Seahawks Offense Coming Up

Saturday the Seahawks play their first pre-season against the Chiefs in Kansas City. If you happen to go to the game remember to get some good Kansas City barbeque.

We all have no question about the defense of the Seahawks though we won’t see the normal during this game because a lot of backup players will be playing. The offense on the other hand we have no idea where it is going because of the line. We know that the wide receivers will be good starting with Doug Baldwin, Jermaine Kearse, Tyler Lockett and probably Jimmy Graham playing some as well as tight end. We are not sure who will be the starting running back though it will likely be Thomas Rawls if he is ready to go. Christine Michael or Alex Collins could start depending on who stays healthy. Because of his experience I would not be surprised if Michael gets the nod. I am sure we will see both Michael and Collins a lot in the first game since most of the running backs are ailing; another choice maybe George Farmer who was recently switched over from cornerback back to running back to play a backup role. We do hope that one of the rookies that are expected to play will get back into action.

The big question once again is the offensive line. One thing we do know is that there will be five new starters along the line with two possibly playing different positions. Garry Gilliam we know is switching from the right tackle over to left tackle while Justin Britt is getting a chance at center. Whether he stays at center is any ones guess at this time. In any case he will be one of the starting five. Another thing we know that the Seahawks will take the best nine into the season though we don’t know exactly where they will play except Gilliam.

So what do I see as the problem with the offensive line. Well last year it took Russell Wilson and the offensive almost half of the season before gelling. In my opinion it was not pretty sight since he had to run around a lot. I just hope this doesn’t happen again this year. It would be nice by the opening game of the season the offense can play decent. I don’t expect them to be at the top of their game at the beginning but it would be nice to be somewhere near. It would be great whoever the running backs are they can playing well. I am sure that is not a problem at all. I hope that Russell Wilson will be able to get the ball to the receivers instead of running all over the place. We do know that he will pick up some first downs because of his ability to run but I hope not for a lot of sacks. Also it would be nice to pick up some first downs off of a third down situation instead of having to deal with kicking a field goal instead of a touchdown. I am sure everyone knows what I mean.

I am sure we will see Russell Wilson at quarterback for the first quarter. It will be interesting to see Trevon Boykin playing his first time likely in the second and third quarters. He is a rookie so it is important that the coaching staff sees him in action so they have to decide whether to go out and get a veteran to backup Wilson.

Local high school standout Jake Heaps we will likely see in the fourth quarter. I know watching the first quarter is exciting to see because we get to see the starters back in action for the first time in six months. I always look forward to seeing the second string especially on the offense side of the ball at quarterback, running back and receiver. This is true with the rookies that we may never see again. Of course hard to remember the names of those who came through in the past.

The rookies to see on the defense side are really nice to see as well. Of course the offensive line we don’t watch much unless we are able to see some on replays. I call them the unforgotten bunch unless the quarterback is sacked. In the meantime enjoy the first game of pre-season if you care at all. So let’s enjoy Blue Friday and Go Seahawks!
