Preview Hawaii at Washington State

On Saturday the WSU Cougars had
another close call. They do have 5-1
record. Have the had some luck.
They could have had three more
losses or at least two.

The Cougars now take on Hawaii
in an early afternoon game at home.
Hawaii is 2-4 on the season and
are winless on the road in two games.
The Cougars are favored by 19.5 points.
The two teams have played five times
with Hawaii winning three.

Hawaii lost to Boise State at home
last Saturday 28-7.  Both teams lost
to Boise State however the Cougars
have shown the better of the two
teams.

Hawaii is averaging 21 points while
giving up 20.3 per game. Not a
comparison since they beat their
two opponents by a large margin
while losing a good margin in several
games as well.

Hawaii pass the ball more frequently than running. They  are averaging 266 yards passing while their opponent averaging 193.5 yards  a game. Hawaii is averaging 80.5yards rushing while opponent is at
139.3.

The Cougars on the ground they are at
185 yards a game. Their opponent is averaging 166.5 a game. Most likely they won't give up as many yards on the ground in this one.  In the air the Cougars are
averaging 277 yards a game while giving
up 280 a game.

The Cougars have only two fumbles on
the season and six interceptions. Hawaii
may pass more in this one especially if
they are behind.  Cougars should still
still score at a high level however this
is why they play the game.

Seattle Kraken and Seahawks

The Kraken opened the season last
Tuesday losing to the St. Louis
Blues at home in NHL season opener
3-2. It was odd since the Blues scored
all three goals in the second period
after the Kraken had scored two.

Saturday the Kraken had their first
road game in Minnesota. The Wild
scored a goal in the first and second
periods. It was tied as the Kraken
scored two goals. Both teams had
two goals in the third period ending
in a tie. Last season the Kraken had
a hard time scoring in the third period.
The Kraken won by getting a goal in
overtime.

On Sunday the Kraken were shutout
by the Dallas Stars on the road 2-0.
The Kraken have their third remaining
game on this road trip before coming
home to face the Philadelphia Flyers.

In football the Seahawks made a trade
with the Jacksonville Jaguars acquiring
defensive lineman Roy Robertson-Harris.
The Jacguars will receive a late round
draft pick from the Seahawks in 2026.
I expect which round will depend how he and the Seahawks do. The Seahawks
have had injuries to their defensive line
and so the resson for the trade. The
Seahawks will be facing the Falcons
in Atlanta on Sunday.

Cougars Win On the Road

The game for the WSU Cougars was
a close one heading into the 4th
quarter. The Cougars were leading
16-14. Fresno State Bulldogs were
able to make a drive however they
had to settle for a field goal putting
them up by one.

They were able to stop the Cougars
on their next position. They started
driving like they will score a touchdown
or at least a field goal. The Bulldogs
Mikey Keene made a big mistake
throwing directly to Cougars Cornerback
Ethan O'Connor who returned it for
a touchdown. The Cougars were able
to make the two point conversion to
make the score 25-17.

The Bulldogs had no timeouts and under two minutes remain. Some mistakes on
their part including the kick returning
falling down on the kick return. They
were able to get into place to tie the
score however had  the final play
that went incomplete and the Cougars
won.

The Cougars come home to play Hawaii
next Saturday at 12:30 pm. The Cougars
are now 5-1. One more win the Cougars
should qualify for a bowl game. Not
being in a conference it is hard to know
what bowl game they will.be asked to
play in. They have six games left to play
so they are at the half point line on the
season. Go Cougs!

Huskies Lose On the Road Again

The Huskies are unseated at home
however having trouble doing the
same on the road.

Final Iowa 40 Washington 16

Iowa is not normally a high scoring
team although this the fourth game
they have won scored at least 30 points.
The Huskies again have more yardage
than the opposing team they lost too.
Coach Jedd Fisch said after the game
not only did they played badly it was
weird game.  The Huskies have a bye
week before facing Indiana and again
this game will be on the road. The
Huskies need to find a way and turn
things around.

Kaleb Johnson had a touchdown run
to put the Hawkeyes up 7-0   in the
first quarter. Denzel Boston caught a
pass for a touchdown in second quarter
to tie then Hawkeyes  had a field goal then
Johnson had his second touchdown on
the day and another field goal at the end
of the first half right after the Huskies had
one.

