Mariner Win Crazy Game

The Mariners had lost four games in
a row and looked like they may be
swept by the Blue Jays however fortune
came their way.

Taylor Trammel who was brought up
after reb assignment had a grand slam
in his first appearance. Cal Raleigh was
another hitting star having two two-run
homers in the game. The second one
allowed the Mariners to win in the 10th
inning. Teoscar Hernandez had a home
run against his old team after Trammel's
home run and before Cal's.

Final: Mariners 10 Blue Jays 8

Marco Gonzales starting for the Mariners
only lasted three innings giving up eight
runs in three innings. This was after Trammel's grand slam.  Only five of the runs earned because of a throwing error
by Sam Haggerty who was playing in
place for Ty France at first base for second
game in a row. France had been struggling
at the plate recently.

Interesting the recall of Taylor Trammel
they put Saturday's starter Easton McGee
was placed on the injured list. It will
be interesting to see who pitches the
next time up. The Mariners having an
off day on Monday the spot could be
skipped or put someone else in there.

The bullpen was marvelous going
seven innings without giving up a
run and allowing for the offense to
comeback.

The Mariners now go to Oakland
with Logan Gilbert starting on
Tuesday.

The Kraken right now leading 2-1
heading into the third period in
the seventh game of the first series
of the playoffs. Have final results
next time.

Good Pitching But Another Loss. Seahawks Draft on Saturday

For the second game on this road
trip the Mariners had a great pitching
performance but they couldn't get
it done offensively.

The Mariners brought up pitcher Easton
McGee from Tacoma to start instead of
Chris Flexen who is now back in bullpen.
McGee pitched a fantastic game not giving
up a hit until two outs in the seventh
inning. Certainly saved their bullpen.

Toronto score a run in the 10th inning
with the bases loaded. Final 1-0

The Mariners had six hits on the day
but the Blue Jays scored having only
three hits. Left fielder Daulton Varsho
had the most important hit of the game.

Julio had to leave the game in the sixth
inning with tightness in his back after
sliding into second base for a steal. I
wonder if Julio will have to go into
the more conventional way.  Manager
Scott Servais doesn't think it is bsd.
Have to see Sunday. The Mariners
do have Monday off too.

The Seahawks on day three drafted
three offensive and three defensive
players. I expect the best available
on their draft board.

First fourth round pick was guard
Anthony Bradford from LS U. Defensive
tackle Cameron Young out of Mississippi
State was the second pick in the fourth
round. They drafted two players from
Michigan.in the fifth round. Defensive
tackle Mike Morris and center Olusegun
Oluwatimi. The sixth round picked
safety Jerrick Reed from New Mexico.
In the final round running back Kenny
McIntosh out of Georgia

The Seahawks drafted two running
backs along with two defensive
tackles and ends. The Seahawks could
have at least three starters or more
out of this draft.

The Washington Huskies had no
players drafted however linebacker
Can Bright signed as a undrafted
college free agent. The Seahawks
have signed quite a few college
fee agents so we will see what
other familiar names come their
ways. Also where other Huskies
end up going.

Kraken Lose Now Game Seven

The Seattle  Kraken  lost Friday  night
in game six so now goes to game
seven at Denver on Sunday.

For some reason the Kraken don't
play as well  at home as on the road.
The final was 4-1. The Kraken  scored
their only goal in the first period.

The Avalanche  scored two in the
second period after one in the first.
Since they well on the road  they  will
final game. It won't be easy.  Thanks
for a good season  even if they lose
on Sunday.

I made mistake  last post about
the third round. They actually had
a pick but traded to  Denver for the
first fourth round pick and a third
pick in next year's draft.

The 4th thru the seventh will begin
Saturday  morning at 9 am pacific
time. GO HAWKS!

Mariners Another Loss Seahawks Two Picks

The Seattle Mariners lost Friday night in
the opening game of the series to the
Toronto Blue Jays 3-2.

The Mariners haven't been able to hit
well in the last three games. The trouble
is they having trouble in close games
as well along with one worst teams in
baseball hitting from the seventh on.

Cal Raleigh was the hitting star driving
in both runs in the second and third
innings. He couldn't find a way to score
late in the game either. The Mariners
only had six hits. Both Julio and Kelenic
each had two hits as well.

Eugenio Suarez sort of had his first
rest of the season dh instead of third
base. Rookie Jose Caballero played
third base.  Ty France has been struggling
as late so he should have a day off in
the field as well.

Luis Castillo didn't pitch well though
giving up two runs in five innings.

The second day of the NFL draft was
the second and third rounds. The
Seahawks drafted two in the second
round. Denver had the Seahawks
third round pick..

The Seahawks have six picks on
Saturday. Two picks in the 4th
and 5th rounds each. One in the
6th and 7th each.

The first second pick Derick Hall is
out of Auburn. He is listed as de/
linebacker which is now known
as edge rushers. Hall could be a
starter or come in often..

The second pick was running back
Zach Charbonbet out of UCLA. You
watch Pac12 football you would be
familiar with him. The Seahawks
will be in.good shape at running
back.with Ken Walker who was
drafted last year in the second
round. Walker will be the starter
however Charbonnet will get
some carries as well. He will
be on special teams as well.
Go Hawks.

