Mariners Take Final in Series

The Mariners beat the Orioles
9-3 in final game Thursday
afternoon.

Takeaways: The offense played
a lot of small ball. It looked exciting.
Sam Haggerty was recalled from
Tacoma for the second time. He
started in right field. Kevin Pablo
was sent down. Haggerty had a bunt
single in his first at bat. The ball was
thrown away so runner scored from
second base. JP Crawford had a swinging bunt to score to. He laughed
standing at first. The Mariners scored
three runs. Later they scored four runs.

Scott Servais was so happy in his
press conference because they had
three sac flies. Something had trouble
with all season. The Mariners can do
that the rest of the way have more
success.

The only long ball was by Julio Rodriguez who hit a ball into
the second deck. Didn't take long
to get there.

Chris Flexen went six innings giving up the three runs. Erik Swanson, Ken Giles and Penn Murfee each pitched an inning. Only Murfee gave up a hit.

Nice to see the Mariners win the series
after getting off to poor start in the
opening game. The Mariners also brought up outfielder Marcus Wilson
making his major debut. Most likely
Haggerty and Wilson will platoon
in right field for now. Wilson pinch
hit for Haggerty in the eight inning
and he drew a walk. Taylor Trammel
as expected was put on the injured
list.

The Mariners now have a four game
series against Oakland beginning
on Friday. Hopefully the Mariners
will win three out of four at least.
The Mariners are now tied for third
with the Angels at 36-41. Logan
Gilbert will start Friday for the
Mariners.

Mariners Shut Out Orioles

The Seattle Mariners game was
against the Orioles on Tuesday
Night was a good pitching duel.

Final score Seattle 2 Baltimore 0

Takeaways: Both teams had outstanding pitching with neither
starters giving up a run. Mariners
starter Robb Ray went seven innings
giving up only one hit. He did walk
three batters however struck out
eight. Diego Castillo and Paul Sewald
did their jobs each going an inning.

The Mariners may have scored runs
before the eighth inning however Orioles  played excellent defense especially the right and center fielder robbing the Mariners of at least a couple doubles.

Strange occurrense in the 8th inning
which allowed the Mariners to score
the two runs. JP Crawford was on
first base when Julio Rodriguez hit
a dribbler down the first base line.
He avoided the tag but hadn't touched
first base. I think the first baseman thought he did because he threw to
third base to try to get Crawford who
was trying to advance. Had he tagged
Julio it would have been the third out.

Jesse Winker who came up next hit a
towering high ball that looked to be a home run turned out to be a double
scoring Crawford and Julio and that was the ball game.

Taylor Trammel had to leave the game
with a hamstring pull. Most likely
will have to go on injured list. If so
the Mariners will have to make a
decision to bring up Jarred Kelenic or
an infielder which means Dylan Moore
for the time meaning plays right field.
Mitch Haniger maybe returning in the
next couple weeks. Kyle Lewis is taking some batting practice to. He might go
for rehab stint soon. Watching a video
of Kyle he looks better running to first
base than when he played the three games before going on injured list for
a concussion. Look forward to seeing
both of them.

Carlos Santana made his first start
at first base Tuesday night after
being traded to Mariners Monday.
He didn't get a hit though had a walk.
He did play good first base with his
defense.

Mariners play afternoon game
Wednesday. Chris Flexen will start
for the Mariners. Pitching like he
has in his last several starts the
Mariners have a good shot at winning.
See how the offense works. Go M's.

Mariners Lose At Home

The Mariners continue having
trouble winning at home after
having successful road trips.
It is odd since they were doing
well at home and not so good
on the road at beginning of the
season.

Final Baltimore 9 Seattle 2

Takeaways: George Kirby had
trouble lasting only four innings.
He gave up two home runs in
both the third and fourth innings.
In total gave up seven runs.

Penn Murfee and Tommy Milone
each gave up a run. Murfee went
two innings and Milone there.
This means  the Mariners will have
most of the bullpen available  Tuesday
if needed.

Tyler Wells the Orioles pitched well
giving up one hit and a run in five
innings. Cal Raleigh hit a home run
in the fifth inning. Have no reason
why Wells didn't go longer.

Offense: Besides Raleigh home run the other two hits were by Julio Rodriguez
and Eugenio Suarez who drove in the
second run with a double. Actually Julio ended up scoring. It took place in the sixth inning.

Reinforcement: the Mariners Monday
made a trade picking up former Mariner Carlos Santana from the
Kansas City Royals for two minor
league pitchers. Santana will play
first base while France is out and
then dh. He play first when France
needs a day off. Not sure happens
when Kyle Lewis and or Mitch Haniger
return but come to that bridge when
it happens. Santana certainly help
the Mariners offense.

Santana came the first time when the
Mariners traded for JP Crawford.
Speaking of Crawford he was suspended five games for Sunday's
brawl. Jesse Winker got seven and
Julio Rodriguez two. Not sure why
Julio who said he was trying to break
things up. All three are appealing
their suspensions.

Angel's manager Phil Nevin was
suspended ten games. Four Angel
coaches got suspended to but not
sure for how long. Nevin can't appeal
since managers are not part of the
collective bargaining agreement. He
should get more games in my opinion.

Robbie Ray goes Tuesday night. The
way he has pitched hopefully means
the Mariners will win. We will see.
Go.M's.

Mariners Lose Final Game of Series

I am sure most everyone have heard
about the bench brawl in the second
inning of the Mariners  loss to the
Angels  Sunday afternoon. The final
Angels 2 Mariners  1

Takeaways: Jesse Winker  was hit by
a pitch in the second inning by opener
starter Wentz who ended up being tossed
from the game as well as Angels  manager
Phil Nevin.

Things would have been OK since Winker
was heading  to  first base, however,  third
baseman Anthony Rendon said something
toward Winker who ended up going toward
the Angels bench. Rendon who is on the
injured list was on the Angels bench. In
my opinion major league  baseball  should
not allow someone  who  is on the injured
list to be in the dugout.

