Mariners Lose Middle Game

Not a big surprise however the Mariners
lost middle game of series on the road
to the A's.

Logan Evans a rookie pitcher for the
Mariners gave up four of his six runs
in the third inning. A key there is that
three were on a home run. He gave
up two more in the fifth inning. He
was lifted then with two outs. The
trouble with the starting rotation is
giving up home runs.

Carlos Vargas came in went one
additional inning besides getting
the final in the fifth. He did fine
however he leads the Mariners in
appearances and I am afraid he
he will lose  his effectiveness or
injure his arm.

Jackson Kowar pitched the last two
innings and didn't give up a hit.
Kowar was recently called up again
from triple A Tacoma.  He missed
all of 2024. I would like to see more
of him and less of Vargas right now.
I would like to see Vargas pitch two
games a week at the most.

There is talk that the Mariners are
looking to acquire a reliever before
the deadline on Thursday afternoon.
The thought would be someone
who mix in with Matt Brash and
Andre Munoz late in games.
Depend on usage he could pitch
the seventh inning as well as
the 8th of 9th inning.

The final A's 6 Mariners 1

The highlight of the Mariners one
run was Randy Arozarena stealing
second base then scoring on a
hit by Polanco.. Arozarena steal
was his 20th of the season and
now he has stolen at least 20 bases
along with at least 20 home runs
in five straight seasons.

News came out that Tyler Locklear
had been lifted from Tacoma's lineup.
Speculation was what it has to do
with the Mariners. We will know
more today. Does that mean he will
be activated on the roster and who
is leaving by being traded, released
or sent down.

The recent trade the Mariners
acquired Josh Naylor who is
playing first base as does Locklear
So the idea thought of Locklear
would dh and play first base  when
Naylor is not. So who will leave then.
The natural thinking would be Donavan
Solano who has played first base
against lefties would be released.
He can play third and second base
as well.

Who would the Mariners trade. The
most likely would be either outfielder
Luke Raley or utility Dylan Moore.
Mostly likely if either is traded the
Mariners may have to include a
prospect too. Stay tuned and see
what happens. Go M's.

UW Huskies and WSU Heading Into New Season

Now the new year as the Huskies and
the Cougars head into their second
season not in the old Pac-12.

Last week the Huskies were listed to
finish tenth place in the Big Ten.  Is
this the right place or will they do
better under head coach Jedd Finch.
I believe they should do better this
time around.

Finch for one knows more what to do
this time around. The Big Ten is a
physical conference so I could see
the offense to play more physical and
the defense as well. I expect his
play calling should be better. The
question might be on the defense
since they have newcomers along
with the coaching too. We will see
how it all works out.  I hope the Huskies
will surprise them.

The Cougars are under new head coach
Jimmy Rodgers and the Pac-12 is technically
only them and the Oregon State Beavers
this season. Next year they will have an
eight teams conference.

They play 12 games with three where they
are favorites. Those are Idaho, San Diego
State and Louisiana State.  Five games are toss ups and four are underdogs like in the
Apple Cup against the Huskies. The Cougars
could be a team that 6-6 or  7-5 or 5-7.

We will have to see how both the Huskies
and Cougars turn out. I hope we will be
pleasant surprised. Go Dawgs and Cougs.

Mariners Beat A's Monday

Mariners beat A's  3-1
Luis Castillo went seven innings.
Gave up five hits and no walks.
The Mariners don't win many games
like this however a good one.

Josh Naylor had his first home
run for the Mariners on the first pitch
in the second inning. He scored again
on a sacrifice fly by Mitch Garver.
Cal Raleigh drove  in Ben Williamson
for  the third run.

A good way to start this series. We
hope more offense on Tuesday. Good
news they are now three games behind
the Astros in American League West
division.

Mariners End Up With Split

The Mariners lost Sunday afternoon
4 to 1.

I was mostly disappointed that they
didn't win when Ichiro was Inducted
into the baseball Hall of Fame.

The Mariners had only two hits on
the day. Cal Raleigh had his 41st
home run of the season in the 7th
inning . Josh Naylor had the other hit.

The Angels had all four runs in the
5th inning off of starter Logan Gilbert.
Two of the runs were off of a home
run by Mike Trout who has more
home runs  then anyone when facing
the Mariners.  It was the only one of
this series though.

The Mariners play three against the A's
in Sacramento Monday thru Wednesday.
They come home to play the Texas Rangers
Thursday thru Sunday. We hope some
good success.

Mariners Win Ichiro Gets Inducted

The Seattle Mariners Saturday night
rolled over the Los Angeles Angels
7-2.

George Kirby didn't have his A game
starting however was able to go
six innings and giving up the two
runs. He walked the unusual three
batters and hit one as well. He did
strike out nine though.

The Angels scored first on a Taylor
Ward home run in the second inning
then Julio Rodriguez tied it the third
inning with a home run of his own.
It was his 4th of the series in three
games. He loves hitting in Anaheim.

The Mariners took the lead in the
4th with red hot Randy Arozarena
hitting a solo home run. The Angels
tied in the 5th. Cal Raleigh hit his
40th of the season in the 6th and
Mariners scored three more times.

It became bizarre after Arozarena
walks. He steals second base then
the home plate umpires sends him
back to first because Josh Naylor
wasn't in the batters box or that is
what the umpire thought. It became
a heated discussion between the
home plate umpires and M's manager
Dan Wilson. It was a surprise he wasn't
kicked out. After being settled Arozarena
stole second again. Naylor walked.
The Angels changed pitchers and Jorge
Polanco walked too. Mitch Garver popped
out however Dominic Canzone hits a
single to score Arozarena and Naylor.
Polanco went to third.

