Mariners Beat Brewers

The Seattle  had a good  game  both
hitting and pitching winning 6-1 on Sunday.

Chris Flexen his second  good  outing. He
is going to make it a difficult  decision
who will be the 5th starter. Flexen went
three innings giving up no runs and two hits.

Brennan Bernardino who is trying  to make
the team as the lefty out of the bullpen
went two iings, gave up one hit and struck
out four. Not sure the Mariners will  go with
lefty in bullpen  however he is showing them
he wants to make the roster.

Jarred Kelenic  continues  having a good
spring with another home run. Cooper
Hummel wanting be extra outfielder and
third catcher had another home run. Brian
O'Keefe another catcher had a home run to.
O'Keefe likely  start in triple-A but may get
the chance at some point. AJ Pollock had
a couple hits himself.

Luis Castillo  makes a start against  the
Cubs Monday  afternoon. Tuesday the
Mariners have day off  from game action.
Go M's.

George Kirby's First Outing

Saturday  was George  Kirby's first
outing of the spring.  Like Marco
Gonzales and Logan Gilert first
outing didn't  go well.

Kirby lasted only an inning and a
third. He threw just over 30 pitches.
He gave up four hits, four runs though
only two  were earned. The Mariners
went on to lose 7-1.

Like Marco we expect better from Kirby
and Gilbert in their next outing.

The Mariners  only had four hits on
on the day. Jake Scheiner third baseman
hit a home run for the Mariners only score.
Scheiner likely won't  make  the  opening
roster. Last year he played at double-A Arkansas.
Jake had a .252 batting average with 21
home runs and 105 rbi's. May start the
season in triple-A.  Being a better hitting
league Jake's stats may go up. It will be
interesting  to  see  where his career  goes.
The Mariner acquired him from Philadelphia
for Jay Bruce. Remember he was in the
trade where the Mariners made with New York
Mets and the Mariners got outfielder Jarred
Kelenic as well.

Chris Flexen  makes his second start of the
spring for the Mariners  against  Milwaukee
on Sunday. His first start Chris went two innings,
two hits and gave up no runs. Hope to see more
of the same. He likely  will  go three innings.  Go M's.

Marco Gonzales Has Turnaround

Marco Gonzales  pitched much better
in his second outing  of  the  spring.
He pitched three and two-thirds innings
giving  up three hits, two walks and
three strikeouts. Still  don't know whether
he will be the 5th starter or traded. In
either case he pitches well be good for
the  Mariners. He was the Mariners
pitcher of the game.

Another pitcher who did well was Darren
McCaughan who has pitched at Tacoma
the last couple  years that I  remember.
He pitched the last two innings giving
up no hits and striking out  three. He gives
additional  depth to the team.

The Mariners  beat Arizona 6-3. Tom Murphy
was one of the hitting stars having three
hits, three runs scored and had a home run
as well. He scored on a home run by Mike
Ford who is having a good  spring so far.
Not sure he will  make the team or not, does
give depth at first base and can dh.

Both Julio  Rodriguez  and Jarred Kelenic
each had a hit in the game so continues
to be a good sign.

Saturday the Mariners  play Colorado at
home and the game will be on TV.  I believe
this will be a broadcast all by women so be
interesting to see how they view the game.

George  Kirby  expected make his first
appearance  in the spring.  Go M's

Mariners Have Walkoff

The Mariners  always find a way to
win close games. Mariners  5 Padres 4

Logan Gilbert had a rough start in
his first outing giving up three runs
in one and two-thirds  innings.

Eugenio Suarez  had his first home
run in the spring. Cooper Hummel
had a home run in the 8th allowing
the Mariners  to tie the game at 4-4.
Hummel  had a solo home  run and
the other run scored on a wild pitch.

Albert Rodriguez hit a double to
drive in the  winning run. Alberto
has played the last two years in
Everett. I  am  sure  he will look
to play this year at double-A.
I  am  sure  he will remember this
double for sometime.

Prelander Berroa had another good
outing going two innings again. He
walked one and struck out too. He
keeps  pitching  this way he could
end up making opening roster.

Huskies Lose Big Time

Thursday  was the last game of the
regular season  for the Washington
Huskies and the Washington State
Cougars. Both teams have the Pac-12
tournament  coming up. The Huskies
likely  won't  play in any post season
tournament  unless they get hot and
win the Pac-12  tournament.

The Cougars  won the game taking both
this year's  games. The Cougars won 93-84.
TJ Bamba who has been very  hot recently
had a great night scoring 34 points. The
Huskies tried man to man after zone but
couldn't  stop Bamba. The Cougar guard
went 13 for 20 including three  3-pointers
and made all seven of his free throws.

