Ducks Drown in Seattle

The Oregon Ducks traveled to Seattle to take on the Washington Huskies Saturday night. The Ducks and Huskies have the strongest rivalry in the Northwest though the Beavers consider the Ducks their rivalry while the Cougars consider the Huskies theirs.

Primarily the Ducks have usually been the best team in Oregon though they have had rocky times where the Beavers have been the better team and that goes for the Huskies and the Cougars as well.

The Ducks dominated the Huskies for quite a few years beating them twelve years in a row after the Huskies were the team for quite a few years. Now the Huskies are at the top of the North division once again behind the coaching of Chris Peterson who came over from Boise State. Next week the Huskies take on Stanford in a tough match after they lost to the Cougars Saturday afternoon.

The Huskies now have been the Ducks two years in a row after such a drought. In 2016 the Huskies routed the Ducks 70-21 and then Saturday beat them not nearly as bad but still was an easy win 38-3. The Ducks actually scored first with the field goal and then the Huskies couldn’t be stopped after that. The Huskies had a 14-3 lead at half time and then they scored their first two times in the second half to take the game going away.

Punt return and wide receiver Dante Pettis scored his 9th punt return for a touchdown on Saturday. He now has the record for the most punt returns for a touchdown as a NCAA record. He scored a touchdown on a pass from Browning as well.

The Huskies dominated the Ducks on the ground. They ran the ball 39 times out of their 58 plays. Myles Gaskin let the Huskies rushing attack with 123 yards on seventeen carries and a touchdown. If you have any chance to beat the Huskies you have to stop them from running the ball. It sets up their passing game as well.

The Washington State Cougars had a tough outing as expected against the Stanford Cardinal winning by a field goal 24-21. The Cardinal had the lead 21-17 going midway in the fourth quarter when Cougar quarterback Luke Falk led them on a 94 yard drive ending with a touchdown at 6:56 mark left in the game. So the Cougar defense had to keep things up so the Cardinal couldn’t score a touchdown or tie the game with a field goal. Falk actually broke the passage yardage by a quarterback in the Pac-12. Also the Cougars end their season at Martin Stadium in Pullman Washington with a perfect record of 7-0. Depending how things go the rest of the way the Cougars and Huskies could be playing for the Pac 12 north division title in the Apple Cup. The winner likely will face the south division title winner for the Pac 12 championship.

In the NFL the Seattle Seahawks take on the Washington Redskins in Seattle Sunday afternoon. The Seahawks will have newly acquired Duane Brown playing at left tackle. Eddie Lacy is expected to start at running back for the Seattle and take most of the carries.  Thomas Rawls struggle last week so the Seahawks decided to give Lacy the chance to run the ball well with the help of Brown.

When it comes to injuries the Seahawks will be without free safety Earl Thomas. Whatever the case the Seahawks seem to struggle without Thomas in the lineup; the way the game went last week the Seahawks shouldn’t give up so many points. If the Seahawks do give up more than thirty points against the Redskins Russell Wilson and offense will have to do their magic wand once again. So best to the Seahawks today; go Hawks!!