Ben Williamson striked out then JP hit
a grounder to second baseman and it
bizzare to as Canzone could have been
tagged however the second baseman
tried to get JP instead at first but the
throw was late and Polanco scored.
Julio grounded out to end the inning.

There was no scoring after that.
Trent Thornton pitched the 7th
and 8th inning. The 7th was easy
however the Angels had two hits
in the 8yh however Thornton got
out of hit with a double play. Carlos
Vargas pitched the 9th throwing
only five pitches.

Sunday is a big day for the Mariners
fans and all of Japan as Ichiro gets
Inducted into the baseball Hall of Fame
in Cooperstown New York. Ichiro was
the first Japanese position player to
play in the major leagues. He played
in Japan until he was 27 years old.
In the major leagues he was able to
get over 3000 hits which is always a
big accomplishment and with his hits
in Japan he has more hits than anyone
combining both in Japan and in the
majors.

Ichiro was not only an accomplished
hitter he was pretty good defensive
player as well with a cannon of an
arm. It would take pages here if we
added up all his accomplishments
in the majors as well as Japan.
We thank you Japan for us especially
Mariners fans to see Ichiro in action.

The induction starts mid morning in
Seattle on Sunday however very
early Monday in Japan. May everyone
enjoy it along with the other players
being Inducted. Go Ichiro.  ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Some Changes In Seahawks Camp

The Seahawks have made a few
changes going on in camp though
they just started.

This is going on the offensive side
right now. We could see on defense
as time goes by.

Right before camp Noah Fant was
released at tight end. AJ Barner a
rookie is listed as the starter now.
This year's second rounder Elijah Arroyo
is number number. Brady Russell
who played sparingly last year at
tight end and announced as switching
to fullback in the new offense has
taken some reps at tight end as well.

Head coach Mike MacDonald says
that they like Russell's catching
ability so why he is taking reps
at tight end however the plan is
to still use him at fullback as the
backup.  Sounds he could be used
at either position to the catch
the ball.

At center right now it looks like
Jalen Sundell could be the starter.
For one thing he is comfortable
playing alongside first round pick
Grey Zabel at left guard. They both
played together at North Dakota
State. Right guard Christian Haynes
has taken snaps there too. Last year
it seemed like he was a disappointment
as a rookie not playing more at right
guard. Now we have to wonder whether
Olu Oluwatini drafted in the fifth round
in 2023 and played center much of the
second half of the season will stick
around or are the Seahawks want to
see the best combination to make it
a better offensive line we find out.
Go Hawks.

Mariners Lose In Extra Innings

Both starters for the Mariners and Angels
did a good job Friday night going six
innings and giving up two runs.

Julio Rodriguez was the Mariners
offense hitting two solo home runs.
The first one in the top of the first
inning. Angels scored two runs in
the first inning to take the lead.
Julio's second was in the sixth
inning. Both teams relievers
were able not give up a run in
regulation.

Though they had the opportunity
the Mariners couldn't score in the
top of the tenth and the Angels
were able to get a walk off.

What was tough and terrible was
the home plate umpires strike zone
or lack of it. There were several
pitches called balls when they were
nearly down the middle of the
plate.  This could have made the
difference as well. Go M's.

Mariners Beat Angels and More

Thursday  night the Seattle Mariners beat
the Los Angeles Angels 4-2. As I have said
winning the opening game of a series is
important. A four game series maybe more.

The Angels scored first in the first inning.
Mike Trout got his only hit in the first
inning a double then scored. The Mariners
walked him three times which was a
good thing.

Logan Evans starting went five innings
giving up the one run.

The Mariners scored three runs in the
fifth inning with Julio Rodriguez home
run to tie the game and then Randy
Arozarena hit a two-run homer. In the 8th
inning Jorge Polanco hit the third home
run.

Carlos Vargas who has struggled lately
was the second reliever in the game.
Gabe Speier came in for Vargas and
got the third out. Brash and Munoz
finished up.

News came out before the game
that the Mariners got Josh Naylor
from the Arizona Diamondbacks
to play first base and maybe some
dh. Now we see who no longer be
on the roster. Luke Raley will likely
be out in the outfield. He and Dominic
Canzone will be in right field. Of
course if they are not moved with
Naylor acquisition. Naylor might
be in Anaheim Friday or Saturday.

The Diamondbacks received left
hander pitcher Brandyn Garcia
who made two appearances
recently for the Mariners. They
got right handed pitcher Ashton
Izzi who was at Everett. He is the
Mariners #16 prospect. We wish
the two the best to their new future.

Will the Mariners pick up another
bat before the trading deadline
or pick up a reliever. A veteran
reliever who could step in with
Matt Brash and Andre Munoz.
Pitch seventh thru the ninth.
Vargas has been pitching a lot
this year so it would be nice if
he could pitch less often. Go M's.

Seahawks Running Game

The Seattle Seahawks trading camp
for the next season started on
Wednesday.

Right tackle Abe Lucas said in media
interview that they knew since June
that the running game was going to
be the influence in the offense. He
says it easier to block for running
when it is the priority over the passing
game.

The tackle spots are settled while center
and right guard will have competition.
Left guard will be maned by first round
pick Grey Zabel.

AJ Barner is now the starting tight end
with the release of Noah Fant. This year's
second rounder Elijah Arroyo will be number
two.

With the new running attack the competition
could be between Ken Walker lll and Zach
Charbonnet at running back. They have added a fullback position to.

We will let you know how camp goes.
The Seattle Mariners start a four game
series against the Angels in Anaheim
California on Thursday. Go M's.

Brewers Take Series

Wednesday afternoon the Milwaukee
Brewers beat the Mariners 10- 2.
They have won 22 out of their last
thirteen games. Tuesday's loss
ended a 11 game winning streak.

