but we need to see action besides words
from Dipoto.  John Stanton  has said before he
is a baseball fan too. Show us John.

Mariners Make AnotherTrade and Huskies bound.

Sunday evening  the Mariners  made
another move giving us more questions
then answers. Obviously we have to
trust Jerry  Dipoto  what he is doing
though very hard.

The Mariners  traded outfielder  Jarred
Kelenic, first baseman Evan White and
starting pitcher Marco Gonzales. I  have
no problem  trading at least Evan White
and Marco. White has been since he
signed  his extension and the Mariners
have no starting spot for Marco. Kelenic
obviously  was in the doghouse since
salary doesn't save a lot. I  may included
Dylan Moore  in the trade to save more
money. They mave have discussed it
with the Atlanta Braves who were their
trade partner.

What I can't  believe is what the Mariners
got in return. Though it is salary dump
you think the Mariners could have gotten
prospects  or at least better ones in return.
The Mariners received two pitchers in
return.  One pitched part of three seasons
in the major leagues with Kansas City with
little success. Maybe the Mariners can turn
him into a success story. The other is a
20 year old who I am not sure how high
a prospect  he is.

In college football  the Washington Huskies
are going to play Texas in the Sugar Bowl
on New Year's  evening. The Texas Longhorns
are favored in the game although they have
the number three ranking while Huskies are
ranked second. The Huskies  will take the
underdog  approach hopefully leading to
the national championship.  Whatever happens
it has been  a great Huskies  season. Go Dawgs!

Washington Huskies Will Hear News

Sunday the Washington Huskies
will hear who they will play in
National Championship series
in the first round.

It will be interesting to hear
what comes as number one
Georgia lost to number eight
Alabama in the SEC conference
game 27-24.

It would be nice if the Huskies
played Michigan in the first
round in the Rose Bowl however
that may not happen as Michigan
and Washington both need to
be two and three in order either
way.

No matter how the national
championship series goes
for the Huskies it has been
an outstanding season being
13-0.

The Winter baseball meetings
are about to start. We will see
what kind of trades the Mariners
make and free agent signings.

I think it is only conjecture the
local med and fans are not
happy with Mariners ownership.
We have to see that changes
or not. They believe ownership
doesn't care about winning or at
least get into the World Series.
Many want the team sold to
someone who does.

I personally hope they do increase
payroll to get the players they
need to make a better ball club
and not just to please the fans.
Let's see and hopefully good
news.

Will Michigan move up to
number one after beating
Iowa in the Big Ten conference
game Saturday 26-0.

Seahawks Lost a Wild Game

Thursday  Night  football  on prime
was quite  entertaining  and wild for sure.
Final Dallas 41 Seattle  35

As you can see by the score neither
defense had a good time. Though the
main reason  the Cowboys  won they
were  able to stop the Seahawks on
4th down three times and the last
one cost the Seahawks  the game as
a Cowboy was able to sack Geno Smith
around the one minute mark with the
ball turning the ball over and all the
Cowboys had to do was neel and run out
the clock.

Geno Smith  played a wonderful game
outside the times the offensive line
broke down.  Most of the time they
worked fine. Geno threw for three
touchdowns and ran for one. If
he can play this way in San Francisco
in the next game the Seahawks have
a good shot to beat the 49ers.  The
defense  has to do better.

The disappointing part of the game
besides losing was how many penalties
the referees called. It seemed like every
other play at least. The penalties may
have been correct however do they have
to call them each time. Let the players
really  play. It might have been a different
outcome  if they didn't  call so many
penalties especially pass interference.
They affected both teams but the Seahawks
most of all. The Cowboys scored at least
once after  a  pass interference.

Now the Seahawks  have ten days to prepare
for the 49ers. News came out  the game
against the Philadelphia Eagles has been
changed to Monday night. First time a
Monday game has been changed on flex
schedule.Go Hawks!

Seahawks Thursday

This is one of the rare times
where the Seahawks  have
back to back games on a
Thursday  night.

The Seahawks  play the Cowboys
in Dallas. The Seahawks are 6-5
while Cowboys  are 8-3.

I wouldn't  read a lot into the records
of the two teams though what you
have done lately  may make a
difference.

The Cowboys have very good record
however they haven't  beaten a team
with a winning record. Now will the
Seahawks  be the first one for them
to do so.

