Marco Says Ready To Go

As the Mariners  get ready for opening
day next Thursday Marco Gonzales  says
he is ready to  go. If you looked what
he gave up in runs in 4 and  2/3:innings
may wonder.

Marco gave up six runs with two in the
third and four in the fourth. He gave up
a two-run homer to Chicago Cubs New
right fielder from Japan in Suzuki. Marco
had one walk and seven strike outs along
with nine hits. He says that he is ready
to go. We will see won't we. He may have
one more start in the spring.

Julio Rodriguez  led off the game against
the Cubs with a  double. Made a running
mistake when Ty France had a hit after
him. He wasn't  thrown out at home just
ended going to  third only. Unfortunately
he ended up staying there with the next
three outs. Rodriguez again played in
center  field. We will know soon he makes
the team or not. Dipoto and Servais are
keeping it quiet for now.

Jarred Kelenic had a  couple hits while
playing in left. A position he might play
frequently if Rodriguez is on the team.
We do know the outfielders will be at
DH with a different one going each time.

Cal Raleigh is starting to hit consistently
having a triple in the game. He is going
to make it difficult to  send him down
for the opener.  Currently Luis Torrens
is hitting the best among the three
catchers so looks like a sure thing and
he is out of options so the Mariners
can't send him down without going through
waivers which isn't  happening.

Thursday  night the Mariners play Cleveland
with Chris Flexen on the mound and the
game will be on TV. Go M's!

Logan Gilbert's Outing

Tuesday Logan Gilbert made his second outing.
Logan stats didn't look good as he gave up five
runs in three and two-thirds innings. He gave
up a run in the first then did fine in the second
and third inning. He struggled in the fourth
inning giving up a two-run inning.

It wasn't a good game for the bullpen either
as the Mariners lost to Kansas City 11-4.
My opinion Gilbert will be just fine and
so will the bullen.

It was announced on Tuesday the Mariners
finalized the trade with Cincinnati Reds
sending pitcher Connor Phillips as the
player to be named later. Phillips was
drafted in 2020. He was listed as the
Mariners #15 prospect. Hard to know
at this point whether he will make the
major leagues or not.

The Mariers played much of their
bench or minor leaguers against
the Royals. Luis Torrens had a
couple hits showing likely he will
be on the team. The question will
still be whether Cal Raleigh will
be. Tom Murphy though is struggling
at the plate and his defense is
questionable as well though the
pitchers feel comfortable with him.

Marco Gonzales will make his
third start of the spring against
the Chicago Cubs. Most likely
Marco is slotted in the third
spot behind Robbie Ray and
Logan Gilbert. Chris Flexen
should follow Gonzales and
then the fifth starter which
right now looks to be Matt
Bash. Go M's.

Rashaad Penny and More

This will be about Football though I hope
to keep to once a week during  the  off-season.

Last week Rashaad Penny  resigned with
the Seahawks.  He feels Chris Carson and
him can be a good tandem in the backfield.
The question  can both of them stay healthy.

I figure at least one of them stays healthy
they have other backs to help out. There
is a possibility Chris Carson won't be
available.  Time will tell.

We will see what the Seahawks continue
in free agency and trades before the NFL
draft.

On Monday Washington Huskies head
coach Kalen DeBoer announced linebacker
Edefuan Ulofoshio is going to miss some
of the 2022 season. Edefuan  missed the
second half of last season. This injury
happens to do with off-season conditioning.

Graduate student Cam Bright a transfer from
Pittsburgh will start in Edefuan's spot while
Carson Bruener will be at the other spot.

The Huskies have three other linebackers to
backup Bright and Bruener in Daniel Heimuli,
Alphonso Tuputala and junior college transfer
Demario King.  It will be important for them
to stay healthy.

The Huskies  spring camp  begins on Wednesday.
Stay up to date right here.

Mariners Win Monday

Robbie Ray had his second start
of the spring on Monday. Ray will
have one more start before starting
opening day on April 7 in Minnesota
against the Twins.

Ray pitched well for the most part
going four and a third innings. Ray
had a shutout going into the fifth inning when he gave up two runs.
Ray gave up three hits, two walks
and six strike outs. I expect Ray
will try to go six innings in his next
outing so he will try to go seven
innings in the season opener.

Julio Rodriguez started once again
in center field. He had two hits including a double while scoring and driving in a run. Right now Julio
looks like he will be on the team
when the season starts. The roster
will be 28 for the first month before
going to 26. I say enough time to
see how Julio will do.

Abraham Toro had another hit as
he continues to be the best hitter
in spring. The Mariners will need
him in the lineup most of the time.

Oh by the way the Mariners beat
the Texas Rangers 6-5. Eric Swanson
struggled giving up two runs in the
9th inning. One of rules with giving
out saves Swanson record the save
despite giving up the two runs. Swanson is expected to make the
team but he probably won't be
pitching the 9th inning often. 😊

Cal Raleigh caught again along
with getting y hit while scoring
and driving in a run. I know it is
spring but he is hitting a hundred
points higher than Tom Murphy.
The thought Raleigh won't be
on the opening day is beyond
me.