The Angels had two other players kicked out
of the game as well  as Winker the Mariners
lossed Julio Rodriguez and JP Crawford as well.
Manager Scott Servais  was ejected to.

We should  expect some heavy fines coming
down from major league  baseball along with
suspensions. Phil Nevin said in his post game
comments that is just baseball and tensions
got headed.  If this were the case  why did Wentz
start the game and Suarez the original  named
starter came in after Wentz was tossed.
Fortunately  no players were injured.

The Mariners scored their only run in the sixth
inning when Abraham Toro  hit a home run.  Toro
didn't start the game but came in for JP Crawford
when he was ejected. Toro played second base
and Dylan Moore  moved to  shortstop. Adam Frazier
came in for Winkler and  Taylor Trammell for Julio.
The Angels  had no starting position players tossed
from the game as the Mariners had three.

The Angels  scored their two runs in the seventh inning.
Mariners  starter Marco Gonzales pitched well  going
into seventh  inning recorded the loss.

The Mariners  now come home to  play  the  Baltimore
Orioles for three games  followed by four with the Oakland
A's. We will  have to see what Mariner players will be available.
😊😊😊

Mariners Continue Streak

The Seattle Mariners won again
Saturday night beating the Angels
once again on the road 5-3.

Takeaways: The Mariners once
again walked Mike Trout this time
in the 9th inning. Not in easy task
as Ohtani came up as the winning
run. Ohtani hit a massive home run
in the third inning. Erik Swanson
was able to get Ohtani out on high
inside pitch to pop out to right field.

The Mariners scored first with Julio Rodriguez hitting a home run in the first inning. The Angels scored a
run in the 4th inning after Ohtani's
in the 3rd.

The Mariners scored three more runs
in the sixth inning primarily because
of an error. Final run was in the seventh.

Cal Raleigh had a good game having
three hits including two doubles
however the Mariners couldn't cash
in. It is nice to see how well Raleigh
is at the plate as well as behind it.

Logan Gilbert had another good
night of pitching giving up three
runs in five and two-thirds innings.
Two runs were by homers.

The bullpen did a fine job once
again. It seems the Mariners have
a bullpen again they can count
on. Penn Murfee who has been
outstanding since being called
out was able to get the final out
of the sixth inning.

Lefty Borucki who pitched Friday
night pitched the seventh inning
giving up just one hit. He has been
a pleasant surprise so far. For the
Toronto Blue Jays he was a starter
But the Mariners have been able
to count on him being the primary
lefty out of the bullpen. The Mariners
have veteran Tommy Milone to come
out of the bullpen as a lefty too.
Most likely see him pitch Sunday if
needed.

Diego Castillo who has pitched well
as of late pitched the eighth before
Swanson in the 9th. Interesting how
the Mariners use Castillo. In the
same manner as Sewald we can see
him any inning between seven and
nine depending where the lineup is
for the opposing team.

Now we see whether the Mariners
sweep the Angels and the road trip
on Sunday. Whatever the case the
Mariners will take at least five of six.
The Mariners currently in third
place in the division however staying
there will depend whether they win
Sunday or not.

In football the story is the Seahawks
are still interested in quarterback
Baker Mayfield. A story won't end for
now. You could say the media has
to write about something. Keep you
up to date if he does come to Seattle.

Mariners Win 4th Straight

The Seattle Mariners beat the Angels
in Anaheim in the opening game of the
series in Anaheim on Friday night 4-3.

Takeaways

Servais finally did something smart
in regards to Trout walking him in the
8th inning. Trout was involved in all
three runs scored in the game. Julio
Rodriguez missed judged a play that
allowed Trout to have a triple in the
4th inning where he scored the first
Angel run in the Angel making the score 3-1. The Mariners scored a run thankfully in the top of the sixth since
Trout hit a two run homer in the bottom
of the inning.

Neither teams scored a run in the final
three innings. Jesse Winker and Eugenio Suarez are starting to get hot.
Each had three hits including a double.
Winker scored a run and so did Suarez
along with a RBI. Hopefully we see this
continue the rest of the series at least.

Pitching Chris Flexen went five innings
plus giving up all three runs. Lefty Ryan
Borucki pitched an inning coming in for Flexen without giving up a hit.

Erik Swanson who has had a good
season didn't have one of his better
outings getting only one while surrendering  no runs. Andre Munoz
came in and was able to get out of the
inning with a double play. Munoz pitched the 8th inning. Most likely
won't pitch the rest of the series.
Paul Sewald recorded the save in
the 9th. It was 6th save of season
for Sewald.

News is Ty France goes on the
injury list. Hopefully rest will
help and he will be back after
ten days. Dylan Moore will probably
start most of the games at first
with France out. Not sure who
takes France roster spot yet. The
Mariners do have a spot on the
40 most opened. Evan White is
rehabbing again with Tacoma but
probably won't be him.

Mariners Sweep Series

The Mariners didn't look like
they were going to sweep the
series on Thursday afternoon
as the A's were pitching a no-
hitter going into the eighth
inning.

The Mariners had two hits in the
eighth inning by Adam Frazier
and Luis Torrens. The only two
the Mariners had on the day though
scored two in.the 9th to win.

Takeaways: When you are a bad
team you find a way to lose even
giving up two hits in the eighth
inning and leading 1-0 going into
the 9th. Zach Jackson A's reliever
walked two batter. He did get two
outs while striking out one. Also
walked  two batters. AJ Puk came
in walking two as well.  Dylan Moore
scored the tying run when Puk
threw a wild pitch. Again he threw
another wild pitch to score Jess
Winker to win the ballgame  as well.

Ty France was injured in the 5th
inning when Abraham Toro threw
a throw from the third base. France
was off the base and collided with
the runner. Dylan Moore had to replace
him in the game. Right now don't
know how much time France will be
out. Hopefully it won't be long.

