Mariners Lack Offense In Houston

The Seattle Mariners had trouble
hitting once again in Houston
against the Astros.

Not a big surprise since the Astros
joined the American League west.
Can't be just the Mariners  since
the Astros have been winning the
division most of those years.

The Mariners were only able to
have hits on the night with two
by Ty France. The Mariners were
shut out 3-0.

Marco Gonzales returned after
being hit by a line drive in his
last outing. Marco was able to
go six innings giving up the three
runs. The three runs by Houston
came from two home runs. Marco
does throw a hard fastball so direction
and position is important. The reason
he gives up so many.

On Monday the Mariners had to go
down to 26 players on active roster.
They sent down infielder Donovan
Walton and pitcher Justus Sheffield.
Walton hadn't played much since he
had been called up. He was recalled
when Mitch Haniger was put on the
covid injured list. Though used out
of the Mariner's bullpen at Tacoma
Sheffield likely will start this allow
him to stretch out in case the Mariners
need another starter.

The Mariners have nine relievers and
five starters on the active roster.
Tom Murphy and Luis Torrens are the
catchers. They have six infielders
with Abraham Toro and Dylan Moore
as the extras. Toro has played a lot
primarily at third and on occasion
at second and dh. Dylan Moore list
as infielder has played mostly right
field against lefties. The Mariners
have four outfielders with Stuart
Fairchild called up when Mitch
Haniger went on injured list for
ankle sprain. How much he will
play will probably not be a lot. A
right handed hitter he might play
in left field for Jesse Winker against
lefties or if Winker is dh.

Chris Flexen goes Tuesday night for
the Mariners in Houston. Important
game for Mariners to win as they
play a day game Wednesday game
against Justin Verlander.  Go.M's.
