The Mariners were blown away Friday
night 11-1 by the Houston Astros.
Most likely they were not going to win
anyway, since the Astros beat them a lot
in Houston and they were facing Justin Verlander
who they face in every series with Houston.
who they face in every series with Houston.
The good point they won't face Verlander
the rest of the regular
season. Mariners now have only
two games remaining against the
Astros. Hopefully the Mariners
make the playoffs but we hope
another team will beat them first.
The Mariners will brush off this game
and we hope the Astros offense runs
out of steam. The Mariners still break
even in the series.
What they can learn from the Astros
is have a good inning early on and
add on after that. The Astros maybe
the best team in.the American League
though the Yankees who the Mariners
play next are pretty good to.
The Mariners made a trade with the
Cincinnati Reds getting the best
starting pitcher available in Luis
Castillo. It did cost them two top
prospects in Marte and Arroyo. At
least they have depth at shortstop
in the minors and JP Crawford isn't
going anywhere else soon.
The Mariners are missing the
other Castillo who went onto
the ten days injured list. Hopefully
he will be able to return when the
Mariners come home.
With Luis Castillo will George Kirby
stay in the rotation or not? Will the
Mariners go to a six man rotation
or someone else be pumped. If
the Mariners do stay with five man
rotation either Kirby or another
starter could share time. I could see
Logan Gilbert who they want to watch
his innings kept down start and go
five innings. The Mariners could bring
in Kirby to pitch the final four innings.
In a tight game he could go three
innings and have Paul Sewald or
whoever pitch the ninth.
The Mariners should do well after
they finish with Yankees. They play
the Yankees at home as well as on this
trip in New York. No matter the success
or failure against the Yankees
they should know they can beat these
other teams.
The trading deadline ends on this
Tuesday coming up. Will they be able
to pick up a bat. They are still in the
sweepstakes for Juan Soto. Is that
a wise decision or not?
On Friday the Pac-12 had their media
day in Los Angeles. The Huskies were
picked sixth followed by the Cougars.
After last season I will take sixth.
Utah was picked to finish first like
last year followed by Oregon. USC
who had same record as the Huskies
have a new coach and a lot of transfers
to. They are picked third. UCLA is
fourth followed by Oregon State. The
Huskies do play UCLA this year but
not USC unless they both find their
way into the championship game.
With training camp beginning the
first week we will keep you up to
date on the Huskies and Cougars.
By the way the Cougars have a new
quarterback transfer Cameron Ward.
