I have withdrawals about the Mariners right
now however maybe football will help me out. This weekend the Washington State
Cougars lead it off with a game against the Oregon Ducks in Eugene Oregon. The
Ducks aren’t the same team they were a few years back however this game should
be exciting. It would be great for Coug fans if they have the same exciting
game like last Friday against the USC Trojans where they narrowly beat them
30-27. This will be the first test for the Cougars on the road this season. The
previous five games they were playing at home in Pullman.
The Washington Huskies play Saturday
evening against the California Bears in Seattle. I don’t know that much about
this year’s edition of the Bears but I do know that they have to know how to
stop the run because the Huskies have been running the ball very successfully the
last couple weeks at least. They have to know how to stop returner/wide
receiver Pettis who has had a great season so far and no one hasn’t. The Huskies
defense has been solid as well and getting better each week. The Huskies look
like more of a balance team than last year.
The Seahawks will be taking on the
Rams in Los Angeles. We hope they play the Rams better than have in recent
years. At least it will not be a home field advantage. The Seahawks will be
without four players including defensive end Cliff Avril. At this point no one
knows whether Avril will return this season or ever. We are hoping he does
because not only he is a good player but an outstanding player.
We hope now that all three teams
will win their games this weekend. It would be quite the bonanza if they do. Go
teams!
