at home 6-2 after early in the day
they traded Paul Sewald to the
Arizona Diamondbacks who they had
just beat in the series over the weekend.
The Mariners received three players
back from Arizona. Veteran infielder Josh
Rojas, outfielder/first baseman Dominic
Canzone and double A infield prospect
Ryan Bliss. Rojas likely will be added
to the major league roster. He can play third, short and second. He is batting
.228 in 59 games and no home runs
this year. Bats left handed as does Canzone. We could see him play some
second and third base.
Canzone made his major debut with
Diamondbacks on July 8. At triple A
Reno he was hitting .354 with 16
home runs so he hss some power.
Bliss is a right handed hitter. He had
played short but recently played more
second base. At double A he hit
.358 with 12 home runs. He was
playing at Reno when the trade
happened. Batting only .198 in
13 games. Most likely will be
playing for Tacoma. A youngster
at 23 he could be the Mariners
second baseman next year. We
will have to see. Be a good trade
if all three end up playing for
the Mariners. Could still be if one
becomes a starter and has success.
The Red Sox a run in the first inning
with a couple Mariners errors. Cal Raleigh
hit a home run to tie the game in the
second. The score stayed that way
until the 7th inning when Cal hit
his second homer of the game.
In the eighth inning the Mariners scored
four runs including a hit to right
field by Julio driving in two runs.
He later scored a run himself on a hit
that didn't go far by Teoscar Hernandez.
The game became interesting with two
outs and the Diamondbacks scored off
reliever Isaiah Campbell had come in.
He was struggling a but when a ball
was hit that looked a hit happening
to make it more interesting, however
JP Crawford dove and did a flip at
the same time to get the last out of the
game. Originally it looked like Andre
Munoz who pitched and struck out one
batter in the 8th would return for the
9th until the Mariners scored the four runs
The Mariners made a deal sending outfielder AJ Pollock and Tacoma
infielder Mark Mathias along with
cash considerations to the San Francisco
Giants for cash considerations or a
player to be named later. Pollock had
a disappointing season until recently
went on the injured list. Expected he
would be coming off the injured list
made sense to deal him and added
Mathias to sweeten the deal.
The Mariners will take on the Red Sox again
Bryce Miller is expected to start tomorrow
night. With the trade looming tomorrow
afternoon we could see another trade
or two.
In other local sports news the PAC 12
which now become nine next year
before adding any new teams to the
conference. The news is the Pac12 or
9 or whatever will have media deal in place
by Wednesday. So we know more
soon. Until next time.
