Seahawks Thursday

The Seahawks  made their 53 man roster
on Tuesday  though a few changes happened
on Wednesday. A player isn't  safe if he is
one of the last on the roster.

In total the Seahawks  have 26 players on
defense, 24 on offense plus the field goal
kicker, punter and long snapper.

Have a breakdown  on  positions.  Of course
Geno Smith  and Drew Lock as quarterbacks.
Number three Holton Ahlers is on the practice
which was named on Wednesday.  No Seahawks
were picked up on waivers or who were released.

Running back the Seahawks have four including
the two Zach Charbonnet and  Kenneth McIntosh
who were drafted this year. In fact all ten players
the Seahawks  drafted made the team.

Wide receiver  going with six. Undrafted college
free agent  Jake Bobo out of UCLA  who had an
outstanding  camp made the team. Probably be
on special  teams  and make an occasional catch.
Tight end the three from last season.

The offensive line has nine. No big surprises there.
The backup  tackles and guards will  have  to  play
both sides. Defensive  line goes with six while
linebacker is ten including the edge rusher.

Cornerbacks going with six. Riq Woolen and first
round pick Devon Witherspoon will be two of the
starters. Michael  Jackson  was expected to be the
third however er didn't  play well in the preseason
games so could go with one of the other three.

Safety there will be four. Jamal Adams who missed
most of last season  is listed on the roster though
he could miss a game or two or more we will see.
Though a safety  we could see him playing as a edge
rusher. Julian Love who they signed as a free agent
will likely start initially at safety.

On Wednesday  the Seahawks  claimed two rookies
off of waivers Kyu Blu Kelly  cornerback from Baltimore
and Drake Thomas from the Raiders.

On Friday we will  look at the Washington Huskies and
WSU Cougars  depth charts.

Mariners Win After Bad Start

The Seattle Mariners were able to win
the game Wednesday afternoon after
getting off to a terrible start.

Bryce Miller had a poor start giving up
three runs in the second inning however Teoscar Hernandez hit a three run homer
in the third to tie the game. Teoscar has
been hitting well in the last couple months.

Bryce was able to recover not to give
up anymore runs and last six innings
without giving up another run. It shows
how determined he is starting.

No scoring happened again.until the
7th when the A's were able to score
one run off Justin.Topa has been pitching
well. In fact this was his first run giving up
in 15 games and 3 in the last 30 games.
Say we can live with it.

The bottom of the seventh the Mariners
scored two runs on a single by JP Crawford. Neither team scored the rest of the way. Final M's 5 A's 4

They have Thursday off then weekend in
New York then onto Cincinnati.

Mariners Lose First Time to Oakland

I am sure most of us thought the Mariners
would sweep  this series against the A's
however it wasn't  meant to  be.

The Mariners  were without starting  pitcher
George Kirby  who was scratched a couple
hours before the game. Also, Julio Rodriguez
was scratched  a few minutes before the game
for a minor injury in warm-ups. During the
game in the Ty France  had to leave as well.
Both Julio and Ty are day to day. Wednesday's
game is in the afternoon  so whether both or
either one we will have to see.

Luke Weaver  pitched in place of Kirby.  His
first start and third appearance since being
signed by the Mariners.  Weaver gave up a
solo home run in the first and a two-run
variety  in the second inning. The only  runs
the A's got in the game. Unfortunately  without
Julio and Ty the Mariners  couldn't muster
much of an offense. How we have experienced
the Mariners  offense they don't do well when
Julio isn't doing well or not in the lineup. Julio
is the one running the  train so to speak.

Weaver was able to last going into  the  fourth inning
getting two outs before existing. The bullpen did
a fine job the rest  of  the  way. The four relievers
gave up only two hits, no walks and struck out three.
I am sure most fans thought the offense could muster
some runs to win but not on Tuesday.

Bryce Miller is scheduled to start Wednesday afternoon.
Not knowing whether Julio or Ty will be in the lineup.
The Mariners  do have Thursday off so both should be
available  Friday in New York against the Mets.  Hopefully
the  Mariners  can start another good winning streak.

Mariners Continue To Win

The Seattle Mariners offense continue
to do well and the pitching as well
beating the Oakland A's 7-0.

The Mariners should sweep this series
however we will see. Oakland only have
38 wins which means they lack pitching
and hitting. Always here teams will win
60 games no matter how good or bad
they are in a season. In this case won't
happen with the A's. Makes me wonder
how long it will take the A's to rebuild
if they are actually doing it.

The Mariners were fortunate not being
that bad during their rebuilding. Even
in all the years of being a bad team they
didn't lose over one hundred games to
often. Trouble for the many years the
Mariners won in the high 70s or low 80s
and sometimes just missing out of the
playoffs. Being the only team not to
win a World Series hasn't helped either.
We hope this is the year to get over it.
They certainly have the pitching and the
offense over the last couple months
show what they are capable of.

JP Crawford led off  the Mariners first
inning with his 12th home run of the
season. Julio Rodriguez hit one in the
game as well.  Crawford scored three
times on two hits and a walk. Julio
had four hits which was the same number
the A's hit for the game. He scored
three times and drove in three as well.
Teoscar Hernandez continued his hot
hitting having two hits and two RBIs.
Eugenio and Ty France had a couple
hits as well. The Rangers and Astros
both won keeping close to the
Mariners as well.

George Kirby will be on the mound
Tuesday night. Should have another
win.