The Mariners play Kansas City
Royals on Tuesday. Go M's

Matt Brash and George Kirby

Sunday the Seattle Mariners beat
Oakland A's 7-1. Matt Brash had an outstanding outing going three innings
without giving up a hit or walk while
striking out six. Matt Brash pretty much has sealed the fifth spot in the rotation unless Jerry Dipoto finds another starter.

George Kirby pitched well after trouble
QA in his first outing. He went three innings to giving up three hits, one walk and striking out sixth. Kirby struck out
the side in his last inning. Though he likely won't start the season with the
Mariners we will see him sometime during the season.

On the hitting side it looks like Adam Frazier will be the leadoff hitter. He had three hits on Sunday. Eugenio Suarez had a home run in the first inning scoring two of the three runs. Cal Raleigh who came in for Luis Torrens had a home run in the 8 the and Dylan Moore in the 9 th.

Monday afternoon Robbie Ray will
start against the Rangers. We will see
whether Kyle Seager' s brother Corey
will face him. The Mariners have a game every day this week. Go M's.

Projecting Opening Day Mariner Roster

I have read a couple projected opening
day roster for the Seattle Mariners. I find it
interesting Cal Raleigh isn't shown  being
there. Personally I  hope they are wrong.
Yes Tom Murphy is having a  good spring
and likely a leader on the team. Cal Raleigh
is the future catcher so he should be on
the team. If not then the Mariners made a
poor choice in drafting him and should look
at trading him. A one man's opinion. Besides
the Mariners have more offense this season
and I  don't think Tom Murphy and Luis Torrens
are going to  light things up on both offense
and defense.

The season will start with a  28 man roster
until  May. Manager Scott Servais is not
happy major league baseball says they can
only go with 13 pitchers when May comes.
It should be a decision by each team. In a way
he is right, however, do you want to hold
strings having less position players. Thankfully
the Mariners do have several players who can
play multiple positions.

What I have read where the Mariners will go
with five pitching starters, ten relievers, five
outfielders,  six infielders and two catchers.
They list Tom Murphy and Luis Torrens as
the two catchers with Cal Raleigh starting
in Tacoma. Not my choice as I already stated.

News came out that Evan White will be out
for some time with a sports hernia and will
need surgery.  Ty France will be the primary
first baseman while they have several others
backing him up. Abraham Toro who is having
a fine spring will be one of them along with
Dylan Moore. Both considered super utility
players. Luis Torrens  could play some first
base which means more to have Raleigh
around. Also, I  have heard of  using left
fielder Jesse Winker at first base. Of course,
Ty France will  play the bulk of time at first.

In the outfield the Mariners going with five
means Julio Rodriguez and veteran Billy
Hamilton will make the roster. Julio has
been playing a lot of  center field during
spring  so he may play some there. The
thought is Winker, Kelenic, Haniger and
Rodriguez playing most of the time in outfield.
One of the four as a dh. If Winker and Kelenic
struggle against left handed pitching then
Julio would be in center with Dylan Moore
in left. Billy Hamilton has played a lot of
center field so he may play some out there
to. He is a switch hitter so he could start
against lefties and have Julio in left.

Besides France the rest of the starting infield
is set to. They will have  Adam Frazier at second,
Eugenio Suarez at third and JP Crawford at short.
Toro will  play some second and third. Moore
will backup Crawford at short as well as all the
other infield spots and outfield.

What is your opinion about the  opening day
roster? We do have until April 7th when the
season starts so things can still change. By
the way Kyle Lewis likely won't start the season.
Maybe Hamilton be there until Lewis is ready.
Also, depends how Julio  begins the season.
GO M'S!

Mariners Win Friday night

The Seattle Mariners won their first night
game beating the Chicago White Sox 3-0.

Marco Gonzales went four innings in his
second start of the  spring. Marco gave up
two hits while walking three and one strike out.
Fortunately the walks didn't hurt him.

Four relievers who should make up the bullpen
pitched Friday night.  Paul Sewald came in
first giving up a hit but stuck out two while
Ken Giles followed by giving up a hit, however,
struck out three batters in an innings each.
Drew Steckenrider and Andres Munoz each
went an inning without giving up a hit and
striking out one. The bullpen  looks good
so far.

Adam Frazier lead off the first with a double
and Ty France drove him in. The Mariners
had the other two runs in the 5th inning when
Mitch Haniger hit a double to drive in two runners.

Right now the pitching is ahead of the hitting.
I am sure continue at the beginning of the season
as well.

The Mariners take on the Milwaukee Brewers
Saturday afternoon  on the road. Chris Flexen
will make his second start of the spring.

The Mariners announced Ichiro will throw out
the ceremonial first pitch in the opener against
Houston Astros on April 15. Go M's .

Logan Gilbert Made Start Thursday

Logan Gilbert made his first start of the spring
Thursday afternoon going three innings. Logan
gave up one hit and a home run in the second
inning as the Mariners beat Cleveland 3-2.

Logan looked good striking out six batters
while surrendering one walk along with
the hit. He is expected to make only three
appearances in the spring before the season
begins on April 7. Cleveland by the way
doesn't go by Indians any longer. They
are now known as the Guardians. I know
it will take time on it.

Veteran major leaguer Billy Hamilton
drove in the final two runs in the eighth
inning with a double. Hamilton last week
signed a minor league contract with Mariners.
Hamilton made his mark with the Cincinnati
Reds where he played six years and four
straight years he had over 50 stolen bases
in each. Last year in a limited period he
played for the Chicago White Sox.