Pitching: Robbie Ray who pitched
well in his last three outings did
another job again for the Mariners
giving up the one run in the first
inning. Despite the opposing
pitcher Frankie Montes throwing
the no-hitter for seven innings.
Ray gave up four hits while walking
two and striking out six. The Mariners
now have 21 straight games where
they have given up three runs or less.
The Mariners just have to have their
offense hit more consistently.

The Mariners now go to Anaheim
to take on the Angels. Last week
the Angels beat the Mariners four
out of five games in Seattle primarily
because of Mike Trout's five home
runs. The Mariners hope to silence
Trout and the Angels this weekend.
Next week the Mariners take on the
Baltimore Orioles and Oakland A's
at home. Should have more success.
Go M's.

Mariners Shut Out A's

For the second game in a row
the Seattle Mariners beat the
Oakland A's on the road 9-0.

Takeaways: the Mariners offense
for the second game scored a lot
of runs against the A's after having
a poor home stand including losing
four out of five to the LA Angels.

The Mariners scored a run each in the first three innings including a home
run by Cal Raleigh in the second.
It was Raleigh's ninth home run of the season and 11th of his career. The
Mariners have won every game that
Raleigh has homered in. Quite a feat
right?

Jesse Winker is starting to heat up
hitting a home run in two straight
games. He had a two-run shot where
the Mariners scored five runs in the
fifth inning. The Mariners scored
final run in the seventh.

Pitching: George Kirby went six
innings giving up five hits, one
walk and six strikeouts. Kirby
certainly looks like the real thing
in his first season in the majors
He and Logan Gilbert feel to be
at the top of the rotation for many
years ahead.

Another pitcher the Mariners hope
to join the rotation in Emerson
Hancock who the Mariners drafted
in the first round in 2020. Hancock
started the season injured however
has made seven starts at double-A
Arkansas. He has a 1-2 record but
has an era of 2.10. He has struck
out 23 batters in 25 and 2/3 innings
while walking seven. Hancock
maybe in the rotation at the beginning
of next year or depending how the
Mariners are doing having a shot
in September.

The major league draft takes place
in late July.  See if the Mariners
pick another pitcher in the first
round. Last year they drafted Harry
Ford a high school catcher. Right
now he is playing in low A Modesto.
There isn't any certainty he will
stay at catcher. The Mariners don't
have a lot of quality depth at catcher
in the .minors. See how things
shake out. Go M's.

Mariners End Losing Streak

The Seattle Mariners ended their
three game losing streak on Tuesday
Night. Of course, had to be on the
road and fifth team in the West
division the Oakland A's.

Final Score Mariners 8 A's 2

Takeaways:

The bats came alive. Actually didn't
happen until the seventh inning. The Mariners did score a run on a home
run by Taylor Trammel in the third
inning and another in the sixth. At
that point the A's still had a chance.

In the seventh inning the Mariners
had their big bats hit homers. Julio Rodriguez had a two- run homer
followed by solo home runs by Jesse
Winker and Eugenio Suarez. They scored another run to make it five
runs and a 7-0 lead.

The bottom of the seventh A's Nick
Allen hit a two-run homer. In all
the A's had seven hits.

The Mariners scored their final run
in the 9th inning. Ty France and Julio
Rodriguez had three hits on the night.

Pitching:  Marco Gonzales went seven
innings giving up the two runs in the
seventh. The seven hits in this game
is the most he has given up in the
month of June. Marco has an era of
2.88 in June despite having a 1-2
record for the month.

Next up:  George Kirby vs Paul Blackburn

Update on Jarred Kelenic at Tacoma.
In 26 games Kelenic is batting .271
with six home runs and 15 RBIs.
His batting average is solid though
he is striking out more than once
a game. It is a blessing he isn't
hitting for a better average or the
Mariners would be tempted to
bring him back to soon. I expect
Kelenic will be in Tacoma until
at least the all-star break unless
an injury happens to an outfielder.
Go M's.

Mariners Need To Turn Things Around

Going into the last home stand
Scott Servais  message was to
win series which was a good
idea but didn't  happen.

Now the Mariners  need to do
more than win series  they need
at least  one  sweep.  Starting
with the struggling and under
maned Oakland  A's  would be
good. Taking all three games
and then to Anaheim and win
the series against the Angels.
This put a good  dent into
the Mariners  being down ten
games right now.

The all-star break will be here
so if the Mariners  can be down
four or five games under five
hundred at that point well  help.
Not only help them in the race
but to keep us fans interested.

On Monday's  day off the Mariners
designated  both Sergio Romo and
Roenis Elias for assignment. Activated
right handed  reliever Ken Giles. Also,
they brought up  infielder Kevin Pablo
from  Tacoma. I am  sure Pablo won't
make a big difference  to the offense.
Maybe they can give Abraham Toro a
break.  Go M's.

Mariners Shut Out Again

For the second game in a row the
Seattle Mariners were shut out
out by the LA Angels 4-0.

Takeaways

Pitching: Logan Gilbert again
pitched well giving up two runs
on four hits in six innings. The only
blemish was giving up the fifth
home run to Mike Trout in the series
a two-run shot. Still wonder why pitch
to Trout especially after two home runs in the series opener. Trout now has 33
home runs in his career in Seattle.

The relief pitchers gave a run in each
the seventh and eighth inning. There is
a good chance Ken Giles will be activated. Who is sent down or released will be interesting.

Matt Festa was sent down as Tommy Milone wasvbrought up on Saturday for the double header. Also Justus Sheffield wasbbrought up as an extra arm. Both pitched in the second game. Sheffield was sent back down to Tacoma on Sunday.

Offense which was terrible in the series
except game two when Robbie Ray
pitched well. The Mariners scored
eight runs in that game. Only scored
three runs total in the other four games.

The Mariners now will have to figure
out what do about the offense. Fortunately the Mariners have Monday
off before facing the A's for three
games in Oakland and three more
against the Angels in Anaheim.
Going on the road might be a good
thing. The Mariners were 3-8 in
the eleven games in home stand.

