Mariners Lose A Close Game

The Seattle Mariners had their chance
Friday night to beat the LA Angels but
it didn't happen. They lost 3-2 despite
they had the bases loaded with no out.
Neither Mitch Haniger or Kyle Seager
or Ty France could get enough to get a
hit or in Haniger and Seager a sacrifice
fly to tie the score.

I am not sure why Kyle Seager is batting
third other than the potential of doing
something. The problem though they
don't have many other choices to stick
in the third spot except putting France
there and moving Seager down the
order.

When Seager is hot it would be good
to see him in the middle of the lineup,
however, the rest of the time it is
meaningless. His defense is good still
but the rest of his game makes me shake
my head. Ok he is a rare veteran player
but the Mariners have never been to the
playoffs with him on the roster so what
is the big deal.

Seager does look like he has a good
sense of humor and he plays the game
the right way though not always with
success. I am sure he benefits the young
players. We won't really know how much
until he is gone.

Robert Dugger was the opener in this
one as the Mariners had to go with
the bullpen without Justin Dunn who
is on injured list. He pitched well for
the first two and one-thirds inning then
gave up a single to David Fletcher and
a home run to Justin Upton to tie the
score at 2-2.

JP Crawford who seems to be on fire
recently led the game off with a home
run then had a sacrifice fly in the top
of the third inning scoring Taylor
Trammell after he hit a double then
moved over to third on a sacrifice bunt
by Donovan Walton.  Trammell has
four hits in the four games he has since
return when Kyle Lewis went on the
injured list.

Speaking of Lewis according to general
manager Jerry Dipoto it looks like he
will be out for quite some time. We may
be lucky to see him before the season is
over. Lewis will get a second opinion to
see if he will need surgery or not.

The Mariners bullpen did a good job on
Friday night keeping the team in the game
though the offense were not able to get
enough runs.

The Mariners picked up reliever Yacksel
Rios from the Tampa Bay Rays. Rios
had been pitching at the Rays triple-A
team. Rios had an option about being
called up by the Rays by June 1. It
seems despite pitching well in triple-A
the Rays didn't have a spot in their
bullpen. Not sure when he will be
activated by the Mariners I am sure
we will see him soon. The Mariners
got Rios for cash. The state of the
Mariners bullpen getting a reliever
is a good idea.

Yusei Kikuchi will pitch Saturday
night. The Mariners have a good
chance in winning if he continues
to pitch like he has recently. Right
now with Marco Gonzales trying to
make his way back Kikuchi has to
be considered the ace of the rotation.
Go M's.