If you haven't heard Gonzaga was upset
on Thursday in the NCAA tournament
losing 74-68 to Arkansas. Another season
without winning the crown. Though
the Bulldogs have had success in the
last 25 years they still are waiting to
win a championship. I am sure another
downer for all Gonzaga fans.

Tacoma Rainiers baseball

The Tacoma Rainiers the triple-A team
of the Seattle Mariners  start there
season  at home against Salt Lake  City
on September 5. This is a couple days
before the Mariners start their season.

This will mean the last cuts for the
Mariners will  happen a day or two
before the Rainiers start their season.

The Mariners  have nine pitchers on their
40-man roster not counting  non roster
invitees.  The Mariners are expected to
go with eight relievers so at least one
will not make the opening day roster.

The Mariners have seven  starters on the
40-man roster with five starters so at least
two will be sent down depending whether
they acquire another starter.

I read where the roster is supposed to be
28 players for the month of April then
going to 26 in May.  The two extra players
could be  on a practice squad and be active
when needed.

The position players will be 13 on the active
roster. Whether the Mariners  go with two or
three catchers we will see.  If they go with
two most likely Cal Raleigh and Tom Murphy.
Luis Torrens could be  the extra player or be
added on to the opening roster to where he
will dh and play some first base.

Say the Mariners  go with two catchers means
they will have three bench players including
whoever is dh. The Mariners will  probably go
with four outfielder plus two extra infielders
where at least one  can play the outfield too.

Right now the two infielders look to be
Abraham Toro and Dylan Moore. This could
change if Evan White makes the ball club.
The outfield would mean Julio Rodriguez be
number four unless Kyle Lewis  is healthy to
play. Moore along with Adam Frazier  can play
in the outfield. The same for White if he makes
the ball club.

So at least two infielders will go to Tacoma plus
White if he doesn't make the ball club. Taylor
Trammell who made the opening roster last year
likely be  going to  Tacoma.

The last couple of the roster spots on the Mariners
won't be easy to make. Have less than two weeks
what happens.

Robby Ray Makes Debut

Robbie Ray  pitched four innings Tuesday
against the Chicago  Cubs. He was able
to go four innings.

Ray gave up one hit, a walk and a  home run.
On Roots Sports after leaving  the  game Ray
wasn't happy giving up the walk to a left
handed hitter.  Ray certainly  looked like he
was ready for the  season.  He enjoyed Cal
Raleigh  being his catcher.  Expecting Cal
to be his catcher  for the most part.

Abraham Toro  had another good day at the
plate. Toro once again played at second base.
At this point he looks to  be in the lineup a
lot whether second or third or elsewhere.

The Mariners  have a  day off Wednesday
and resume on Thursday.  The baseball  season
starts in two weeks against the Twins in
Minnesota. The Twins  now have Correa at
shortstop.  Certainly  increased their payroll.
They added catcher Gary Sanchez in a trade
with the  Yankees as well.

We have to see how  things workout with
Houston Astros without Correa. At least won't
have to face him as often. Go M's.

George Kirby Makes First Start

Former numer one pick by the Mariners
in 2019 made his first start of the spring.

Last year Logan Gilbert came up early
on the season to have a good rookie
season.  We hope more from Logan
this year. Kirby is the next one in line
to come up into the starting rotation.

Kirby  didn't do well Monday in his first
starting  appearance. He gave up six
runs in one and two-thirds innings.
The Arizona Diamondbacks got five
hits off Kirby and a walk with two
home runs. The Diamondbacks won 9-1.

Matt Brash trying to make the starting
rotation pitched two innings giving up
one hit , a walk and strikeout without
a run. We should see him start in his next
outing.

Abraham Toro  was the only hitter with
two hits in the game and drove in the
only run. Toro started at third base,
however, right now Eugenio Suarez is
expected to start at third. It will be
interesting to see  where else Toro
will play in the spring. He should make
the roster as one of the extra players.

The Mariners take on the Chicago Cubs
on Tuesday afternoon.  See how the
Mariners do coming out with a 1-3   record.

Monday, March 21, 2022

Chris Flexen First Outing

Chris Flexen  who was the Mariners top
pitcher last year in wins had his first outing
of spring.

Like  Marco Gonzales he was able to  go
three innings giving up two hits and one
run. Flexen is expected to be in the
middle of  the rotation.  Jerry  Dipoto  is
expecting to  pick up another starting
pitcher through trade or free agency.

If Flexen  can pitch anywhere  close to
what he did last season he will  be a
good member of the rotation. The importance
is staying  healthy.

Speaking of  health  the Mariners announced
Casey Sadler a solid pitcher in the bullpen
last season will be out for the season.  We
will have to see who takes his spot. He
ended last year pitching 28 scoreless innings.
Primarily he was the  first pitcher coming out
of the bullpen.  We wish Casey a full recovery.

Local Veteran Does Well For Mariners

Steven Souza Jr. a veteran  outfielder
who signed a minor league contract
with the Mariners  right after the end
of lockout.

Souza made his spring training debut
on Saturday for the Mariners. He hit
a grand slam in the first inning to lead
the Mariners  to victory over the LA
Dodgers. He obviously  was player of
the game. Going to  highlight each
player who was the player of the game.