We will see what Dipoto and Servais
can figure out in this six games.
The Mariners are now 29-39 and
back now in fourth place three games
behind the Texas Rangers. What
a disappointing series against the
Angels.

Changes For Mariners Need to Happen

The Seattle  Mariners  lost  both games
of the doubleheader to the LA Angels
Saturday 4 -2 and 3-0. Changes need
to happen.

My opinion giving up a home run to
Mike Trout in both games is inexcusable.
That is four  home runs in the series
and to a player that has hit more home
runs on the Mariners  than any other
team in his career.

Had the Mariners  not given up most of
those home runs they would be ahead
of the Angels  in  the series or at least
split despite  the  poor offense except
in the Friday  night game. Even though
Trout hit those home runs the Mariners
pitching has been good  enough to win.

Whether the answer  is to replace manager
Scott Servais  or other changes something
has to be done. Outside the  top of the
lineup the hitting  has been terrible  to say the
least. At least Cal Raleigh has come on his
hitting but each game they put in Abraham
Toro and Dylan  Moore  more often than
not. At least  more plays defense. Luis
Torrens hasn't  been  good for the most
part.

Saturday Julio Rodriguez was put into
the leadoff spot but it didn't  make any
difference at all. I know Jerry Dipoto and
Scott Servais are friends but something
has to be done. To lose to a team three
out of four is bad. The Mariners won six
out of nine on the road then comes home
and loses three series  doesn't make sense.
Changes have to  happen.  Go M's.

Saturday, June 18, 2022

Ray and Mariners Beat Angels

The Seattle Mariners beat the
Angels Friday night 8-1 to even
the series 1-1.

Takeaways: Robbie Ray for the
second outing in a row looked
like the Cy Young winner they
signed in the off-season.

Ray was pitching a no-hitter
into the seventh inning when
he gave up an infield hit. In
the eighth inning Ray gave up
a leadoff triple followed by a
double giving up the Angels
only run.

Penn Murfee who had a bad
outing his last time came in
and shut the door. Roenis Elias
pitched the 9th giving up one hit.

The pitching of Ray, Murfee and
Elias saves the Mariners for
Saturday when the two teams
play a day-night doubleheader.
Logan Gilbert starts the day
game but not known yet who
will go in the night game.

In the hitting department the single
run in innings one thru three then
four more in the fourth inning. The
final run took place in the sixth.

The Mariners were led in hitting by
Julio Rodriguez who had three hits
driving in a run. Ty France had two
hits including a double driving in
three runs. Cal Raleigh had two
hits with a home run in the second
inning.

The Mariners had Justin Upton who
was recalled from Tacoma playing
in left field. Upton had no hits.
Winker was at dh. The Mariners
sent Sam Haggerty down to Tacoma.

Mariners Lose Another Series Opener

After winning three series on the
road the Mariners have lost three
series openers at home. The
Mariners are 2-5 on this current
home trip with four remaining with
the LA Angels.

This is the first time this season to
be losing at home after having a successful road trip but the Mariners
have done so in other seasons before.

The LA Angels beat the Mariners Thursday night 4-1.

Takeaways: The Mariners allowed two
two-run homer to Mike Trout. Why they allow Trout to see a good pitch does
not make sense to me. His highest
batting average and home runs in his
career is against the Mariners.
Everyone knows the meaning of insanity and the Mariners follow it
to the tea.

The Mariners again had little offense.
Even the games they won they haven't
scored a lot o runs.

Final: Angels 4 Mariners 1

The Mariners #21 prospect Bryce Milker is having an outstanding season at Everett. A fourth round pick by the Mariners last year has 75 strike outs
in 61 innings.His era is 1.76. Though
starting at Everett he likely will end
up in the Mariners bullpen. Right now
of the Mariners prospects 21 thru 30
Miller looks like the best shot to be in
a Mariners uniform.

The major league draft will take place
July 17-29. Let you know how the
Mariners will do especially early on.
Most likely the Mariners top ten picks will make it into the top 30 prospect
list while those listed this year will
drop out.

Twins Take Series

The Minnesota Twins took the
series beating the Mariners
Wednesday afternoon 5-0.
This was the second series
loss in a row after Mariners
won three straight on the row.

Takeaways:  the starting pitching
was great on both sides. Marco Gonzales gave up only three hits
in six and two-thirds innings. Paul Sewald came in with two outs in
the seventh after Marco had a
ground ball to Eugenio Suarez at
third base. The Mariners were not
able to complete a double play.

Scott Servais who came out before
facing the last batter for Marco
took him out for Paul Sewald. The
Twins got a hit with Sewald throwing
a ball high over the plate scoring
a run. Sewald then got the last of
the inning. I am sure Mariner fans
everywhere wondered why take out
Marco. Up to that point he was
pitching great and had the ground
ball he wanted. Servais went with
the numbers as the Twins had a
right handed hitter up. Sometimes
Servais over manages.

Penn Murfee pitched the eighth
giving up two outs but surrendered
three runs. His worst of the season.
Twins got another run in the ninth.
Amazing to think the Twins did not
hit a single home run in the game.

The Mariners had opportunities to
score runs before the Twins. One
inning Taylor Trammel hit a double
then went to third on a throwing
error. This was with no outs but
the next two Mariners popped out
in the infield before the third batter
striking out. Another inning the Mariners had two base runners
on base and could not get them
home either.

The Twins like the Red Sox made
things happen when needed and
the Mariners did not. The middle
game of the series was the only
game they did so. The Mariners
hitters need to score when opportunity
arises. A difference of a team
winning their division while the other
is in fourth place.

Thursday the Mariners start a five
game series against the Angels
in four days. We will see how the
Mariners are made of playing a
team that is struggling and fired
their manager while losing 14
games straight in the midst of it.