Half time score Iowa 20 Washington 10.
Hawkeyes had a field goal in the third
quarter as the only score of the period.
4th quarter Iowa  had two touchdowns
and a field goal. The Huskies had a touchdown with the second unit to end
the scoring with a long drive. Rashid Williams had his first career touchdown
from Desmond Williams Jr. who completed
12 of 16 for 71 yards.

Interception, fumble and special teams
was the Huskies trouble. In two weeks
the Huskies will be on the road at Indiana.
We see whether they can turn things
around on the road. Go Dawgs!

Gonzaga Men's Basketball Preview

I am sure most have heard Gonzaga
is going to the Pac-12 as it is still
being called  in 2026. The Zags will
be the only non-football school in
the conference at least right now.
The conference right now has eight
schools listed who will make it
coming up. They have to add at least
one more university who plays football.

Gonzaga begins their non-league schedule
on November 4 against Baylor. They
play six non-league games for the WCC
begins on December 30 at Pepperdine.
This schedule will be tough so we will
see how good they are. Besides Baylor
they are followed by Arizona  State,
West Virginia, Kentucky, Connecticut
and UCLA.

The Zags won't look tgecssme as far
as high profile players they do bring
back most of the roster from last season.
At point guard will be Ryan Nembhard
who set a Gonazaga record in assists
last year averaging 6.9 per game while
scoring 12.6 points a game. Again be
important to have the ball in his hands
again.

Shooting guard will be Nolan Hickman
who averaged 14 points a game and
shot 41.3% behind the 3pt. line. At small
forward will be Michael Ajayi who averaged
17.2 points a game and shot 47% behind
the 3pt. line in limited attempts. May see
him take more shots behind the arc this
season.  Ajayi average 9.9 rebounds
last year placing him se Ind in the WCC.

Ben Gregg is expected to be the starting
power forward after taking over the role
during last season. Graham Ike returns
at center where he averaged 16.5 points
a game along with 7.4 rebounds. The
previous two years Ike played at Wyoming.

The bench will be made up of five guys
mainly depending on the rotation. Often
teams will go with eight do the last two
might not get as many minutes. Braden
Huff at forward averaged 13.5 minutes a
game as a true freshman last year scoring
9.3 points a game. Coming in his second
season he most likely will have a bigger
role.

Another one coming into his sophomore
season will be small forward Dusty
Stromer. He averaged pretty good
playing time last year at 23.5 minutes a
game. Stromer averaged 4.8 points
a game however we should see that
go up this season. Another key bench
player is Khalif Battle a point guard
well as shooter. Depending on the
situation he might be the first off the
bench and could start as well. Battle
is an experience player as Gonzaga
will be the fourth school he plays for.
Last season his only at Arkansas he
averaged 14.8 points a game. Battle
starts or comes off the bench he is
a solid newcomer to the Zags.

Emmanuel Innocenti  is expected to
be the ninth player in the rotation.
A transfer from Tarleton State where
he played one year as a true freshman
and started 33 games. Tarleton State
is in the WAC and Innocenti averaged
6.6 points and 6.4 rebounds a game.

Steele Venters guard/forward missed
most of last year with an ACL injury.
The Zags were hoping to have him
this season however he tore his left
Achilles tendon so will miss another
season. The Zags have five other
reserves so we will find out if one
of them will be part of the rotation
or not. Go Zags!

Seahawks Lost Thursday Night

The Seahawks had a slow start to
another game. They did try to
establish the run with Ken Walker 3.
They had the ball at kickoff however
couldn't go anywhere.

Final 49ers 36 Seahawks 24

The Seahawks weren't able to
score in the first half having no
points. They allowed the 49ersar
only a field goal in the first quarter.

The second quarter Samuel caught
and ran for a 76 yard touchdown.
Big plays and turnover cost the
Seahawks. The Seahawks were able
to hold the 49ers to two field goal
though they did a good job running
the ball. The Seahawks were able
to get a field goal before the half ended
SF 16 Sea 3 at half time

The 49ers scored a touchdown first by
George Kittle in the third quarter however
the Seahawks had a kickoff return to
make it SF 23 Sea 10

Ken Walker had a touchdown just over
five and a half minutes remaining in
third quarter to have San Francisco
up by six points.