Mariners Lose Seahawks Makes Picks

George Kirby  pitched a complete  game
however the Mariners  lost 1-0. Kirby
gave up the one run in the second inning.
The Phillies only got four hits off of Kirby
along  with  a walk. Struck out seven.

I wouldn't  be surprised  if  some year
Kirby  becomes  the  number one starter.
Being the number two or three starter
wouldn't  be bad either. One thing for
sure he is going to  be a star pitcher.

The Mariners  had only three hits.
Tom Murphy  who has not hit well
had two of the hits while Tommy
La Stella  pitch hitting for AJ Pollock
had the other.

The Seahawks  made their picks without
trading. The top pick at 5 was cornerback
Devon Witherspoon from Illinois. He is the
highest picked at cornerback since Pete
Carroll and John  Schneider been in Seattle.
Witherspoon must have been  the number
one player on the board.

At 20 the Seahawks  drafted another player
from the Big Ten  in wide receiver Jaxon
Smith-Njigba from Ohio State.  He was the
first wide receiver taken. Jaxon is considered
a slot receiver so Dk Metcalf and Tyler Lockett
will  still be  on the outside. Picking him
in the first  round means he will be in the lineup
as the third receiver. Something the Seahawks
have been looking since Metcalf.

Second  round will the Seahawks take a defensive
lineman and or an edge rusher.  They could
surprise us with a center or running  back.
Also the Seahawks could go up or down.
They  have a third round  pick on Friday too.
Go Hawks!

Mariners Lose Kraken Win

The Seattle Mariners had a chance to take
two games from the Phillies before Thursday afternoon final game however wasn't meant to be.

Phillies scored two runs in first inning.
The Mariners scored five runs in the second inning. JP Crawford hit a grand
slam home run and Julio followed with
a solo home run. Trouble the Mariners
didn't score another run.

Logan Gilbert started where he may
have on Tuesday went Wednesday.
Logan didn't pitch well going only
five innings. He gave up a single run
in the third and fifth innings for total
of four.

The Mariners still led 5-4 when the bullpen
took over.  The bullpen did a good job
until Justin Topa gave up two runs in the eighth inning for the Phillies take the
lead and win. It was the first time gave up
any runs this season. In.previous nine
games he didn't  give up any runs. I would
take odds anytime.

George Kirby starts Thursday. See whether
the Mariners take the series.

The Kraken beat the  Avalanche 3-2.
Now lead the series 3-2 as well. Take
Kraken were leading in the third period
when Avalanche scored second goal
to make it interesting. The Kraken defense
kept them from scoring anymore goals.
Game six will be in Seattle Friday night.
See whether the series will end without
going back to Denver.

Thursday night the NFL draft will begin
with the first round. The Seahawks have
two picks but we know they could do
anything unexpected. Stay tuned.

Mariners Win Opening Game of Road Trip

The Seattle Mariners beat the opening
game of the nine game road trip
in Philadelphia 5-3 over the Phillies.

Marco Gonzales started Tuesday night
instead of Logan Gilbert. With a day off
the Mariners did have the luxury to start
Marco.  Logan had a few physical issues
so the Mariners decided to start Marco
though Logan could have pitched. With
the day off Monday plus not pitching
Tuesday gives Logan more rest.

Marco pitched well going five innings and
giving up one run in the fifth. Fortunately
the Mariners scored two runs in the top
of the fifth including another home run by
Jarred Kelenic a solo. Jarred had three hits on the night.
In the sixth inning the Mariners scored two more runs on a homer by Teoscar Hernandez. Hopefully he will keep going as the Mariners next series Is at Toronto. The Mariners finish next week traveling all the way to Oakland. The good thing the Mariners do.have next Monday off.

Thursday's game will be a day game
so the Mariners will get into Toronto
at a reasonable hour.

Matt Brash continues to struggle giving
up a run coming in.the sixth inning. Speier
and Topa continue doing well and still
either one has giving up a run since being
recalled from Tacoma. Paul Sewald is
not pitching that well giving up a run himself. The good thing the Mariners were
leading by three heading into the ninth.
He gives up a run occasionally with more
than a one run.lead it is OK.

Kraken Win Even Series

The Seattle  Kraken  Monday night was off to
a good start in the first period scoring two goals.
The Avalanche  came back two of their own in
the second  period.

The third period  which sometimes  been trouble
for the Kraken neither team scored a goal. The
Kraken  need a win desperately  if they really had
a chance to go further  in the playoffs.  Fortunately
they scored in the overtime and the house of the
Kraken  went wild.

Now the series  goes back to Denver. The winner
of gave five will have the edge for sure. The Kraken
are showing  they deserve  to  be in the playoffs  no
matter how things turn out. GO Kraken

Chris Flexen Loses

The Mariners lost to St. Louis Cardinals
7-3 on Sunday. My opinion the Mariners
left Chris Flexen in too long. He didn't
have it at all. He gave two runs in the first
inning and another run in the third inning.
Only reason he didn't give up a run in
the second they were able to get out by
a double play.