Both teams scored two runs in
the second inning. The Brewers
scored three in the fourth followed
by one in the 5th and sixth. The 7th
blew open with three more runs.

Luis Castillo went five innings giving
up six runs however three were
unearned. JP Crawford haf. an error.
Trent Thornton pitched the sixth
and 7th inning giving up four runs.
He isn't pitching as well as last year.

The Brewers played small ball having
a few doubles and a lot of singles.
The Mariners could learn from that.
Let's get a good bat.

Rainiers Beat Round Rock

The Tacoma Rainiers beat Round Rock
Tuesday night at home 12-7. The
Rainiers the Mariners triple A team
got off to a slow start on the season
however now second place in the Pacific
Coast League West division.

With the trading deadline coming up
soon at the end of July the Rainiers
could have a few players. Most notably
catcher Harry Ford who is hitting .291
with nine home runs and 50 rbis.
With Cal Raleigh being the Mariners
starter at catcher there is no room
to start for the Mariners anytime soon.

First baseman Locklear has two home
runs on Tuesday night giving him 16
homers along with 77 rbis. He has a
.323 batting average as well. He bats
right handed so currently Donovan
Solano is the guy ahead of him. The
Mariners could put him in trade package
as well.

The Rainiers have four other players
who had some playing time this season
with the Mariners do they could be in
a trade package as well.

Though these guys could be dealt
the other teams will look at those
in double A and the single A teams
first. If they want pitching  where
they could see someone on the
big club next year likely double A
would be it.

The Mariners drafted 13 pitchers
in the MLB draft the Sunday and
Monday before the All-star game.
So a lot of talent there and other
teams know the Mariners develop
pitchers really well

The Mariners are expected to make
at least one trade for a bat. They
might look for a veteran reliever
too. Stay tuned the next ten days
it so might be exciting. Go M's.

Mariners Shutout Brewers Tuesday Night

The Seattle Mariners beat the Milwaukee
Brewers Tuesday night 1-0.

This tied the series at 1 and 1
Tomorrow's game is in the afternoon.

Logan Gilbert was able to go six and
one-thirds innings. Since coming back
after going on injured list. Left with
a standing ovation Logan struck out
ten and had no walks. He gave up
only two hits of the game.

The Mariners bullpen did the not allow
a run  in the game

Cal Raleigh hit his 39 home run of the but
Season.

This ended the 11 game winning for the
Brewers.

The  Houston Astros won to 3-1ll

.

Brewers Shut Out Mariners

Monday night was game one
against the Milwaukee  Brewers.
They are here for three games.

The Brewers won 6-0 on Monday
night. Right now they are tough
to face as this game was the
eleventh win a row for the Brewers.

George Kirby went six innings
for the Mariners. He gave up four
runs all in the sixth inning.
The other two runs were in the
eighth inning.

The Mariners had only five hits
in the game. The Mariners need
to do much better to beat the
Brewers.

The Mariners need to look to
pick up a player or two by the
trading deadline at the end of
July.  Go M's.
.

Seahawks Cut Tight End

Just as training is about to start the Seahawks released starting tight
end Noah Fant on Monday.

They tried to trade him however it looks like
no takers.  Fant would have cost the
Seahawks $9 million against the cap
if he was on the team. We wish him
the best to hook up with another team.

The Seahawks offense is expected to
go to the running game. Besides his
salary I am sure they might be
concerned about his blocking.

The Seahawks could look to acquire
a veteran tight end. The Seahawks
offense has added  fullback. Both
fullbacks are former tight ends.
If the Seahawks go in formation
with three tight ends one of the
full backs  could be one of them.
They could add another lineman
too.

The Seahawks could go with just
two tight ends and two full backs.
They could a third tight end too.

We could see how the offense will
look in preason however often
the starters don't play in the first
two games. We could see more of
the offensive line though.
Go Hawks!

.Mariners Blown Out Sunday

Early on the Mariners looked like they
would sweep the series. They were
able to get the starter out early however
it didn't work as being in their favor.

Bryan Woo was able to go six innings.
The Mariners scored three runs early
but didn't score anymore runs.

The bullpen wasn't effective on Sunday.
The final was Astros 11 Mariner 3.
The good news the Mariners took the
series. Now they take on the Milwaukee
Brewers for three at home. The Brewers
have been playing pretty good ball. The
Mariners will have to slow them down.
Again the key is to win Monday then
go from there.

The Astros will play the Diamondbacks
who do you want to win that series?
The Diamondbacks win the series
maybe they won't trade before the deadline.
Do you want the Astros to lose more
than the Diamondbacks right now?
We see what happens.

Mariners Win In Extra Innings

Coming out of all-star break it was
important to get off to good start.
Saturday was game two and the
Mariners took the win in 11 innings.

With a large crowd it was playoffs
atmosphere already. Both teams
lost both of their starters so it
came down to the bullpen.

This was interesting since neither
team hit a home run in this game.
The Mariners scored first in the
second then the Astros tied in
the top of the third. Mariners
than scored in the bottom of
the third. The Astros scored a
run in the fifth and three more
in the sixth.

Carlos Vargas came in the fifth
and went one and one-thirds
innings. He struggled a bit
giving up the three innings.
Vargas has more appearances
than an Mariners relievers.
He struggled in the fifth so I
thought bringing him back
in the sixth wasn't wise. Gabe
Speier pitched for the second
game in two days so he gave
up two outs.

Matt Brash was the only  reliever
for the Mariners struggling giving
up a hit and two walks in the 10th.
Cole Young had the hit that won
the game in the 11th going to
right field.

