Yankees Beat Up Mariners Tuesday Night

The first game of the series between the
Mariners and Yankees started out with
light rain. The game got delayed in the
top of the fifth inning with two outs
and the score 0-0. Neither team was
much up to that point. The Mariners
only scored two runs in their previous
two games against the Pirates and
fortunately won both since the pitching
didn't give a run in that series.

The game was delayed for about an
hour before action returned. Logan
Gilbert was back on the mound when
the Yankees came up. JP Crawford
made the third out for the Mariners.

Gilbert gave up one run in the bottom of
the fifth. In the sixth inning he struggled
more and gave up four runs with three
on a home run to Giancarlo Stanton.
Gilbert left with one out.  This questions
whether a starter should return after
a rain delay in the fifth inning. I am sure
Gilbert wanted to continue however
maybe Manager Dan Wilson should have
made another decision and put someone
else in.

Casey Legunmina who came in for Gilbert
didn't fair any better. He gave up two home
runs including a two-run homer in the sixth.
He gave up a total of five runs. Rookie
Juan Burgos making only his second
appearance since being recalled from
triple A finished the game going one and
two-thirds innings. He gave just one hit and
struck out two.

The Mariners did get three runs in the
eighth inning. The highlight was Cal
Raleigh hitting a two run homer for
his 36th home run breaking Ken Griffey
Jr. record for the Mariners before the
the all-star break. Congratulations on
Cal continue doing it. We now hope the
Mariners can score more runs in New
York. Go M's.