Souza is a local  player from Everett.
Last year  he played in 17 games for
the  Dodgers so the home run was sweet
for him.

His best season in the majors was for the
Tampa Bay Rays where he hit 30 home runs
in 2017. The chances will be hard for him
to make the  Mariners as an outfielder but
never know. He will add depth if he starts
in Tacoma.  Has a good spring will open
eyes for other teams to.

Julio Rodriguez Hits Homer

Though he didn't start the opening
game in spring training known as
the Cactus League Julio Rodriguez
hit a massive home run with two
runners on base.

The Mariners went on to lose 6-4.
Of course, a win or loss isn't
important as getting ready for the
season and who will be on the team.

Julio had two at bats with the second
one being a walk. Can't  blame the
San Diego Padres walking him.

The Mariners are going to take every
opportunity in Julio Rodriguez in
making the opening day roster.
He is going to play all three outfield
positions. He played in  center field
Friday going in for Jarred Kelenic.

The Mariners take on the LA Dodgers
Saturday. We will see who may shine
in this game. Go M's!

Sad news came out in local radio
sports John Clayton passed away.
Known as the professor and hall of
fame sports writer. He covered the
Seattle Seahawks for many years
on KJR and then KIRO 710. Worked
for ESPN many years too. He came
down with an illness taking him
quickly. No one knew the NFL like
Mr.Clayton as one of the guys calling
into his regular show on Saturday on
KIRO called him. Our condolences go
to his wife Pat and the Clayton family.
He will be missed for sure.

Jarred Kelenic Superstar or not

Last year Jarred Kelenic  had the pressure
on him coming up as the top prospect in
the Mariners system.

Most if the season  he put the pressure on
himself. He did perform well the last couple
weeks of the season. He and the Mariners
are hoping  it is the beginning of better
things.

Those who  have  seen  him hitting in training
camp like Jerry Dipoto and  manager Scott
Servais believe his bat is looking more relaxed.

Jesse Winker has taken him under his wing
as well. When he came up with the Cincinnati
Reds he was a top prospect to.  He knows the
pressure doing so as well.

Kelenic told the media he is doing the same for
Julio Rodriguez to. Wants him to know the
pressure and pitfalls of being a top prospect.

Whether Kelenic or  Rodriguez become superstars
or not the importance is being at least good major
leaguers.  Having Winker and Eugenio Suarez in the
lineup well as Ty France and Mitch Haniger will  help
Kelenic wherever he is placed. Where Kelenic begins
the season the spring training games will tell.

Friday is the opening game so where Kelenic is gives
us a better idea. I  am  sure  he is facing a right-handed
or left-handed starter will determine his spot in the
lineup up too. Stay tuned go M's.

Mariners New Teammates and More

The Seattle Mariners added more
fire power to  the offense on Monday.

So far Jesse Winker  and Eugenio
Suarez seem to  be  working out
well for the the Mariners in training
camp.

Along with the signing of  pitcher
Robby Ray before the lockout the
Mariners  seem to be an improved
team. Not only in talent but how
each one is working with their
teammates.

April 7 we will start finding out
how it works.  The Mariners could
add  ore parts to the  puzzle as well.
News came out Kris Bryant signed
a six- year deal with the Colorado
Rockies so Jerry Dipoto must have
known something up when he made
the trade.

The Seattle Seahawks signed three
free agents. Outside linebacker Uchenna
Nwosu formerly of the LA Charges,
cornerback  Artie Burns with Chicago
Bears last year and guard/center
Austin Blythe who played last year
with Kansas City.

Looks like three veterans who can help
the Seahawks. Nwosu is known best
as a pass rusher while Burns will help
with the  loss of DJ Reed to the NY Jets.
Reed became a good corner for the
Seahawks. Going to mission for sure.
The Seahawks have need at center so
 Blythe might fit in nicely.

More moves coming up for the Seahawks
so see who lands here.

The NCAA tournament known as March
Madness starts Thursday. See if Gonzaga
can make the run all the way. 😊😊

Abraham Toro Super Sub

The acquisition of Adam Frazier from the
San Diego Padres in the fall and  on Monday
f Eugenio Suarez from Reds Abraham Toro
is a player without a position.  We should
see Abraham Toro  in the lineup frequently
anyway.

We hope to see the Abraham Toro we saw
right after acquiring him before the trading
deadline and not at the end of the season
when he went into a slump.

Being a  switch hitter will give Toro advantage
playing several positions.  The  Mariners  could
see him in the outfield and first base as well
as second and third. He may be at dh sometimes
against right handed pitching.

Suarez  bats right-handed so could see Toro
playing third against right-handed pitching
sometimes. Frazier a lefthanded hitter we
should see Toro  sometimes against lefties.

Depending on how the outfield works out we
may see Toro out there as well. Both Winker
and Jarred Kelenic hit left handed  so Toro
could be out there against lefties. This would
depend how healthy Kyle Lewis is as well. I
expect Lewis would be the Mariners top choice
in the outfield against lefties. We hope Lewis
to be healthy all season.  It depends to Julio
Rodriguez makes his debut in the majors too.

Anyway wherever Toro is  able to play and
how often is a good sign for the Mariners.
The  Mariners look to have improved offensive
lineup over last season. Go M's.