The Mariners were able to score three
runs in the second inning. Ty France
drove in two runs and Jarred Kelenic
hit  home run another to left field.

The Mariners should have taken Flexen
out after the third inning instead left
him in where he gave up three more
runs. Last three starts he has given
up 25 runs in 12 and 1/3 innings. Does
he have a chance to start another or
will he be replaced in the rotation. Robbie
Ray isn't expected back until sometime
in May.

The Mariners now head to Philadelphia
to take on the Phillies beginning on
Tuesday. The Phillies start two lefties
so see more of a right handed lineup.
We will see Tom Murphy at catcher
in one of the two games.

At some point the Mariners will need to
add to the bench where there is little
hitting there. A bright spot Kolten Wong
had three hits on Sunday. We hope this
is the beginning of what we expected.
Go M's.

Mariners Win Kraken Lose Saturday Night

The Seattle  Mariners beat St Louis  Cardinals
5-4 Saturday  night. The Mariners  will try
to sweep the Cardinals  Sunday  afternoon.

Luis Castillo  didn't  have his best stuff
going five innings  and giving up three runs.
The Cardinals are used to seeing Luis after
facing him with the Reds.

Teoscar Hernandez  hit a two-run homer
in the sixth inning to tie the game at 3-3.
In the seventh inning Eugenio Suarez  hit
a single to put up a two run lead.

Paul Sewald  gave up a solo home run
but was able  to  record his sixth save
on the season.  Andre Munoz  is expected
to have a rehab assignment with Tacoma
and is expected back early May. Likely
Munoz will close some games on his return.

Sam Haggerty  was activated Saturday and
Cooper Hummel  was sent down to Tacoma.
For the time being  the third catcher  is on hold.

The  Kraken  tried to beat the Avalanche at
home but we not quite good enough losing
6-4. Avalanche  scored three goal to the
Kraken  one in the third period.  Trouble the
Kraken  had a lot of last season giving up
multiple  scores in the third period.

The Avalanche  now lead the series  2-1.
The 4th game will be in Seattle Monday
night. Let's see the Kraken  tie the series.

Friday, April 21, 2023

Mariners Beat Cardinals

The Mariners beat St Louis Cardinal
5-2 in opening game of series. It
ended the three game losing streak.

The Cardinals actually scored their
two runs on a double by right fielder
Jordan Walker in the second. The
Mariners hsd their first run in the
second inning to.

The Mariners tied the game in the
4th inning on a Teoscar Hernandez
home run. Hernandez had a double
in the sixth inning and scored three
times in the game.

AJ Pollock though only had one hit
at dh in the sixth but drove in two
of the three runs that inning. Jarred
Kelenic who started against a lefty
drove in two runs with one on a
sacrifice fly.

George Kirby started and pitched six
innings. Gave up the two runs on three
hits. He didn't give up a walk and struck
out five batters. Kirby will win a lot of
games pitching this way. The bullpen
pitched lights out giving up no hits in
three innings. Paul Sewald has five
saves already.

Sam Haggerty is expected to be
activated Saturday off the concussion
list. Who he replaces will see. Dylan
Moore is expected to be out longer after
going on rehab assignment but
supposed to see the doctor who
did his off-season surgery.

Luis Castillo  is scheduled  to
pitch Saturday which we hope
is another Mariners win.

Kraken Make it close

The Seattle  Kraken  lost the second game
in the playoffs  3-2 to the Colorado  Avalanche
on their home ice.

Now  the series  is tied. We will have to
see whether it goes all seven  games or
not. I  wonder why the first  round of the
NHL  playoffs  go that long anyway.
Certainly  makes it a long season  for
the two teams making it to the finals.
I  guess you could say the champion
deserves it.

Now the series comes to Seattle.  Stay
tuned and see how the Kraken do.

In baseball we hope the Mariners turn
things around soon  though the season
is still  young. Playing the Cardinals  I
hope will help. I  enjoyed watching the
Cardinals back in the 60s.

Washington  Huskies  spring  football
games Saturday so we will  see  how
that goes although  doesn't tell a lot
though we do know they should have
another good season as long as Michael
Penix Jr  doesn't  get hurt. Go Dawgs!

Mariners Swept

Too bad this had to happen. The
Mariners were swept by Brewers
after sweeping the Rockies.

Not the first time it has happened
and not likely the last. Right now
the Brewers are a better club and
the Rockies are not.

The Mariners lost 5-3. The Brewers came
from behind to beat the Mariners. The
Mariners hsd only two runs at the time
with Julio Rodriguez hitting a home run
in the third inning. Nothing thereafter
until the ninth inning.

Marco Gonzales pitched great until the
seventh inning and left without an out along with giving up two runs to tie.
Maybe the Mariners should learn that
Marco is good for only six innings.

Matt Brash came in and gave up three
more runs and there was the game.
Brash is either great or terrible. Nothing
in between.

Julio who had been struggling at the
plate had two hits including the home
run. Kelenic had a hit starting against
a lefty. The hit scored the third run in the
9th. Right now AJ Pollock is starting
at dh against lefties as long as Kelenic
is hitting well. Again though at dh
he had no hits. Be interesting to see
who will get more at bats at dh if any
of them does get hits.