In the fourth quarter at 7:46 remaining
Geno Smith had a pass intercepted. It turned out to be another George Kittle
touchdown. Tyler Lockett had a catch
for a touchdown to give the Seahawks
a chance. The 49ers had a long run that
setup a six yard touchdown that ends
up burning the Seahawks.

The win allowed the 49ers to tie the
Seahawks for the lead in the division.
Had the Seahawks won it would have
made the 49ers 0-3 in the division
since they had lost to the Rams and
Cardinals. The Seahawks go and play
the Falcons in Atlanta Sunday October
20 while 49ers are home against the
Kansas City Chiefs.

Preview: WSU Cougars At Fresno State

The Cougars play at Fresno State this
Saturday Night. The key is for their
offense continue what they are doing
on the season.

They had a bye last week after being
beat by Boise State 45-24 for the first
loss of the season the week before.
A key to win is to play how they have
offensively on the season. Another
key would be defensively how they
did in week two against Texas Tech
and week three against the Washington
Huskies. Those were the best defensive
games of the season.

Fresno State had a bye last week as
well so no advantage on that front
for either team. They also lost that
week as well to UNLV 59-14.  The
three prior games they averaged over
40 points a game. So we could see
a high scoring affair as well. This
could give FSU the advantage being
at home.

This game will be the second road
game on the season for the Cougars
and the second in a row so can't really
say if this is an advantage for FSU
or not. This to is why they play the
games.

The last outing between them was
in the Jimmy Kimmel LA Bowl
where Fresno State won 29-6 in
2022.  We hope for a better result.

Fresno State much like the Cougars
are more of a passing team than
running although either one could
have some success on the ground.
Mike Keene is the FSU quarterback.
In his second season after transferring
from Central Florida. When they do
run the ball senior Malik Sherrod is the
guy. He has sixty carries on the season
averaging 3.7 yards a carry and has
four touchdowns.

Who will win may come down to the
team with the least mistakes and
penalties. Go Cougs!

Preview: Washington At Iowa

Washington Huskies travel to Iowa
to take on the Hawkeyes. The Huskies
and the Hawkeyes haven't played since
1995 so not much baring on this game.

The Hawkeyes are 3-2 on the season
while the Huskies are 4-2. Last Saturday
Iowa lost to number 2 Ohio State 35-7
while the Huskies won 27-17 over #10
Michigan. How both teams react after
last week may decide who wins.

Like Michigan the Hawkeyes are a running
team so once again the Huskies will have
to look at stopping the run. Offensively
the Huskies should try score earlier to
force Iowa to throw the ball. Kaleb Johnson
is the Hawkeyes leading rusher.

Iowa is a 2.5 favorite in the game. The
Huskies have to show they can win
on the road. Having a lot of new players
is likely part of playing better on the
road. Go Dawgs!

Kraken Lose Opener

The Seattle Kraken opened the season
at home Tuesday afternoon against the St.Louis. The first game played in the NHL
season.

The Kraken did well on defense except
two minutes in the second period when
they gave up three goals. I am sure we
don't see that happen often. It would
be amazing if it happens again the
rest of the season.

The Krsken scored two goals in the
second period after both teams went
scoreless in the first period. The
Kraken couldn't tie and both teams
went scoreless in the third period too.

Vince Dunn had the Kraken's first
goal of the season. The Kraken
had trouble scoring a lot in the
third period last season. We hope
this isn't something we see a lot
this year too.

The Kraken go on the road for their
next three games. The next one is
Saturday in Minnesota. We hope
to see better and a victory. Go team.

Preview: SF 49ers at Seahawks

This week the 49ers and the Seahawks
are playing on  Thursday night football.
This will be the Seahawks third game
in ten days. I am sure they will enjoy
the break after.

The Seahawks lead the series 30-22.
The Seahawks dominated during
Russell Wilson time as quarterback
with 17-4 record. Since then the 49ers
have gotten better they have won the
last five games against each other.

The Seahawks got off to a good start
this season winning their first three
games.  Injuries to the defensive line
hasn't helped in the losses to the Lions
on Monday night football and this last
Sunday against the NY Giants.