Despite losing the series the Mariners
are only a half game behind the Angels. The Mariners win the series
over Angels they will move into
third place.

#20 prospect is infielder Michael
Arroyo. The Mariners signed him
during early 2022. Only seventeen
and playing in the Dominican
Summer league. Only six games in
so another international signing
keep an eye on. If one of these
recent signings can be another
Julio Rodriguez in a few years
be good for the Mariners..

The  Mariners have six international
players signed in the top 20
of their prospects. Not  a bad deal
at all.

Mariners Shut Out Twins

In the middle game of series
on Tuesday night the Mariners
beat the Twins 5-0.

Takeaways:

Logan Gilbert went six innings
giving up four hits.Gilbert walked
one while striking out six. Certainly
looks like the ace of the Mariners.
Erik Swanson, Diego Castillo and
Matt Festa each pitched an inning
without giving up a hit. Festa walked
a batter but got out on a double
play.

The offense only had six hits but
two were home runs with a runner
on base. The first home run was
in the fourth inning when Eugenio Suarez hit a towering home run
to left field. In the fifth inning Ty
France hit the other. Sam Haggerty
drove in Dylan Moore in the 7th
inning for insurance.

Dylan Moore originally was going
to play left field giving Jesse Winker
the day off but JP Crawford was
scratched so entered Haggerty
going to left and Moore to shortstop.
Not sure what happened to Crawford.

The Mariners and Twins play an afternoon game which will be
televised on YouTube instead of
Root Sports. We will have to see
who the announcers will be.

Marco Gonzales goes for the Mariners.
Hopefully he will bounce back so
the Mariners can take the series.
Next up the Mariners take on the
LA Angels for the first time on the
season. They play a five game
series with Saturday be a day and
night double header. Have to buy
tickets each seperate for the games.

#19 prospect outfielder Jonatan
Clase . Another youngster who is
only 20 years old. Class is considered
the fastest runner in the Mariners
system so is already stolen 47 bases.
Clase is in this third season in the
Mariners farm system. This year
he is playing at low level A Modesto.
He is hitting a descent .265 with six
home runs and has 23 stolen bases.
Clase is striking out a lot with 67 in
45 games. If he can cut down on
strike outs should have a good career.

Next time we will look at #20 prospect. We wouldn't go beyond except to see
who from 21 thru 30 are doing well.

Mariners Lose In Opening Game of Series

It is frustrating since the Mariners
seem to have trouble at home
after coming off of a successful
road trip. It seems that happens
often in the history of the team.

Take always : The offense didn't perform once again having only
six hits and no player had more
than one hit.

Chris Flexen gave up a two run homer
in the first inning then settled down. Flexen ended up going five innings
and not giving up another run. The Mariner were down 2-1 when he left
the game.

Penn Murfee who has done an excellent job when coming in pitched
the sixth inning. Sergio Romo who
has done well at times but not so
well at others gave up a run in the
seventh inning. Tough when the
offense isn't going well that the
bullpen surrenders runs late in
the game.

The Mariners scored their second run and last of the game in the bottom
of the seventh to make it interesting
anyway. Taylor Trammel had the homer.

Unlike last year the bullpen is giving
up runs late in the game. As I have
said in several weeks the Mariners
need to pick up another reliever.
Erik Swanson returned and pitched
in the last two games of the Boston
series. He might be available in
Tuesday night's game.

Ken Giles might be activated soon
now doing rehab assignment. He
should give a boost to the bullpen.
Adding another reliever be good
to. Both Paul Sewald and Diego
Castillo should be available.

Tuesday starter: Logan Gilbert

#17 prospect: right handed pitcher
Michael Morales drafted last year
in the third round. Only 19 years old,
however, the Mariners feel he is
advanced for his age. Currently at
low level A ball with Modesto.
Morales doesn't have an impressive
era of 5.20 but is averaging one strike
out per inning and a walk every three
innings. Right now Morales is a starter
but would not be surprised if the
Mariners make him a reliever some day. Penn Murfee was a starter originally in the Mariners farm system
and Matt Brash is in Tacoma right
now. What the Mariners starting rotation is like now and for future
Morales making to majors might
be the bullpen.

Mariners Shutout Series Final

Sunday afternoon the Mariners were
shut out out by the Boston Red Sox
2-0. The Mariners had only one hit
by catcher Luis Torrens.

Robbie Ray had his best outing of
the season going seven innings
giving up no runs on three hits.
Only walked one hitter and struck
out four which was his least strike
outs on the season. If Ray can
pitch this way the rest of the season
the Mariners will benefit with more
wins.

Ray threw a lot of two-seam fastballs
along with sinker. Until he got into
trouble in his last outing he hadn't
thrown a two-seam fastball in six years. His success last year was the
four-seam fastball which he has had
trouble with this year. If Ray can mix
his four-seam along with two-seam
fastball and the sinker the opposition
will have trouble.

The Red Sox scored their two runs
in the eighth inning off reliever Paul
Sewald. He got the first two batters
out then hit the Red Sox leadoff
hitter then the dsngerous Rafael
Devers hit his 14th home run of
season. Devers made an outstanding
play in the bottom of the eighth.
Also right fielder made Rob Refsnyder
made an outstanding catch to rob
the Mariners of a double.

Now the Mariners take on the Minnesota Twins in a three game series.  Chris Flexen will open the
series. How the Mariners do against
the Twins will tell us more of an idea
how good or not they are.

#17 prospect is right handed hitting
outfielder George Felix. He was signed receiving the most money in international player for Mariners in
2019. He is only 19. Currently playing
in center field. Last year George hit
.277 in his first professional season
in Dominican Summer League. This
year he is in Arizona rookie league.
Only played four games so far.
See where he is at in July.

Mariners Take Second Game Win Over Sox

For most of Saturday night game the Mariners
allowed the Boston Red Sox do their thing as
they had done in the previous five games.

