Mariners Blown Out

The Seattle Mariners were blown out
Tuesday by the Oakland A's 12-6 on
Tuesday night. I guess if you were
going to get beaten I would prefer
a blow out instead of a one run loss.

Marco Gonzales looked good in his
first outing back giving up one run
on two hits, walked one and struck
out six. His one run giving up was
a home run in second inning by Olson.
The Mariners were leading 4-1 when
Gonzales left the game.

It looked bright for the Mariners until
the seventh inning when the A's scored
six runs. Harold Santiago made his
first appearance for the Mariners after
being called up from Tacoma about a
week ago. He did fine first two innings
however gave up three runs in the seventh.

He was followed by Peter Sewald who
gave up three more runs. I thought it was
unfair to say Sewald pitched a bad game.
The plate umpire made some terrible calls
on balls that looked like strikes. The Mariner
should have been out of the inning without
damage with Sewald in the game.

The A's scored two runs in both the eighth
and ninth innings to seal the deal. Zamora
had his first bad outing giving up two runs
including a homer in the eighth and Vest
went two-thirds in the 9th. I think that Vest
was taken off the injured list because of
covid too early. He hasn't been the same
pitcher since his return.

The Mariners new looking outfield with
Kyle Lewis going on the injured list had
Jake Fraley in right, Jarred Kelenic in center
and Taylor Trammell who was recalled to
take Lewis spot in left. Kelenic was moved
down in the order to sixth. JP Crawford
was back in the leadoff spot followed by
Haniger who dh. Kyle Seager was in the
third spot which I don't understand at all.
The reason likely was he bats left handed.

Trammell though was the only of the outfield
to get a hit and it was a home run in the fourth
inning. He batted seventh behind Kelenic.
Tom Murphy who was the hero in Monday's
game caught and hit a home run in the 8th
inning.

It is tough now because not a lot of success in
the batting order from 5th through 9th spot.
We hope that Trammell will have more success
his second time around, Fraley not hitting yet
and Kelenic still having trouble though moved
down in the order to 6th. We hope that he can
turn things around. Unless the Mariners can
find someone there is not much can be done
with the outfield at this time. No one in Tacoma
on the 40-man roster.  Go M's.
