best game of the season. Certainly on
the pitching front.
Marco Gonzales dueled well with Mets
ace Max Scherzer. Marco went six and
two-thirds innings giving up one run on
five hits. The one run happened in the
first inning.
Scherzer was pitching great as well pitching
a no-hitter going into the fourth inning
when the Mariners were able to tie the game.
The Mariners scored the only other run of
the game in the eighth inning when Abraham
Toro and Adam Frazier both walked. Ty France
hit a ball to right field to score the winning. The
run was not off Scherzer as he left the game
after seven innings. In all Scherzer gave up
three hits.
The Mariners made several moves before
going to New York. The biggest move was
sending Jarred Kelenic down to triple-A Tacoma.
Steven Sousa Jr a local player who almost
made the ballclub out of spring training was
recalled from Tacoma. Also, Mike Ford required
from the San Francisco Giants was activated too.
Both were in Friday night's game. Sousa in right
field and Ford at dh.
The Mariners still have three outfielders with Sousa
playing mostly right. Thursday general manager
Jerry Dipoto wasn't sure how long Mitch Haniger
will be out and when Kyle Lewis on rehab assignment
will be recalled. Dipoto would like Lewis to be totally
healthy to play in the field though spend time at dh as
well when he does return to the Mariners. Of course,
this will depend how the outfielders are hitting.
George Kirby will start Saturday for the Mariners. He
is native of New York state so he should have a lot of
fans in the stands. Go M's.
