Seahawk Wednesday

Head coach Pete Carroll says a major problem with
the Seattle Seahawks defense is execution. This is
especially true in the backfield.

The Seahawks the worst team defensively in the NFL
despite having a 6-2 record there was concern about
how the team was not getting to the quarterback when
it came to sacks. The last couple weeks improved
on sacks but higher total of yards passing came about.

Does the Seahawks need to go back to the way they
were playing defense with less sacks but lower number
of yards though it wasn't great. We will see how the
team figures it all out.

The Seahawks having several injuries at the defensive
back position are expected to lose cornerback Quinton
Dunbar this week Dunbar didn't look good last Sunday
against Buffalo. We have to see who plays in his spot
this Sunday.

The running back position hasn't been to good as of
late either with injuries mounting. The Seahawks added
former Seahawk Alex Collins to the squad last week.
Collins played a little against the Bills. In all the Seahawks
ran 57 yards in Buffalo.

Though Russell Wilson has played well for the most
part the Seahawks running game has to improve so
the turnovers don't amount further. There isn't any
word whether Chris Carson will be activated this
week.

The Seahawks added another former Seahawk running
back to the squad. This time Bo Scarbrough was added
to the practice squad for depth purposes.

The Seahawks play the LA Rams on the road this
Sunday followed by Arizona at home on Thursday.
With the injuries the Seahawks have had the question
I have what good is it for the Seahawks play on Thursday.
The only positive news they will have ten days off
after playing Arizona. So those who don't play on Thursday
will have chance to get back to action.

The Seahawks schedule does get easier but do hope they
can get healthy at the same time.

The Seahawks have a game lead going into Sunday over
the Rams and the Cardinals. If the Rams beat the Seahawks
and the Cardinals beat the Buffalo Bills at home on Sunday
there will be a three way tie going into Thursday's game.
Go Hawks!

Seahawks Lose Cougars Win

I mentioned before I wouldn't be surprised if the Seahawks
would lose in Buffalo against the Bills. Sadly I was right.

The final score was Buffalo 44 Seattle 34

The trouble was the Seahawks couldn't stop the Bills from
scoring and they had four turnovers that help the Bills score
as well.

The defense is still having trouble keeping the other team
from scoring. The Seahawks may have a 6-2 record at this
point but unless they can improve the defense they won't
win the Super Bowl most likely.

The Seahawks probably will make the playoffs and win their
division; however, the ultimate goal is to win the Super Bowl.
They don't have to have the best defense but  they do need one
that can stop the other team to some degree. When the offense
is running well then they will win but when the offense isn't
doing as well no win.

The Washington State Cougars beat the Oregon State Beavers
on Saturday night 38-28. Both teams had a rough start  not able
to get going in the first quarter. The Cougars scored on their
third time having the ball on a long pass by freshman quarterback
Jayden de Laura when the Beavers defense broke down.

Jayden de Laura  ended up completing 18 of 33 passes for 227
yards and two touchdowns. I expect he will do better since he
was making his college debut.  Often de Laura passed outside
the pocket. This could have a lot to do with Beavers defense
as well.

The Cougars will take on the Oregon Ducks next Saturday
afternoon. The Ducks are ranked # 11  beating Stanford on
Saturday 35-14. Oregon will be coming to WSU to take on
the Cougars.  Jayden de Laura will have to do much better
especially at the beginning of the game for the Cougars to
have any chance.

Oregon State will be going to Seattle to take on the Washington
Huskies. It will be the Huskies first game since the opening game
against California Golden Bears was cancelled because of  a
player being tested for covid-19 for the Golden Bears.

Oregon State will have to do better next week as well. They
will be taking on one of the best passing defenses in the Pac-12.
The Beavers best chance will be running the ball to start out
the game. If they can't run the ball it will be a tough game for
them to win.

The Seahawks announced Head Coach has signed an extension
to his contract so it looks like he will be around Seattle until
2025. Good news to the 12th man. Go Hawks!

Washington Huskies and Cal Game Cancelled

It was announced on Thursday the Washington Huskies
game at Berkeley against the California Golden Bears
was cancelled because one of the players on California
was tested positive for covid-19.

At this point the game will not be made up. So the Huskies
will now be down to five games on the season.