Keion Brooks Jr  led the Huskies  with  22
points. Jamal Bey who has been scoring
well  recently with 17 points in his last
home game.  We wonder why we  haven't
seen that from Bey on a regular basis.

The Huskies had five of their six players
score in double figures. Cole Bajema who
has been struggling lately was the only
one not to get double figures with 9 points.
Freshman guard Koren Johnson had 13
points coming off the bench. With Jamal
Bey not coming back next season Koren
Johnson and Keyon Menifield should be
the primary  guards. At this point we don't
know Keion Brooks Jr will return either.
Also, head coach Mike Hopkins  could be
seen the door to.

The Huskies end the season  placing 8th
place in the Pac-12 with 8-12 record. Both
Colorado and Stanford can tie Washington
with a win. The Cougars on the other hand
end the season  with a 11-9 record and sixth place.
If both Arizona State  and Oregon both lose
then the Cougars would tie for 4th place. If
Utah beats Colorado  they would tie the Cougars.
So four teams could tie for fourth place. Won't
know who plays who in the tournament until
Saturday is over.

The Cougars had all five starters score in
double figures. Bamba was the difference
in the game with his 34 points.

Let you know how the  tournament will
set up.

Matt Brash Only Human

Robbie Ray  went  three innings in his
second  outing of the spring.  He gave
up  one hit and a walk while striking
out five. We hope that Robbie could
be in the running for another Cy Young
award. If not him, the Mariners have
three other starters who could.

The Mariners  lost 5-3 Wednesday
against the Chicago Cubs. Matt
Brash who has maybe the best
slider in baseball  showed he is
human after all. He gave up all
five of the runs in the 4th  inning
after taking over for Ray. Don't
expect that during  the season
to come in the 4th or giving up
five runs. We will see how dominant
Brash will be during the season.

We hope to see more than once that
happened on Wednesday  was back to
back solo home runs by Julio Rodriguez
and Jarred Kelenic. The only other run
scored by the Mariners was number one
prospect Harry Ford  hit a double in the
8th inning scoring Cooper Hummel who
was the second  dh on the day. AJ Pollock
began the day as the dh. Pollock had
two hits on the day.

It looks like  Pollock is wanting to have a
good season this year. If Kelenic  have a
turn around and hit good we could see more
at dh. Kelenic  could play some right field
allowing  Teoscar Hernandez  do some dh
as well. This will depend  how healthy  the
outfield  stays this year.  The Mariners go
with another extra outfielder this will give
a lot of help in the lineup.

Again Sam Haggerty played second base
and had a  hit. Dylan Moore  not playing
yet it looks to give Haggerty more chance
at second base. Though Sam has been
a utility  player  during  his career until
last year he didn't  play any outfield. The
Mariners will have four bench players
besides  the second catcher.  You have
to figure Moore and Pollock counted
as two of the four. Haggerty gets the
third spot leaves one  other slot open.
With injuries  there is likely someone
who doesn't  open the season on the
roster will  be  there at some point.

Logan Gilbert expected  to  make his
first start of the spring  on Thursday
against the  San Diego  Padres. Let you
know how he does  and who else might
be a star of the game.

During the season  we will give summary
of the game along with who the best
pitcher of the game and position  player too.
Go M's.

Seahawks Wednesday

Not a lot of news in the Seahawks  world
right now. I  am  sure  the team is working
on who will stay and who will go.

You read or hear the news a lot is still  about
Russell  Wilson.  Although they traded him
about a year ago and we know he didn't have
a good year and why the Seahawks have the
number five pick in the first round as well as
there own pick.

I am sure everyone  has their own opinion
where the Seahawks  have to pick in the
fifth spot. I believe the Seahawks  need to
pick a defensive  player. A lineman would be
my top choice, however, I figure whoever is
the best  player on the table at the time.

Running  back is an important  spot where
the Seahawks could add another somewhere
in the draft. Does Rashaad Penny return or
they go elsewhere. At this point Ken Walker
needs to stay healthy since the backups right
now would get maybe five carries in a game.
They need a back who can have at least ten
carries. Having a 1b back would be good.
The Seahawks  have shown most of the time
they don't  do well  when they  have to throw
the ball most if the time.

Quiet time on the Geno Smith front though he
is expected  to  sign with the Seahawks.  His
backup quarterback Drew Lock is probably
gone unless other teams look at him as a
backup only as well.  Understand he wants
to be a starter. The question  is he good enough.

The salary cap  the Seahawks  will  have  to
release a few players  so who they will be will
find out soon too. Until  next Wednesday or
sooner if some news comes out. Over and out.
Go Hawks!
