Thursday afternoon game was the complete
opposite in my mind. Justus Sheffield
didn't pitch well and the defense wasn't
very good either.
I wonder for the long term whether
Sheffield will be in the Mariners
rotation or not. He has the capability
however doesn't match with it often.
Sheffield went four innings giving up
six hits, five runs with three earned,
walking one and striking out three.
The Tigers hit two home runs against
the Mariners in this one. My mind
the Mariners gave this game away.
The score may have not indicated
it since the final 8-3 Detroit.
Offensively it was the Mitch Haniger
show coming out of a slump with
two home runs the first ones for June.
In all the Mariners had six hits on
the day. JP Crawford who has been
hitting well didn't have one on the
day. Kyle Seager and Ty France
each had a hit along with Jake Fraley
and Jake Bauers whom they picked
up from the Cleveland Indians.
Bauers will primarily play first base
until Evan White returns. He can Cl
play left field as well. Bauers had
been designated by assignment so
it didn't cost the Mariners much.
Bauers made his major league debut
on June 7 2018 against the Mariners
while playing for the Tampa Bay Rays.
He was traded to Cleveland on December
13 2018 which was a three team swap
including the Mariners. Bauers played
most of 2019 with the Indians hitting
.226 with 12 home runs and 43 rbi's
in a part-time role.
Bauers didn't play at all for the Indians
spending the whole 2020 at the alternate
site and then has been playing 43 games
this season batting .190. His role likely
be first base against righties until White
returns.