Tom Murphy caught and finally got a hit.
The Mariners could have Connor Hummel
catch but he isn't hitting either. Jose Caballero made his first start at second
base and had his first major league hit.
On Tuesday he started at shortstop and
nearly had a hit. It would be nice if he
could be a surprise for the Mariners.
He is on the roster since Sam Haggerty
came down with a concussion.

Dylan Moore started a rehab assignment
at Everett while Taylor Trammel is on one
in Tacoma. Since there hasn't been any
hitting at second base it would be nice
for his return. Like I said hopefully
Cabarello will be able to hit. The Mariners
need help at dh. Trammel could be
another good addition when he is ready.
Though having a third catcher is nice
the Mariners are not getting any production
besides Cal Raleigh at the position. Right
now only defense when Cal needs a day off.

The Mariners have Thursday off then
play the St. Louis Cardinals. The
Cardinals are not playing well so
hopefully means the Mariners will
sweep them or at least win two games.

Next Thursday the NFL draft begins.
The Seahawks have two first round
picks so we will let you know how
they do whether picking at 5 or moving
up or down. Right now they have two
second round picks as well so they will
be done on Friday. Again they could make
a move there too. Go Hawks.

Mariners Lose in Extra Innings Kraken Win

The Seattle Mariners right now are
struggling again. Can't match up
with the good teams and the bottom
of the batting order  continues to be
terrible unless JP Crawford is having
a good game.

Crawford had a day off though pinch
hit for Wong in extra innings. The
Mariners lost 6-5 in the 11th inning.
Need to improve in extra inning games.

Logan Gilbert didn't pitch as well as his
last outing giving up fours in six innings.
Cal Raleigh drove in a couple runs to help the Mariners stay in the game

Marco Gonzales starts the final game
this afternoon in the series.

The Kraken beat the Colorado Avalanche
in Colorado 3-1. It is a seven game series.
Go.Kraken!

Brewers End Mariners Streak

The Brewers were able to get to
Chris Flexen in the second inning
for three runs. He pitched well
third thru the fifth inning giving up
no runs but gave up another in
the sixth inning.

The Mariners did score a couple runs
to make it interesting including  a
home run by Cal Raleigh in the second.
Down by two runs Penn Murfee gave up a
two run homer in the seventh inning.
The trouble is Murfee has been pitching
way to much lately he needs a few days
off.

Julio had a home run in the 8th inning
but not enough. Final Brewers 7 Mariners 3

The bottom.of the Mariners order again
went hitless. They need to.come alive
for the Mariners to succeed even if it
is only one of them. Go M's

Sunday, April 16, 2023

Luis Castillo Is Awesome

The Seattle Mariners swept the
Colorado winning 1-0 on Sunday.

The game came down to Luis Castillo
and left fielder Jarred Kelenic. Castillo
went six innings pitching a perfect
game. The question was he going
to be the first pitcher to throw a perfect
game since the King Felix Hernandez.
Unfortunately he gave up two singles to
lead off the seventh but was able to get
out the next three batters. Luis Castillo
now has an era of 0.73 on the season.

Jarred Kelenic had the bat and the glove.
Six inning he drove in the only run in the
game driving in Ty France. In the eighth
inning he made a diving catch in right
field. This saved the game.

Monday the Mariners take on Milwaukee
Brewers. Chris Flexen starts and hopefully
does better than blowing the seven run
lead they had against the Cubs in game
two last Tuesday. I expect he will do
better but the Mariners offense will have to come alive again.

The Brewers are much better than the
Rockies leading the National League
Central with an 11-5 records. Means
the Mariners must do better. Go team.

Saturday, April 15, 2023

Kirby and the Mariners Offense Do Job

George Kirby did another fine job
Saturday night. He went six and a
third innings giving up two runs.
Again Kirby didn't walk a batter.

The Mariners scored five runs in
the fourth inning. Julio came to
bat with the bases loaded and hit
a triple clearing the bases. He scored
as well to. In the sixth inning the
Mariners scored four more runs.
Ty France and Eugenio Suarez
were hit back to back.

The dh spot still is an issue getting
no hits by Tommy LA Stella or AJ
Pollock. Tommy did draw a walk and scored. Kolten Wong didn't get a
hit but scored twice. JP Crawford
had two hits and two walks. Allows
Julio to get up with runners on base.

Final Mariners 9 Rockies 2

Sunday the Mariners will try to sweep
the Rockies with Luis Castillo takes
the mound. Luis pitches the way he has
on.the season the Mariners have a
good shot at sweeping. They do so
they go into Monday with an 8-8 record .
They take on Milwaukee Brewers in
a three game series beginning on
Monday. Go M's.

Kelenic Bombs Away

For the fourth game in a row
Jarred Kelenic hit a home run.
This time against a lefty.
The home run was in the second
inning with a runner on base.

As long as he is hitting Kelenic
will be in the lineup including
against lefties. I am sure he might
not start against a tough lefty.
He leads the Mariners in home runs
with four and batting average at .366
just ahead of Ty France at .356.

Teoscar Hernandez is heating up to
with two hits and now a .236 average.
Come aways being below .100.