The Mariners had their opportunities early on
in the game though did score two runs in the
first inning right after Boston scored three.
Second inning Julio Rodriguez had a two-run
The Sox scored two more in the fifth to take
over the lead once again.  The Mariners
tied in the seventh when Abraham Toro
drove in a run with a hit.

The Red Sox hit a home run off of Paul
Sewald in the top of the 9th. It looked
doom with Toro coming up again with
two outs. JP Crawford was on base when
Toro hit a blooper in dead man's land in
right field to score Crawford to tie the game.

Sam Haggerty pinch run for Suarez. Dylan
Moore was up to bat. He hadn't delivered
much this year in key situations. The
Mariners had tied so knew the worst
they would go into extra innings, however,
Moore had other ideas. He hit a line drive
far enough away from the center fielder
couldn't catch it though dove for it. Haggerty
scored the winning run.

George Kirby who started the game went
five innings surrendering five runs, however,
only three were earned because of an error
by JP Crawford early on. The bullpen did
a good job. Besides the home run given up
by Sewald in the 9th they only surrendered
only one other hit in four innings. This is
the bullpen the Mariners were hoping for
when the season began.  Ken Giles is
expected to come off injured list while
pitching in the minor leagues right now.
Drew Steckenrider was designated for
assignment. This to make room on the
40-man roster. Another team could pick
him up or he stays in Tacoma.

Final Seattle 7 Boston 6

Prospect #16 Cade Marlowe left hitting
outfielder who won the Ken Griffey Jr.
Award as the best hitter in the Mariners
system last year. This year Marlowe is
struggling at double-A Arkansas where
he is hitting .219.  See how he does
from here. With the depth of outfielders
on the Mariners his best shot is at being
the fourth or fifth outfielder. Would not
be surprised the Mariners end up trading
him.

Next time look at number 17 prospect.

Mariners Lose Another One to Boston

The Seattle Mariners lost another
close one in the open game of
series against the Boston Red Sox
4-3 at home. This is now the 5th
loss without a win against BoSox.

The loss came down to Andre Munoz
who gave up two runs in the 7th
inning. Munoz gave up a solo home
run as well as another run to record
the loss. This has been a struggle
for Munoz and the bullpen as of late.

Marco Gonzales who had been pitching
well as of late struggled in this one going
four and one-thirds innings. Marco had
a hard time even beginning in the first inning.
Fortunately only gave up one run in
the first and a home run to JD Martinez
in the third. Marco ended up walking
six batters well as striking out four.
Not Marco type of outing. Hope for
him to recover next time.

Penn Murfee came in the fifth inning
to record the final two outs. Penn
has done a fine job since coming
up from Tacoma. Penn has an era
of 0.87. Eriq Swanson made his
first appearance after coming off
the injured list. Pitched the sixth
without giving up a hit or walk.

After Munoz the Mariners used
three relievers not giving up a run.
Neither Paul Sewald or Diego
Castillo were used so should be
available on Saturday. George Kirby
is scheduled to start. Won't be an
easy one against BoSox offense
but hopefully the Mariners find a
way to win.

Jesse Winker hit his 4th home run
of the season with a runner on base
to tie the game in the 5th inning.
Hopefully Winker will get hot. Cal
Raleigh had a hit to drive in the
3rd run in the 8th. Too bad the
Mariners were unable to score
another run or two.

#15 Mariners prospect is left-handed
hitting third baseman Starlin Aguilar.
He is only 18 years old so won't see
him for a few years. Right now playing
in the rookie team in Arizona. Starlin
has some power in his bat. Has gotten
off to a hot start though only played
in four games see how he does as the
summer goes along. Go.M's.

Seahawks Mini-camp

This week  the Seahawks  are going
through monitory mini-camp. The
big deal the media  is  talking about
is DK Metcalf.

The reason  the media  is  talking
about Metcalf  he isn't  in camp.
He is going into his final year of
his rookie contract. Of course,
he wants  to  be  paid big money.
The thought is around the $25 million
per year for like six years.

Should the Seahawks  pay Metcalf
that much money since they are
more of a running team or trade
him. How much will  they get in
return?

The Seahawks  have had other
players in same situation  before
sit out so what  is the big deal.
Also, Metcalf  is rehabbing from
surgery in LA.

There really  is  no  big deal however
writers need to sell papers or views
on websites.

I  don't  do a lot of selling this site
but let your friends  know  about if
you like it.

Now that summer  is about here
then camp for the Seahawks,  Huskies
and Cougars  are  here. The question
for all three teams who will be the
starting quarterback.  Probably won't
know almost time of opening game.

Enjoy  your  summer as short as it is.
Football is almost here. 😊😊😊

Mariners Take Series

The Seattle  Mariners  hadn't one a
series in Houston  for almost four
years. The last time  beating the
Astros  on the road was in September
of 2018.

Logan Gilbert  had another  quality
start going six and giving up three
runs on Wednesday  night. Gilbert
didn't  give up a home run either.

The Astros scored their runs  in the
second and fourth innings.  The
Mariners  pitchers blank them the
rest of the way. After Gilbert went
six innings, Andre Munoz, Paul
Sewald and Diego Castillo  each
Went an inning. Munoz was the only
one to give up a hit. Castillo  struck
out the side in the 9th inning.

On this road trip Castillo  gave up
only one hit facing the Orioles and
Rangers once each and Astros twice.
We hope Castillo can still go this way
for several weeks.  The Mariners won
all three series going 6-3 on this road
trip. Manager Scott Servais said can
gain ground by winning series.

The Mariners  are now 26-31 a half
game behind Rangers and one game
being the Angels.  The Mariners  take
On the Red Sox at home starting Friday.
The Mariners were swept recently in
Boston but hope to redeem themselves
this weekend.  I am sure be big crowds
all weekend.

