mark of the season. They are in first
place however the Mariners had games
recently where they have scored three
runs or less.
Offense: C
They have had injuries to Cal Raleigh
and Randy Arozarena along with Brendan Donovan who has been out for more than
a month. We are hoping for his return after
the all star break.
The Mariners have struggled against left
handed pitching. They signed Rob Refsynder
during the off-season to belp in thst area
and he gets an F for that and so the management team for signing him and how he is being used. Looking at his stats going into this season he primarily has played the outfield and not so good in limited time at dh or pinch hitting. The Mariners get a d- for pinch hitting.
Starting rotation a B+
The Mariners have six men who are starting
for them. Luis Castillo has been a disappointment while Emerson Hancock
has been a surprise. He has been the
Mariners top starter at times in the first
half. George Kirby and Logan Gilbert
have been up and down pitching though
the second half look bright for both.
Logan has pitched very well on the
road while Bryan Woo has struggled a
lot on the road. He needs to correct
whatever the issue is on the road.
The Bullpen C
Gabe Speier is the Mariners best teliever
on the season so far. Andre Munoz has had
a poor first half although in his last couple
outings he looks like his old self and we
hope it continues.
The issue with the bullpen is having
seven relievers with four high leverage
and three low leverage. At least one of
the low leverage relievers should be in
triple A. The Mariners need to trade
for another high leverage reliever. We
don't know when Matt Brash will return
and whether he can get back to his old
self. When Brash was placed on the
injured list it look like they panic.
In situations where they had a shot to
win even though behind by a couple
runs they brought in a low leverage
reliever who gave up a couple runs
and any chance to win ou the door.
The high leverage relievers were
given four or five days between
appearances. I have seen in the past
where a reliever hasn't been pitched
for several days have come down
with an injury. The starters have a
routine and I expect relievers do to.
As far as all star selection the two
top for the Mariners are Julio Rodriguez
and Randy Arozarena. A third choice
to throw in second baseman Cole Young.
I hope the Mariners management team
will make some moves soon. Go M's
