going 5-2. Not only did they sweep the
Pirates they shutout them out all three games. On top that coming into this series
the Pirates had shut out the St. Louis
Cardinal three times. This the first time
in major league baseball a baseball team
shutout another team in a series and
turn around get shut out themselves.
The score Sunday was the same as
Saturday with the Mariners getting
one run. The Mariners got their run
on a home run by Randy Arozarena
in the bottom of sixth inning. Paul
Skenes the Pirates outstanding starting
pitcher left after the seventh inning.
He gave up only five hits to the Mariners
while striking out ten without a walk.
George Kirby the Mariners starter almost
matched up Skenes. He went six and
one-thirds inning giving up four hits. He
left after giving up a hit in the seventh.
He struck out nine batters.
The Mariners have Monday off then
play three games against the Yankees
in New York. Next weekend they take
on the Detroit Tigers. Neither of those
teams will be easy to beat however
we hope the pitching continues.
During the game it was announced that
the Mariners will have three other players
going to the all-star game besides Cal
Raleigh who is having the best season
so far than any catcher has ever had in
baseball season. Starter Bryan Woo having
a great season as well as reliever Andre Munoz which isn't a surprise and outfielder
Julio Rodriguez who is a surprise.
The Mariners are now 48-42 and still seven
games behind the Houston Astros who
have been playing very well. The Texas Rangers are third three games behind
the Mariners. The LA Angels are a game
behind them. The Athletics are struggling
at their new home ball park in Sacramento.
They are seven games behind the Angels.
We hope the Mariners can pull off a trade
to pick up at least one bat before the
trade deadline at the end of July. Sooner
in my mind that is. Go M's.