The Seahawks haven't run the ball a
lot in the two losses especially against
the Giants where they did it eleven times.
Ken Walker 3 after missing games 2 and
3 returned in the two losses however
didn't carry the ball a lot especially against
the Giants. He had only five carries.

Geno Smith is out throwing the ball a
lot whether by design or not. For the
Seahawks to win they have to get back
to running the ball and the passing will
be more effective and Geno won't have
to run for his life so much. Both losses
DK Metcalf fumbled after catching the
ball and the Seahawks went into a fall.
This Thursday be important he doesn't
fumble by trying to get more yardage.

The 49ers  began the season beating
the NY Jets 32-19. Things looked good
however they lost the next two on the
road at Minnesota and the LA Rams.
Both losses were less than by a TD.
They came home to beat NE Patriots
30-13. On Sunday they lost to the
Arizona Cardinals by a point 24-23.

The 49ers losing both road games
will want to change things coming
to Seattle their top rival in the NFC
West. The Seahawks hope to be
more healthy on the defensive line.
I am sure Coach Macdonald will
look at making some changed on
the defense as well as OC Ryan
Gruff on the offense.

This game could go where it could
be a blow out and I expect by the
49ers winning or a close game with
either team being victorious. We hope
the Seahawks back on the winning
track. The Seahawks will have ten
days off before playing the Falcons
in Atlanta. We hope not licking their
wounds. Go Hawks!

The Mariners Starting Pitching

We all know the playoffs show some
good pitching especially from the
starters.  In the playoffs generally
the teams go with three and the
other two either go into the bullpen
or left off the roster though it can
change each round. The World Series
may go with four depending how
the series goes. The Mariners rotation
is such any of the five could be among
the three or four. We hope adding more
hitters or the philosophy of hitting in
September will be success in 2025.
We will look at that during this offseason.

Jerry Dipoto the President of Baseball
Operations said after the season was
over trading one of the starting five
would be plan Z. I am sure most of us
hope so though another team could
out a trade package the Mariners may
find hard to pass up. I vsee that only
bringing back a veteran hitter that has
a few good years ahead of him.

The starting pitcher on the 40 man
roster to trade outside the five who
started most of the games to trade
would trade be Emerson Hancock.
To put together a good package to
bring in a good hitter in return the
Mariners would have to add a few
other players too. I don't see or hope
none of the top ten prospects would
be traded. Only Tyler Locklear has
any major league experience. They
could add him with Hancock to
snag someone  though maybe a
couple more. Dominic Canzone
showed power from the left side.
The trouble is he didn't hit lefties
very well. Other teams would have
to look at his potential.

The Mariners do have some pitching
prospects between eleven and twenty
they could add in a trade too. At the
end of the top ten who moved up in
the Mariners prospects was Logan
Evans. He pitched at double A Arkansas
Where he went 9-5 with s 3.20 era.
The Mariners tried him out in the
bullpen however they felt he was better
as a starter. The Mariners could put
him in a trade too. In eleven through
20 prospects the Mariners have 8
pitchers. They could add any of them
to a trade as well.

The Mariners first two draft picks are
in the top ten at seven and eight. The
Mariners won't trade either of those
two. We will have to see whether the
Mariners pick up a third baseman.
Next time up on the Mariners we will
look at the position players. Go M's.

Huskies In NFL part two

Ralen Goforth played most of his
college career at USC however
came to the Huskies to finish
on championship team. He is
on the Green Bay Packers as a
linebacker however went on the
injured list for his ankle.

Myles Bryant played four years
at Washington for 50 games as
a defensive back. He signed as
an undrafted college free agent
after his last game in 2019. He
had trouble getting on the field
his first year however played
sparingly for the New England
Patriots for four years. Now he
is the backup nickle back for
the Houston Texans. He has
played in three games this year
for the Texans.

Josiah Bronson defensive tackle
has played in eight games in the
NFL however hasn't been in a game
since 2022. He currently on the
practice squad with the Indianapolis
Colts.

Trent McDuffie who had a good career
at Washington left after his third season
was drafted in the first round by the
Kansas City Chiefs as a starting corner
back. He has started every game he
has played in. Has 15 tackles on the
season. Keith Taylor another corner
is on the practice squad.

