Mariners Win in 15th Inning

I am not sure how many watched or listen to the very end of the Mariners game Tuesday night against the Detroit Tigers. I have to admit that I fell asleep in the eleventh inning however I did wake up to hear the last inning on the radio.

Actually I woke up when Victor Martinez hit a solo home run off of Ariel Maranda who is scheduled to start for the Mariners in Oakland against the A’s. I guess we will see who will start on Friday. Since he only pitched one inning I would still go with Maranda as the starter. I am sure that Paxton won’t be ready to go because of his elbow.

The game Tuesday night started in a familiar way lately where the Tigers scored three runs in the first inning. Both teams each scored a run to make it 4-1 in favor of the Tigers. The Mariners had a chance to go ahead in the sixth inning when they had the bases loaded. Cruz, Lind and Seager all were up but were unable to succeed. In fact Lind and Seager each hit foul balls that were close to being home runs before making outs.

In the eighth inning though with runners on second and third Seager did hit a home run to tie the game that led to the game going fifteen innings.

In the bottom of the fifteenth inning after Victor Martinez home run Nelson Cruz walked with one run then went to second on a single by Adam Lind. Cruz came home to tie the game on a single by Seager. Lind went to third when left fielder Justin Upton bobbled the ball on Seager’s hit to tie the game. Mike Zunino who was up next hit a fly ball to center that was deep enough for Adam Lind to score and give the Mariners fifth win a row making the final score 6-5.

Right now the Mariners are carrying eleven pitchers because of Tuesday’s game I am sure they will look to add another pitcher to the roster on Wednesday. Whether that will be a starter to pitch on Friday or a relief pitcher to go on Wednesday we will find out. I expect that they will bring up a relief pitcher for Wednesday’s game and then possibly bring up a starter to go on Friday.

Ketel Marte came off the disabled list to start at shortstop on Tuesday night. All the position players though got into the game on Tuesday. There is a possibility that Shawn O’Malley may start at shortstop on Wednesday since it was a long game however with Thursday being an off-day Marte may start anyway.

Wednesday night the Mariners will be going for a second sweep in a row and six wins in a row. If the Mariners can win the game they will then be only a half-game behind the Tigers for the wild card race. Felix Hernandez will be pitching for the Mariners while Justin Verlander will go for the Tigers. Go M’s.