The final was Seattle 5 Colorado 3

Marco Gonzales didn't start because
his wife hsd their baby Friday morning.
Tommy Milone was brought up from triple A to pitch in his spot. Milone started and
went four and two-thirds innings giving
up one run which happen in the first inning
on a homer. The Mariners went five
relievers in the game.

George Kirby goes Saturday. See if he
will pitch well again. The Mariners
are now 6-8 and tied with the Astros
in third place in the AL West. The
Texas Rangers have got on with s good start leading the division at 8-5. The
Angels are a game behind Rangers.
Go M's.

MarinersTake Final In Chicago

The Seattle Mariners came back
and beat the Cubs Wednesday
afternoon 5-2 after the disheartened
loss Tuesday afternoon.

Logan Gilbert pitched outstanding
going six and two-thirds innings.
He gave up one run which happened
in the first inning. Logan walked one
and striking out seven. Matt Brash
came in and finished seventh.

The game was close. The Mariner scored
two in the third and one in the seventh.
Teoscar Hernandez and Jarred Kelenic
hit back to back home runs in the 8th
to give some distance. On the TV broadcast Mike Blowers thought Kelenic home run blast was the longest at Wrigley
Field. It was Kelenic third home run in
three games.

The Mariners now come home for nine
games beginning on Friday. Marco
Gonzales goes against Colorado on
Friday. My opinion with a day off I
would skip his spot in.the rotation and
be ready to pitch if necessary. Go M's.

Mariners Blow Big Lead

The Mariners looked like they
would win early but it wasn' t
meant to be.

The Mariners scored two runs
in the first inning on a home run
by Eugenio.Suarez his first of
the season. The Mariners scored
five innings in the top of the  second.
The Cubs scored  a run in the
second but the third went wild where
they scored eight runs.

The Mariners should have lifted Flexen
after four runs and the bases loaded
instead gave up a grand slam home run.
The Mariners still had a chance but the bullpen gave up five runs.

Final  Cubs 14 Mariners 9

Wednesday will be day game.
Logan Gilbert expected to start

Monday, April 10, 2023

Mariners Lose In Extra Innings Again

The Seattle  Mariners  lost to the Chicago
Cubs in ten innings 3-2.

Luis Castillo pitched  well going six innings.
The Mariners  scored first with a run in
the top of the 4th. The Cubs scored twice
in the bottom  of  the 4th.

Jarred Kelenic  was the player of the game
for the Mariners, pinch hitting  for AJ Pollock.
He hit a solo home run  to tie the game in
the 9th letting the game into extra  innings.

Matt Brash  pitched the 10th inning. It looked
like he was going to  try to pick off the runner
at second who went to third and Brash  wasn't
able to catch the runner. The throw was errant.
The runner didn't  go further  on that play. He
scored on a single.

The main reason the Cubs won was because
Castillo  and  Brash  had trouble holding  runners.
Flexen starts Tuesday. He will need to do better
or the Cubs will look at running more.

Kolten  Wong  who didn't start at second did
come in for Haggerty and had a couple hits
including an infield  hit. We have to  see whether
he gets out of his slump. Go M's.

Sunday, April 9, 2023

George Kirby Not Enough

George Kirby went six innings giving
up one run. Again he didn't walk a
batter but threw 96 pitches. As the
season goes on we should see Kirby
go seven innings regularly.

The trouble in this game the offense
didn't do enough and the bullpen wasn't
what it has been. The Mariners made a
couple moves in the bullpen.

The Mariners brought up relievers  Justin
Topa and JB Bukauskas from Tacoma.
Tops pitched the 10th without giving
up a run though he walked a couple
batters.

The Mariners looked like they had
a good chance in winning the game
going into the bottom of the 9th. They scored a run in the top of the inning.
The trouble Matt Brash gave up a  couple
runs in the bottom to have the game
go extra innings.

Bukauskas gave up two runs in the 11th
after the Mariners had scored two themselves. Another chance two win
the game.

Penn Murfee came in the 12th after
the Mariners scored a run. With a
runner on second and first. The Mariners
walked Jose Ramirez which made sense.
The trouble Murfee tried to pick.off
the runner off at second but the ball
sailed into center field. Both runners
ended up scoring and there was the
ball game.

Murfee has pitched in.three straight
games so I wouldn't be surprised
the Mariners make a move before
facing the Chicago Cubs on Monday.
The Tacoma Rainier's game was postponed
on Sunday because of rain. The pitcher
is probably on the way to Chicago right
now.

What did the Mariners do with adding
the two relievers on Sunday. Matt Festa
was optioned to Tacoma and Andre Munoz
went on the 15 day injured list. I thought
the injured list was ten days but they must
have changed it again unless there is an
option of either ten or fifteen days.
The Mariners say Munoz just needs rest.

I expect Matt Brash likely will pitch
in the spot of Munoz. Certainly looked
like what happened Sunday.

Luis Castillo starts Monday in Chicago.
A good way to start the series. Oh yes the
final score Sunday Cle 7 Sea 6. The Mariners are now 4-6.