Mariners Make Trade Monday

The Seattle  Mariners  made a  trade
with the Cincinnati  Reds that was
finalized Monday afternoon.

The Mariners  picked up two players
that were two  parts in a way. The
outfielder  is Jesse Winker who
batted over .300 facing right handed
pitching.  He does hit left handed and
most likely  be platooned as he doesn't
hit lefties  to well.

The other is third baseman Eugenio
Suarez. He may start at third base
but Abraham Toro will see action
there to well as second and first
base. Toro likely be known as a super
sub.

The Mariners gave up outfielder Jake
Fraley, pitcher Justin Dunn and prospect
pitcher Brandon Williamson. Also, the
Reds will pick up a player to be named
later as well. The Reds are expected to
pick up part of Winker's multi-year contract.

Right now  the starting outfield looks like
Winker in left, Jarred Kelenic in center and
Mitch Haniger in  right. Against lefties
Kyle  Lewis  will play left field and possibly
center sometimes  depending on his health.
Against  righties  Lewis may dh. Against
lefties probably see Luis Torrens at dh unless
he is catching.  This would depend on  whether
Tom Murphy  is  doing well  or not or is even
on the team.

Winker played five seasons with the Reds. In
2021 he had 24 home runs and 71 rbi's.
Should help  offensively with the loss of
Kyle Seager. He will  probably  bat somewhere
in the middle of the batting order.

Actually  Suarez is a home run hitter as well
from the right side. He has been with Reds
longer than Winker who was the key to the
trade. Suarez actually hit .198 but had 31
home runs. Didn't know  that until I  looked
it up.

Does this mean the Mariners  won't sign
Kris Bryant. Not sure but the Mariners could
still sign him and move Suarez. The days
ahead will be  interesting.

Jake Fraley  I  enjoy watching. I  hope he
is able to tone his talent in Cincinnati. Not
sure  of the outfielders on the Reds. I hope
he has good  chance to play. Justin Dunn
missed a lot of 2021. Probably wouldn't
have had much of a shot in Seattle this season.
I wish the  best for  him too.  Williamson we
didn't get a chance to  see pitch but the talent
the Mariners have in the farm system we wish
him the best too. Go M's. 😊😊

Seahawk make moves

As we are waiting  for the  Seattle Mariners
to make  moves the Seahawks  made
signings of their  own players  on Monday.

I heard over Seattle  sports radio that
safety  Quandre Diggs signed new deal for
three years  as well as  tight end Will Dissly.
Also defensive  lineman Al Woods did to.
Not sure how long Woods deal is but likely
for one year. I  am sure other deals will
come to.

As far  as  the Mariners   no free agency
deals made yet. Heard the Oakland A's
traded first baseman Matt Olson to the
Atlanta Braves for two top prospects
and a couple  other minor leaguers. So
to pull off a  trade for  a  top player might
cost the Mariners  more than they want to.

I  am  sure  teams will  ask for outfielder
Julio Rodriguez  and pitcher George! Kirby
but that likely  not happen.  Stay tuned.

Mariners Make A Couple Moves Sunday

Nothing big did the Mariners do on
Sunday,  however,  we hope make
big signings on Monday.

Catcher Jose Godoy and lefty pitcher
Aaron Fletcher were put on  waivers to
make room on the 40- man roster.
Godoy was claimed by the SF Giants
while Fletcher by the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Neither  player was likely going to make
the Mariners team out of  spring training.
This does  mean they do lose some depth
in triple-A, however,  this looks like the
sign the Mariners plan to sign a couple
free agents hopefully  Monday.

I am sure the Mariners  will  be done with
moves after this as well. I am sure Jerry
Dipoto is  looking at the waiver wire to  see
who might be available to pick up as well.
We hope not until after signings.

Kris Bryant is still  the biggest name out
there the Mariners are looking to  sign.
The Mariners right now shown to be at
the top of the list. Also, Trevor Story but
he could end up somewhere else. The
LA Dodgers is  one team mentioned. Likely
cost more for Story than what they want
to pay but we will see.  We hope today.

Want to know when the first spring training
game will be? It will take  place against the
San Djego Padres this Friday. It will be
interesting to see who they have to and any
trade between them.

I hope to  have another post Monday  with
good news on acquiring a  player. Go M's.

Sunday, March 13, 2022

Nothing heard yet on Mariners

When it comes to  free agent signings
or trades nothing heard yet. Maybe today
( Sunday) or Monday we will  hear about
a signing and or trade.

Kris Bryant  formerly of SF Giants and
Chicago Cubs has been  the biggest
name. Mariners  sign Bryant  he would
likely  play  third base with  an occasional
time at first base and outfield.

Another one is Trevor Story formerly of
the  Colorado Rockies.  Though he played
shortstop at Colorado  he maybe more
versatile than Bryant. You have to expect
shortstop can play almost  anyway. On the
Mariners  he could end up playing any of
the infield spots. JP Crawford is expected
to start at short most of the  time, however,
having Story  allow the Mariners to  give
Crawford a day off once in a while.  If the
Mariners  sign both Story and Bryant we
could see Story more at second and Bryant
at third.

Another  player the Mariners may sign is
Japanese  outfielder  Seiya Suzuki. Wouldn't
be nice to have a other Japanese outfielder
last name of Suzuki. The other one we knew
by his  first name as Ichiro. Not saying he will
be as good  but coming close wouldn't be
bad.