Will Dissly who played six years for the
Seattle Seahawks signed with the San
Diego Chargers during the offseason.
On the season he has nine catches for
85 yards however no touchdowns yet.

Myles Gaskin one of the Huskies great
running backs is now a member of the
Minnesota Vikings after four years with
Miami. He has played in all five games
however sparingly as the third running
back. Bryon Murphy Jr  is the Vikings
right cornerback. We can't confuse with
the Seahawks number one pick. Second
year with Vikings after being with the
Arizona Cardinals. Byron has 27 tackles
and one interception.

Ja'Lynn Polk who had a good season for the Huskies in 2023 and drafted by the
New England Patriots in the second
round is one of their starting. receivers.
Polk has eight catches for 61 yards
and a touchdown in game two in a
loss to the Seahawks. We wish him
the best. Jack Westover who was
in Seahawks in training camp is now
a member of the Patriots practice squad.

John Ross who has had injuries in his
NFL career is on the Eagles practice
squad.

Troy Fautanu a number one pick this year
by the Pittsburgh Steelers is out for the
season with an injury to a kneecap recently.
He could return if the Steelers make the
playoffs.

Dominique Hampton third string outside
linebacker was drafted in the fifth round
by the Washington Commanders. He
hasn't seen any action yet.

Last but not least is the members of
Tampa Bay who have six former Huskies
all active and four are starters so they
know to pick them. The longest member
is Vita Vea who was drafted by TB in
2018 in the first round at nose tackle
and a mainstay. Vea job is to plug the
holes has eight tackles and two qb sacks.
Joe Tryon-Shoyinka edge rusher and number one pick in 2021 has nine tackles
and one sack on the season so far. Cade
Otton a fourth round pick in 2022 is
the TB number one tight end. Cade has
has 17 catches for 148 yards and has
no touchdowns yet after having four last
season. Jalen McMillan drafted this
year in the third round after missing more
than half of the Huskies games last season
at wide receiver. Jalen has three catches
including a 32 yard touchdown in the
opening game of the season against the
Commanders. He is out right now with
hamstring. Wish him back soon as the
Bucs have three other receivers out too.
Greg Gaines who began his career with
the Rams drafted 4th round in 2019 is
the backup to Vea. He is in his second
season at TB. Gaines hss five tackles
on the season.  Drlvin Culp 4th tight
end a starter with the Huskies last season
and drafted in the seventh round. So
far he hasn't caught a pass.

There goes the Huskies in the NFL.
Bring more news on the guys playing
coming up in November if not before.

Seahawks Second Loss

The Seahawks usually play well at
home however Sunday afternoon
wasn't one of those days.

Final NY Giants 29  Seahawks 20

The Seahawks scored first with
a fumble return in the first quarter.
You would have thought that put
the Seahawks in a good spot to win
the game. Giants scored a touchdown
through the air in the second quarter
to tie and had a field goal to go
ahead. The Seahawks tied again
with their own field  to end first half.

The second half was the Giants though
Seahawks had their chances  they
could have tied and maybe win the
game although they didn't really deserve
it.

The Seahawks defense couldn't stop
the Giants and the offensive line did
awful not giving Geno Smith a good
time to throw.  The Giants had a touch
down pass in the third quarter and
the Seahawks had field goal and the
Giants matched it to make it 20-13.

The Giants in the fourth quarter had
field goal and  Geno Smith threw a
touchdown pass with 3:44 left in the
game to give hope. Around the one
minute mark left the Seahawks kicked
to tie the score however the Giants
blocked it and ran back for a touchdown.
The two point conversion wasn't good.

The Seahawks wasn't good at the run
on the day either. They had only eleven
carries and Ken Walker had five for
19 yards. Geno led in yardage with 72
on four carries. The Seahawks won't
win many games with that many carries.
Geno threw 40 times with 28 completions
for 284 yards.

The Seahawks play the 49ers on Thursday
and they will have a fight since they lost
to Arizona  24-23.  The Seahawks will
have to get better. The Seahawks still
lead the division however could change
after Thursday without a win. Go Hawks!

Huskies Extend Home Streak

The Washington Huskies beat Michigan
27-17 to extend home winning streak to
18 games.

