Once again the Washington Huskies
beat the Washington State Cougars in easy fashion 41-14. The score doesn’t
actually indicate how one sided the game actually was. The Huskies led the game
24-0 at half time and it could have been a bigger lead than that. The Cougars
scored both touchdowns in the fourth quarter when it looked like the Huskies
would shut them down.
This game reminded me of the Super
Bowl between the Seahawks and the Denver Broncos. The Huskies shut down the
mighty Cougars passing attack in the same way the Seahawks took care of Payton
Manning.
Most of the evening Luke Falk had a
hard time when trying to pass the ball; he threw two interceptions in the first
half along with being sacked four times. Things didn’t get any better for him
in the second half either.
The Huskies lost receiver/punt
returner Dante Pettis in the first quarter to an ankle injury and then lost
backup running back Coleman to another leg injury. Both of them are expected to
play in whatever bowl game the Huskies end up going to. With both of them out
running back Myles Gaskin did most of the work scoring four touchdowns and
running for almost two hundred yards in the game.
The Huskies defense especially with
the defensive line and the secondary did such an outstanding job. Often Falk
had some time but none of the receivers were opened so eventually the line was
able to sack him. This all shows what might have been if the Huskies had not
lost to Arizona State earlier in the season. They also lost to Stanford a
couple weeks ago however the Arizona State game was the big one to lose. Anyway
it has been a good season winning now ten games and sure beats losing all the
games or winning only a few.
In the NFL the Seattle Seahawks won
the road against the San Francisco 49ers. Not always easy for them on the road
however we are talking about the 49ers. Again the Seahawks started out slow
however picked it up in the second half. Russell Wilson was the man to get the
offense going while the defense played a solid game. The final score was 24-13
however the 49ers didn’t score their touchdown until the last play of the game.
The game was still up for either team until the fourth quarter. The Seahawks
had a lead of 14-6 going into the final quarter.
The rushing game was again a sore
spot for the Seahawks they only gained 90 yards on 30 attempts for an average
of three yards per carry. The passing game had a total of thirty-four attempts
so it was nearly fifty-fifty running and throwing the ball. A lot of that
happened to do with rain at the game. The 49ers only had three more plays than
the Seahawks in the game so that part was pretty even. It was nice to see the
secondary play a solid game on their second time without Richard Sherman and
Kam Chancellor. Next week will be the challenge facing the Philadelphia Eagles
in Seattle. The Eagles are having a pretty good season and should be favored in
the game. Have more details later in the week. So go Hawks.