Trade wise no names out there in the rumor
mill, however,  we know Jerry Dipoto always
likes to surprise us. Go M's!

Hitters or Pitchers

Now that we know major league
baseball season starts on April 7
who will  be  ahead the hitters or
pitchers?

I am sure everyone has an opinion
Spring training will be  cut short a
couple  weeks.  They say Spring
training has been  as long as it is
so pitchers will be ready.  Is that
the answer we're looking for😅

For the starters a shorter spring
training will  be  fine. It is those
who are trying  to make the ball
club as extra infielder or outfielder
or end of the starting rotation or
the bullpen.

Though he has been  in Spring
training for a few weeks already
does this give Julio Rodriguez
an advantage to  make the ball
club at the beginning of the season
or will the Mariners start him in
the minors instead.

Up next free agent signings and
trades. Stay tuned to see what
happens. Want them in camp
as soon as  possible to.  GO M'S!

Baseball Everyone

Now that the major league baseball
lockout  is  over we will  be  having
Mariner baseball here every day.

Any other news  like what is going
on with Seahawks,  Huskies, Kraken,
Cougars and Gonzaga will happen in
a second story.

I know Mariner baseball  is  big here
so this how it will be.  When regular
season  begins on April 7, we will .et
you  know a little about how the game
went, however, more about the player
of the game. May have  to  add in the
pitcher  as well.

Friday morning General manager/president
of baseball operations Jerry Dipoto said
to sports media the Mariners will  go  out
to find a  couple more bats and another
starting pitcher whether through free agency
or trades. Stay tuned here to see what comes
about.  Go M's.

Huskies and Cougars Lose Round Two

The USC Trojans were favored
to beat the Washington Huskies,
howver, the Huskies made it
interesting losing 65-61.

The Huskies led in the second
half by eight points but led it
get it away from them. Terrell
Brown Jr led the Huskies with
23 points while Emmitt Mathews
had 12 points and Jamal Bey
had 10 points.

The Huskies would have won
the game had they gotten more
contributions. DaeJon Davis in
his game in his only season at
Washington had no points.

We know Brown and Davis played
their last games for the Huskies
we will see who else will. Bey is a senior so likely gone. Nate Roberts
a redshirtjunior has indicated he
may go through the portal. Though Roberts hasn't done a lot when it comes to offense his rebounding
could be an asset tobanother team. We will see who goesand who comes in. The Huskies havethree recruits at this time but will need additional help.

Another question did Mike Hopkins
do enough to keep his job next season.
Most likely since he does have a few
more years left on his contract unless
Syracuse calls. The Huskies will have
to continue improving for Hopkins
to get a new contract if he doesn't
go back to Syracuse.

The Washington State Cougars lost
to UCLA 75-65. A pretty easy win for
UCLA though they won by ten.

The Bruins had a 20 point lead before
the Cougars knocked down some 3-pointers. The first half the Cougars
had trouble knocking down shots
behind the line. They figured the only
way for them to beat the Bruins.

UCLA were by Jaime Jacquez Jr.
with 23 points. All but six points
were in the second half. The Cougars
were led by Andrej Jakimovski with
15 points. Tyrell Roberts had 14.
Michael Flowers didn't have a good
tournament scoring only 8 points.

The season is likely over for both
the Huskies and Cougars unless
they get into another tournament
besides the NCAA. Arizona, UCLA
and USC are almost locks to make
it. Colorado should make the NCAA
depending on their showing in the
semifinals Friday against Arizona.

Great News Today

If you haven't  heard the  baseball Lockout
is over. The players and owners agreed to
a five year  agreement.  Now we can really
talk about  baseball.

The players can report Friday with a week
to report. I am sure  the Mariner players will
be there Friday.  As many they can.

What is  next who will  the Mariners sign
as free agents and any trades. I am sure
general manager has trades already in
process and those who they had talked
to in free agency.

Bryant or Story, who would you like or is
there someone  else? Glad they have
Robbie Ray. Another starter do the
Mariners  need?

The first game of the  season will be
on April  7th. They will be in Minnesota.
Days ahead is baseball with some college
 basketball as well. Go M's

Huskies and Cougars Win first round

Wednesday night  the Washington Huskies
and WSU Cougars won their first games in
Pac-12 tournament.

The Huskies game was the last of the night.
They beat Utah 82-70. It was a  tight game
first half with Huskies leading 40-37. They
went on a 16-2 run early on in the second
half.

Terrell Brown Jr  led the Huskies  once again
with 22 points.  Jamal  Bey  showed what
he can do sometimes having 19 points.  For
the Huskies to win the tournament Bey  will
have to  play well.  Cole Bajema had 16 points
as well.  The next round the quarter finals
won't be easy as the Huskies take on USC
Trojans Thursday.

The Cougars beat California Golden Bears in
the first round 66-59. The  Cougars led by 12
points at halftime, however, California made
a comeback early on of the second half coming
with in four points.

The Cougars basically won the game making
18 out of  21 from the foul line.  Efe Abogidi
led the Cougars with 19 points. The Cougars
had four players scoring in double figures.

Thursday evening  game will be against UCLA.
The Cougars will need to play their best game
of the  season to  advance to the semifinals.

