games, however Luis Castillo pitched a wonderful
game going seven innings and giving up one hit.
Both teams scored their runs on home runs. The
Mariners played pretty good defense as well. Both
Suarez and Cade Marlowe made good plays to
help out the victory. As manager Scott Servais said
on post game show it isn't ever easy to sweep another
team.
Final Seattle 3 Kansas City 2
Julio Rodriguez hit a solo home run in the second
inning and Teoscar Hernandez had a two-run shot.
Both players are playing outstanding ball as of
late. Some fans are wondering why Hernandez
hasn't been signed to extension. That is a good
question and he likes it here it seems. Having an
outfield of Jarred Kelenic, Hernandez, Julio Rodriguez,
Cade Marlowe and Dominic Canzone next season
sounds like a good idea. Kelenic, Marlowe and Canzone
all bat lefthanded. Marlowe and Canzone can dh
when not in the field. The same can be said of Hernandez
as well. Most likely Kelenic and Julio will be in the
field most of the time. Canzone can play some first base
as well. This will help if Ty France is injured or needs a
day off. The Mariners can play Dylan Moore in the outfield
against lefties when needed.
Kalenic looks to be back sometime in September. Most likely
the second week. This means Canzone and Marlowe can
pinch hit or dh. Whatever the case this is a good problem
to have. If Hernandez isn't back next year the Mariners need
to pick up another right handed bat for the outfield and or
first base. The Mariners don't need any more pitching unless
it is to add to the bullpen. Robbie Ray will be back at some point
but most likely around the all-star break. Marco Gonzales should
be back and available at the beginning of the season. What do
the Mariners do with him is the question. We will see won't we.
Second base sounds good right now with Josh Rojas, Jose Caballero
and Dylan Moore. Do the Mariners still need to upgrade the position.
We will see what the Mariners want to do there. Catcher we have
Cal Raleigh and Tom Murphy it looks like. Have to figure Harry Ford
won't likely be on the team until 2025 unless he does some amazing
next spring. The Mariners could start next season with three catchers
once again if Harry is ready. His versatility could mean he plays
other positions as well. It would be interesting to see during the fall
whether the Mariners will try him at other positions in instructional
league or whatever they call it now. It would be interesting to see
him at second base during the fall. Go M's.