The Seahawks  offense hasn't been
very good in recent  games though
you could say that way most of the
season.  The Seahawks will likely
be without Kenneth Walker once
again the backfield.  The Seahawks
need to  have the running game be
average at least to win the game.
Whether the problem with the offense
is Geno Smith or the offensive  line
we can make a toss up.

I do hope  Geno is close to one hundred
percent. If he gets off to poor start I
hope he is taken out for Lock. I  have
the feeling  that  won't  happen and
notch another loss for the Seahawks.

Anyway  I  do hope we can enjoy the
game where don't  think of turning
the channel  or the TV off. Whether
they win or lose give us hope. Go Hawks!

Huskies and Cougars Men's Basketball

Most Huskies fans and students along with alumni
are thinking and waiting for the Pac12 Championship
game on Friday.

The men's basketball team beat University California
of San Diego Tuesday night. The score was 83-56.
The starters for the most part except the center played
thirty minutes or more. Want to get to know each other
better during games. Three of the starters were in double
figures only Moses Wood who played a lot had only
8 points. Hopefully he will get hot soon.

Keion Brooks Jr who is expected to be the Huskies
scoring leader on the season led with 18 points along
with 12 rebounds. His former teammate at Kentucky
Sahvir Wheeler had 17. Wheeler is scoring better
then expected and when the competition gets more
fierce we will see. Colorado State is next up on Saturday.

The Washington State Cougars beat Eastern Washington
Monday night 82-72 at home. They are now on a three
game winning streak. They take on Portland State Saturday
afternoon athome. They are 5-1 on the season.

The Cougars had five players in double
figures led by guard Myles Rice with 28
points. The difference in the game was
the first half where the Cougars led 40-32.
This is quite the deal for Rice since he
missed last year with Hodgkin's Lymphoma.
We wish him the best and he has a healthy
career with WSU. He is currently averaging
29.2 minutes a game and 17.2 points a game.
So far so good. Go Cougs.

Gonzaga played Tuesday night as well
beating Cal State Bakersfield 81-65. The
first half the Zags led by 15 points.
The Zags had six players including all
starters score in double figures. Anton
Watson who had 11 points dominated
the boards with 13 rebounds. They take
on USC Trojans on Saturday.

Mariners and the Winter Meetings

The major league baseball  winter meetings
begin next Monday.  Often this starts where
teams begin makings moves.

Will the Mariners  sign hometown  free agent
and Cy Young Winner  Blake Snell  to a big deal
before or during  the meetings.  Snell  has been
seen around town like never before and makes
no qualms  he wants to play for the Mariners.
The question  is  how bad do the Mariners want
him.

The Mariners may look to sign Snell  so they
can trade one of the youn starting pitchers
most likely Miller or Woo. If the Mariners don't
strike  now they likely  never will. The Mariners
don't  have  really any other pitchers in the minors
to deal.Walter Ford is really the only one left.

In the last couple years the Mariners have drafted
several  shortstops in the early rounds. One of
them could be traded as well  or possibly in another
year. The Mariners  have Harry  Ford  as well. Do
they keep him at catcher or move him elsewhere.

Not making the playoffs  and trading Eugenio Suarez
the Mariners  need to make some positive  moves
to make this a better team. If they don't make the
playoffs  again in 2024 another shakeup will need
to happen. They can't  miss this opportunity. It would
be nice to sign Ohtani  as well.  Don't want to be left
standing being number two once again.

So let's  see  whether anything will  happen this week
or we have to wait for the next couple weeks. Major
deals usually happen around  this time though other
deals not as significant  could happen later. Go M's.

Seahawks Lose To 49ers

The Seahawks  lost their second straight
game and things won't get any better.
Final San Francisco  31 Seattle  13

This by far was the Seahawks worst
performance  on national  television
that I  can remember.

The 49ers  scored in their possession
taking about five minutes  to  score
a touchdown  by Samuel.

The Seahawks  moved on their first
possession  however was stalled and
kicked a field goal.  They only had one
other possession where they moved
well and they had to kick a field goal.

Geno Smith who hadn't  practiced since
Rams game played the whole game.
What a big mistake in my book. Coaches
especially  Pete Carroll do not like to
take the starting quarterback out of the game.
In my opinion Geno should  have been taken
out in the second half.