Seahawks released five players on
Monday bringing down to 78 heading
into Tuesday.  They have to be down
to 53 players on Tuesday. They will
be able to add back 16 to the practice
squad on Wednesday. We will whether
there will be any surprises on the roster
and who don't make it. Stay tuned!

Seahawks Monday

The Seattle Seahawks  now will have to
trim their roster down to the opening
roster. On Sunday they put seven players
on waivers. To be honest only two of the
players I even heard of. One was was
former Washington Huskies running
back Wayne Taulapapa. Most likely
these seven won't  be  on the practice
squad with the Seahawks.  They could be
on another team's  practice squad though.

There will probably be about twenty other
players waived or released on Monday and
Tuesday.  The practice squad  is  made up
of 16 players. In the past several years
the opening roster had two quarterbacks.
Now the rules have changed where the
third quarterback can be available in case
of injury.  I am not sure whether the third
qb is on the practice squad or not like they
used to be or they are on the opening roster
and are exempt. I  guess we will find out.

I never really paid attention to  players who
we're picked up during training  camp while
others were released. I  figured for the most
part they wouldn't  be  making the team at cut
down.

On Wednesday  the Seahawks  can set the players
who will  make the practice  squad.  It will depend
a lot on who maybe  picked up by other teams.
The Seahawks  may release a player on Tuesday
and then resign them at a lower price to fit under
the salary  cap. They will  have several players
who will be added to  injured reserve as well. This
means they won't  be  able  to  play in several games.

There probably  not many positions they won't have
to do this however they will pick up up a couple or
three possibly who were released from other teams.
I could see that happening  on the defensive line
and wide receiver. They could so on the offensive
line as well but most likely  not. I  am sure they know
the nine or ten players they will keep on the offensive
line. If they do pick one up for the offensive line it
will likely  be someone  who can play tackle and guard.
Go Hawks!

Mariners Sweep Royals

Sunday's  game  wasn't  as easy as the other two
games, however  Luis Castillo pitched a wonderful
game going seven innings  and giving up one hit.

Both teams scored their runs on home runs.  The
Mariners played pretty  good  defense as well. Both
Suarez and Cade Marlowe  made good plays to
help out the victory.  As manager  Scott  Servais  said
on post game show it isn't  ever easy to sweep another
team.

Final Seattle  3 Kansas City  2

Julio Rodriguez  hit a solo home run in the second
inning and Teoscar  Hernandez  had a two-run  shot.
Both players  are  playing  outstanding ball as of
late. Some fans are wondering  why Hernandez
hasn't  been  signed to extension. That is a good
question  and he likes it here it seems. Having an
outfield of Jarred Kelenic, Hernandez, Julio Rodriguez,
Cade Marlowe  and  Dominic Canzone   next season
sounds like a good idea. Kelenic, Marlowe and Canzone
all bat lefthanded. Marlowe and Canzone  can dh
when not in the field. The same can be said of Hernandez
as well.  Most likely Kelenic  and Julio will be in the
field  most of the  time.  Canzone can play some first base
as well.  This will help if Ty France  is injured or needs a
day off. The Mariners  can play Dylan Moore in the outfield
against lefties  when needed.

Kalenic looks to be back sometime in September. Most likely
the second week. This means Canzone  and Marlowe can
pinch hit or dh. Whatever the case this is a good problem
to have. If Hernandez  isn't  back next year the Mariners need
to pick up another right handed bat for the outfield and or
first base.  The Mariners  don't  need any more pitching unless
it is to add to the  bullpen. Robbie Ray  will be back at some point
but most likely  around the all-star  break.  Marco Gonzales should
be back and available at the beginning of the season.  What do
the Mariners  do with him is the question.  We will  see won't we.

Second base sounds good right now with Josh Rojas, Jose Caballero
and Dylan Moore.  Do the Mariners  still need to upgrade  the position.
We will see what the  Mariners  want to do there.  Catcher we have
Cal Raleigh and Tom Murphy it looks like. Have to figure Harry  Ford
won't  likely  be on the team until  2025 unless he does some amazing
next spring.  The Mariners could start next season with three catchers
once again if Harry  is  ready.  His versatility  could mean he plays
other positions as well.  It would be interesting to see during the fall
whether  the  Mariners  will try him at other positions in instructional
league or whatever  they call it now.  It would be interesting to see
him at second base during the fall.  Go M's.

Seahawks Lose Final Preseason Game

The Seahawks  played Saturday  afternoon  in
Green Bay  losing to the Packers 19-15.

The early part of the game they didn’t play
well at all. Again this game was played mostly
by the reserves.  The Seahawks  were leading
late into the game when the Packers scored a
touchdown  just under to take the lead and
final score.

The Seahawks  did a good job going down
the field though the game ended in an interception
by the Packers. Drew Lock played most of the
game at quarterback  with Holton Ahlers coming
in for the final drive. Depending  on your opinion
Drew Lock  may have deserved to come in the final
drive instead.

We wouldn't  see Geno Smith until the opener in
two weeks  on September  10 against the Rams
at home. I  guess we will  find out whether a good
choice or not to have played Geno or not.  This
would be the same for the other starters.

This coming Tuesday  the Seahawks  will  have to
go down to 63 man roster. Depending on the waiver
wire the last few players could change as well.  The
Seahawks  will  have the 16 man practice squad as
well. How that will be made up depends who they
cut are picked up  by other teams or not. I  am  sure
we will see several  players  placed on the injured
list as well.  Go Hawks!

Mariners Offense Struggles Again