The Mariners will try to see about
trying to sweep the Astros and
lower down to two games back.
Both teams will have their all-stard
going. Hunter Brown for the Astros
Bryan Woo for the Mariners. Neither
pitcher were expected to pitch in
this series. When Astros announced
that Brown would start Sunday the
Mariners countered with Woo. This
is how important both teams think
the series is. Go M's.

Seahawks Sign All Rookies

This week the Seahawks final
two rookies signed their contracts
so they will be in camp.

Rookie safety Nick Emmanwori
his four year contract was fully
guaranteed for $11million and
tight end Elijah Arroyo for $8
million with three years guaranteed.
Both players were second round
picks. Emmanwori was early in the
round so like a first rounder. In
fact there was a shot he would
be drafted in the first round.
Seahawks made a deal to make
sure to get him.

Neither player will be a starter
as rookies however they should
get in a lot of playing time. We
see how things for them both.

Arroyo right now is listed as the
third tight end however talk that
he could be traded before training
camp is over. Often this speculation
by the media.

The Seahawks first preseason game
is on August 7 in Seattle against the
Raiders. They play the Kansas City
Chiefs in game two followed by
the Packers in Green Bay in the
final game of preseason. We likely
won't see a lot of the starting unit
until game three. It will be good to
see who is vying to make the team.
Go Hawks!

Mariners Take Game One Friday Night

The Seattle Mariners Fridtay night
took care of the Houston Astros
6-1.

Both starting pitchers did a good.
Randy Arozarena hit a solo home run
in the 4th inning and it stayed that
way until Mitch Garver hit a home
run in the 7th. Have the Mariners a
little more room however the Astros
scored a run in the top of the 8th
to make it interesting however
Matt Brash shut the door.

The Mariners as they did just before
the all-star game scored four more
runs in small ball way. A key was
JP Crawford driving  in Cole Young.
Julio walked and then Cal drove in
JP.

It is nice the Mariners are doing
things late in the game however
starting a bit earlier would be nice.

Luis Castillo did an awesome job
going six and two-thirds innings
and Gabe Speier took care of the
last out. After Brash in the 8th
Eduardo  Bazardo pitched the 9th.
Andre Munoz was warming up
but didn't go into the game. Would
have before the last two runs scored.

Logan Evans will start Saturday.
It will be important in this one to
score earlier. Go M's.

Look At The Washington Huskies Football Team.

We should see a better offense in 2025 under
head coach  Jedd Fisch and quarterback
Desmond  Williams  Jr.

Desmond  played well  in 2024 under partial
time as a freshman.  He began the season
primarily  when the Huskies were in the
red zone.  He ended the season  as the
starter.

Desmond not only how well he can run
he has a good arm. This season  he is
the starter from day one.  The opposing
team will have to watch when he throws
and runs. Most likely  he will run on short
yardage most of the time  we could see
him run on first down.

Though the offense should be better
there are questions about  the defense.
We hope the pass defense is good like
the old days and the running defense
will continue  to improve.

We will continue  to  see how they do.
The first game  of the season  will be
Saturday night August 30.against
Colorado State at Husky Stadium.
The first Big Ten game will be September 27th  at Husky Stadium  a week after the
Apple Cup in Pullman against Ohio  State.
Go Dawgs!

Washington State Cougars Football

The Washington State Cougars will
be starting trading camp in about
two weeks though I don't have the
exact date.

The  Cougars have new head coach
in Jimmy Rodgers who came over
from South Dakota State. It will
be interesting to learn about him
and his coaching staff.

It will be interesting to find out
the same or differences in how
the Cougars offense runs. The
Cougars for several decades
have had a powerful offense.

Now not being in the old Pac-12
and with the transfer portal it
will be interesting. Rodgers did
bring coaches and players
from South Dakota State. How
they workout in the first year
be interesting.

In the last month the new Pac-12
added Texas State who will start
next season. We can see that
there won't be 12 teams however
as we call it is the brand. Adding
Texas State gives them eight
teams for the conference which
is a requirement by the NCAA.
Gonzaga joins the conference
however they don't have football.

The Pac-12 has new media contract
as well. CBS Sports is the big name
in games that will be played. I expect
games be continued on CW. Let you
know where Cougars will be able to
be watched.

The Pac-12 still try dealing with
the Mountain West Conference.
Outside of the Cougars, Oregon
State Beavers, and  Texas State
most of the teams are coming
over from the Mountain West.

Stay tuned since things will change.
The Cougars should have a good
offense though a new quarterback
starting in Zevi Celsius.

The Cougars first game will be on
August 30 against Idaho in Pullman.
The Apple Cup against the Washington
Huskies will be in Pullman on September
20. We should before then what both
teams are doing.

Welcome to college football and
be checking in on the Huskies soon
too.

NL Wins All-star game

The NL and American League game
ended up tied at six all. The American
league tied it in the top of the 9th
inning.

This game looked like some of the games
the Mariners play. The National League
scored all six runs early then the AL
came back late in the game to tie.

Instead of extra innings they had a
home run swing off to decide the
sinner. Personally I would have
left the tie however the fans enjoyed
it. The National League came from
behind to win. Each hitter had three
swings each. I am not sure why Cal
wasn't in it however Randy Arozarena
was.

The Mariners four did a fine job to
represent Seattle. Cal did have a
hit in the game. He might have had
two. His first at bat a good catch
by the left fielder kept him from
having a hit. Arozarena came in
for Aaron Judge in right field.
He did a fine job in the field. Made
me wonder whether the Mariners
should play him some there.

Bryan Woo pitched the third inning
and got all three outs without a bit.
Did a great job. Andre Munoz pitched
the eighth. He gave up a walk and
struck out one.

Now we see who the Mariners get
before the deadline. An all-star
would be nice. Go M's!

