It looks like players are going to be able to
practice again at the Mariners training site.
At this point don't know when the season
will begin. The players and the owners have
to decide when that will be and where the
games will be played.
The state of Washington is starting to open
up so they could have games at T-Mobile
Park when the season begins, however,
they could decide to have all games in
Arizona as well.
Having games in Seattle would me no
fans or small crowds. It all depends
when King County is able to go through
the four phases. Right now they are still
in phase 1 and not ready for phase 2 yet
though the county is asking for phase
1.5 allowing some additional businesses
to open up.
The Mariners are going to pay each minor
leaguer $400 a week for the rest of the season.
The amount would go up if they end up
having a season. It is unlike the Oakland
A's who have stopped paying their minor
leaguers at the end of May.
The Mariners did release at least 30 minor leaguers
this week. I expect it is the amount of players
they usually release this time of the year anyway.
The high school and college draft will be taking
place soon as well. Usually they have been
drafting 40 rounds, however, this year it will
be five or ten rounds. This means any other
eligible players will be free agents.
College players are eligible after their junior
year of college unless they are junior college
players. So likely juniors who are not drafted
this year will go back to college for their senior
year.
Not known yet whether next year's draft will
go back to what it was or have less rounds.
We will have to tune in later for that.
At least it looks like baseball maybe around
the corner for us to watch so we will have
to see. Go M's.