The 49ers  scored 17 straight points in the
second period to make it 24-3 at half time.
Jordyn Brooks intercepted a pass early on
in the third quarter  on a tip ball for a touchdown.
It was one of the few exciting times in the
ball game.

Another  time was when rookie Jaxon Smith-Njiba
caught a long pass from Geno with one hand.
The ball normally  would not have  been  caught
since it was a little  overthrown and Jaxon athletic
ability  kicked in.

Whether it is next Thursday  or  not  if Geno Smith
isn't  one hundred percent  healthy  start Lock instead.
Outside  of  Smith-Njiba there wasn't much of a passing
game. Metcalf caught three passes however other
attempts were not effective  at all. He wasn't seen in
the second half  and Tyler Lockett who was invisible
in the first half had three catches in the second half
looking like giving hope.

On one of the possessions  in the second half the
Seahawks  went on 4th and one. Pointed out the
Seahawks  need a field goal  along with  a couple
touchdowns.  They decided  to  go for it and the
49ers stopped them for a loss. It should have been
the time to kick the field goal  though you think they
could make one yard. This was a game they didn't
play well so it wasn't meant to be. Go Hawks!

Mariners send Eugenio Packing

I was hoping for a trade by the Mariners
but not like one they did.  They sent Eugenio Suarez to the Diamondback's for
a minor league catcher and a reliever. This is the second catcher they have acquired
since season ended. Why they haven't
resigned Tom Murphy. Though he has
been hurt more often in the last couple
he is a better choice than others until
Harry Ford is promoted.

The catcher they acquired is supposed to
be a pretty good defensive one. Whether he can hit we will find. The reliever Vargas is
supposed to be a hard thrower who is
#24 in Arizona's farm system. Hopefully the Mariners know something we don't.

Now who will play third base. Maybe another trade is in the works.

The Huskies are now ranked #4 in the country heading into the Apple Cup. They beat the Cougars and win the Pac-12
championship they should be.

I wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. Enjoy the Seahawks and 49ers game.

#2 Purdue Beats Gonzaga

Monday afternoon  Gonzaga was playing
Purdue in the Maui Invitational. Not often
are the Zags  the underdog.

The first half  the Zags looked like  they
would upset Purdue  leading  35-30. The
Boilermakers  turned up the heat on the
Zags on defense. The Zags scored 28
points while the Boilermakers scored 43.
Final Purdue  73 Gonzaga 63

The Zags had three players who scored
in double  figures  however their top
player Anton Watson had only  8. Also
frequently  the Zags leading rebounder
Watson only had two. Where the Zags
had their biggest downfall  was they
only made 6 of 32 behind the 3-point
line. Had they made 12 instead which
is 37.5 percent  they  would have won.

The Zags take on Syracuse on Tuesday
afternoon so see if they can do better.

The Washington Huskies  men's  team
split in Las Vegas beating Xavier on Friday
74-71. In another close game the Huskies
lost to  San Diego State in a high scoring
affair 100-97. The Huskies  were led by
Keion Brooks Jr with 22 points. All five
starters scored in double  figures. Franck
Kepnang who usually  comes off the bench
started scoring ten points while leading
with 8 rebounds.

The Huskies are now 3-2  in non-league games.
They don't  play again  until  next Tuesday against
University of  San Diego at home. The Huskies
have five non-league  games in December. The
biggest one is against Gonzaga on December 9
at home. The begin Pac-12 season on the road
on December  29th  at Colorado.

WSU  Cougars  are 3-1 in non-league  games.
They lost their first game on Saturday to Mississippi
State 76-64. They came back to beat Rhode Island
on Sunday 78-57. Isaac Jones led the Cougars with
21 points. The difference  in the game the Cougars
bench scored 35 points while Rhode Island had 8.

The Cougars next game will be home against Texas
Tech on Friday.  Go Cougs!

Seahawks Lose To Rams Again

The Seahawks  should have beaten the Rams
Sunday  afternoon  instead lost for the second
time. The Rams can't  really  beat anyone else.
It ended a three game losing streak.

The Seahawks  lost Kenneth Walker in the
first quarter  with injury  then Geno Smith
was hurt and out for a little while.