If I were the Huskies I would not play a single freshman
on the team in any of the five games to keep their eligibility
for four full seasons.

I wonder if another game is cancelled and they only play
four games whether all the players who wish to play will
be granted another year if they haven't redshirted before.
The NCAA rule you can redshirt players who have played
in four or less games.

Next Saturday Night the Huskies will be at home to take on
the Oregon State Beavers. The game starts at 8 pm. The
Beavers take on the Washington State Cougars on this Saturday
night. We will see how that goes.

In other sports news locally, First baseman Evan White and
shortstop JP Crawford were both won the gold glove in the
American League for their defense at their perspective position.
Not a big surprise for White though I was surprised by Crawford
winning the award. I  am sure we will see  more awards for
gold glove from White. We hope the same for Crawford. Shows
how improved the Mariners defense was over this last season.

Now next up see who general manager Jerry Dipoto can snag
in free agency and who he can pick up in trades.

Seahawk Wednesday

This coming Sunday the Seahawks play the Bills
in Buffalo. We hope there isn't any snow like it
would be if we were playing in another month
in Buffalo.

The Bills are 6-2 leading the AFC East division.
Their division maybe the worst in the NFL or
close to the NFC East anyway.

The Bills beat the New England Patriots at home
24-21. This isn't the Patriots team you know and
love. lol

The Seahawks had seven inactive players against
the 49ers one more than the required six because
of injuries. The Seahawks hope someone will be
able to play this week who didn't last Sunday.

There is a good possibility rookie DeeJay Dallas
will have to start again with Chris Carson and
Carlos Hyde probably still out. We hope that
Jamal Adams can return to safety this week.

Rookie Stephen Sullivan was activated off
the practice squad and took 22 snaps at
defensive end. Oh by the way he was drafted
as a tight end.

Carson could play this week if he is able to
respond on practice by Friday. Adams is the
only other player they hope to return this week.

We hope the Seahawks defense can respond by
getting a little better. It would be nice so when
playoff time comes they will be ready. The
Seahawks being champions will come from
the offense for the most part but becoming
somewhere in the middle for the defense as
far as the NFL goes would be nice.

Seahawks Back On Track

The Seattle Seahawks beat rival San Francisco 49ers
on Sunday November 1 at home 37-27.

The game was close in the first half the Seahawks
leading 13-7 on two touchdowns by DK Metcalf.

The 49ers had the first possession of the second
half, however, the Seahawks defense were able
to stop them so they had to punt.

The first possession of the second half the Seahawks
were able to score a touchdown on nine plays.
Rookie running back DeeJay Dallas scored his first
career touchdown on a two-yard pass from Russell
Wilson.

The 49ers ended up fumbling the ball on the kick off
where the Seahawks recovered the fumble. The
Seahawks scored on the sixth play of the drive on
a touchdown pass for six yards by David Moore
from Russell Wilson making the score 27-7.

The Seahawks ended up kicking a 48 yard field goal
by Meyers near the beginning of the 4th quarter making
it 30-7.

49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo had to leave the
game so he was replaced by backup QB Nick Mullens.
The 49ers ended up scoring on the fourteen play of the
drive on a running play making it 30-14. Mullens threw
11 passes during that drive.

The Seahawks were not able to go far having to punt
after six plays. The 49ers got the ball back after the
ball went into the end zone.

It took the 49ers six plays to go down the field to score
a touchdown to make it an interesting game They attempted
a two-point conversion but was not converted after a
replay was shown as it was ruled a conversion before hand.
This made the score 30-20.

The 49ers tried an onside kick however, the Seahawks
recovered the ball. Will Dissly recovered the ball on the
San Francisco's 47 yard line. It took the Seahawks eight
plays to score another touchdown. DeeJay Dallas ran
for a yard to make his first running touchdown of his
career after scoring on a pass earlier for his first touchdown
of his career.

The 49ers would not give up scoring another touchdown
on the 8th play of the drive making Seattle 37 San Francisco 27.

Russell Wilson completed 27 passes on 37 attempts for 261
yards and four touchdowns. Receiver DK Metcalf led the
Seahawks with 12 receptions 161 yards and two touchdowns.
DeeJay Dallas led the Seahawks in rushing with 41 yards.