Mariners #14 prospect  is righthand
pitcher Taylor Dollard a fourth round
in 2020 draft by the Mariners.  Dollard
is pitching this year at Arkansas after
splitting time first at low A Modesto
and finishing Everett.  Dollard has started
ten games for the Travelers.  Has a 3-2
record going 47 1/3 innings. So keeping
his pitch count down however has an era
of 0.95 with ten walks and 48 strike outs.
See if he is in the plans for the  Mariners
next  season.

Flexen Loses Close Game For Mariners

Chris Flexen has had his up and
downs this season, however, on
Tuesday night he had one of his
best games of the season against
the Astros. Flexen was facing Justin
Verlander so had to be at his best.

Flexen ended up going six and two-
third innings giving up two runs.
His only mistake really was in the
4th inning when he gave up a two
run homer to Yordan Alvarez. This
was after the Mariners had scored
a run in the top of the fourth.

There no scoring until the 8th inning.
The Mariners had the opportunity to
score with the bases loaded. Former
Mariners reliever Rafael Montero was
struggling walking three batters.
Abraham Toro was up. He had one
swing that went just foul along the
first base line. Toro wasn't able to
deliver hitting into a double play to
end the inning. Toro is in a two for
twenty-four slump. Not sure why
Toro didn't try hitting the ball in the
air to get at least one run I don't
understand. A sacrifice fly at least
would have tied the game and may
have done even more.

Make things worse the Mariners
brought in newcomer lefty Ryan
Borucki who they acquired from
Toronto recently. Being down by
a single run bringing in one of their
top four relievers should have been
in order. Borucki ended giving up
two runs and only getting one out.
Penn Murfee came in to get the
final two outs. Why he didn't start
the inning makes me shake my
head. Final score Astros 4 Mariners 1.

The Mariners number 13 prospect
is outfielder Lazaro Montes 17 years
old the Mariners signed in January.
Montes is out of Cuba and ranked
number eight among the international
players coming out this year. He
currently is playing in the Dominican
Summer League. For now he is playing
center field but could move to left or
right field depending on his progress.
Only has played in two games so
we will see how he does later. Most
likely Montes will be in Dominican
League for two years before coming
to USA and play in single A ball. Hope
to see him in a  mariners uniform
some day.

Mariners Win Wild Game

Robbie Ray had another inning
where he didn't pitch well.The
Mariners scored a run in the
first inning then Jose Altuve
had a home run to tie. In the
second inning catcher Cal Raleigh
had a three run homer, however ,
Ray gave up the same in the inning.
Sad at that point since it felt like
the Mariners had their opportunity.
Of course, we know how they have
done in Houston.

Ray by the way has given up at
least three runs in an inning in
six of his twelve starts. As you
know not acceptable. Has to go
back to drawing board. Didn't
think it would happen but did
go five innings.

Cal Raleigh drove in the fifth
run in the 5th run in the fourth
inning giving the Mariners a
5-4. This aloud Ray to record
the win. Raleigh has been five
for 17 in June. Sounds like he
has figured things out. We will
have to see.

The game was silent for the
most part until the 9th inning.
Ty France was hit by a pitch.
Someone on the Astros said
something so Mariners manager
Scott Servais came out of the
dugout followed by Jesse Winker
and the rest of the players. Not
sure but think Servais was thrown
out of the game. I don't think
I have ever seen a manager come
out first when the bench is cleared.

After every was cleared Julio
Rodriguez hit a home run to
make it 7-4 Mariners which was
the final score. It wasn't the end
though the Astros pitcher threw
at Eugenio Suarez head and was
tossed from the game along
with manager Dusty Baker. What a
game. Hope this puts the Mariners
on a good long winning streak.
Go M's.

#12 prospect for the Seattle Mariners
is 20 year old age Milkar Perez a third
baseman. He currently is rated the
Mariners top third base prospect. Now
in this third year in the Mariners
system Milkar hasn't started off well
this season. He doesn't have much
power expected for a third baseman.
He has no home runs on the season
so far. Though hit well his previous
two years Milkar has gotten off to
a rough start.  He is hitting .146
and striking out more than once a game.
See how does the rest of the way.
Milkar may not be listed as one of
the top prospects if he continues.
The Mariners do have one other
third baseman listed in the top 30.
Noelvi Marte the Mariners top
prospect playing shortstop could
end up moving to third base. The
time being they have Eugenio Suarez
and Abraham Toro playing third.
Have to see the long term plans at
this position.

Mariners Take Series

It wasn't easy but the Seattle
Mariners beat the Texas Rangers
6-5 to take the series for the third
straight. We will see whether they
can do the same fate starting
Monday night in Houston against
the Astros. The Astros are a team
the Mariners have struggled on
the road against.

George Kirby started and went
six innings giving up two home runs
in the 2nd and 3rd. The only two runs
he gave.  Eugenio Suarez who is hot
right had a home run in the 4th and
another run scored by the Mariners
in the 5th to tie it.

The game was tied until Andre Munoz
gave a home run in the 7th and in
8th Sergio Romo a two run homer
in the 8th. Romo has struggled since
coming off the injured list recently.
Wonder how long that last.

Fortunately the Mariners tied in
the 9th scoring three runs including
a home run by Ty France. The
Mariners won the game in the
10th. Abraham Toro began the
inning at second. He moved to
third base on infield out. Toro
scored the winning run a wild pitch
and Adam Frazier reached first
on ball four. Paul Sewald was able
to get the save and three outs on
six  pitches. Diego Castillo receive
the win in the 9th giving up one
hit but striking out all three outs.

Suarez and Dylan Moore each
had three hits. Sam Haggerty
who started in left and Julio
Rodriguez each had two hits.

Robbie Ray struggling his
last six outings will open the
series against the Astros. It
won't be easy but hoping for
Ray to turn things around. Go M's.

Mariners Lose One Run Game

For the most part Marco Gonzales  pitched
a good  game. Marco ended up going seven
innings,  however,  gave up  a three-run homer
in the fourth inning. I  am  tired of the Mariners
starters  giving up home runs especially  Marco.
Had Marco  given  up a solo home run  the
Mariners  would have won.