The Huskies scored two touchdowns
first in the first half. Michigan came
back to take the lead 17-14. The Huskies
tied with a field goal. It was rough since
the Huskies missed a field goal and
the Wolverines blocked one.

In the 4th quarter Michigan had a couple
turnovers to help setup a touchdown
and then less than two minutes they
kicked a field goal.

The Huskies didn't have the penalties
they have had in the two losses they
had. Michigan had a pass interference
to setup the field goal. The Huskies
showed they can play in the Big Ten.

The Huskies beat the Wolverines in
the passing game and Wolverines did
better in the running game but not
as much as they were hoping for.

The Huskies play at Iowa next Saturday. It starts at 9 am Washington time.
We will have a preview of the GAM this next  week. Go Dawgs!

Washington Huskies In The NFL

After going to the National championship game the Huskies have more players in
the NFL.  They currently have 29 active
along with those who are on injured list and practice squad. Here we will mention those who are on injured list and practice who
have familiar names. Go with those on active for the most part. Break this in two part. We will end with the Tampa Bay Bucs
since they have the most players.

Baker is in his 8th season with the Cardinals and nSunday October 6 will be his 100th game for them. He has been a six years a Pro Bowler however talks the Cardinals may trade him. The reason is get more players and younger as well.

Arizona Cardinals have two players. Andre
Baccellia wide receiver on the PS. Buddha
Baker continues to play well at safety.

The Atlanta Falcons have four players.
Most familiar is Michael Penix Jr. quarterback from last season's national
championship game. Right now he
is the backup quarterback which was
a surprise the Falcons drafted him so
high. Edge rusher Bralen Trice was
drafted as well. He was injured during
training camp so may not.see him either.
Kevin King who spent five years with
GB Packers is now a member of the Falcons where he is backup at right cornerback. Right tackle Kaleb McGary
has been a mainstay for the Falcons since
being drafted in the first round in 2019.
He helps the running game.

Roger Rosengarten is the only member
of the Baltimore Ravens. Drafted this
year in the second round he is the backup
right tackle. He did make a start in his
fourth game as Patrick Mekari was moved to left guard because of an injury. Roger
made a good impression on his head
coach. May see more of him.

Taylor Rapp who was drafted and played
four years for the LA Rams is now in his
second year for the Buffalo Bills. He is
now starting at strong safety after only
starting four games last year. Linebacker
a rookie Edefuan Ulofoshio drafted fifth
round made the roster though still looking
for playing time. We hope he gets some some soon.

Carolina Panthers have Shaq Thompson
who is known around the team. Right now
he is on injured list. Safety Alex Cook
and running back Dillon Johnson are
on the practice squad.

Chicago Bears have three former Huskies
Rome Odunze drafted number nine as
the teams second first round pick along
with Kyler Gordon at nickel back and
Coleman Shelton at center. All three are
starting. Odunze so far as a rookie has
ten catches for 166 yards and one touchdown. Looks like he will have a
good career.

The Cincinnati Bengals have three Huskies.
Jake Browning got his chance last year
to quarterback as injuries happen. He started seven games. He currently a
backup and we hope he gets his chance.
Jaxson Kirkland who had a good career
at Washington is backup at left guard.
He was signed as a college free agent.
Spent his first year on the practice squad.
Drew Sample tight end is known for his
blocking has four catches so far this year.

Nick Harris who was in camp with the
Seahawks was traded back to the Cleveland Browns is backup center.
He could play guard as well.

Salvon Ahmed who began his career
with the Miami Dolphins is now on
the practice squad of the Denver
Broncos. Luke Wattenberg offensive
lineman drafted in the fifth round
in 2022. He played only seven games
his rookie season. His patience worked
out as he played in 16 games in 2023
though he didn't start any and now the
starting center.

Levi Onwuzurike had to wait patiently
to be a starter with the Detroit Lions.
He got into 16 games in 2021 however
not as a starter. In 2022 he missed the
whole season for injured back. Last
year he played in ten games and now
he is a starter. Against the Seahawks
on Monday night football he had three
tackles and a hit on Geno Smith.

This part one of the Huskies in the NFL
next time will be the second part. We will
give you more news on the season on
these former Huskies.

Look Ahead At Mariners Bullpen

In 2024 the Seattle Mariners bullpen
was solid despite having some injuries
and let downs.

