Mariners Sweep Tigers

What s terrific series for the Seattle
Mariners to sweep the Detroit Tigers
after being swept by the Yankees.

The Tigers have the major league
best record at 59-38. The Tigers
were 5-2 in the last seven games
before facing the Mariners.

Sunday game again the Mariners
did well once again in the 9th
inning. The score was tied 4-4
at the end of the 8th inning.

The Tigers scored first with two
runs in the first inning on an error
by first baseman Luke Raley.
The Mariners scored next in the
third inning when Julio Rodriguez
hit a solo home run. It was the
third time Julio hit a home run
doing so in each game against
the Tigers. It looks like Julio
is ready to go in this second
half of the season.

The Mariners  continue when  the
season returns after the break
against the Houston Astros
being an important time. Randy
Arozarena tied the game in the
4th with a solo home run. It
was his ninth home run in the
last thirteen games. It is going
to be hard for the opposition
face Julio, Cal and Randy. Will
the Mariners be able to add
another bat in the batting order.

The Mariners scored again in
the seventh with a home run
by Mitch Garver playing catcher.
The Tigers took the lead in the
bottom of the 7th scoring two
runs including a solo home run
by outfielder Riley Greene.

In the 8th inning tied the game
with Randy Arozarena hitting
a double bring in Julio.  The
Mariners dominated the 9th
for the third game in a row.
Jorge Polanco pinch hitter
going in for Ben Williamson
hit a solo home run. Cole
Young followed with a home
run himself.

JP Crawford followed by walking.
followed by a double by Julio
scoring JP. Cal had his last chance
to tie Barry Bonds to 39 home runs
before the all-star break instead
the Tigers intentionally walked
him. Julio scored when he and
Cal did a double steal and the ball
thrown into left field. The Tigers
went down in order when closer
Andre Munoz came in. Final
Mariners 8 Tigers 4

The major league baseball draft
is happening right now. The
Mariners had the third pick overall
and went for left handed starter
Kade Anderson out of LSU.
The Mariners five starters right
now are right handeds so adding
a lefty to the rotation eventually
is a good thing. Anderson had
Tommy John surgery his senior
year so missed that season in
2022.

This year Anderson had a 12-1 record
LSU. He started 19 games with an
era of 3.33. He went 119 innings
walking 35 and striking out 180
batters which is dominating. He
throws his fast ball as high as 97
MPH. He was college national
pitcher of the year. He throws a
changeup as well as a curve ball.

Locally the Houston Astros drafted
shortstop Xavier Neyens out of
Mount Vernon High School. We
will root for him except when they
face the Mariners down the road.
I am sure he and his family along
with friends when he comes to
Seattle. The future major league
could change divisions that will
be more friendly for the Mariners
for travel.

Monday we will look who else the
Mariners draft and  how Cal does
in the home run derby. Tuesday
night how Cal, Randy, Bryan Woo
and Andre Munoz does in the
All-star game. Go M's..