The Mariners  offense had opportunities  but the
only score the Mariners  had was a two-run  homer
by Jesse Winker  in the fifth inning just after the
home run  Texas had against Marco. Cal Raleigh
had a hit before  Winker's  home run.  It is nice
Raleigh is starting  to  hit  along with Winker.
Both  have some power.

Again Servais  couldn't  help  himself  using
Dylan Moore  to pinch hit for Trammell. Does
he not realize most of the time  it doesn't work.
Again Mike Ford pinch hit for Moore late in
the game. After the game the Mariners  dfa
Ford. I can't  wait for Justin Upton  to be recalled
if the Mariners  have to use a right handed bat to
pinch hit  for Trammell.

The Mariners  picked up a lefty after the
game from  the Toronto Blue Jays  for a  minor
league infielder. The lefty has been a starter it
looks like he will  come out of the bullpen. I
hope he is the primary lefty used out of the
bullpen since Anthony Misiewicz has been
inconsistent  the last year. We will  tell you
who the lefty from Toronto later.

Now we hope another good outing for George
Kirby tomorrow. It would be  nice for the Mariners
to win another series. Go M's.

Suarez Wins Friday Night Game

Eugenio Suarez isn't exactly Kyle
Seager in the field though he has
done a solid job. I am sure better
than we expected.

Suarez made a throwing error in
the sixth inning allowing the Texas
Rangers tie the game. It cost Logan Gilbert the opportunity to record
the victory. Suarez made up for it
by hitting a go ahead and winning
two run homer in the ninth inning.

Now Suarez leads the Mariners in home runs with ten. Oh by the way
Gilbert went six innings with only
only one earned run with the other
being the error on Suarez. The Rangers took the lead 3-2 in the seventh before
Suarez winning home run making the
final 4-3.

Cal Raleigh hit a home run in the fifth
inning giving the Mariners their second
run at the time. Raleigh had two of the
Mariners five hits. I hope this means
he has figured out major league pitching. Having Raleigh behind the
plate more often would be nice if
his hitting continues as it has recently.

Taylor Trammel had a hit in the game
as well. I recommend the Mariners not
pinch hitting for him against lefties. If they want to start Dylan Moore against
lefties fine so that way he is available
to pinch hut later in the game fine but
not pinch hitting for him. The bench
is weak so when he doesn't start it
makes better having Trammel off
the bench.

Look recently at the Mariners top ten prospects. Now each day write about
the Mariners look at one of the add
prospects. So today number 11 prospect is Zach DeLoach drafted in
the second round by the Mariners in
2020. Hard to know when he makes
the majors however with the depth
of outfielders likely be fourth outfielder
on the Mariners. The Mariners could
end up trading as well.

DeLoach is currently playing at double
A Arkansas. He is in his second season
in the Mariners system. DeLoach is
currently hitting .258 with Arkansas
along with three home runs and 24
runs batted in. He is a left handed bat
and can play all three outfield position.
Get back to him later to see improvement.  Go M's.

Mariners Win Series In Extra Inning

The Seattle Mariners didn't make
it easy on themselves to win the
final game of series against the
Orioles on Thursday Night.

Mariners won 7-6 in ten innings. Abraham Toro hit a triple to drive in the winning run. Diego Castillo was able
to win going two innings. The bullpen had trouble before Castillo allowing
the Orioles come back from a three run
deficit. Time for Dipoto make a move
to add a reliever.

I am not sure why Scott Servais uses
a pinch hitter at the bottom of the
order when a lefty pitcher comes in.
Taylor Trammel was pinch hit by
Dylan Moore. Trammel is hitting
much higher than Moore. Next time
around Mike Ford pinch hit for Moore.
He isn't a better than Moore. Though
Trammel has been with the team a
short time his batting average is
twice as high as Moore and Ford.
I wouldn't mind pinch hitting for
Trammel if the batter had a higher
average. The Mariners need to
acquire another bat too.

Now they go to Texas in a three
game series against the Rangers.
Be nice to take at least two out of
three again. Go.M's.

Ray Continues Have Trouble In One Inning

The Seattle Mariners lost the middle game of
the series on Wednesday to the Baltimore Orioles
9-2, The trouble is Robbie Ray had another game
where he has one bad inning. This time it was the
second inning when he gave up a three-run homer.
In total he gave up four runs in five innings. The
Mariners did have opportunity to still win but again
had issues with the bullpen.

In regards to Robbie Ray this was the sixth game
in a row that he has  given up a home run in. Roots
Sports baseball  analyst Bill Krueger I have heard
say at least twice that Ray right now is being
predictable and throwing too hard. He can still
get batters out by slowing down. Though he gave
up the home run early most of his trouble has been
when the other teams hitters come up the second
or third time because they have figured him out.
Hopefully knows what is going on and changes
things.

Now the bullpen another trouble for the Mariners.
Often the trouble has been the first pitcher out of
the bullpen. If the Mariners starters can get through
at least six or seven innings with a lead than  the
relievers have been good for the most part. The
trouble has been if they are behind even a run
or two like in this one.

This time it was Sergio Romo who came  in the
sixth inning in relief of Ray. He got two outs
before exiting the game but gave up five runs
with three home runs. You would have thought
the Mariners would have taken him out after the
second home though likely Penn Murfee  who
came in for  him wasn't warmed up as of yet.
A good reason to have two pitchers warmed up
at the beginning of the inning but probably
doesn't happen often.

The Mariners have to do something with their
bullpen. It has been trouble for the last 20 games
or longer. They haven't blown too many leads,
however, still have trouble when being in close
games to be able to keep the team in contention.
Murfee has been the most successful of their
relievers outside of Paul Sewald. They need
to find at least one new reliever.

The Mariners now have  to see they can win
the series with Chris Flexen  on Thursday.
His trouble has been inconsistent along with
not getting a lot of run support. The key is
still to win series though going on a long
winning streak would be nice too. Go M's.