Seahawks Rookies Report Tuesday

The Seattle Seahawks begin training
camp on July 15 for the rookies
only. Nine of the Seahawks eleven
rookies have signed contracts.

Safety Nick Emmanwori and tight
end Elijah Arroyo have not. Both
were second round  picks. The
salaries are grafted in for rookies
depending where they were drafted.
They sign four year contracts as
well. They can differ depending
on the signing bonus too.

The reason these two haven't signed
yet is that back in May the Houston
Texans first guaranteed all four years
to their second round pick and the
Cleveland Browns followed shortly
there after. I didn't realize this hadn't
happen before. So many of the NFL
teams second rounders haven't
signed

Both have been in the camps during
the off-season the question will they
both come in now. The Seahawks
will they sign them to four guarantee
years or not. It depends on whether
they and their agents stick to their
guns or not and same for the Seahawks.
Another avenue would be to guarantee
some of the years and add a good
signing bonus. The Seahawks can
do a insurance policy in case they
don't work out or have a career ending
injury. We will see.

Emmanwori may not start at safety
though the Seahawks may play three
safeties much of the time. Teams
often go with a nickel back on passing
downs. Witherspoon is in the nickel
back spot though he starts however
he moved around a lot. Either of them
can be like a linebacker too. Most
likely work this way with both in
the game.

Arroyo is listed as the third tight end.
This could change if the Seahawks
trade Noah Fant. Important for him
to come to camp on time as the
Seahawks have a new offensive
scheme. On running downs the
Seahawks will employ two tight
ends though they have added a
full back as well. Most likely see
both on short downs.

The veterans will be reporting next
Tuesday. Center could be the most
competitive position on the offense.
Who gets the job may decide to who
starts at right guard as well. Left
guard along with left tackle and
right tackle are pretty much set.
Most experts think Seahawks
number one pick this year  Grey
Zabel though to set to start at
left guard his long time position
might be center so we will see.

That is it for today. Go Hawks!

Day Two MLB Draft

The Mariners continued to take pitchers
on day two and final day of the draft.

They drafted 11 more to make it 13 total.
They picked six in a row from round
six through 11.  They took two more
catchers in round 12 and 14. They took
an outfielder between them the second
of three.  The Mariners took a shortstop
in round two and one other their final
pick in the draft number 20  Estevan
Moreno from Notre Dame.  His batting
average this year was .230 with ten
home runs. Being a 20th rounder it
will be tough to make it.

A few minutes ago Cal Raleigh won
the home run derby. He just had
made it in the first round by one foot
in the tie break. Congratulations Cal.

More On MLB Draft

The number two pick the Mariners selected
Luke Stevenson catcher out on North Carolina. This was in competitive balance
round and number 35. What I have read
he could be another Cal Raleigh. Does
this means the Mariners will likely trade
Harry Ford.

In the second round the Mariners picked
Nick Becker a high school shortstop.
It will be interesting if he plays shortstop
or moved to another position. Always
good to pick a shortstop.

In the third round right handed pitcher
Griffin Hugus out of University of Miami.
He began his college career at Cincinnati
where he played shortstop as well as pitch.
Last year he transferred to Miami where
he primarily pitched and his pitching increased. Most likely start out as a starter
however we see if he sticks there or goes
to the bullpen.

Round 4 thru 20 will take place on Monday.
Can see the draft on MLB.com. The M's
likely will take more pitchers though the
best player at the time will be their choice.
We will at the end of Monday. The home run
derby with Cal will take place Monday evening. Look forward to see how Cal
does.

Mariners Sweep Tigers

What s terrific series for the Seattle
Mariners to sweep the Detroit Tigers
after being swept by the Yankees.

The Tigers have the major league
best record at 59-38. The Tigers
were 5-2 in the last seven games
before facing the Mariners.

Sunday game again the Mariners
did well once again in the 9th
inning. The score was tied 4-4
at the end of the 8th inning.

The Tigers scored first with two
runs in the first inning on an error
by first baseman Luke Raley.
The Mariners scored next in the
third inning when Julio Rodriguez
hit a solo home run. It was the
third time Julio hit a home run
doing so in each game against
the Tigers. It looks like Julio
is ready to go in this second
half of the season.

The Mariners  continue when  the
season returns after the break
against the Houston Astros
being an important time. Randy
Arozarena tied the game in the
4th with a solo home run. It
was his ninth home run in the
last thirteen games. It is going
to be hard for the opposition
face Julio, Cal and Randy. Will
the Mariners be able to add
another bat in the batting order.

The Mariners scored again in
the seventh with a home run
by Mitch Garver playing catcher.
The Tigers took the lead in the
bottom of the 7th scoring two
runs including a solo home run
by outfielder Riley Greene.

In the 8th inning tied the game
with Randy Arozarena hitting
a double bring in Julio.  The
Mariners dominated the 9th
for the third game in a row.
Jorge Polanco pinch hitter
going in for Ben Williamson
hit a solo home run. Cole
Young followed with a home
run himself.

JP Crawford followed by walking.
followed by a double by Julio
scoring JP. Cal had his last chance
to tie Barry Bonds to 39 home runs
before the all-star break instead
the Tigers intentionally walked
him. Julio scored when he and
Cal did a double steal and the ball
thrown into left field. The Tigers
went down in order when closer
Andre Munoz came in. Final
Mariners 8 Tigers 4

The major league baseball draft
is happening right now. The
Mariners had the third pick overall
and went for left handed starter
Kade Anderson out of LSU.
The Mariners five starters right
now are right handeds so adding
a lefty to the rotation eventually
is a good thing. Anderson had
Tommy John surgery his senior
year so missed that season in
2022.

