Nelson Cruz Helps Sweep A’s

It was first Kyle Seager hitting a three run homer in the first inning to take a 3-0 lead and then Nelson Cruz two long home runs that drove in the other three for the 6-3 win over the Oakland A’s to take both games. Also the Mariners had a 6-3 record on this road trip and now coming home for seven against the Los Angeles Angels and the Baltimore Orioles. The Mariners should be in good shape if they can go 5-2 in these games before going back on the road.

The weekend series against the Angels will have a lot of spirit since the team will be retiring Edgar Martinez number.  Though the starting pitching may be so so outside of James Paxton if they can go along enough that the bullpen isn’t over used and the offense can score enough runs.

In other local sports the Seahawks will have their first pre-season game in four days at Los Angeles against the Chargers. Look forward to seeing running back Eddie Lacey who signed as a free agent and is competing with Thomas Rawls as the number one running back. Right now they look pretty close however Lacey at this point looks to be the starter. Also C.J. Prosise who primarily is the third down back however should see action as the feature back. Quarterback Russell Wilson is looking sharp and the injuries from last year isn’t affecting him at this time. His backup at this time is undetermined. At receiver it will be nice to see rookie David who may break camp as one of the five receivers on the squad. At this point the top four receivers should be Doug Baldwin, Tyler Lockett, Paul Richardson and Jermaine Kearse.  Neiko Thorpe right now is starting at cornerback across from Richard Sherman however rookie Shaquill Griffin is seeing a lot of action as well. It will be nice to see Earl Thomas in action at safety. The Seahawks missed him a lot when he was out at the end of last season and the playoffs. Probably the main reason that the Seahawks didn’t make it to the Super Bowl.

The defensive line it doesn’t look like top pick Malik McDowell will see any action this season after his accident a few weeks ago and he is on the reserve non-football injury list. Also his career could be in jeopardy as well though Coach Carroll is not ruling out that he may return. Look forward to see who gets into action on Sunday besides the regulars against the Chargers.  I am sure the 12th man has been hungry waiting for the Seahawks season to get underway. Go Hawks!