On the defensive side Bobby Wagner led the Seahawks with
11 tackles including two sacks. The Seahawks now go next
Sunday to Buffalo to take on the Bills. Go Hawks!

The 49ers tried another onside kick since it was the only chance
they had to win the game however the Seahawks recovered this
one as well. The Seahawks ran out the clock.

Another good victory by the Seahawks thought the defense
again showed they need more help. They did improvement
on rushing the quarterback. Much of San Francisco's passing
yardage happened when they were down.

Seahawks vs 49ers and more

Sunday afternoon in Seattle the Seahawks will be
taking on the San Francisco 49ers. Second week
in a row the Seahawks take on a division foe.

Last Sunday night the Seahawks lost in overtime
to Arizona in a game they should have won but
lost in overtime on a field goal.

This week the 49ers will look to run the ball over
the Seahawks. The Seahawks defense will have
to be ready to be tough in stopping the 49ers offense.

It makes sense the 49ers in running the ball since
they have a better running attack then passing the
ball plus it will allow them to keep the ball out of
the hands of the Seahawks.

Usually when they do the coin flip the Seahawks
win the flip they allow the opposing team having
the ball initially then the Seahawks will be able
to have the ball at the beginning of the Seahawks.
I wonder if they will do the same this time when
winning the flip or take the ball first so the offense
can score first before the 49ers have the ball.

The idea might be to lose the flip. Of course, the
49ers could do the same thing allowing the Seahawks
with the ball first. We will see won't we.

In baseball, the Mariners released Dee Strange-Gordon
this week. Kendall Graveman the Mariners declined his
option as well, however, they turned around signed him
to a new deal. Graveman will be back next season being
in the Mariner bullpen.

The Mariners are close to their rebuilding so it will be
critical to have a good bullpen. It was a part of the team
this last season not doing well while the starting pitching
was fine along with the position players. Of course, the
starting pitching needs to continue improving along with
the position players

It is time to bring in at least three relievers by either free
agency or trade. Also, bringing up a couple relievers from
the minor leagues.  With the signing of Graveman means
one or two relievers from last season's team remaining.

The Mariners plan to go with a six-man rotation again so
it means seven or eight relievers. The Mariners will need
to add to their outfield as Kyle Lewis was the only true
outfielder with success this past season. Mallex Smith was
a disaster so he won't be  returning. He isn't on the 40-man
roster so he will sign with another team or be invited as
a minor leaguer to training camp.

The Mariners should be making a move today to add
Mitch Haniger, Tom Murphy and Andres Munoz to
the 40-man roster as they are all on the 60-day injured
list. Currently the Mariners have 32 players on their
roster..

Washington Huskies Men's Basketball Schedule

This week the schedule came out for the Washington
Huskies men's basketball team for the upcoming season.

The schedule right now only shows who they will be
playing in the Pac-12. The original non-league schedule
was cancelled because of Covid-12.

The Pac-12 schedule usually starts at the beginning of
the year. They have had 18 games on the schedule, however,
now have increased to 20. This allows them the opportunity
to play most of the teams in the league twice once at home
and once on the road.

I thought the schedule would begin as usual at the beginning
of the year, however, the Huskies will begin the schedule
on December 3 at Utah followed by Oregon on December 12
at home. They look to be the two additional games. The rest
of the schedule shows who they play and what week but not
the exact date. This will be determined by the television
schedule since all the games will be on television.

The rest of the schedule will begin on the week of December
30 thru January 3 when they take on Arizona and Arizona State
at home. The following two weeks they will be on the road
playing the California Golden Bears and Stanford Cardinal
in the bay area followed by UCLA and USC.

The two teams they will not play twice on the season will
be Colorado who partners on each week's schedule with Utah
and Oregon State partners with Oregon.

Since there will be a gap after the Oregon game in December
the likelihood is the Huskies will have  non-league games.
There is an indication they will play Portland State, Fullerton,
and Seattle University at home along with a unknown team
at this time. The dates haven't been determined as of yet.

So it looks like Huskies men's schedule will be 24 games on
the season. Whether there will be any fans in the stands will
be determined where covid-19 is at the time and what each
state has determined. Right now at home the Huskies will
probably play without fans or a very few.

Like all the other sports and our lives right now it will be
different for sure.

Mariners Offense Struggles Again