Boob Wagner Seahawks Release

Later on Tuesday the Seattle Seahawks
released middle linebacker Bobby Wagner.
In one day the Seahawks  salary cap went
down significantly for sure. The talent as
well.

The Seahawks are expected to go to
4-3 defense next season.  Maybe  not all
the time  but some of  it. Right now Jordyn
Brooks looks like guy in the middle. Cody
Barton likely  next to Brooks unless the
Seahawks draft a linebacker or sign someone.

The Seahawks don't have  much depth at
linebacker so a trade and draft one are
likely in the cards. Benson Mayowa and
Darrell Taylor are both listed as linebackers
as weeks Alton Robinson. Not the traditional
linebackers but they maybe  both on the
outside we will see.

Former Washington Husky  Ben Burr-Kirven
who missed all last season because of injury
may backup Brooks and Barton inside if he
is healthy. More changes will happen. Be an
interesting several next  months. Go Hawks!

Russell Wilson Traded To Broncos

The biggest  sports  story  today and likely
the  biggest  in some time in Seattle.  Would
be the biggest  since Randy Johnson was
traded to  the  Houston  Astros. That was
some time ago so this is probably  bigger
with social media  now around.

The Seahawks  traded  Wilson and a 4th
round  pick for two first round and two
second round picks, a fifth round pick
and there players

The three players  are  quarterback  Drew
Lock, defensive lineman Shelby  Harris
and tight end  Noah Fant.

Right now  looks like the Seahawks will
be in the seller again next season unless
the draft picks are outstanding or the
Seahawks  make another trade for a
quarterback. Stay tuned.

Gonzaga Wins Monday Night

The Gonzaga Bulldogs the number one
seed  in the WCC tournament along with
number one ranking in the country beat
San Francisco Dons  81-71.

The Bulldogs  got off to fast  start scoring
the first nine points going on to a first half
lead of 47-27. The Dons made a comeback
in the second half to get even down to single
digits.  A number of  turnovers by the Bulldogs
caused the problem.

The Bulldogs were led in scoring by Drew Timme
WCC player of the year with 22 points. Freshman
center Chet Holmgren  along  with guard Andrew
Nembhard each had 17 points.

The Dons were led by guard Khalil Shabazz with
27 points. Julian  Rishwain contributed 20 points
coming off the bench.

The Bulldogs  now play St. Mary's in the title game.
Gonzaga remembers them since they were upset
in the final game of the regular season. I am sure
Bulldogs will be ready. This Sunday  the pairings
for the NCAA tournament will be announced.

JP Crawford shortstop

I am sure  everyone  one is tired of
the lockout  and another week of
games likely  be canceled.

I wish both sides realize  they are
losing  no matter what happens.
They have agreed  on some things
 so let's  leave at that.

JP  Crawford  will be the cornerstone
of the infield  no matter  who is around
him. Ty France will be  at first base
though we  could  see  him at second
or third.  This would  depend  on  how
Evan White  is doing.

The Mariners  will  look to  add a free
agent for second or third as well.  JP
Crawford we expect to  improve once
again over the  last couple of years.
His defense  will  be the main thing
though his offense leading off will
be important to. At this point  have
no idea who bats second.

The exit and retirement of  Kyle Seager
means the middle  of the battle order
will  be  different. JP Crawford  his defense
may change where he might have to play
more toward third depending of who is at
third. It will depend on the batter as well.
A left handed pull hitter he will have to
play toward second. Also, a runner on
first as well.

The negotiations it does look like  they
are going to  stop the shift which is goo
I don't mind against true pull hitters I don't
like it against  every hitter. Go major league
baseball!

Washington Huskies Men's Basketball

The Washington Huskies beat  Oregon State
Beavers Saturday afternoon 78-67. The Beavers
got off having  a  lead early  however the Huskies
went on a good  run. They actually had a 23 point
at one point.

Terrell Brown Jr  who led the Huskies and the
Pac-12 in scoring had 34 points. It was  his last
game in Seattle.  The Huskies  finished sixth
place and will play Utah in the first round of
Pac-12  conference tournament on Wednesday
Night. For the Huskies  likely to make the NCAA
Tournament  they will have to  win Pac-12
tournament.

Jamal Bey  a senior had 15 points.  The rules
of the NCAA there is  a possibility he could
return.  Nate Roberts  had another outstanding
game with 13 points and 16 rebounds. He is
hinting of going into the transfer portal.

The season  the way it has gone coach  Mike Hopkins
may return.  Though they have a couple recruits the
Huskies likely will have to snatch some players from
the transfer portal.  The question besides Roberts will
any transfer out as well.  At least it won't be a mass
exit like last year.  Stay tuned!😊😊

Positive About MLB Lockout

There isn't a lot positive about the major league
baseball players being locked out, however, news
came out on Friday you can come and see the minor
league players workout at training camp.

Those who live in the area either this time of the
year or all year around it is a good thing.  The
positive thing is the Mariners coaching staff
along with management like general manager
Jerry Dipoto is there so they can view the
minor league players.

The players there are those not on the 40-man
roster. Though we hope to see Julio Rodriguez
this season thankfully he isn't on the 40-man
roster. It is tough for the players who likely
will not be on the major league team when the
season actually starts. Some of them will be
at triple-A Tacoma. I will give you a look at
those players I think likely will be there instead
of Seattle.

