Mariners traveled to Detroit
from Anaheim after splitting
the series between them and
the Angels.
Tuesday Marco Gonzales will
makes his second start since
coming off the injured list. The
Mariners did make a few moves
on the roster for the Tiger series
which is two games before heading
to Cleveland.
The Mariners decided to send
Jarred Kelenic back down to
triple-A Tacoma. Hopefully he
will get some individual help to
work on the areas he had hitting
in the major leagues. Obviously
the pitchers are better in the
majors then in triple-A.
What I am saying is the hitting
coach whether the one who works
with all the players at Tacoma or
the one that goes throughout the
minor league teams should make
Kelenic his special project.
These days with every pitch and
at bat shown on video he can see
what pitches he is having trouble
with. It is obviously the scouts on
the other teams figured out what
Kelenic can't hit. Besides watching
video he should go out for a few
hours and hit those pitches over
and over again. We know he likely
won't see a lot of it in game action
or when he does the pitchers are
not as good as the ones in the majors.
The Mariners brought up Shed
Long Jr. who recently did a rehab
assignment in Tacoma to take
Kelenic spot. Most likely he will
play second base with occasion
in left field.
I know there are those who are
excited to see Long play again
with the Mariners. Have to
remember he didn't have much
success in Seattle before. Last
year he didn't play at all in game
situations so 2019 was his last
time playing in Seattle and that
was sparingly as well. I do hope
he has success.
Sam Haggerty was moved to the
60-day injured list so won't be
seeing him soon it looks like.
The chances are he won't be on
the Mariner roster until August
or late July anyway. He will
probably do a rehab assignment
as well.
Speaking of rehab assignment
Dylan Moore is starting his with
Tacoma this week. How long he
will be there we will see. When
he is recalled he likely will share
second base with Long well
as playing some outfield. This
will depend on Long and the
outfielders on the roster.
With Kelenic being sent back
to Tacoma and Long now being
on the roster Taylor Trammell
will be the starting center fielder
I expect with Jake Fraley in left
field. Long may play some left
field when Fraley or Trammell
or Haniger need a day off.
Haniger we know will have
more days off in the field and
go to dh. Fraley and Trammell
will probably dh when given
the day off in the field as well.
With a bit of difference in the
lineup it will be interesting to
see how the Mariners will do
in the Detroit series. Go M's.