Some may blame Jason  Myers not making
field  goal  at the end. The truth was the
defense couldn't  close it out.The Rams won
17-16 scoring ten points in the 4th quarter.
Had the Seahawks  were able  to  stop the
Rams from rushing and not allowing  them to
kick a field  goal  near the end.

If you going to play a close game the defense
needs to stop the opposition.  Also the
Seahawks  had some critical penalties on
both sides of the ball.

Next up on  Thanksgiving is the 49ers. Important
not to make mistakes  and  stop the  49ers
offense too.Go Hawks!

Cougars Win Friday night

Washington State Cougars won the
championship for last place in the Pac-12
conference beating Colorado 56-14.
This ended a six game losing streak
go the Cougs. Next Saturday they
will take on the Huskies in the Apple Cup.

The Cougars scored 21 points in the first and second quarters then 14 in the third.
Colorado scored a touch down in the first
and fourth quarters. Their first touchdown
was after the Cougars were leading 14-0.
Of course never got closer.

Quarterback Cameron Ward completed 18 passes for 288 yards and two touchdowns.
He ran for two touchdowns too. Josh Kelly caught six passes for 130 yards however
no touchdowns.

The Washington Huskies beat Xavier in
men's basketball. Xavier led at half time 37-30 then outscored them in the second half
by ten. I would consider it a quality start
winning 74-71. The Huskies will take on
San Diego State on Sunday. Both these
games are in Las Vegas.

Keion Brooks lead the Huskies with 20 points. Also  newcomer Sahvir  Wheeler
had 18. Sophomore Koren Johnson came off the bench with 10. Backup center
Franck Kepnang led with 12 rebounds.
The Huskies are now 4-1.

Colorado At Washington State

At the beginning of the season both
Colorado  and WSU had great starts.
They both were in the top 25 in the
country. Now they are tied at 1-6.

Deion Sanders was right at the top
of the coaching ranks. Now you
wonder if anyone including Colorado
would want him.

These two teams face each other Friday
night in Pullman Washington. The game
will be televised on Fox Sports One.
How many are going to watch the game
including  their own fans. At least someone
should win though a tie would be appropriate.

News came out that the Cougars and the
Beavers should have six teams from the
Mountain West be on their schedule in
2024. It maybe to soon to merge however
may by 2025. A new conference whether
called Pac-8 or by another name will need
to happen by the  2026 season.

Most likely the Cougars and the Beavers
will have a mass exit through the transfer
portal. It will be senior night for 17 Cougar
players so it will be great to honor them
with all they been through with covid and
the news the Pac-12  was breaking up.
It would have been  nice if the Cougars
could have continued on the path they
started at in their first four games. Life
isn't  fair as  we know. Rooting for the
Cougars to end their losing streak. Go Cougs!

Thought of Cody Bellinger To Mariners

I have seen  several sites and groups
about the Mariners  signing Cody
Bellinger. Some would like to see him
in a Mariners uniform.

Bellinger  is 27 years of age and has
played in the  majors seven years.

His best years should be ahead of him.
2023 was his best season  since 2019
when he had 47 home runs, 115 rbi's
and a .305 batting average.

2020 and 2021 were off years while h
didn't  play  a lot of games. He had a
fully season  in 2022 and he only
batted .210 and had 19 home runs
along with 68 rbi's  in his last year
with the Dodgers.

2023 was a rebound where he batted
.307 with 26 home runs and 97 rbi's.

Is Bellinger  worth signing. How many
years and amount?

The question will be who will he be like.
Do you like the extension the Mariners
gave Kyle Seager  at the time and did
he live up to it. Can the Mariners afford
Bellinger  to have any bad seasons or
if he has one good season  like 2019
or 2023? I would say take the gamble.
Go M's.

Gonzaga Bulldogs Win Going Away

The Zags  beat Eastern  Oregon Tuesday
night in a big fashion 123-57. Not a big
surprise since  Eastern Oregon is an NAIA
school and haven't  won a game yet in
three outing.

The big test for the Zags  is  next Monday
when they take on #2 Purdue in the Maui
Invitational. This will tell us how good  they
are. The important  thing for them is to get
off to a good start and stay in the game.
Things work  out  they win.

The Zags have a lot of new players so it is
important  they are learning  to  play  together.
Let you know how they do and what players
are being effective.  Most teams when they
get into conference  play go with eight or
nine players. Right now they could be going
ten. Against  Purdue  they could go with
the eight depending on foul trouble.