This year Anderson had a 12-1 record
LSU. He started 19 games with an
era of 3.33. He went 119 innings
walking 35 and striking out 180
batters which is dominating. He
throws his fast ball as high as 97
MPH. He was college national
pitcher of the year. He throws a
changeup as well as a curve ball.

Locally the Houston Astros drafted
shortstop Xavier Neyens out of
Mount Vernon High School. We
will root for him except when they
face the Mariners down the road.
I am sure he and his family along
with friends when he comes to
Seattle. The future major league
could change divisions that will
be more friendly for the Mariners
for travel.

Monday we will look who else the
Mariners draft and  how Cal does
in the home run derby. Tuesday
night how Cal, Randy, Bryan Woo
and Andre Munoz does in the
All-star game. Go M's..

Mariners Power Wins Again

We may have thought the Mariners
may have fallen down after being
swept in New York especially
having a no hitter heading into
the 8th inning on  Thursday night.

For the second game in a row
they scored runs in the 9th
to put it away. Have to credit
the Tigers trying to find a way
to come back to win on Saturday.
Final Mariners 15 Tigers 7

George Kirby didn't have outing
he wanted after two good ones
in a row.  He struggled throwing
a lot of pitches in the first inning.
Gave up  just one run. The Mariners
tied it in the second.  In the third
the Mariners scored five runs
including a three run homer
by Luke Raley.

The third inning allowed the Mariners
to chase Detroit Tigers starter Casey
Mize who came down to his first
loss at home. The Mariners added
another run in the fourth. In the 5th
Tiger's left fielder Riley Greene
hit a three run homer to make it
interesting. Julio hit a solo home
run in the sixth inning to add another
run to extension the lead. He had
three hits on the day.

Both teams scored two runs each
in the 8th inning. Matt Brash came
I'm not make it worse. Arozarena
who is going to take Julio's in the
all-star game hit a two run homer.

The Mariners scored four runs in
the 9th to help keep the Tigers
to win. Cal did hit a long one
on the day unfortunately it didn't
go out however it was close.
She if he can at least tie Barry
 Bonds record of home runs
before the break. Go M's.

.Mariners Beat Up on Tigers

The Seattle Mariners bounced back
Friday night after the very disappointing
loss on Thursday beating the Tigers
12 to 3 in Detroit. It is always good to
win the first game of a series.

Be great if the Mariners can take at
least one more game in the series.
It would have been nice to save
some runs for tomorrow.

Cal Raleigh had two more home
runs in the game including a
grand slam in the ninth inning.
The Mariners scored seven runs
to put the game out of hand in
the ninth. Cal now has 38 home
runs on the season and one
behind Barry Bonds for the
most home runs before the
all-star break. Two more by
Sunday he will have the record
before the all-star break.

Luis Castillo pitched into the
sixth inning however left
before getting any outs and
surrended two of his three
runs.  The bullpen didn't
give up a hit in four innings.

Before the game Julio Rodriguez
announced he will not play in
the all-star game and instead
will rest up for the second half
of the season. Seattle outfielder
Randy Arozarena will take his spot.

George Kirby will start Saturday day
game for the Mariners against
the Tigers all-star pitcher Casey
Mize. This should be a good
outing on both sides.

Sunday will be the major league
draft. The Mariners have the
number three pick. Should be
a very good choice. The Mariners
are likely going to pick a college
pitcher. Who it will be we will
have to see. Go M's.

Yankees Sweep Mariners

Going into the 8th inning it looked like
Mariners would win easily then things
fell apart in an unusual way.

Heading into the seventh inning the
Mariners had scored two runs then
Jorge Polanco hit a three run homer
to put the Mariners up 5-0.

Starter Bryan Woo pitched an awesome
game going into the 8th inning. He
walked the first two batters he faced
in the game then no other batters
reached base. He was  pitching a
no hitter into the 8th. Woo had never
pitched into the 8th. He ended up giving
up a single to the leadoff hitter. The next
hitter got a base hit too and a sacrifice
fly scoring the Yankees first run.

The Mariners brought in Matt Brash.
He recorded the next batter out then
Brash gave up a two run homer to
make it 5-3. The Mariners batters
went one, two and three outs in
the 9th. Andre Munoz pitched the
9th for the Mariners. Things still
looked  good however he gave up
two runs to tie.

Game goes into extra innings.
The Mariners couldn't bring in the
runner from second in the 10th
however the Yankees did on a
sacrifice fly by Aaron Judge.
I would say the .ost disappointing
loss of the season.

Now the Mariners go play the
Tigers in Detroit. We hope they
can recover. Go M's.

Yankees Beat Mariners Again

Wednesday night the Mariners lost to
the New York Yankees again. We hope
they don't get swept on Thursday.
Coming into the series the Yankees
were struggling while the Mariners
were swept the Pirates.

My belief is the Mariners have trouble
with a team like the Yankees for their
talent and being World champions for
many years. It will be interesting if the
same happens against the Dodgers.

Final Yankees 9 Mariners 6

The Yankees scored three runs in the
first inning with small ball.  JP Crawford
hit a home run in the third inning for
the Mariners.  Jazz Chisholm Jr.
hit first of two home runs in the
bottom of the third. Jorge Polanco
hit a solo home run in the top of
the 4th to make it interesting.

The Yankees scored two runs in bottom
of the fifth. Arozarena hit a home run
in the sixth however the Yankees scored
three in the bottom of the sixth. Cole
Young hit a two run homer in the seventh
for his first major league home run.

Logan Evans was the starter. He went four
and two -thirds giving up six runs. This
was his first outing at Yankee Stadium.
Carlos Vargas who has done a surprising
job as a rookie reliever was his 42nd
appearance. I believe the Mariners have to
watch his appearances since a lot at this
point. They need to acquire another reliever.