The starting rotation of the Mariners
should win three out of five for the
most part on the season. Have to
figure Castillo will win most of his
starts. Flexen in for Robbie Ray
until his return could go either
way. I expect Ray will win more
than he loses when he gets back.
Logan Gilbert and George Kirby
should win depending on the offense.
Marco Gonzales I expect will lose
more often than he wins. Though
he is in the 4th spot he is considered
the 5th starter. The question is how
long can he go and how many runs
scored against him and how many
runs the Mariners can score for him.
Marco could be in the rotation until
May, June or July. I expect one of
the Mariners pitching prospects will
take his spot. A lot will depend on
whether there is any more injuries
in the rotation. We could see Flexen
and Marco in the bullpen later on.
They both be able to go multiple
innings leaving the rest of the
relievers going one inning each.

The offense has their pluses and
minuses so far in the ten games.
The top of the batting order one through
four Julio, Ty France, Eugenio Suarez
and Cal Raleigh have done their job.
Five through eight although Kelenic
is doing fine though a bit inconsistent.
Teoscar Hernandez got off to a terrible
start is starting to climb out of it. Pollock
hard to judge since he has played limited
time.

Outside of Cal Raleigh when he has dh
the rest of the guys haven't hit. Second baseman Kolten Wong has played solid
defense but hasn't hit. Hopefully he turns
things around but a disappointment for
sure.  Tom Murphy and Sam Haggerty
have been disappointments at the plate
to. Murphy has one hit in 14 at bats for
.071 and Haggerty at .167. Both are
supposed to be good against lefties.
Murphy will either give Raleigh a day
off once or twice a week behind the
while dh on occasion. Haggerty is
platooning at second with Wong. His
value to is his place on the bases if
he can get there.

Cooper Hummel who has been at
dh for most of his at  bats is hitting
.091 and Tommy La Stella is hitting
.111. Between the two they have
two hits. Unless there is an injury
or when Dylan Moore returns the
Mariners may not make a move
until May or for a couple more
weeks.

JP Crawford has had his moments
but after Sunday he is hitting .212
in the ninth spot of the order. If he
can get at least one hit or a walk
in a game it helps with Julio coming
to come to the plate. Since the 7th
or 8th hitters are not producing makes
it hard on Crawford and Julio.

I see Hernandez starting to do something
but the rest of the guys in the bottom
of the order need to produce something.
Brian O'Keefe  is producing at catcher
and dh for the Tacoma at .444 average
and four home runs. If Hummell continues
to struggle I could see him come up and
be in the mix at catcher and dh. He bats
right handed so could hit against lefties.

Mike Ford is another who is hitting well
with Tacoma but his other tries with
the Mariners has done well. If La Stella
continues not to hit Ford could be given
a chance. We will see how they do.against
the Cubs. Mariners signed veteran infielder
Cesar Hernandez at the end of training
and is in Tacoma. Depending on Dylan Moore we could see him up to.
He is a switch hitting second baseman
for the most part.  Go M's.

Mariners Look Like We Are Familiar With

The Seattle Mariners beat Cleveland
3-2. Yes a one run game.

The Mariners had opportunity to score
a lot early with bases loaded but were
only able to score two runs in the first
inning. One key hit would have gotten
at least two more runs. The third one
came in.the second inning.

Marco was going along fine until the sixth
inning. He left with two outs and two runners on base.  The bullpen did a fine
job especially be a tight game. Paul Sewald pitched the ninth inning and received
the save.

George Kirby pitches Sunday. The Mariners
will serif they can sweep the Guardians
and have a record of 5-5.The Mariners
are in.third place. The Angels lead with
5-3 record and Rangers at 4-4.

Logan Gilbert Goes Four

Friday afternoon's game in Cleveland
the Mariners won 5-3.

Logan Gilbert only lasted four innings
with a lack of velocity. A little warning
Logan might not be healthy.

Right now it doesn't look like he will
miss his next start in Chicago against
the Cubs. He gave up a run in the first,
third and fourth innings. He threw 81
pitches by the Mariners figured he
shouldn't go another inning. The Mariners
were down 3-0 when he was lifted.

The Mariners scored two runs  in the fifth
and three in the sixth. JP Crawford had
a couple hits batting ninth. He drove in
two runs and hit a double. He was on base
when Julio hit a home run putting the Mariners.

Kolten Wong has been put down in the
lineup with struggling so far on the season.
The Mariners production has come from
the top four in the lineup. Julio is batting
.286, while France now second in lineup
is .333, Eugenio Suarez at .344 and Cal Raleigh at .280. Kelenic has raised his
average to .211. Crawford is now at .269.
The Mariners still not getting much
production out of dh.  Wonder any changes.
The Mariners face right handers against
the Guardians so won't see a lot Haggerty
or Pollock. Depending on the match ups
we will see them in one of the two remaining games. Kelenic should be in
left in all three games but Pollock could
see at dh either Saturday or Sunday.

Seattle Kraken

Thursday  night the Seattle  Kraken
beat the Arizona Coyotes  4-2.

Haven't  mentioned  the Kraken often
however they clinched a spot in the
playoffs for the first time.

