The Seattle Mariners scored first in the third inning with one run and then two more in the fourth however Tampa Bay had two home runs one after the other in the fifth inning to make the score 3-2. It stayed that way until the top of the ninth when Edwin Diaz had another blown save the second in a row to tie the game 3-3.
The game went into extra innings when finally Mitch Haniger hit a walk-off home run to win the game. I am sure a lot of fans had no doubt that the Mariners would win since they are now 6-0 in extra innings. The Mariners are showing you may put them down but never out. They are now thirteen games above five hundred and a game behind the Houston Astros with a record of 35-22. It is important the Mariners win as many games possible against the Rays since they will take on the Astros two games in Houston next week followed by four games against the Rays on the road. They will return to play the Angels for three games followed by the Boston Red Sox. After that they will have a ten game road trip to face the Yankees, Red Sox and the Baltimore Orioles. They finish June at home against the Kansas City Royals. This month will show us what the Mariners are made up of if we haven't figured that out yet.
Friday night's game victory went to Roenis Elias who pitched the last two innings of the game. Elias was called up Friday morning as Marc Rzepczynski was designated for assignment. He could be picked up on waivers or traded by the Mariners. Elias and James Pazos will be the two lefties now in the bullpen. Elias had been scheduled to start for Tacoma on Friday so he could have pitched long as the Mariners needed him to. Marco Gonzales will start Saturday Night against Chris Archer for the Rays. Would not surprise me if this will be another close game.
Ben Gamel had two more hits in Friday night's game including a triple. He started in left field instead of Denard Span. The way that Gamel is hitting lately he is making very hard for the Mariners to keep him out of the lineup. We will continue seeing all four outfielders seeing a lot of action. This will be important since the Mariners only have two days off in June. Dave Freitas started in place of Zunino who pinch hit for him late in the game. Zunino has a slight injury and could miss starting Saturday's game as well. Anyway Mariners keep up the good work.
