Mariners Beat Angels In Opening Game

Always good to beat a team in the
first game of a series. This is especially
true if they are in your division and they
are below you in the standings. This
happened Thursday night with the
Mariners beating the LA Angels on
the road 6-2.

The Angels scored first hitting two
home runs in the second inning but
were shut out the rest of the way.

The Mariners scored a run in the top
of the third inning after the Angels
had scored which is always a good
thing. The Mariners broke open the
game with Jake Fraley hitting a three
run homer. It was Fraley's first career
major league home run. A bit of a
surprise it hadn't happened before.

Kyle Seager had a couple of hits on
the night including a home run in the
seventh inning. The Mariners scored
final run in the eighth. Kyle had a
double in the game as well. Funny
thing he tried to steal third base. He
originally was called out but the ball
hit off third baseman Rendon after
hitting Kyle as well. Seager couldn't
see what happened thinking he was
out because that is what the umpire
did. So he went off the base to head
back to the dugout. Got into a little
rundown. After the umpires discussed
it he was awarded third base. Of course
Angels manager Joe Madden came out
to disagree with the umpires. Of course,
they didn't change their minds. The
Mariners were not able to take advantage
of Seager being on third base.

Justin Sheffield went five and two-thirds
innings though manager Scott Servais was
hoping he could go seven innings. In all
Sheffield gave up six hits, three walks while
striking out seven. Not bad however can use
better as well. Positive was the bullpen didn't
give up a hit on the night.

Every hitter in the lineup except Kelenic and
Godoy had a hit. Right now I am not sure
what the Mariners should do however they
may have to send Kelenic back to Tacoma
if it continues much longer. What he needs
to do is take more pitches in the same manner
Fraley does who walked twice on Thursday
night besides the home run. Trammell had a
hit on the night however he should do the
same thing. They should look for their pitch
otherwise don't swing. That is easier said
then done of course.

JP Crawford continues hit well since being
back in the leadoff spot. He had three hits
including two doubles. He continues having
a good month of June does he deserve to be
on the all-star team.

News came out the new Seattle Kraken who
will start next NHL season have the second
top pick in the draft beginning on July 24.
Also, the expansion draft will take place on
July 21. The Kraken will be able to draft a
player from each team that has not been
protected.

The Kraken's games will be locally shown
on Roots Sports the home of the Mariners
and on radio KJR 95 am.

It will be great to give news and how the
team is doing right here.