We will check back next Tuesday  to  see
how they did. Go Zags!

Seattle Mariners Nothing Happened Yet

Nothing came out of  the  general  manager's
meeting that we know of. Is no news is good
news we will  find out  I guess.

Coming up next will be the owner's  meeting .
Whether the Mariners  or other teams makes
moves beforehand  we will see.

The Mariners  have made moves in November
before so we hope so it will happen.  Personally
I  don't  like this dead time. You will find sites
for team's  fans that bring speculation instead
of news. I  would prefer telling you something
will happen.

Obviously  the Mariners  will need to get another
outfielder  who might bat right-handed. Right
now they have Jarred Kelenic and Dominic
for the corner outfield  spots and they both hit
left handed.

They have Dylan Moore who is right handed hitter
but I  am  not  thrilled there. He might be a good
defensive  player in the outfield and infield but
hasn't hit very well for the Mariners.  He did have
a season  back I think  in 2019 where he hit in the
clutch though his average  wasn't  high though
better than since 2019. He is hooked to  a  three
year contract with two years now remaining.  I
don't  mind him on the team as long as the Mariners
pick up another bench player who can hit.

Jose Caballero  as a rookie last year did a good
job last season  until  the second half when his
hitting  declined. I  would platoon him at second
base if the Mariners  don't  pick up another player
to play full-time.  They have Josh Rojas  who is
lefthanded hitter who did fine when he came over
in the Paul Sewald  trade.  In fact better  than expected.
They have Ryan Bliss who they picked up in the
Sewald trade as well.  He was named defensive
player in the Arizona Fall League.  When he is ready
we will find out. He can play shortstop as well.

Hopefully  some trade or free agent signing comes
soon. Go M's.

Seahawks Back To Win

The Seahawks  game  Sunday against
the Commanders was who would have
the ball last and could do something.

The Seahawks  had the ball on the last drive.
It looked  like they might run out of time.
The Seahawks  had to lineup quickly to
spike the ball before the clock ended.
Fortunately  they were able to and Jason
Myers was able to make a field  goal for
the win.

Final Seattle 29 Washington  26

Sunday's game was one where the Seahawks
passed the ball  a lot more than running. It
didn't  look Geno Smith  and the receivers
were in tone a lot.

Even so Geno completed 31 of 47 passes
for 369 yards and two touchdowns.  The
key is always  do they get it done when they
have to.

The Commanders did a good job against
the Seahawks running game so had to use
the pass. Ken Walker  had 63 yards on 19
carries. Normally  he would have been near
the one hundred yard mark. Walker did have
a great pass. Receiving touchdown for 64
yards.

It was one of those passing days as the
Commanders  threw 44 times. They didn't
run either though they had better yardage
per carry  than the Seahawks.

The 49ers won as well so they and the
Seahawks  are  still tied at 6-3. Next week
the Seahawks  play the Rams in Los Angeles.
See if the Seahawks  can revenge the loss
in the opening  game  of  the  season.
The Seahawks will  be  at home to play
the 49ers on Thanksgiving.  Go Hawks!

Another Wild Finish For Huskies

The Washington Huskies won their
tenth game of the season beating
Utah 35-28.

It was a wild game. The Huskies
tried to shoot their foot several
times. Another game they may
or should have lost.

The first half ended Utah leading
28-24.  Rome Odunze had his
second touchdown of the day in
the second half. They had a field
goal and a safety all in the third
quarter.

The safety happened after the Huskies
made an interception then the ball
after 76 yard run back was dropped on
the one yard line. Two Huskies besides
the interceptor celebrated in the end
zone while a Utah player landed on the
ball. The Huskies were fortunate to
tackle in the end zone for the safety.

The Huskies looked like they were
going to clinch the game however
Michael Penix Jr. was sacked for
a loss then with 1:38 remaining their
field goal was blocked. The Huskies
playing fine defense were able to
stop Utah going anywhere. On 4th
down safety Dominique Hampton
intercepted to end it with less than
a minute to go.

Utah had 306 total yards in the
first half while only having 76 yards
in the second half. Utah had the
ball less than nine minutes. The
game was wild and bazaar all the
way through.

As much as the Huskies have
played wild games beginning with
the win  over Oregon the Cougars
are having trouble winning a game.