Trent Thornton who has had an up and
down season pitched the final two
innings and not surrendering a run.
Go M's.

Yankees Beat Up Mariners Tuesday Night

The first game of the series between the
Mariners and Yankees started out with
light rain. The game got delayed in the
top of the fifth inning with two outs
and the score 0-0. Neither team was
much up to that point. The Mariners
only scored two runs in their previous
two games against the Pirates and
fortunately won both since the pitching
didn't give a run in that series.

The game was delayed for about an
hour before action returned. Logan
Gilbert was back on the mound when
the Yankees came up. JP Crawford
made the third out for the Mariners.

Gilbert gave up one run in the bottom of
the fifth. In the sixth inning he struggled
more and gave up four runs with three
on a home run to Giancarlo Stanton.
Gilbert left with one out.  This questions
whether a starter should return after
a rain delay in the fifth inning. I am sure
Gilbert wanted to continue however
maybe Manager Dan Wilson should have
made another decision and put someone
else in.

Casey Legunmina who came in for Gilbert
didn't fair any better. He gave up two home
runs including a two-run homer in the sixth.
He gave up a total of five runs. Rookie
Juan Burgos making only his second
appearance since being recalled from
triple A finished the game going one and
two-thirds innings. He gave just one hit and
struck out two.

The Mariners did get three runs in the
eighth inning. The highlight was Cal
Raleigh hitting a two run homer for
his 36th home run breaking Ken Griffey
Jr. record for the Mariners before the
the all-star break. Congratulations on
Cal continue doing it. We now hope the
Mariners can score more runs in New
York. Go M's.

Mariners Report Card for 2025 Halfway

The Seattle Mariners season is a little
over halfway though they consider the
all-star game as the halfway mark.

I give the Mariners a grade of B- since
are over the 500 mark. Going 5-2 in
the last home stand helped. Now they
play against the Yankees in New York
for three followed by the Detroit Tigers
for three. The Tigers have the best record
while the Yankees have struggled lately.
The surprise is the Toronto Blue Jays
are in first of the American League East.
The likelihood is both the Yankees and
the Mariners will be in the playoffs even
if they don't win their divisions.

The pitching I give the  grade of Bt.
Injuries to the starting rotation is the
reason for the Bt. We hope for an A
after the all-star break. Both Emerson
Hancock and Logan breakEvans have been
a good help while Kirby, Gilbert and
Miller had been out. Miller should be
back shortly after the all-star break.
He is going to start a rehab assignment
with the Tacoma Rainiers.

It is nice that Bryan Woo who has had an
excellent first half will be on the all-star
team as well as reliever and closer Andre
Munoz who matches Woo in performance.

I give the Mariners a C for the offense.
This mainly for the first half that catcher
Cal Raleigh has had. He gets an A plus
for the best hitting a catcher has had in
the history of baseball in the first half.
Fans nationally recognized it and voted
to start in the all-star game and be in the
home run derby. He leads the majors in
home runs and rbis.

Julio Rodriguez is going to be on the
all-star team as well mainly for his defense.
We hope he gets hot now. I give him a Ct
because  of his defense.

The Mariners offense got off to hot start
however fizzled  in May except Cal of
course. Both Jorge Polanco and Dylan Moore
had a good start however May on they
haven't been recognized. Randy Arozarena
has headed up on the last home stand
Luke Raley is now back after being hurt
for about six weeks. He will play both
first base and right field. Play center field
when Julio needs a day off. Dominic Canzone
had done well since he came up from
triple A. We hope he continues his good play.
Donovan Solano who didn't get off to a good
start has hit well recently. We hope more from
him in the second half.

The Mariners brought up Williamson early
to play third base and Colt Young came up
in June to take over at second. Both have
done well as rookies. We hope more steady
in the second half. They have played good
defense and find in the bottom of the
batting order.

Now we will see if the Mariners can pull
off a trade for a bat who can help when
the others offense is flat. Another reliever
would be nice too. Go M's.

Seahawks Monday

Fall camp is about to start this
coming weekend.

The big question mark is the offense.
It isn't the new quarterback or the
offensive line really it is the new
scheme. How well will the players
handle it.

I expect the passing game will be ok
though we may not see as much passing
because of the scheme. We hope for
more success though in the passing
game everything will be alright. The
question still be can the offensive line
block for the running game. We will
find out.

The most important is the center position.
It is one the starter could change on the
Seahawks too. Olu Oluwatini is listed on
the first team at center however training
camp will show if he actually does start.
If he doesn't start there could be other
changes may happen to. Along with other
things we willet you know.

The three preseason games won't let
us know who the starters will be outside
of some positions since we won't see
the starters much at all in preseason.
Personally I think they should start
game three even if it is only one series.
Let you know how things go. Go Hawks!

Mariners Sweep Pirates

The Seattle Mariners had a good homestand
going 5-2. Not only did they sweep the
Pirates they shutout them out all three games. On top that coming into this series
the Pirates had shut out the St. Louis
Cardinal three times. This the first time
in major league baseball a baseball team
shutout another team in a series and
turn around get shut out themselves.

The score Sunday was the same as
Saturday with the Mariners getting
one run.  The Mariners got their run
on a home run by Randy Arozarena
in the bottom of sixth inning. Paul
Skenes the Pirates outstanding starting
pitcher left after the seventh inning.
He gave up only five hits to the Mariners
while striking out ten without a walk.

George Kirby the  Mariners starter almost
matched up Skenes. He went six and
one-thirds inning giving up four hits. He
left after giving up a hit in the seventh.
He struck out nine batters.

The Mariners have Monday off then
play three games against the Yankees
in New York. Next weekend they take
on the Detroit Tigers. Neither of those
teams will be easy to beat however
we hope the pitching continues.

