Mariners Take Shortstop In First Round

For the second year in a row the
Seattle Mariners picked a high
school player in Cole Young a shorstop near Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. Last year they took catcher Harry Ford.

Cole is older than most high school
players turning 19 this month. If the Mariners sign him which they likely
will he probably go to the rookie
team in Arizona just like Ford. The
Mariners will have Cole take it easy
this year. The season is half over as
it is. Like Ford he probably play
at low A Modesto.

It will be interesting where he lands
among the Mariners top prospects.
Noelvi Marte the Mariners top prospect
who plays shortstop had a tough start
on the season is playing well now for
the Everett Aqua Sox. Marte isn't expected to stay at shortstop. He most
likely move to third base or the outfield. The Mariners do like versatility so when does make Mariners he may
play shortstop on occasion. Marte is
20 years old and likely to play at
double A Arkansas next year. How he
does next year will show when he makes it to Seattle. Will he be another
superstar like Julio we will see.

Young on the other hand is expected
to stay at shortstop. Like JP Crawford
is expected to play good defense.
Young hits left-handed but reminds
scouts more of a hitter in Mariners
Adam Frazier with a bit more pop.
Young isn't expected to be a home
run hitter but hit a lot of doubles. T
Mobile Park could be the place for
Young. How fast he makes will not
only be on him but how the minor
league coaches work with him.
Another key is to stay healthy.

Monday rounds 2 thru 10 will happen.
Most likely the Mariners will go after
more college pitchers. May take an outfielder and a catcher to. Tuesday
they will take even more pitchers.
You look at the draft players taken
in the eleventh through twenty rounds
making it to the majors are pitchers.
What the Mariners having coming
down the pike those who make it will be relievers. Example Penn Murfee
was a later round pick by the Mariners.
They turned him into a reliever after
beginning his career as a starter. Some
of these guys will be traded if they are
able to stay healthy. We wish them the
best.

This week we will again look at the
top prospects in the.Mariners farm
system at those currently eleven through thirty.  You have to figure
with this years draft they will lower
down for some of them.  The following
week we will look at the top ten whose
names are not George Kirby and Matt
Brash. Kirby expected back in the rotation after the all-star break. Most likely will face the Texas Rangers in
Seattle. Brash will likely still be in the
bullpen. 😎😎😎