The Cougars opened the season
with four straight wins including
beating the Huskies next opponent
the Oregon State Beavers. The Cougars
can't win a game right now.

The Cougars lost to California Golden
Bears Saturday 42-39. The Cougars
were behind the whole game. They
scored a touchdown with 5:23 remain
in the game but couldn't even kick a
field goal to tie.

The Cougars were behind 28-24 at the
end of the third quarter. The same score
the Huskies were behind at half time
in their game. California scored two
touchdowns in the 4th quarter before
the Cougars did the same.

It looked like the Cougars would be in
a bowl game however now it doesn't
look like it. Next week the Cougars
play Colorado. Another team who got
off to a good start. Now these are the
two worst teams in the conference.

We don't know the future of the Cougars.
Along with Oregon State they may play
a schedule next year as independents.
Most of the games probably be against
teams from.the Mountain West. In
fact these teams could merge together
in the next two years. The Cougars and
Beavers will likely play each other.

It will be interesting since there likely
be a mass exit of Cougar players
through the transfer portal. The coaching
staff who knows as well. There is a law
suit against the other members of the
Pac-12 conference. That will likely be
settled by money. Anyway best of
luck to the Cougars and Beavers.

Zags and Cougars Both Win

Gonzaga got off to a slow start having
to come back from a slow start. In the
end they beat Yale 86-71.

Can't always tell how a team will do
after one game though the Zags are
expected to be good once again.

The Zags had five players in double
figures and were led by forward Braden
Huff coming off the bench with 19 points.
It helps when you have a player like Huff
coming off the bench. Let you know how
other players do throughout the season.

The Cougars beat Prairie View at home
83-65. This makes them 2-0. The Cougars
were led by forward Isaac Jones. He is a transfer from University of Idaho where
he played one season after playing junior
college basketball for three years. Jones is a local player from Spanaway Washington.
He hsd 18  points as well as 11 rebounds.
See how he does as the competition gets
better.

The Cougars will have a week off before
playing Mississippi State at home next
Saturday. Good time to practice on their
weaknesses and improve on the strengths.
Go Cougs!

Washington Huskies Win Game Two

Washington  Huskies  beat  Northern Kentucky
Thursday night 75-67. The  Huskies played a
better team than Bellarmine in game and the
score indicates it.

The Huskies  already look like better team
than last year's.  They have lapses especially
in the first half offensively. Playing  man to
man defense they look better too. Example
the Northern Kentucky guard and leading
scorer Marques Warrick had only six points
and they were all late in the game. He played
35 minutes as well.

Playing  man to man defense allows the Huskies
to start three players up front instead of three
guards in the past six years under Hopkins.  The
Huskies  could be a better team and I  expect so
then the 8th place  finish  in  this Pac-12 season.
If they do play well  it may keep Hopkins job.

This game the Huskies  started three forwards
in Keion Brooks Jr  who had a career high 32
points, transfers Moses Wood and Wilhelm
Breindenbach. Most likely  in the long run
Breindenbach will come off the bench. Braxton
Meah had been hurt so he is coming off the
bench right now and he didn't play a lot being
in foul trouble.

The Huskies went with ten players  in the  game
the starting five played a large amount of the
minutes. Koren Johnson who started game one
came off the bench and played twenty minutes.
Sunday the Huskies  play a better team in Nevada.
So how coach Hopkins gives minutes  will be
interesting. We could see more minutes out of
the bench.

The Washington State Cougars won their opener
Monday night beating Idaho 84-59. They take on
Prairie View Friday night. The Cougars like the Huskies
have quite the turnover of players too.

Small forward Andrej Jakimovski led the Cougars in
scoring  with 21 points. I believe he is the only returning
starter for the Cougars. Jabe Mullins  is the only bench
player I am familiar  with. He played 17 minutes and
had three points. He can score in double  figures  so he
can be a valuable  asset.

Gonzaga Bulldogs  play their season opener at home
on Friday  night  against Yale. Expect a large win though
can expect anything from a Ivy League school. The Bulldogs
will have a different  team  around this time. Let you know
who the starters  are  and who primary bench players.
Go Zags!

Mariners At General Managers Meeting

The start of the general managers meeting
Jerry Dipoto  made known that the Mariners
are going after contact hitters either by
trade or free agent  signings or both.
I  would call that controlling  the  zone.