How far the Kraken  go in the playoffs
we don't  know  but it is a historical
achievement  for the team. Whether
you watch a lot of games or not it
would idea to see them play in the
playoffs.

The Kraken  are in fourth place
in the Pacific  division.  They are
four points behind the LA Kings.
The Kings have three games remaining
on the season while the Kraken has
four. The Kraken  still could  finish
in third place but would likely win
all four games or at least three depending
on how the Kings do. Whatever happens
it is a success.

The Seattle Mariners  are in Cleveland
taking on the Guardians in a three game
series. Logan Gilbert is on mound for
the Mariners.  We hope the Mariners
offense will come alive. GO M'S

Angels Take Series In Seattle

I am sure most of us figure the Angels
would win the final game of the series
with Ohtani pitching  A lot of fans
watched Ohtani warming up in the
bullpen before the game. I hope a good sign so the Mariners can sign him
after the season. Before the first
game on Monday he gave honor
to Ichiro as well. Be nice a good sign.
The Mariners though need to make
the playoffs to be a contender to
sign him.

Ohtani didn't have his best performance
with four walks and two hit batters. The
Mariners were not able to take advantage
with only three hits and scoring only
once in six innings. Ohtani did strike out
eight Mariners. The Mariners need to do
the little things to score runs and not
make mistakes.

The Mariners scored two runs in the
seventh making it the score Angels 4
Mariners 3. Unfortunately they were
unable to add on in the 8th or 9th
innings to at least tie the game.
Maybe on.the road the Mariners
will do better. No game on Thursday.
They play the Guardians in a three
game series in Cleveland on Friday.
It would be nice two take at least
two games.

Eugenio Suarez was the hitting star
for the Mariners with two hits and
driving in two runs. He did make a
mistake being an out in run down.
He did admit the mistake after the
game. Probably won't see him do
that again at least for a while.

Chris Flexen pitched well going five
innings. He made one mistake giving
up a home run to catcher Logan
O'Hoppe. A no no since Logan bats
ninth and his second home run of the
season. Hopefully Flexen will go six
innings in.his next outing.

Diego Castillo gave up the other two runs
in the seventh inning. Castillo and Sewald
are two pitchers who have struggled
coming out of the bullpen. The rest of
the guys are doing fine.

Announced Wednesday Noah Williams
is using the transfer portal. The Huskies
now have seven players who are
transferring. Still need to hear from
Keion Brooks Jr whether he is staying
or going.

The Huskies will need to bring in
at least two guards and a forward
to have a competitive team. Right
now they have no real bench. I am
sure AD Jennifer Cohen didn't expect
this with Coach Hopkins coming
back for another year. After four
disappointing seasons Hopkins
has to turn around the ship to
have a coaching job at Washington
beyond next season unless Cohen
expects to keep him around for
his final year of contract no matter
what.

Mariners End Losing Streak

Luis Castillo did what an ace does
and ends the losing streak. Castillo
went five and two-third innings
without giving up a run. Next time
up we hope he goes further.

The top six hitters did their job
each having two hits. Julio
had a double in the first inning.
He scored the first run on a wild
pitch.

Teoscar Hernandez and AJ Pollock
each had two home runs. Hernandez
had four RBIs and Pollock had five.

Final Mariners 11 Angels 2

Paul Sewald was the lone pitcher
who struggled on the mound giving
up both runs on three hits. The
Mariners hsd already scored all their
runs. Hopefully Sewald will figure
things out. Wouldn't want this to
be the end of the line for him. He
is a great guy.

The Mariners face Ohtani Wednesday
afternoon. See if they can figure him
out on the mound. They have Thursday
off before facing the Guardians in
Cleveland. Already this will be the
end of facing Cleveland on the season.
The question will they face each other
in the playoffs. Go M's.

Seahawks Ryan Neal Unrestricted Free Agent

I am not sure why since in the four years
Ryan Neal  has been with the Seahawks
he has played good ball especially injuries
to Jamal  Adams.

Must be something  with the salary cap.
I hope the Seahawks  do find a way for
Ryan  to return.  All will depend what market
he finds. I  am  sure  John Schneider and
Pete Carroll  knows something  we don't
which is a given.

The NFL  draft is  about three weeks away.
They already have signed free agent  defensive
tackles and linebackers. With 10 draft picks
including  two in the first round I expect they
will draft at least  one defensive  tackle and
a linebacker. A quarterback  and wide receiver
somewhere as well.  It is good Geno Smith
has some  money before another quarterback
takes over in a year or two.

I could  see  five defensive  and five offensive
players taken in the draft. I could see them
moving  up or down  in the draft depending on
the round. Be exciting  to see. Anymore free
agents before the draft. Go Hawks !

Mariners Struggle Again

We can't panic yet however the Mariners
have now lost four straight. Monday
night to Los Angels Angels 7-3.

Ohtani and Trout were the ones giving
the trouble. Luis Castillo takes the
mound Tuesday night. The ace needs
to pitch like in the opener to end this
streak.

I am sure the Mariners will ride the
ship however better had they started
on solid ground. It isn't  just the hitting
the fielding has been terrible.

