I am sure the Mariner fans are frustrating because the team
had a chance to win Thursday night but Mike Trout did them in once again. I
wonder if they should walk him every time when runners are on base even if it
loads the bases or brings in a run. The problem with it is that he is followed
by Albert Pujols who gets a lot of big hits against them as well.
The Los Angeles Angels took an early lead in the game with CJ
Cron hitting a home run off James Paxton in the first inning and then shortstop
Simmons hit a two run homer to make the score 3-0. The score kept that way
until the Mariners made their comeback in the eighth inning when Jean Segura
hit a solo homer and then Nelson Cruz hit a two-run homer to tie the score 3-3.
The sad news though James Paxton had to leave the game with
one out in the seventh inning because of an injury being called left pectoral
strain. They will have tests on him on Friday to see how serious it is. They
hope that he doesn’t have to miss a turn and go on the disabled list. Paxton is
hopeful that he wakes up Friday morning and he is fine; another tough time for
the Mariners starting rotation.
Besides the injury the frustration to was that the Angels won
the game scoring three times in the top of the ninth inning after they came
back to tie the game. Edwin Diaz started the ninth inning he did get two outs
however he walked three batters before facing Trout who hit a double to clear
the bases. I am sure a lot of fans wondered why the Mariners decided to bring
in Diaz in a situation where the game was tied and not save him for later if
needed for a save in extra innings. My question is why leave him in after
walking two batters and for sure three. With the two outs and the three runs
scored the Mariners brought in Tony Zych to finish off the inning. That could
be another question why not Zych start at the beginning of the ninth inning.
Another question that could be asked why not bring in Nick Vincent in the ninth
inning. He has been dominate and not given up a single run at Safeco Field all
season. I am sure that Servais answer would be that they wanted to save Vincent
for some of the other games in the series especially being ahead in the eighth
inning which would be a good answer.
Though we are frustrated by a comeback that ended up in
defeat the positive side the Mariners still have three games to play the Angels
on Edgar Martinez Weekend so big crowds will be at the game. We hope that the
Mariners can use the energy of the fans to go out and the series.
James Paxton was going for a team record eight straight wins.
I am not sure whether he is still being part of getting the record since he
didn’t lose the game.
Marco Gonzales makes his second start in place of Felix
Hernandez and we hope his first victory for the Mariners. He will be facing
Ricky Nolasco who has a record of 5-12 for the Angels. The Mariners should have
a really good chance tonight. Go M’s.