I know Dipoto  knew that before the season
ended however the success of the Texas
Rangers winning the  World Series added
the stamp to it.

One thing we should know is the rebuilding
of the Mariners  is over and it is adding pieces
to the puzzle. The Mariners  need to make
the playoffs  in 2024 or there is a likely change
at the top. They were only two games out of
the playoffs in  2023. Had they played in
September  like they did in. August win wise
anyway  they would have been  in the playoffs.

Outside of JP Crawford many of the position
players went back to bad habits in September.
The pitching was not as good either. One example
was George  Kirby who struggled a couple times
after being sick. Another Luis Castillo  who didn't
pitch well  in his last outing  that would have  helped
the Mariners  get in.

Now the Mariners  now go after where they can fix
what was broken and improve what wasn't. Let's
see what happens  over the next month or so. Go M's.

Washington Huskies Men's Basketball Win Opener

On Monday  night  the Washington Huskies
men's team beat Bellarmine University from
Louisville  Kentucky.

This game wasn't  expected to be close
with the Huskies  winning  91-57. The
Huskies  got off to slow start like they
have been accustomed to  since Hopkins
has been coach.

The Huskies  do have eight new players
and two expected starters didn't  play
or played little.  The Huskies  take on
Northern  Kentucky  Thursday night
so both mayplay since it will be tougher
competition.

Sophomore  Koren Johnson  led the
Huskies  with 25 points. Whether he
will start a lot of games or not showed
so far he should play some good minutes.
Keion Brooks Jr  expected to  be  the
Huskies  leading  scorer  once again had
22 points. If he can average around there
it will. He was named to Pac-12 preseason
first team.

The  Huskies  at least  in one game improved
shooting behind the 3-point line  going 10 of
20. Keion looked very impressive behind the
line. He worked  on it during  the off-season.
For him to play in the NBA  he needed the
3-point  shot to be much better.

Next time up and throughout  the season
we will let you you know how different players
will do. Most of the Huskies games early  in
non-league will mostly be at home. They have
three games in Las Vegas.

We will let you know to how the Cougars  and
Gonzaga do as well.  The Cougars  have a big
turnover on their roster like the Huskies.

Stove League Starting

The Seattle Mariners decided not to
give Teoscar Hernandez a qualifying
offer. Had they he could be on a one
year deal just over $20 million. He could
have declined and the Mariners would
have a compensated draft pick. This doesn't mean he won't be back Hernandez
can still sign a multi year contract with
the team but he is on the open market
now.

Another player it seems is on the market
is Tom Murphy. He didn't sign a new deal
yet with the Mariners. Murphy might be
looking for a multi year contract. His
injury he likely won't get from anyone
except the Mariners. A contract for Murphy
with the Mariners has a lot to do with
Harry Ford as well. Ford is athletic so he
could play elsewhere besides catcher.
He could play first, second or third base.
Doing so he could still backup Cal Raleigh
though the Mariners would still want a
third catcher on the team too. A lot depends what President of base operations Jerry Dipoto has on mind.

The Mariners did make a move on Monday
acquiring catcher Blake Hunt from Tampa
Bay for another catcher minor leaguer Tatem Levin's. Hunt is now on the 40 man
roster. Luis Torrens rejected to be optioned to Triple-A. So now he is a free agent.

Right now it looks as though Jarred
Kelenic is the right fielder while Dominic
Canzone would be the left fielder.  We look into more of that in the near future. Go M's.

Seahawks Ofdense Struggling Against Ravens

I expected the Seahawks  do better than a field goal
playing the Ravens in Baltimore on Sunday.

The Ravens are  a good team and they beat
the Seahawks  37-3.

Not only did the Seahawks  not score more than
a field  goal  the Ravens at a good rush on them
not allowing  Geno Smith  to get the ball down the
field often. Ravens had four sacks on the day.

The  Seahawks  had only 16 yards on the ground
by Kenny Walker on nine carries. In the air rookie
Jaxson Smith-Njiba led with six catches for 63 yards.
Tyler  Lockett  was the only other one to catch more
than one pass. He had three for 32 yards.

The Seahawks  take on the other Washington the
Commanders at home next Sunday afternoon.
See if the Seahawks can recover. Now tied with
the 49ers  at 5-3. Go Hawks.