Eugenio Suarez is heating up having
a couple hits and driving in two runs
JP Crawford had two hits as well.
Julio walked twice and scored twice.
So far dh hasn't been productive
whoever has been there.  Hummel
started since facing a lefty but had
no hits.

Haggerty, AJ Pollock and Tom Murphy
all in against lefty were hitless to.
Need something to happen. Another
day see change happens. Go M's

Another Loss For Mariners

After the opener of the season where
Ty France hit a three-run homer the
rest of the series didn't go well for the Mariners. Only Logan Gilbert pitched
well on Saturday.

Marco Gonzales pitched a lot like
last season going five innings and
giving up four runs on six hits.
The game went ten innings with
the Mariners losing 6-5. A throwing
error by Cal Raleigh trying to complete
a double play allowed the Guardians
to score. The Mariners not so lucky
had Sam Haggerty get to.third after
being the runner at second. They couldn't
bringing him home.

Julio had a good series after being hitless
in the opener. Sunday he led off the Mariners with a home run in.the game.
He had another hit as well.  He had .333 average for  Ty France leads with batting
average of .375. Cal Raleigh has .286
average having two hits on the day and
driving in two runs. Eugenio Suarez hsd
two hits on the day raising average to
.250.

The rest of the lineup looks sadly sick
and why the Mariners lost three out of
four besides fielding errors. I am sure
the Mariners will clean up the fielding.
The rest of the lineup isn't close to
batting .200. Fortunate thing it was
the first series.

The Texas Rangers lead the West Division
at 3-0 sweeping the Philadelphia Phillies.
The Angels come into Seattle 2-1. Their
opening was against Oakland which tells
you a lot. The Astros were 2-2. The Mariners and Astros played four games
because of retractable roofs. No chance
of rainouts for the first weekend.

The Mariners now play three games
against the Angels at home before
going on the road to Cleveland then
Chicago against the Cubs for three series game series each. Hopefully win six of nine. Go M's.

Mariners Bats Are Silenced

Outside of Ty France home run
in the 8th inning of game one
the Mariners  bats have been
silenced for the most part.

The Mariners  only had three hits
Saturday  night with Julio Rodriguez
having two of them. The meat of
the lineup were silenced. The only
other hit was by dh Tommy La Stella.

So far the Mariners haven't  seen
outfielder  AJ Pollock in the lineup
with the right-handed pitching of
Cleveland. Sorry  can't say Guardians
at least too often.

Logan Gilbert went six solid innings
giving up four hits. Unfortunately  one
of them was a home run in the 4th
inning.  He should  win a lot of games
if the Mariners can start hitting. The
fortunate thing still early  in the season.

Marco Gonzales goes Sunday. Hopefully
see some runs. Go M's.

News On Robbie Ray

A good reason  Robbie  Ray  didn't
pitch well on Friday night.  Saturday
morning a MRI revealed a strain
on his left elbow. No wonder he
wasn't  able  to  pitch well.

Ray will not throw  for  the next
couple weeks. He will have to
build his arm back up. He might
miss action for the rest of April.
We will have to see. Make sure
he will be good the rest of the
season.

Chris Flexen  who pitched the last
four innings of the game will start
in his place. Left hander Gabe Speier
was called up to take Ray's spot.
Speier  likely will take Flexen's spot
as the long reliever.

We do hope Robbie  has a steady
recovery and no other starting
pitcher goes down  at least while
he is out.

Logan Gilbert  will start Saturday
night followed  by Marco Gonzales
on Sunday.  George Kirby will start
Monday  night against the  Angels.
Go M's.

Robbie Ray and Mariners Lose

Having had a spectular spring training
we were expecting a good start by
Robbie Ray, however didn't turn out that
way.

Ray had trouble early on throwing a
lot of pitches. He got out the first
without surrounding a run but threw
over 20 pitches. Like early last
season Ray had one bad inning
giving up runs sort of.

The second inning he loaded the bases
but a throwing error where Teoscar
Hernandez tried to throw the runner at
home. Three runners scored that inning.
In the fourth he gave up a couple more
runs before exiting with one out.

Trevor Gott made his Mariners debut
but gave up three runs in the 5th
inning. Again fielding was the primary
problem since none of the runs were
earned. Before Ray left the Mariners
had tied the game 3-3 on a  two run
double by Cal Raleigh. The Mariners
scored one more run in the fourth.

Penn Murfee finished off the 5th
for Gott. Chris Flexen came in and
finish the game going four innings.
He did OK though walked three
batters. I don't expect to Flexen
in the remaining two games against
Cleveland unless it is for one inning
or less.

Besides Raleigh, Julio had a couple
doubles including leading off the
first inning. The final was Cleveland 9
Seattle 4. Logan Gilbert will start
Saturday night hopefully look more
like Castillo in the opener.

The Tacoma Rainiers had a great
opener beating Oklahoma in
their park 15-8. The Rainers had
15 hits on the night including
two home runs. They play a three
game series against Oklahoma
before coming home to start
a six game series against Reno.
Taylor Dollard is the only pitching
prospect pitching for the Rainer's.
He is expected to start Sunday.

The Mariners double A team starts
their season next Thursday. The same
goes for Everett who begins their season
at home.