During the game it was announced that
the Mariners will have three other players
going to the all-star game besides Cal
Raleigh who is having the best season
so far than any catcher has ever had in
baseball season. Starter Bryan Woo having
a great season as well as reliever Andre Munoz which isn't a surprise and outfielder
Julio Rodriguez who is a surprise.

The Mariners are now 48-42 and still seven
games behind the Houston Astros who
have been playing very well. The Texas Rangers are third three games behind
the Mariners. The LA Angels are a game
behind them. The Athletics are struggling
at their new home ball park in Sacramento.
They are seven games behind the Angels.

We hope the Mariners can pull off a trade
to pick up at least one bat before the
trade deadline at the end of July. Sooner
in my mind that is.  Go M's.

Mariners Shut Out Pirates Again

For the second game in the series on
Saturday night the Mariners Shutout
the Pirates.

It wasn't quite the same this time
as the Mariners were only able to
score one run themselves. This
means the outcome didn't come
until the last out of the game.

Ben Williamson hit a double in the
sixth inning to bring Jorge Polanco
across the plate. The Mariners had
other opportunities however like
often could bring them home. Makes
it frustrating where one mistake could
cost you the same but that didn't
happen for the Mariners anyway..

Luis Castillo pitched a wonderful game
for the Mariners going seven innings
on two hits. Matt Brash and Andre Munoz
took care of the eighth and ninth.

The Mariners now will see if they can
sweep the Pirates on Sunday night.
At the very least have won the series.
Go M's.

Mariners Shutout Pirates

The Seattle Mariners had an afternoon game
at home against the Pittsburgh Pirates

Final Seattle 6 Pittsburgh 0

Bryan Woo again went six innings
giving up three hits, two walks and
eight strike outs. He has pitched
more games of six innings or more
then any starter in the majors this
season.

Cal Raleigh was back at it again
having two home runs while Randy
Arozarena and Dylan Moore each
had one.

Now we see if the Mariners can take
game two on Saturday night with
Luis  Castillo on the mound.
Go M's.

Mariners Split Series

It would have been nice if the
Mariners could have won this
series. After winning by one run
Wednesday night they lost by
one run Thursday night 3-2.

The Royals scored two runs
in the seventh inning for the
win. Dominic Canzone led off
the ninth with a home run.
The Mariners were able to get
two more runners on base so
had opportunity to tie or win
the game.

The Mariners had ten hits while
the Royals had five. Most times
they won't win with two runs scored.
Offense needs to play more small
ball.

The weekend series will be against
the Pittsburgh Pirates so hopefully
can take two out of three. Go M's.

Mariners Win One Run Game

The Mariners win game three on
Wednesday night 3-2.

The Royals scored a run in the first
inning off Logan Gilbert. He and
the Royals starter only went four and
two-thirds innings throwing too many
pitches.

The Mariners finally scored in the
sixth inning when Randy Arozarena
hit his fourth home run in last three
games. He drove in another run
as well. So did Julio drive in a run.
Cal Raleigh had the day off. He
was announced as the starting
catcher in the all-star game.

Matt Brash gave up the other run
to the Royals. It was his first run
given up on the season so we will
excuse him.

Emerson Hancock was sent down to
Tacoma. This will allow him to pitch
in order before the all-star break.
Logan Evans is being called up
from Tacoma to start on Thursday
night. Bryan Woo will start on
Friday against the Pittsburgh Pirates
This means each starter will be
moved back a day. Go M's.

Oh by the way 17th one run win on
the season.

Washington Huskie Football Going On

The Washington Huskies football team
will be starting fall camp soon.

Look on offense, besides the starting
receivers there is not any with much
college experience. They will get it
when the chance comes. The same
for the offensive line.

Quentin Moore returns at tight end.
Also Decker DeGraaf who had an
outstanding freshman season last year.

Jonah Coleman comes back as the
starting running back. Adam Mohammed
will get much of the reps when Jonah
needs a rest. Jordan Washington expected
to be the third running back.

On defense the Huskies have a lot
of experience however most are
unfamiliar names as they are transfers.

We will look more at these guys as time
passes on. Go Dawgs!

Royals Even Series In Seattle Tuesday Night

We hope the Mariners can win this
four game series however they lost
Tuesday night 6-3 so series is at 2-2.

Emerson Hancock started and
struggled however he was able to go six
innings giving up five runs. The bullpen
needed him to go that long.

Only used two relievers. Juan Burgos
made his Mariners and manor league
debut. He pitched the eighth and ninth
innings. He gave up one run with two
outs in the top of the  ninth.

The Mariners first run was in the second
inning Randy Arozarena hit a solo home
run. His third home run in two days.
The Mariners had seven hits on the
night with Arozarena having two.
Now we see if the Mariners can rebound
on Wednesday.  Go M's.

Seahawks Tuesday

Last week the Seahawks had off
season mini camp. They are now
on break. Either vacation or working
out. Preseason camp will begin at
the end of July.

The Seahawks were looking at
trading tight end Noah Fant
to the Pittsburgh Steelers to team
up with former Seahawks receiver
DK Metcalf. On Monday morning
the Steelers made a trade with
the Miami Dolphins. The Dolphins
send defensive back Jalen Ramsey
and their tight Jonnu Smith to the
Steelers. Now Fant could be traded
to the Dolphins now. I am sure other
teams are being discussed.

Trading Fant would save the Seahawks
over $9 million in space when it comes to
the salary cap. This would allow the
Seahawks trade or sign another player.
Though Fant is a good receiver the
change in the offense the tight end
is important in the running game.

The question still is whether running
back Kenneth Walker III fits into
that scheme for the Seahawks along
with his health. Stay tuned. Go Hawks!

Seahawks Win Friday Night