Matt Brash who the Mariners picked up in a
trade from the Padres at the trading deadline
in 2020 might be in the Mariners starting
pitching but could start the season at Tacoma.

Aaron Fletcher a lefty pitcher who spent most
of last season at Tacoma most likely start again
this year. Joey Gerber who missed all of last
season because of injury likely will start in
Tacoma as well. The Mariners bullpen is
pretty set so only have a spot or two to make
the opening day roster whenever that is.

Wyatt Mills who spent a little time with the
Mariners likely be in the Tacoma bullpen
too. He didn't look ready last year, hopefully,
more this time around. Juan Then who the
Mariners still consider a top prospect pitched
in Everett last year and most likely be at
double-A ball is on the 40-man roster as well.

Catching wise Jose Godoy who spent a little
time with the Mariners last year is the one
catcher who will likely start in Tacoma as
they have four on the 40-man roster. If
an injury happens to other three or one
gets traded he will be the one up with the
Mariners unless the Mariners acquire
another catcher.

In the infield Kevin Padlo, the Mariners
acquired from the Tampa Bay Rays
during last season then went to Tacoma
will be in Tacoma along with Donovan
Walton. These two the choices to be
recalled if injuries happen.  Evan White
who missed most of last season might
begin the season at Tacoma as well.
They figure Ty France will start at
first base. White makes the ball club
he might spend some time in the outfield
well as first base.

Julio Rodrigues is listed on 40-man
roster but he is in camp. Must be
a reason for that. They have two other
outfielders that will have a hard time
breaking camp with the Mariners as
well in Alberto Rodriguez and Taylor
Trammell. We see how things go with
them. Jake Fraley would be considered
the fourth outfielder unless Kyle Lewis
isn't ready at the beginning of the
season whenever that is.

Anyway that is the list and we will see
how things go. Minor league spring
training games are supposed to start
on March 16. We do hope the major
league players are in camp by then
or a couple more weeks of regular
season will be cancelled. Come on
owners and players get your act
together please. Not good for
us all.

Washington Huskies Upset Oregon

The Washington Huskies beat  Oregon
Ducks Thursday night 78-67 on their
home court.

The Huskies had lost six straight along
with 12 out of 13. This includes  losing
big time in Eugene in early  January.

Terrell Brown Jr and Emmitt Mathews Jr
each had 25 points. When wasn't  hot the
other one was.  The Huskies went on a
couple runs keeping the Ducks to get back
into the game.

Nate Robert's had his best game as a Husky.
He scored 18 points along with 16 rebounds.
Brown, Mathews and Robert's scored all but
10 of the Huskies points.

If the Huskies play this way in the Pac-12
tournament they could make the NCAA
tournament.  The Huskies could have
knocked out the Ducks unless they go
on run.

The Huskies now take on Oregon State Beavers
who lost twice to the  Cougars this week. The
Beavers haven't had a good season so the Huskies
should win. Go Dawgs!

Baseball First Week

On Tuesday major league baseball
announced the first week  of the
season  is canceled since they haven't
come to  an agreement yet.

This means the regular season will
be 156 games at the most.

The players and owners are getting
closer to an agreement  but not yet.
Every week  that goes by will  mean
six less games.

Both the players  and owners  now will
start losing  money so best to get this
done. Also, the fans which is us won't
be happy.  I  certainly  am not happy.

We hope they iron out  their  differences
this week.  I  wonder how much  this
will hurt the Mariners on the season.
At least we can watch minor league
baseball  in the places that have it.

Terrell Brown and Huskies

The Washington Huskies lost to the UCLA Bruins
on Monday night 77-66. They have two games
remaining in the season before the Pac-12
tournament.

Now the only way the Huskies make the NCAA
tournament is to win the Pac-12 tournament
which is very unlikely.

Terrell Brown Jr had 20 points against UCLA.
If it weren't for the season of Brown's I would
say the Huskies would have a very bad season
for sure. He is the one allowing the Huskies
to have a .500 record.

A graduate student this will be the only season
at UW for Brown. The Huskies now finish the
regular season against Oregon and Oregon State.
The Huskies again this season have had trouble
against Oregon. The likelihood of winning this
game on Thursday isn't great. The Oregon State
Beavers haven't had a good season so the chances
are better the Huskies will win that game.

It will be interesting whether Mike Hopkins returns
next season or not. He is still under contract so
staying for another year at least might still be in
the cards. We will have to see. We will keep you
to date on recruiting and any players that might
transfer in through the portal.

The Washington State Cougars beat Oregon State
Monday night 103-97 in overtime. The Cougars
had to come from behind with the Beavers ahead
at halftime 48-37. The Cougars though have had
one of those seasons going up and down.

The Cougars had six players in double figures.
They were led by their top player Michael Flowers
with 27 points. Again, most of his points were
made behind the 3-point line making 6 out of 10.

Baseball news the major league owners and players
are still negotiating to come to an agreement. I heard
a guest on KJR Am sports radio say that the owners
should have an agreement with the players already
in place. They have already benefited in the negotiations
and waiting any more time will cost them. They
should end the lockout. I certainly hope it comes
soon. They still be talking on Tuesday March 1.