Andre Munoz had another solid year
though he had to deal with back issues.
Unfortunately the Mariners didn't have
anyone to take his spot in the ninth
inning when he wasn't available. Trent Thornton had the most success and  he
had more value in the 7th and 8th
innings. Speaking of Thornton he
had a one year contract so not sure
he will be back or not.

The Mariners are hoping to have a
healthy Matt Brash in the coming
season although he may start the
season on the injured list. Most likely
he will be the setup man for Munoz on
.most occasions. The Mariners will
use Munoz when facing the middle
of the lineup even when not the 9th
inning which gives more reason to
have Brash back too. The same goes
for Gregory Santos if he returns healthy.
Those would be a good threesome.

The Mariners acquired Yimi Garcia
from Toronto  for the playoff run
however he got injured. He will be
a free agent so likely won't be back.
Colin Snider who spent some time
at Tacoma became a big surprise
and had a solid time in the bullpen.
He ended the season pitching late
in games as did Troy Taylor who
came up in September. Both can
be valuable next season taking the
soot of Thornton if he doesn't return
and they can be used late in games
again.  That takes care of five of the
Mariners eight spots in the bullpen.

The Mariners had looked at Gabe Speier
and Tayler Saucedo as the two lefties in the bullpen however Tayler was the only one
with some success. He did quite well
against lefties however not quite against
righties. A problem if you come in with
less than two outs or a pinch hitter is
used. Speier had injuries and spent time
in Tacoma. I don't expect him back. The Mariners likely to find another lefty.

Whether the Mariners have one or two
lefties will leave two spots remaining.
The Mariners hope to fill both spots
better than last season though Austin
Voth had a surprise season. Voth
a former Washington Huskies pitcher
may like to continue his stay. The
Mariners will likely to see who may
fill the eighth spot outside the organization
or see if there is another minor league
pitcher who fits the bill like Troy Taylor.
I am sure we will see what happens
and they will look to sign a few to
begin in Tacoma as well. The bullpen
should be exciting next season. We
will update later in the year and closer
to spring training.

Preview the New York Giants Visit Seattle

The New York Giants come this Sunday
afternoon to take on the Seahawks.
The Giants have the lowest scoring offense  in the NFC with sixty points
in four games. Their defense is good
with only five teams giving up less points
in the conference at 84. The Giants are last in the NFC East.

The Seahawks lead the series between
these two 11-10. In recent times the
Seahawks have dominated the series.
The Seahawks won in New York last
year 24-3. The last win by the Giants
was in Seattle in 2020 17-12.  The only
win in there last seven meetings.

The Seahawks will have to play better
defense than they did on Monday night.
The Giants on the other hand played
last Thursday so have extra rest which
may help them.  The Seahawks have
lead the NFC in passing though they try to run first. Ken Walker should play for the
second straight game after missing two
games. The question is how long can
he stay healthy.

The Giants to throw the ball a lot though
in Seattle they should start with run too.
They don't have a lot of yards running
the ball. The Seahawks had trouble stopping the Lions running the ball
so running the ball would be good.

The team who has success running
the ball to open the pass should win
the game. The Giants best chance
is  to keep the game at a low score.
The Seahawks are favored by a
touchdown.  Go Hawks!

Preview Michigan Comes To Husky Stadium

The Washington Huskies play the
Michigan Wolverines this coming
Saturday at Husky Stadium at
4:30 pm.

The Huskies come into the game
with a seventeen gaming winning
streak at home. The Wolverines
beat the Huskies in the National
Championship Game last January.
Things have changed for both teams
having new head coaches.

Michigan leads the series 8-5. They
both won two times facing each other
in the Rose Bowl. Michigan game is
running the ball. The Huskies will need
to stop the running game as they have
had difficulty doing though a bit better
this year.

When it comes to statistics the Huskies
has been doing well this year however
it hasn't worked on the scoreboard with
the two losses. In fact against Rutgers
last week the did better in every way except win.

The Huskies will need to way to execute
better when they get down in the red zone
which is inside the twenty yard line. The
defense will have to stop the Wolverines
in the red zone too. This game could come
down to execution and  not turning the
ball over or penalties. In the end we hope
the Huskies win their 18th straight game
at home. Go Dawgs!
