Seahawks Beat at Home by Washington

It was another one of those tough games for the Seahawks at home against the Washington Redskins. I wouldn’t say it was a great offensive game like last Sunday against the Texans. Both teams defense played well for most of the game.

The game ended because the Redskins were able to score a late touchdown against the Seahawks with little time for them to be able to score themselves. This time the score ended 17-14.

Place kicker Blair Walsh missed three field goals in the first half. If he had made at least one of them they would have tied or made two they would have won. We could blame Walsh for the loss and I would not be surprised if the Seahawks bring in at least one field kicker to try out this week however the blame could go around.

First thing is that the Redskins played a very competitive game against the Seahawks. Throughout the game it was pretty tight. The Redskins defense was good especially in the red zone where the Seahawks have had trouble all season so you could blame the offense for that along with some penalties by the line. The defense who played outstanding throughout the first three quarters for the Seahawks didn’t do well in the fourth quarter especially against the Redskins on their final drive. The Seahawks were able to let the Redskins receivers get by them for long gains and then there was the final catch where the receiver caught the ball within the one yard line. The Seahawks probably should have allowed them to score there so that they had at least some extra time on the clock to help score themselves.

I wonder how much affect there was for the Seahawks without Earl Thomas not playing on Sunday. Most of the game they played well as I mentioned but the last drive might have been prevented a touchdown if Thomas had been in the game. Of course we will never know for sure.

The running game was better this week than last week though the Redskins were able to do a good job against it though the primary defense was the job they did against the receivers. Often the Seahawks receivers were not open. I am sure other teams will watch on how the Redskins play the pass on them. Eddie Lacy who started the game had to end up leaving in the third quarter because of an injury so Thomas Rawls did most of the running after that. I expect with one week under his belt Duane Brown should do even a better job next week in the Seahawks running game. The pass protection wasn’t as good as the week before since the Redskins were able get to Russell Wilson where he had to run some out of the pocket. In fact it was the next to last play that was very critical where he went down to the ground while trying to pass the ball. It was ruled a down play with four seconds left and then Russell had to throw a Hell Mary into the end zone where the ball went to the ground for the Redskins victory.

The Seahawks next game is on Thursday night against the Arizona Cardinals. We will preview that game before Thursday. Go Hawks.
